4 Channel Mixer Market....
Needing a 4 channel mixer right now is literally the worst.. You have two choices now.. Xone 92/96 or the A9... WTF happened to the 750MK2? Pioneer/AT is just making it have to either go controller or super high end.
Edit... since most people are dense. I mean buying brand new. I dont do used gear. People treat their shit like crap. Or have cats.. kids.. smoke in their house

Got booked to open for a bass headliner - should I also play a bass set?
Woohoo! I just got booked to open for a pretty major bass artist at a large night club in my city. I definitely want to make sure I deliver a proper opening set that sets the whole night up for success.
They haven’t give us set times yet, so I am not sure if i am the first act, direct support, or somewhere in between. There’s only one other name on the booking, I’ve seen him before and he plays heavy bass.
I usually play tech house, bass house, G-house — my style has been dubbed “Hot Girl House”. I’ve been delving more into UK Garage & bass lately, and I’ve been having a lot of fun sprinkling those in throughout my sets, while still keeping my signature dirty house sound.
I’m not sure if I should come with my usual flavor, or if I should adapt more to the genre.
It’s been a few years since I’ve played an opening set since I have mostly been playing at festivals or my own events I have produced (which are usually high energy events start to finish).
Curious if anyone has any advice? Just want to make sure I don’t under or over deliver.

How do yall get gigs if you mix a more niche genre?
Seems like every club (in America) nowadays wants tech/minimal/deep house or open format. I have been mixing top 40s at local and college bars, but my real passion is for groovier retro hits, nu-disco, and French house (ik it’s not really “niche” but it’s def not what’s mainstream rn since these genres all peaked a long time ago). I only know of one venue near me that even does anything remotely similar to that style of music, and have yet to befriend any DJs or promoters there.
I’m in my early 20s. Older scenes don’t take me seriously and younger scenes don’t seem to be interested when I play the old-school stuff.
I would love to host my own events but I recently moved cities so I don’t have access to my usual network to gather a crowd for an event if I decided to host one.

UDG Backpack on Flights
Hi all.
So I have had the UDG Ultimate Backpack for a few years now and I've never actually tried taking it for international gigs as it's size is larger that what most airlines will allow for cabin luggage.
Has anyone though actually tried and got away with taking it and storing under the front seat? I'm travelling to ADE in a few weeks and would rather take that bag if I know I have a chance nobody will actually bother checking (EasyJet flight by the way)

Anyone have this issue with the Rane One?
I've just noticed on my Rane One on the Crossfader the music will cut out before it reaches the end of travel. Meaning when I slide the fader to the right and got left deck playing the sound stops about 1/4th an inch BEFORE the end of the fader travel. It does this on both sides and on the volume faders as well, so I'm assuming my board isn't broken. I checked all the settings and adjustments on the board and I can't seem to figure it out? Is this normal? I'd think not with such a high end board thats aimed towards scratching? Anyone have any ideas?

Routing XDJ-RX2 channels individually to an external mixer (Xone:PX5) in Rekordbox/VDJ — Experience & USB driver stability?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been DJing techno for a while using a Pioneer XDJ-RX2 and I'm looking to expand my setup without buying two or three standalone CDJs right away to save money and adding just an cdj 1500x to the RX2.
My plan is to keep using the RX2 as a 2-deck controller for Rekordbox / Virtual DJ and route all audio through a proper 4-channel external mixer.
Specifically, I want to use External Mixer Mode in Rekordbox / VDJ to route Deck A (RX2 Left) to Channel 1 on the mixer and Deck B (RX2 Right) to Channel 2 on the mixer via USB and connect the 1500x to Channel 3.
I’m currently leaning towards the Allen & Heath Xone:PX5.
A few questions for anyone who has run a similar hybrid setup:
- Routing Experience: Has anyone set up individual channel routing from an RX2 (or similar all-in-one controller) to an external multi-channel USB mixer via Rekordbox or VDJ? How smooth is the workflow in practice?
- Mixer Choice: I’m also looking at the Xone:96 and the Pioneer DJM-750MK2. Would either of these be significantly better suited for this specific hybrid setup?
- A&H USB / Driver Issues: I’ve read older threads mentioning occasional USB disconnects or driver quirks with some Xone mixers (including the PX5). Is this still a concern with modern OS updates (macOS / Win 11), or have these been fully resolved?
Thanks a lot in advance for your insights and feedback! :)

