Wig Ways to keep a wig on during a rave?

I’m going to a rave this Halloween and need to know of the best ways to keep my wig on during a night of dancing and head banging. I’ve heard of wig glue but don’t know how effective it is and if there’s a better alternative to what I’m looking for

I much appreciate the help <3

Armor Help finding real patterns not made by AI!

I'm pretty nervous on buying armor patterns due to how much AI content there is now! Especially with my characters armor, I don't want to waste time or materials on a piece that won't function / uncomfortable. Any suggestions for reliable patterns?

What should I get for finisher for leather paint?

I’m on the final step (at least for the white strips I haven’t put 4 coat on the grey heel platform part yet) and I think I might’ve made a mistake in purchase? It says apply a finisher (doesn’t say what type) and I have satin 4 coat I remember someone on Reddit telling me to get this but I can’t remember the context. And this doesn’t have finisher on the bottle? Did I get the wrong product? And if so what specifically should I get for the final step being the finisher? This is for an Amy Rose cosplay

What do I use to stop stains?

I purchased this set for a cosplay. The corset belt, made of PU leather and an elastic band, rubbed off on my white shirt, I tried washing and bleaching it, STAINED FOREVER! I obviously would like to prevent this from happening to other clothes is there something I can apply to the inside of the leather corset to stop it?

Help Finding Gloves

This is technically more a costume than a cosplay because it’s for Halloween but I’m posting it here becsuse I’m sure ya’ll will be able to help me. I’m trying to find black and white striped fingerless gloves for my FNAF marionette costume, but everything I can find is knitted and built for warmth and I know that’ll piss me off because it’ll make my hands hot. Does anyone know of any that are made of a sheer mesh material so my hands will stay cool? Only requirements are it has to arrive before Halloween and not be ridiculously expensive. Please let me know if you have any recommendation!

What material to use for tail wrapped around leg?

I am wanting to add a tail to a pretty dainty dragon costume. Rather than having it swing behind me and take up space, I was thinking I could have it wrapping around and down my leg but I am not sure what materials I can achieve this with. I am a novice and am just trying to create something cute for Halloween. Thanks in advance!

Me and my friend are doing smoke and stack for Halloween, and I really wanna do the eye effect he has when they turn into vampires, but I’m ngl I’ve never in my life worn contacts so I wouldn’t know where to find ones with this effect or anything. I was just wondering if anybody knew where I could buy some like these that’ll hopefully arrive before Halloween. I have some references attached

Makeup how would i go with making my eyes larger and more "sharp" using makeup?

(please ignore the dry looking spots, i have psoriasis :/)

long post ahead

hi! i have been cosplaying for a while now, but i still think of myself as a beginner, i'm quite self conscious about how i look like so most of my previous cosplays were that of masked or characters where i could cover my face

however, i was thinking about possibly coming out of my shell a bit, as anxious as it makes me i'm also aware that i would have a larger choice of possible cosplays if i actually decided to show my face

make up is important for me when it comes to cosplay, particularly eye makeup since i feel like it can change how you look like significantly, problem is that i'm a complete noob, i haven't touched eyeliner for a very long time out of fear and have just started experimenting

my main issue is that i can't figure out a proper eyeliner shape/style for my face, i'm cursed with small looking eyes and i'm aiming to make them appear larger as well as more defined, but i'm not sure how to do that, whenever i try i feel like it doesn't fit my eyes (if that makes sense)?

can anybody please guide me in a good direction? i'm struggling to figure out how to draw my eyeliner so that it actually helps define my eyes, guides, tutorials, anything is appreciated, sorry if this is a stupid question but i'm unsure where else to ask

(my eyes aren't "hooded" but they are partially hidden by my brow skin(?) since they sit further back on my face)

Buying Is Buying Cosplays on AliExpress Worth it ?

I’ve been buying things on AliExpress lately, and I’ve been wondering if buying cosplay stuff on there is worth it. Obviously, I know I’m not going to get the highest quality for the price, but for someone who just wants to cosplay for fun, like for Halloween or the occasional convention, I don’t really want to spend a ton of money on an expensive cosplay I might not wear that often.

So, I wanted to ask if anyone has experience buying cosplay stuff from AliExpress, whether it’s wigs, costumes, accessories, etc. Are there any good sellers or brands you’d recommend that are actually worth the price? I’d love to hear about your experiences! 💕

Underbust tailcoat- sew or modify?

Thumbnail

Hi! I'm trying to make this cosplay, and I have a pattern for everything but the tailcoat. I don't know if I should just get a blazer/bolero style jacket and then modify it, or just make it from scratch.

I've made a closed, cropped jacket before and that went well- so I'm thinking of just re-printing that pattern and adding the tails, or basing the pattern off of a trenchcoat i have that somewhat fits- is there anything abt this coat that looks like it would be too hard to just guess and figure out, that i should get a base or pattern for?

