Discussion GPU RMA Experiences in Canada?

I bought an open box Suprim 5080 and it’s been working great so far. Just registered it and the warranty is still good until 2029.

Any Canadians who went through the RMA process with MSI who can share their experiences? This is my first non EVGA card so worrying about denied RMAs hasn’t been a concern until now.

Troubleshooting MEG Trident X2 front HMI panel on Linux

Hi everyone, with some help from AI I wrote a tool that makes the MSI HMI 2.0 front display work on Linux, without MSI Center.

It supports the panel’s native menus and can also show your own content: system stats, FPS screen while gaming, weather, music playing with its album cover, or any layout you design in a JSON file. There are some builtin themes.

It runs as a small systemd service and is open source.

Troubleshooting MSI is refusing my GPU warranty claim due to a repaste. What is my recourse?

For context I live in EU(Finland). My MSI 4080S gpu started having issues back in May. Screen went blank with fans to the max(I think it's referred to as panicking?). Temps were running quite high, so I took the gpu out, cleaned it up and reapplied both the thermal putty and paste with quality stuff(previous putty was already expired and leaking oil). Also I googled and AIed the shit out of everything beforehand to make sure repasting does not void the warranty(and every post said it doesnt and its ok with MSI). Issue didn't get fixed so I sent it to retailer for warranty claim(this was a very bad situation for me because I use this gpu both for my work and gaming).

Retailer refused the claim and said that it had to be inspected by MSI, so they sent it all the way to Taiwan. Queue 5 months later, they have finally got back to me with a report from MSI repair lab that they confirm the issue but they're rejecting the warranty due to unauthorized repair. And the entire report is one picture of the gpu opened up, nothing else. What is my course of action? Based on the laws here, they have to provide proof that my repasting has directly caused the damage to the gpu, but so far they haven't. Anyone has had any experiences like this?

EDIT: Holy crap the amount of people calling me stupid/saying I fucked up is insane. Fine I'm dumb as fuck, now I hope you feel better about yourself. Fact of the matter is that I was a very tight spot when this gpu started having issues. I had gotten laid off for the second time in the span of a year and was working as a freelancer for super cheap and my domain of work requires a strong GPU with tensor cores. I simply did not have the option at the time to send this gpu away for 1-2 weeks for a warranty claim; Neither had I the option to somehow procure another equivalent card as a replacement. All my Google searches found accounts of people installing custom coolers and/or repasting not voiding a warranty, and I used the damn AI to make sure the Finnish consumer law is on my side in case there are issues with warranty claim(for those of you who are trying to give me a lesson on AI usage)

So at least here is an expensive lesson for everyone who ends up googling this in the future: do not repaste your GPU, they can totally deny your claim on warranty.

Troubleshooting MSI MEG Ai1300P to MPG Ai1300TS — Can I reuse my existing 24-pin and EPS cables?

I'm upgrading my PSU from an MSI MEG Ai1300P PCIE5 (1300W) to the new MPG Ai1300TS PCIE5 (1300W).

Here's my dilemma: My PC has a custom hardline water-cooling loop, and accessing the motherboard's 24-pin ATX connector and CPU EPS connectors would require a pretty significant teardown.

Ideally, I'd like to leave those cables connected to the motherboard and just swap the PSU itself.

Does anyone know if the 24-pin ATX and 8-pin EPS cables are interchangeable between these two specific models? More importantly, are the PSU-side pinouts identical?

I'm planning to use the new GPU power cable that comes with the Ai1300TS for its GPU Safeguard+ functionality, so I'm only concerned about the motherboard and CPU cables.

Troubleshooting Msi force pro stalker 2 edition is not turning on

I have bought this controller back in October 2025, haven't take it out of the box because didn't have time to play games with controller since I was playing some other online game that relies heavily on kb&m. So finally I decided to play a game that is comfortable with controller so I took it out of box and the controller did not power on at all. No lights no nothing. Just dead even it stayed on charger over night. So I just opened it up and took the battery out and tested the pins with voltmeter. It does recieve 3.5 volts power when the charger is connected but the battery does not put out any voltage. So I'm thinking it is the battery issue. I'm trying to buy new battery for it but the ones I find the female pins are in the center while the controller's pins are on the slightly left side of the connector. Does anyone know where can I find this battery with right connector?

Troubleshooting RTX 5070 black screens, fans go 100%, audio keeps playing. Crashes at stock under load AND at idle. Anyone fix this without RMA?

TL;DR: MSI 5070 Gaming Trio OC black-screens with LiveKernelEvent 141, fans to 100%, audio keeps playing, needs a hard reset. I’ve ruled out PSU, cable, slot, temps and drivers as far as I can. OCCT crashes it at stock in a few minutes. Has anyone fixed this without sending the card in?