what's your routine for practicing in daily life
interested in other DJs routines when it comes to practicing the craft. lately I have been spending my time more on preparation for the tracks rather than doing transitions a
etc. It's a little frustrating as it feels like a form of procrastination which frustrates me.

Looking for recommendations for a cheap controller purely to use when organising Rekordbox on the computer.
Using the laptop is quite annoying when setting cue, hot/memory cues, beat grid etc. etc., due to the lack of keyboard shortcuts.
Second hand preferred, just to keep the cost as low as possible.

Help with new mixer decision! Real vinyl as well as some DVS!
DJM S11 VS DJM-750MK2 vs DJM-2000Nexus for vinyl — what would you choose?
I'm looking for a new mixer for 2 × Technics and mainly real vinyl.
I've considered the DJM-S11, and I know it's probably the best option for what I want, but honestly it's more money than I'd like to spend and probably overkill.
So I'm stuck between:
DJM-750MK2 – newer, modern, great FX, DVS support and a familiar club layout.
DJM-2000Nexus – older, but the touchscreen, Beat Slicer, Frequency Remix, Side Chain Remix etc. look really interesting for creative vinyl mixing.
I'm particularly interested in using effects with actual vinyl, not just DVS/CDJs.
Has anyone here actually used either of these with Technics and real records?
Which would you choose, and why?
Also happy to hear suggestions for other mixers around the same used price range.

CDJs/XDJs to pair with an XDJ-AZ
I've been wanting to add two standalones to my az, I was curious on some opinions on what I should go with. I'd like to not spend a ridiculous amount, so I've been mainly looking at CDJ-900NXS, XDJ-1000Mk2, and CDJ-2000s. Ideally would like to stay at 1500 or less for 2 total, and I've found a few that are in that range. Anyone have recommendations as to what I should go with or just advice?

Beatport "Freezing" Service On Day of Payment
Any other Beatport subscribers notice how, on the day the monthly payment is charged, the service kinda "stops" working? At least until the payment goes through? Like streaming and other services in the paid tier just don't work until like the next day?

Speaker upgrade opinions.
I am a mobile dj, mostly doing weddings between 75 and 250 people, averaging 150. I work in a lot of outdoor venues. I currently run two rcf art 910s with an rcf 705 sub. I want to upgrade a little, mostly for aesthetic purposes with the new booths I’ll be getting (no longer want speaker stands). My simple option is add one more 705 and get the sub poles for the speakers. But I’m also looking at the Carvin audio trc400 column system. Obviously 18” subs would be an upgrade but I’m torn if it’s worth the extra money versus just adding the other sub to my current system, which I do love, but the 10” speakers with 1.75 voice coil have their limitations still. I’m not concerned on weight. Any feedback on the carvin columns or thoughts on what you’d do would be great. I won’t go to the new rcf columns because I don’t want 12” subs and can’t currently afford the v15s. Any thoughts appreciated. 🙏

Workaround for no VU meters
Are there workarounds for no VU meters in Denon Prime Go and Go+, Roland DJ-202?
I really don't get why they would not add this essential feature, so DJs could see the volume gain for each individual track.
Also, I'm looking for a small and portable controller/standalone for travelling, that has VU meters for individual tracks. Does Numark Mixstream Pro+ or Pro Go have VU meters?
Thanks!

