Urbanrest 9 Mile
Any clue what is going on with the Urbanrest Tap Room? Looks like they have closed, sign is down.

Starting now All political posts on this subreddit need to be from accounts that have participated in this subreddit before.
Additionally, Any posts with political flyers must have the text included in the post itself. Posts with only flyers will be removed and need to be submitted with alt text.
New accounts will still be welcome to comment and participate in discussion on political posts; they just won't be able to make political posts until they have participated in discussion in some way before. Political discussions still need to have a direct local connection as well or they will be removed. Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis (in keeping with the spirit of the rules), and efforts to violate the spirit of the rule may result in a ban.
This change is in response to a couple of low-effort posts from new accounts that have posted political posts and not engaged in the discussion after posting. For reference, the posts were removed by the reputation filter for my manual review. Since the posts met the rules at the time, I manually approved them. I can see subreddit participation when reviewing posts, so these would not have been approved with these new rules (I am also not removing them at this time because they met the rules at the time they were posted).
This subreddit welcomes open discussion on local issues, and this is not meant to censor any specific viewpoint. There is a balance to be struck between allowing total participation, including from people new to reddit and the subreddit who may not fully know how things are done on reddit, and allowing unfettered access to a semi-anonymous message board without verification that people participating actually live, work, or play here or are actually impacted by decisions in some way. Philosophically I lean more towards allowing participation (and have no desire for requiring verification), but I also want to make sure we're having productive discussions and aren't just regurgitating whatever Facebook-level comments make their way over here where possible.
This is only meant to curb a specific, recurring pattern of behavior not fitting for this subreddit. Posts will not be removed for content or position unless they violate the rules.

i (32f) moved back here a couple years ago (grew up in waterford) and work remotely — finding real-life friends has been a task, but here i am, shooting my shot on this sub. i can carry a conversation, i have unique interests, and i’m the proud mom of a very sweet pup. comment or message me if interested — there’s loads we can do in the area (coffee, thrifting, book stores, etc.).
p.s. do you prefer your cider mill donuts sugared or plain?
p.s.s. what’s your favorite, uniquely michigan thing to do

Hi all, I’m currently looking for a roommate to share half of the rent with utilities from mid/end-December 2026 to mid-May 2027 in downtown Detroit.
My current roommate is moving out due to personal circumstances. The apartment is a 2-bed 2-bath with a shared living room and kitchen. It’s super convenient for working folks with a microwave, fridge, dishwasher and in-unit washer and dryer. There are also other amenities: gym, pool, Amazon lockers and a market. There's also security on-site and code-protected entrances. It's also connected to a people mover and the Riverwalk.
Current base rent is 1,115 and we’ll split wifi and other utilities. There’s a monthly fee for the parking and you’ll have the master bedroom with a giant closet + bathroom attached.
I’d love to live with people who identify as femme, non-binary or queer individuals. Plus, someone who is quiet (no loud parties, please), neat, pro-LGBTQ+, responsible, employed - would be great if you also love the area.
Some of my personal info: I’m a creative intern in my early twenties, female, recently graduated from CCS. I really love making art, Clairo and walking!
If you’re interested or know someone, please message 𓇼 ⋆。˚ 𓆝⋆。˚ 𓇼. Many thanks!

Anyone have any luck contacting city services about installing additional safety measures at intersections? We’ve had a lot of close calls crossing at center and 9 mile even with the button light crosswalk system. Drivers look directly at us as they speed up to try to beat us walking across. I submitted a couple complaints through the clickfix system but haven’t heard anything. Concerned someone is going to get hit there! Any advice is welcome

Is anyone going to the army the navy show on the 24th of October at the magic bag? And if so, are you wearing a costume? I want too but I'm scared I'll be one of the only people wearing one lol.

Light grey/tan, striped, with a blue collar. Seemed friendly but skittish, couldn’t get a good look at the collar but wanted to see if anyone knew the owner or if the cat was a roamer, thanks to anyone with info!

I’m in a bad situation and need to move to Ferndale with my cat and my dog. But I live on SSI which doesn’t afford me any apartment in a normal situation. I also have a Bridge Food Card which helps. What should I do?

Wife and I plus our 3 year old are ready to move closer back home in Oakland county where we are from. I grew up in Troy and would like to suck it up and move there for the schools, my wife really likes ferndale and I do too especially for the cost of a home, but I am concerned about the school district. I was a 2012 grad and I remember visiting ferndale for sports all through high school and it felt pretty ghetto to me, the city looks like it’s changed a lot , but how are the schools really? Please people with kids in schools reply only

I’m from the area originally and I’m excited to move back with my family. But it seems like every home we view online was purchased a year ago for a reasonable price, got a cheap facelift of millennial grey paint, laminate flooring, and AI staging, and is now listed for twice (or more) the price from a year ago. I know this is happening everywhere, and some of it has to do with greater economic issues, but it seems particularly egregious in Ferndale compared to surrounding areas. Just venting my frustrations I guess. How are y’all handling house hunting when everything appears to be a price gouging flipper? Are people holding off buying or just going for it since it is a nationwide issue?

Hello everyone, I just moved into a home near Donald-Geary park this year.
With Halloween approaching I was hoping to get a gauge on how big trick or treating is in the area just so I can make sure I’m stocked up to hand out candy

I lived in Ferndale about 10-15 years ago. Our budget didn't have room for the main store, so they sent us to the warehouse, which had tons of treasures. We're back in the area now and I haven't been able to find it, wondering if they had to close it down or relocate.
Is it still around?

Growing up, people used to do boo baskets for the kids in the neighborhood. Is this something that still happens?? I had a baby recently so I thought it would be cute to do a boo basket for my neighbor who has little kids from my newborn!