Specs

  • MSI RTX 5070 12G Gaming Trio OC, bought new in July. VBIOS 98.05.4A.00.09
  • Ryzen 9 5900X (no iGPU)
  • ASRock B550M PG Riptide, BIOS L3.62
  • 32GB DDR4-3600
  • Corsair RM750e, native 12V-2x6 cable straight to the card, no adapter
  • LG 27GL650F 1080p 144Hz over DisplayPort, G-Sync Compatible
  • Win 11 Pro (build 26200), driver 617.42. It also happened on 616.92

What happens
The screen goes black, the GPU fans ramp to 100%, and audio keeps going in the background. Only a hard reset brings it back. Event Viewer shows LiveKernelEvent 141, sometimes 1b8, and the dump points at nvlddmkm. It started in July (shrtly after purchase) in games (Darktide, Vermintide 2, Total War), then in Unity, and now it happens on the desktop doing nothing, but very randomly and during start of most random tasks. (game launch, or discord to chrome, unity to browser, going to a certain site, I cannot pinpoint an exact trigger)

What I’ve tried

  • Afterburner underclock (85% power limit, -145 core): fewer crashes, not gone
  • PCIe Link State Power Management off
  • Reseated the card, support bracket under it, cable fully clicked in
  • HWiNFO shows PCIe Gen4 x16 with zero receiver, replay or correctable errors, even at the moment of the crashes
  • 12V stays at about 11.8V at full 250W load
  • Temps are fine: about 70C core and 52C memory at 250W
  • Doing a DDU clean install tonight

OCCT results at stock

  • 3D Adaptive Switch, 30 min: passed. Then it crashed about 2 min later at idle while I was clicking around. Right before the crash, the memory clock and PCIe link speed were bouncing between power states
  • 3D Adaptive Steady Extreme: crashed about 7 min in at 250W, with everything flat and stable
  • VRAM at 90%: crashed about 3 min in, at only 68W and 54C memory

So it fails under full load, under memory load, and at idle.

I already have an RMA open with MSI, but they quoted about 14 business days in-house plus shipping, so 5 to 6 weeks, and it’s my only GPU. Has anyone fixed this exact behavior without an RMA? A VBIOS update, a specific driver, forcing PCIe Gen3, anything? Or did your RMA replacement fix it? Also, has anyone in the US gotten MSI to do an advance replacement?

UPDATE: Looks like it was the power cable.

Thanks to everyone who said to swap the cable, especially the person who explained the sense pin thing.

I swapped the native 12V-2x6 cable from my PSU (Corsair RM750e) for the 2x 8-pin adapter that came in the box with the card. Same OCCT VRAM test that crashed it in about 3 minutes every time ran a clean 15 minutes. Then I gamed and streamed BF6 and Ghost Warrior for a few hours at stock settings with no underclock: zero black screens. Before, it was crashing multiple times a day, even at idle.

What gets me is that HWiNFO showed a perfect 11.8V at the card every single time it crashed, so nothing in the logs pointed at the cable. Apparently the 12V-2x6 sense pins are shorter on purpose so the card cuts power if the plug isn’t perfectly seated. If one of them has bad contact, the card drops out at any load while the main 12V pins look totally fine.

If you have the black screen + fans at 100% + audio still playing thing: try a different power cable before you RMA, even if yours is native and looks fine. I almost shipped a working card off for 6 weeks.

Still testing for a few more days and will update if it comes back.

Discussion Second M.2 slot on my Motherboard has no Screw, help!

Hey everyone, just got a second SSD (MSI M470 Pro) and went to put it in my PC's Motherboard (MSI PRO B850-S WIFI6E), I got a good offer on this SSD and decided to buy and slot it in as my secondary ssd.

Just for context My main SSD is already in the first M.2 slot, and that one had a screw already on the board, so no problems there. But the second slot has nothing. There’s no screw and no clip, just the little standoff sitting there. I went through the motherboard box too and couldn’t find any spare screws. Has anyone had experience that there are spare screws that came in box for them?

Has anyone else had this with this board or any other one? Not sure if I’m missing something obvious or if MSI just doesn’t include one for the second slot. If you found yours hidden somewhere, or ended up buying one, let me know what size you got. I think it’s M2 x 3mm, but I’d rather check before ordering the wrong thing.

Thanks in advance!

Troubleshooting MEG Ai PSU owners: "Read data of PSU GET_ALL fail" in MSI Center logs is an MSI Center bug, not your PSU (cause + fix)

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

If you have an MSI MEG Ai PSU (mine is a MEG Ai1300P) with the USB cable connected and MSI Center installed, check this log:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI\MSI Center\Log\Power Supply Unit\Library_<date>.log

Mine had [ERROR] Read data of PSU GET_ALL fail... (6) 3–5 times a minute, all day, about 5,000 lines a day.

I dug into it with a USB capture (USBPcap) and MSI's own module code. Here's what's going on:

  • Once a second MSI Center asks the PSU for all its readings. The PSU answers every time, in about 2 ms. USB is fine.
  • The reply starts with the +12V reading. MSI's code treats one specific byte value at that position (0xFE) as an error, but that value is just the low byte of 11.969 V.
  • So whenever your 12V rail reads exactly 11.969 V, MSI throws away a perfectly good reply, retries 6 times, and logs an error. All 36 errors in a 10-minute capture matched this pattern.

Your PSU is fine. Cables, AIDA64, HWiNFO and iCUE have nothing to do with it. The real effects are log spam and about 6% of per-second readings silently dropped.