CDJ400 set up, worth it for honing skills?
Hi all,
I’ve been DJing for about 2.5 years now. Previously owned FLX4 myself, but used 2000 nexus/3000’s for gigs. Quite comfortable on them but I fell into the trap of reading the screen & waveforms as most recently my old residency switched to an XDJ AZ.
Been looking at getting a small new setup as I regrettably sold my FLX4, and saw CDJ400 setup come up ($600 including a flight case - AUD).
I’ve been moving more towards an “early hardcore” sound (I play lots of techno) and have been wanting to hone my skills in to stop relying on waveforms and etc as much.
Would it be worth it to get the CDJ400 setup? I’m well aware they’re old, honestly quite like how basic they are. Only thing I read that I’m not too keen on is they don’t have hotcue compatibility which is a bit of a shame since I like to jump around my tracks a bit sometimes.
Other than that I know nothing, so any advice and tips are appreciated. Or other models I should look at.
Wedding DJ's : What is your lighting 101 for weddings?
Hello Redditors and fellow DJ's:
- I am trying to understand a bit how to use my lights in terms of how much they can cover.
For now I am having 2x Chauvet Intimidator Spot LED 250 and 4 Beam Pantherz 60 .
I am not sure for example how to use them for different type of venues, how much guests they might cover? 50-100-150 ?
My mind cannot visually compare them for example with 2-4 7R moving heads (bigger ones).
Any resource I can use to learn a bit of lighting without overwhelm myself as a DJ ?
I feel there are a lot of information and it can be overwhelming to understand lights and how you should position them, how much they can cover.
Thanks

Visualizers or actual footage for homemade DJ sets ?
I've been recording and filming DJ sets for a while, but I'm always torn between posting the audio with the actual video footage or using a visualizer instead.
I'm still a bit camera-shy, so I don't always love being on camera. On the other hand, using a visualizer, while it might look cooler, also kind of anonymizes the set. That might be counterproductive since YouTube sets can also work as a portfolio and give people a sense of who you are as a DJ.
Some of my sets were filmed in scenic locations, so those are an easy choice. But others were filmed at home, sometimes alone, and the footage can end up being pretty boring.
How would you guys approach this? Do you think it's better to just embrace the footage, even if it's not particularly exciting, or go with a visualizer and focus entirely on the music?

Do you plan your sets?
Hi, I’m currently getting back into DJing after a 30 year absence. I’m a vinyl only guy, not that I don’t respect other formats (it’s just what I grew up with).
I’ve seen loads of people talk about planning and preparing their sets, but I just play what I hear in my head from my limited collection.
Just wondered what other people do?

Bad live set recordings when MC is involved
Just listening to one the best in the game atm, Cesco, his set from Open Ground. I cant help but notice an unfortunate trend, which is sound quality of recorded live sets with an MC tend to suffer. Unfortunately what is a dope set is held back by an imbalance between live MC (which sounds good and clear) with the music that’s a bit flat especially in the lows and overall clarity.
I’m guessing it’s a tough task to live mix MC vocals and keep the music balanced but I’ve noticed this on most recorded sets that have an MC. IMO this could be solved by recording MC and DJ separately but often these sets are just recorded to one device together.
Has anyone else experienced the same?
how do y’all connect with music scenes outside your city?
i’ve been djing for about 6–7 years in new orleans, and i’m trying to play outside my city more. i like playing southern club, ghettotech, and atl bass, so i’m looking for events where that sound would fit
i’ve played outside nola before, but those gigs came from people reaching out to me. it feels different being invited somewhere versus reaching out like “hey, can i play here?” i want to experience playing in different cities again but i’m trying to figure out how to build those connections myself
i can find clubs that seem like a good fit but figuring out who’s actually organizing the specific nights i’d want to play is where i get stuck. like, finding the venue is one thing, but finding the right group of ppl is another thing
i’ve been sending cold dms to clubs, but that hasn’t really gone anywhere. how do y’all get to know people in other scenes and start playing there? what’s helped you find events that fit what you play and actually gotten a conversation started?
