News [Sampson] Notre Dame now has the longest active winning streak in college football.

I guess all of the “Texas Tech tries to destroy college football” “LSU tries to destroy college football” “ESPN destroys college football” headlines distracted people from the true villains for a while. Good to know everyone’s still outraged about the pop tart bowl

The pop tarts bowl should count as a forfeit
36
u/mindbodyproblem 2h ago
Maybe, if pop tarts still had a decent amount of icing.
23
u/wycked89 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 1h ago
This is a take I fully endorse, or more icing in a pop strudel packet

You can't forfeit a game you're never scheduled for. They simply declined the invitation.
And let's be honest non playoff bowls don't mean much of anything anymore (and they'll mean even less at 24)

Declining an invitation because you’re scared of BYU and Pop Tarts is even more cowardly than forfeiting
5
u/saltytradewinds Notre Dame • Oregon State 1h ago
So you're saying ND was scared of BYU and then scheduled a regular season game with them?

So scared of BYU we scheduled them the very next year. Solid reasoning there, brother

Wait I didn't realize you can keep a win streak by declining to play anybody who might beat you. Can A&M and CSU decline the rest of their seasons?
12
u/OscarDelta333 FIU Panthers 1h ago
I think the point is that regular season games are scheduled whereas bowl games are by invitation. So there is a difference.
8
u/KruegerFishBabeblade Texas A&M Aggies • Colorado State Rams 1h ago
Teams (like Indiana!) that cancel difficult ooc games to protect their record are equally deserving of criticism
1
-1
u/Ok-Soil-5133 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2h ago
It only applies for the postsesson because its an invitation basis, not a game already on the schedule.
-8
u/ShackletonsVael Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2h ago
You are saying regular season games are comparable to bowl games? Do you have your opponent and specific bowl game scheduled in advance for the next few years?
6
u/KruegerFishBabeblade Texas A&M Aggies • Colorado State Rams 1h ago
Football games are comparable to other football games yeah
3
u/ShackletonsVael Notre Dame Fighting Irish 1h ago
I'll admit I don't watch much of Colorado state so I had to Google their schedule lol, not sure about their bowl games but with the new 24 team playoff maybe instead of being blown out by North Texas you guys could be comparable to TCU with Georgia in 2023? It's low hanging fruit to mention A&M with the whole 8-4 thing so.
0
u/KruegerFishBabeblade Texas A&M Aggies • Colorado State Rams 1h ago
The domer mind can't imagine rooting for a bad program because you have actual personal ties to the school
3
u/ShackletonsVael Notre Dame Fighting Irish 1h ago
Can't imagine rooting for a bad program? Lmfao I wasn't even alive the last time they won a national championship, and have only seen them always be embarrassed on a national stage every time they have made it to the national championship. Decades of choking sure are the signs of a healthy program.

u/KruegerFishBabeblade Texas A&M Aggies • Colorado State Rams 1h ago
Call me when you watch your team lose by 34 points to UNLV in an empty stadium on a 25 degree day in person

Who cares? I won't gloat or celebrate anything until the Irish win a national championship. If that ever happens. Will I complain about other programs and point out hypocrisy when I see it? Of course. But as a fan, I'll never strut. This is just inviting karmic intervention. Stay humble, shrug your shoulders when opposing fans say things that may or may not be true, and hope for the best. I'll say something about the greatness of this Irish team--if it is truly great--if they win it all this year. If not, kudos to whoever does.

Why do Notre Dame fans keep acting like bowl games are worthless? They bring more revenue in for the team. Allow more practices and reps for the next generation of players. And allow fans to watch the team in a fun setting
1
u/urbanboi Notre Dame • Washington 5m ago
The media clearly decided decades ago that bowls are worthless. They don't care about any of the things you mentioned. Which is why they just expanded the playoff again to bury them.
