Baseball stops when the Dodgers stop playing. How about the rest of you?

• Upvotes

I’m a contemptuous child who doesn’t care about who wins if the Dodgers aren’t in the playoffs. I know I should care as a fan of baseball, but couldn’t care less about who wins. How about the rest of you guys?

Long off season, so… some random fun questions for 2027 then.

  1. How many new players you think we gonna get for the lineup? If you had carte blanche, who else would you rather not come back?
  2. Who will be the best outfielder for us? This year was Pages. Can it be Teo or his replacement? Will Tuck regress to his norm?
  3. If Ben continues to rake at the plate, what would be the scenario for you consider relegating Willie to the bench?

    Typo - I meant Dalton.

  4. Would it be better for our dinosaurs if season started late due to lockout? If so when? I won’t be good for us fans of course.

  5. Again, if you had carte Blanche, and can trade for any player in the league to be a dodger, who do you want most?

  6. Can you pose another question (a good one now), that is good for the community to just think and mull over?

Long and boring off season… just not boring enough for me to tune in to the WS.

Whether it’s to see them fail or succeed, the people want to see the Dodgers

Post image

According to this and other searches, now that the Dodgers aren’t around to support or hate, interest is now taking an extreme nose dive. Peak interest was reached as the Dodgers were eliminated due to the schadenfreude effect. Index figure is currently in the 30s (for reference, it’s at its lowest at about 45 during spring training in March).

Regardless of who the Brewers play, ratings are expected to be among the lowest.

Basically, most people are more invested in seeing the Dodgers lose than watching the remaining teams. I think most people expected this to be the case, but I didn’t expect it to be this extreme.

💩 Unreliable Source How did you not see this outcome for the Dodgers coming?

The Dodgers offense has been terrible since the beginning of the playoffs last year. The bullpen remains terrible and inconsistent. The only thing you didn't count on was the starting pitching was also this bad.

The second pack in the box had a Machado mini framed auto and I wanted to die because I always seem to hit Padres and Giants. The rip card was the second to last pack in the box. Coolest Dodger card I've opened and wanted to share. And no, definitely not ripping it.

One thing that should go away for the 2027 season… AI slop

There’s a decent amount of AI slop around the park I noticed this season. In my opinion, this doesn’t match with the Dodgers pedigree of excellence.

The ballpark is such a historic and beautiful landmark, it doesn’t deserve any AI slop tainting it.
It’s disrespectful to the park, the team, and the fans. Hopefully they don’t continue with this next season.

(This sub doesn’t even allow AI btw)

Shohei Ohtani Dodgers Tokyo Series jersey sells for record $2 million

Despite a disappointing postseason performance and the Dodgers' elimination from the playoffs, Shohei Ohtani is still breaking records.

His game-worn, autographed jersey from the 2025 Tokyo Series sold for $2.06 million, becoming the most expensive Ohtani jersey ever sold publicly.

If Miggy, Kike, Teo are gone, who becomes the "vibes" guy?

Who maintains the cheerful clubhouse culture without the trio?

I think the lineup is going to ultimately be stronger as we bring up some of our younger players, but who is going to make sure our culture remains loose and fun?

Hopefully dongsaeng can turn it around for the last year of his contract next year, with 2 club options left after.

I would pay whatever for these. But I think they were player exclusive.

I know we’re all kinda bummed for myriad reasons…

But I just realized I’m kinda disappointed we didn’t break out the new blue alt away kits during any of the road games in the playoffs. Maybe next year we’ll see them make their post-season debut.

Stadium Hot Take

The dodgers should invest is some sort of dome or retractable roof. Not so much for the rain because we have nice weather all year, mostly for the sun that beams down with little to no shade. Most people like to indulge in a few adult beverages at the game but for me i can’t when it’s 90 degrees and the sun is beaming on me in the right field pavilion.

Robert’s Offseason Itinerary

Post image
0 Upvotes

Heading into this offseason, I think there are 3 major items on Dave’s itinerary that he’ll need to address;

  1. Dodgers hitting - our offensive woes this postseason are nothing new. Dodgers struggles with RISP and double play issues have been on going for a few years now. Before we could rely on the long ball to score our runs but with an aging team and less HR power in the lineup, our poor offensive production was at the epicenter of our postseason doom this year. Maybe it’s time for a change in coaching staff or maybe in our slugging philosophy?

  2. The Dinosaurs - For all the talk about the dodgers being old, the guys still produce at an elite level. Muncy hit 30 HRs this year. Before he hit his slump and got hurt, Freddie was arguably our best hitter, around .290 to .300 most of the season. Mookie may not have the HR power he had in the past, but he is still good for 15-20 HR with 70+ RBIs and is still an elite infielder. That being said, this team could definitely use some youth in the lineup. Maybe it’s time to move on from the likes of Kike and Teo? Maybe it’s time to start bringing in more of the farm like JDP?

  3. Probably the most important, what are we going to do with Shohei - it’s becoming more and more evident now that trying to pitch and hit is causing a lot of wear and tear on Ohtani. He missed most of August and September due to injury and, even tho he won’t admit it, was probably injured this entire post season which impacted his performance. Maybe it’s time for Dave to sit Ohtani down and tell him that he needs to choose between hitting or pitching but not both and honestly, right now, I think we need his bat more so than his arm.

What do you think guys think are some biggest issues or topics that need addressing this offseason?

I don’t really understand how a lot of you dismiss how much our $$ changes the equation

This is gonna be unpopular here and downvote me if you want. But with an upcoming lockout and our payroll constantly in question, I gotta say I don’t really get this.

Like… yes of course money doesn’t buy you championships. Baseball is random as fuck and the playoffs reward hot teams with momentum. And of course there are a few teams that seem to manage to get regular playoff spots despite lower payroll. And other teams like the Mets that spend out the ass for limited results.

We are good not just because of our money, but because we’re an incredibly well-run organization (though money helps with this too). Everybody who’s paying even an ounce of attention agrees on this. The spotlight of this argument is on us but it goes beyond us.

That said can you really not understand the argument here? We and a few other teams pick often multiple marquee free agents almost every year. We can afford to throw prospects at deadline acquisitions every year. We don’t buy championships

but our money absolutely puts us in contention every year and allows us significantly more opportunity to take risks.

That’s a huge deal. And that’s the crux of the argument. To me this seems obvious. Over the course of a decade we have
significantly more chance to make the playoffs, be in contention, and compete for marquee players

than the vast majority of other teams regardless of how cheap their owners are. This is just the financial reality of the current system. And it’s not the same in the other major sports. And I don’t really think it’s very good for the long term health of the sport I love so much.

The luxury of being able to keep players is also a huge part of fan engagement, and it’s no surprise to me that teams that engage in small market shuffling (which is often the only available successful competitive strategy!) like the A’s and Rays have a harder time retaining fans. How can you expect to keep casual fans when you don’t retain players? When you were growing up did you have a favorite player? What if they just got traded every year?

You can say “oh blame Bob Nutting for being cheap.” And that’s true! He sucks. And John Fisher sucks. And they should spend more. And they’re an insult to their fanbases! Any cap should include a high floor.

But also you can’t deny that in this current system, the Pittsburgh pirates genuinely should not spend money in free agency or retaining players to long term contracts. It’s just not a smart FO move for them. They live in a completely different universe as us.

I don’t totally know where I land on salary cap/floor. It’s complex and there’s arguments on both sides I understand. But a lot of y’all pretend like it’s just settled science and I just can’t understand how you think that. Everyone else isn’t just a whiny bitch. We live in a bubble.

Yes I’m preparing to get massively downvoted. But at least hear me out. Or debate me in the comments.