Fix: https://github.com/lostintired/msi-psu-getall-fix

  • It changes 3 instructions in MSI's PSU module so the check is skipped for this one command. After patching I got 0 errors in 10 minutes and every reply was accepted on the first try.
  • No MSI files are shipped. The patcher takes your own installed DLL, checks its hash and patches it, keeping a backup.
  • It comes with a check-only script (are you affected?), an uninstaller, and an optional task that re-applies the patch if an MSI update restores the same version.

Not comfortable with PowerShell? If you use an AI coding agent (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor…), open the repo folder in it and paste the prompt from the README. The repo has an AGENTS.md that walks the agent through it step by step. It checks first whether you're affected and asks before changing anything.

I've reported it to MSI support too, so hopefully they fix it properly.

Caveats:

  • Only module version 1.0.0.38 is supported. Any other version is refused, nothing gets changed.
  • It invalidates MSI's signature on that one DLL. MSI Center doesn't check it, but your antivirus might complain.
  • Tested only on my Ai1300P.

Owners of other MEG Ai models: could you run scripts\check-log.ps1 (or just open the log) and post whether you see these errors? I'd like to know how widespread this is.

Troubleshooting Upgrading CPU from a 2600 to a 5800X3D on an X470 gaming plus max, which BIOS update do I need?

Making my first significant PC upgrade in over 5 years. I’m not super experienced but research has taught me I should for sure update my bios before upgrading the CPU.
One thing I can’t confirm anywhere, is there a specific bios version most compatible with my new CPU, or should I simply download the latest version from MSI? If I need the newest version, can I update to that newest version directly or do I need to update sequentially through each bios version released over the last 5 years for it to function correctly?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I sent in an MsI Claw twice and each time they managed to break something new and didn't test properly afterwards.

I'm curious what the general experiences with their RMA Cemter in Poland are, since i already gotbsome feedback of people having even worse experiences than mine (i just returned it to the store so i wouldn't know if a third repair would have been successful)

Troubleshooting Blank screen/white light only

I was using my MSI75 stealth with an external dvd drive and out of no where it turned off and I was able to turn it back on, However, it turned back off again and will not boot up like before it’s just stuck with a solid white light and won’t turn orange like it normally does. The fan will turn on and any usbs that are plugged in work (laptop cooler/mouse). Any ideas or solutions?

Troubleshooting Could MSI z790-A be the source of this major headache?

I have that motherboard and an RX6800 XT6 gpu. All was good, then my 42" Asus monitor starts blinking on and off at irregular intervals but frequently. Thinking it might be a driver issue, from device manager I uninstalled the drivers. The screen went black, not a surprise. I unplugged the HDMI and into the motherboard jack--to run off my Intel i9 12900K cpu.

Still black screen. Plugged the monitor into my laptop, works fine. For a couple days I couldn't get to my BIOS but today I did with the blinking screen. Managed to set to default settings, still nothing. Thing is, the MSI logo with the spinning wheel (it has a name but I forget) does display at startup, then black and stays that way.

I have tried to boot from a USB W11 setup, nothing, black screen

So what could cause both my GPUs to go screwy at the same time: I am coming down to mobo problems.

Buying a new mobo is not my idea of troubleshooting: suggestions PLEEEEASE!!

Discussion MSI Needs a Proper Full BIOS Reflash Option

I had a problem where my computer was unable to completely boot on its own unless I screwdrive my JC11 header on an MSI motherboard, and I eventually figured out that it was probably related to the BIOS Bug. I had to completely hard reflash the BIOS using a tool called FPTW64; otherwise, the problem would still persist. Even after trying to flash the BIOS using M-FLASH, it didn’t make a difference because the BIOS was still corrupted, and it was affecting my hardware.

The problem is solved now thanks to the real bios reflash.

I really wish MSI would let us completely reflash the BIOS instead of only allowing what feels like a “surface-level BIOS change.", not a real bios update.

Discussion Updating BIOS/etc.

About to finish a build using an MSI X870E Carbon Wifi, and was curious:

When updating the BIOS via USB, do uou simply format it to FAT32/NTFS, put the file there and go, or do you have to do any particular stuff and *only* have the BIOS file on the drive?

Asking because, if you can have the BIOS update *and* other files on the drive at the same time, would it behoove me to use the USB drive that came with the board with whatever chipset drivers are on it, or.. wipe it, format it properly (if needed), and put all of the up-to-date versions on it (BIOS, chipset, MSI Center, etc.) to have in one easy place?

Some other board manufacturers require *just* the BIOS file on the drive, after typically formatting to FAT32.

Review Really shitty behavior of moderators around here in case of asking about issues with MSI hardware

I posted about my issues with a MSI monitor. And got my post deleted and referred to BENQ sub.

No, BENQ sub is relevant to their products, and it is disgusting you delete post of issues with your hardware.

Thanks for shitty support by MSI team. At least now I know it is best to return the monitor if this is the treatment I can expect from your support. And I will make sure to write appropriate review on sites out of your reach, as I know you obviously delete posts you do not like.