I think the underbust button, and the way the part next to the sleeve is meant to curve around the bust (like corset straps), is just confusing me- maybe i should combine a underbust corset pattern, with a regular jacket pattern?

How to go about styling my actual hair

So I'm finished with my Big Mom cosplay and now I just have to dye my hair and figure out how to style it the right way. The problem is I have very fine hair so I'm wondering how I should go about styling it. I bought some got2be glued spray and gel and I have various random texture sprays and stuff, I also bought one of those roll brush dryer things that I have no inking how to use either. Any tips would be appreciated!!!

How to deal with the chains on this hat?

Thumbnail

Hi so I'm making this hat for Halloween. I'm having trouble figuring out how to deal with the chains part.

For the hat itself I'm planning on buying a high quality chauffeur hat so that the brim should be made of something other than plastic that I can attach the chains to.

Most importantly, I can't seem to find pre-made chains like this (unless I'm looking in the wrong places), so I thought I might have to make my own chains out of brass wire. Is that a good solution? Would it look any good? How would I make the shape of the chain loops uniform enough? It looks like the chains are a simple loop that has been twisted slightly. What gauge of wire does it look like?

Also, the chains on the model hat are apparently attached by thread to the brim so that they can dangle freely. Do you think that super glue or sewing would be enough to hold the chains? I thought I could either try to sew the chains into the brim, or wrap a loop of thread around the chain and super glue that to the brim instead. How should I attach them?

images are from here: https://www.rrauction.com/auctions/lot-detail/348011406628141-princes-iconic-stage-worn-chain-hat-from-the-act-ii-tour/ (yes it's prince's hat)

edit: I've never made chains before either. Is the process straightforward? Do I need to solder anything? Thanks!

How can I make this hat bigger?

Thumbnail

I bought off of ally express and it looks really good! It fits my skull for the most part, but the unfortunate part is my hair is too big lol. So I was thinking maybe just snipping the back part of it, and maybe taping it back together for a bigger fit (especially in the back) but others say it’d just ruin it. That’s my main concern, but I also just want to stretch out the back of the hat so that the “wings” protruding from the back flair out more like the game. Any suggestions?

How to paint boots

I’m working on an Amy cosplay and plan to use Angelus paint. I know to rub it with 2 minutes with deglazed but do I have to sand it as well? Also these are pleather shoes. I also don’t know how to ratio the paint and satin 4 coat it says 50/50 for the more bendy parts and 75/25 for stuff that doesn’t move (assuming the heel) but I’m really bad at just guessing measurements. TBH I’m just overall lost and need a full step by step guide of how to paint these but any advice at all would be very appreciated

Wig Post con wig questions

Thumbnail

I have been wearing and styling simple wigs for cons for some time. But I never know or see discussed about how to handle a wig after the con ends. Or what is normal to expect after wearing a wig for a con.

Is it

  1. normal for a wig to be tangled and messy after a con? I wore this curly wig but now the curls are kinda messy and with a lot of fly aways. Under the wig is even worse, it’s extremly tangled. Is this normal to happen or did I style it wrong?
  2. Am I supposed to wash the wig after one use? And that way completly lose the styling?
  3. Usually, even when a wig was styled in the correct and best way, is it normal to have to style it again before the next con?

Im still debating on how to take care of this wig, since it looks so tangled and messy. I dont know if I should start over or just try and fix what I have.

Thanks in advance :)

Armor Where on earth can I get metal bars for these boots in time for Halloween?

Post image

I'm following this tumblr tutorial for the Long Fall Boots from Portal 2 (Portal 2 Longfall Boot Tutorial – @steeltowncosplays on Tumblr) and she used a "3/16" x 4" aluminum bar, 6061 alloy". Now there's two weeks to Halloween and I'm a procrastinationalist, so somehow I'm gonna make these by Halloween night. But where can I get such metal bars for a cheap price (up to $60)? Is there a different kind of metal that I can use instead that is easier to acquire?

I've looked online but all I can find are really sketchy-looking websites that don't have product photos because everything is custom ordered. That can't be my only resource, right?

btw I'm not opposed to dumpster diving or otherwise looking in scrap metal places

Prop Overwhelming need to make large eyeballs

Over the last few years I’ve been making costumes for my daughter and this has segued into making props for the home. I made an oversize eyeball for the bookshelf and now I am convinced that every room in the house would greatly benefit from having a giant eyeball. I’ve even just bought a small antique display case from FB marketplace which I hope to fill with eyeballs. I think it will look lovely with a pot plant on top. (Others may disagree)

My original eyeball was made from polystyrene, air dry foam clay and paint but I found it really hard to get a smooth finish with the air dry foam. I was wondering about a finish more akin to plaster but I’ve researched too hard and now my brain is too full of conflicting advice on materials and approach.

I am going to consciously empty my brain and start again. If you lovely people were trying to make some small and large (20cm diameter or more) eyeballs that were smooth and preferably glossy, how would you do it?
