It's October already!

SpOOky season has begun! Or as some Lego fans like to call it, "MOCtober" is here. This is my favorite time of year to build, because it means getting out the Halloween sets and starting those pre-build plans for the Winter Village. Autumn is also a great time to attend Lego shows, so check out your local Lego Groups to see if they are participating in a Convention, Festival or Hobby Show nearby.

Let us know what's on your mind this month. What have you always wondered about? What rule do you want clarified, or changed? Do you have any suggestions you've been trying to find a chance to make? I won't promise that we will make the change(s) you want, but I will commit to explaining the reason we have the rules and policies we have.

I simplified this designs for a bailing sailor and dinghy. Makes the perfect desk charm for work. I feel oddly bound to seeing him through his plight, 'cause some days I feel like I'm bailing, too.

Is this a common printing error or do I hold a really unique PlayStation set?

I am also considering contacting Lego support, would they replace the errored piece?

I built the Japanese Maple Tree (10348) back in early August, and immediately decided I didn’t love it, so I broke it all down again.

I looked at Rebrickable to see if anyone had a better version, found one, ordered the parts, built that, and still didn’t love it.

So I tore it all down again, looked at a bunch of reference images online, came up with a vague idea in my head, and started trying to make it happen.

My loose parts collection is less extensive than I’d like, so I bought a number of sets throughout the process in order to cannibalize them (the dangers of working less than 10 minutes from a Lego store)

I rebuilt the various sections multiple times—either because of size issues or because of stability/connection strength concerns.

Don’t ask me how many pieces it is, because I absolutely didn’t keep count. And I have no instructions for it because it was 100% built on the fly.

It’s slightly over 20 inches tall, slightly over 16 inches wide, and about 13 inches front to back. It weighs 5.6 pounds. And, in proper Lego tradition, it does include a frog.

MOC Recoloring the LEGO Ideas cat to build my cats

Hi, I'm new to this but am excited to share my project. I'm on a journey to make all my past and present cats out of LEGO and the first two are done (pending minor touch ups). My childhood cat was the beautiful tortie named Süneli ('little sun' in my native language), she was quite the challenge but I'm super happy with how she turned out. Later, we added two more cats to the household. Not sure if I can call them calicos, their mother was a white, orange and black calico. I completed Ginger (white/orange) and her brother Pepper (white/black) is next in line. I already got the pieces, can't wait to let him take shape. I really miss them and am happy to keep their memory alive like this.

After these three, we got the sibling tabby cats Patches (brown tabby) and Pebbles (orange tabby) and a beautiful holy burma named Wilma shortly after (not sure of her breed but that's the vets guess). We recently lost Patches which pushed me to start this project. I'm at a loss though on how to translate these next three into LEGO. I'm holding out hope that they release a tabby breed cat but the chances are slim... Anyone have any tips? And Wilma, her beautiful fur gradient is pretty difficult and a lot of the pieces aren't available... I added the studio file which I'm tinkering with, and I was hoping I could make the LEGO look floofier since she's super floofy.

I'm also missing a brick in Ginger's face. Anyone have an idea for a substitute? The brick I want to add is not available in that color, but she needs her signature face spot.

This is my all-time favourite Lego set ever since it was released. It was my childhood pipe dream during the 1990s. It is massive, beautiful, solid and menacing, with just under 900 pieces.

MOC OB-3 ANCHOR Mech

Introducing the OB-3 ANCHOR. Yes it's the third version. This design went through 3 main rebuilds over the course of a couple of years, since I was never happy with the proportions. Every time I rebuilt it I ended up making it larger and adding more and more armor, especially after I realized I liked the look of using studs to break up the larger armor plates. I also wanted to try adding more "grounded" details like headlights above the head and a smoke launcher between the arms.

Question Which One Would You Choose? The New Venetian Neighborhood or Rivendell?

Thumbnail

Hey guys, I need help making a decision here. I've been saving up this whole year to buy the Rivendell set during the upcoming November Insider Weekend/ or Black Friday. However, the newly revealed Venetian Neighborhood came out of nowhere and I like it so much that I am now torn between the two 50/50. I can only afford one, and I don't know if I can save up for another expensive Lego set again anytime soon.

The two sets are both similar price and size, both beautiful minifig scale detailed display pieces that come with lots minifigs. The Venetian Neighborhood is perhaps the best example of what I really like, it just scratches every itch for me. The Rivendell is still equally beautiful and with the added bonus of being a super nostalgic IP, I've been wanting it since it was first revealed. However, if we purely look at the sets without the IP or minifigs, I actually prefer the Venetian Neighborhood.

The Venetian neighborhood is coming out early next month with an exclusive GWP that I don't want to miss out on if I am to get it. The Rivendell set is likely retiring at the end of next year, and this upcoming insider weekend could be the best and safest time to get it before retirement year.

Which one would you choose if you have to pick one, and why? Do you guys think Lego will make the Venetian Neighborhood in a series? Maybe large minifig scaled NYC, London, Parisian, Tokyo neighborhoods?

MOC ANCHOR Mech (Submitted to School Art Magazine)

This is an older version of my OB-3 ANCHOR Mech which I submitted to my school's art and literature magazine, you could call this one version 2.5. Needless to say, my submission did not get accepted. This version was a bit shorter than it is now, and featured a huge chunky rifle I intended it to hold with both hands which I later scrapped since it wasn't posable at all. I had these pictures taken in front of a green screen, and then a buddy edited it and added a simple glow on the lights which I quite like.

Question Can someone with the Ocarina of Time set try putting this together as a big fig cape?

I've been throwing the idea around of giving Grodd a cape, and was curious how this would look on a big fig for comparison, so if anyone has Ganon's cape and a big fig I'd appreciate if you could make this mock up.

LEGO® Ideas Your next trip awaits - a visit to the Ancient Bazaar

My latest MOC is about the bustling market in the ancient orient.

Wander through the market’s streets, where merchants sell exotic goods, artisans craft unique treasures, and performers captivate crowds with their skills.

Whether you’re trading rare spices, haggling for precious silk, looking for spiritual counsel or simply looking for some shade to cool yourself down, this place will provide for all your needs! But beware, there is a thief lurking somewhere among the crowd...

If you love the ancient architecture and vividness of colors as much as I do, I'm sure this set would be a pleasure for you to build.
