Meta Has anyone here been completely convinced of a Mandela Effect only for facts or rational discussion to convince them it's not?
Just wondering whether a ME, once established, can ever be retracted.

I remember one from 2017 by Iblali as a German. I saw one 2017 Video
I assume that was my first encounter or with friends talking playing Monopoly or so, not sure. Maybe. I assume. I still assume the 2014 is legit. https://youtu.be/lGLpHapMiO8.
,
First Mandela Effect mention, I found.
https://www.reddit.com/r/MandelaEffect/s/WjM9pwl1Ly
I searched even more. With before:2011 on google and such. I did not find anything reliable that may have changed the title or release date afterwards.
2014 to 2017 is weird time where I did not see the sources of Mandela Effects that often. I started watching Youtube, playing, talking. No Pokemon, no Stars Wars. Maybe.
The last Mandela Effect I saw with release date is Call of Duty Black Ops 2 13. November 2012.
The comments have common Mandela Effect pattern, while I only played it a bit and remember the granade spot, I tried to reproduce, I assume. A Bo1 one I would more likely remember.
This does not prove 2014 fully. People questioned the sign in 2021. A clear evidence would be people questioning where the sign is in 2017 or before. If someone has boredom, he may check other old footages.
This sets me to the latest Mandela Effect though. 2012 release. Add some play time and 2013 makes sense.
All Mandela Effects are kinda old things.

22.07.2002
People already remember Luke, I am.
Ah this was already called misquoting. That early on?
21 12 2002.
The question is whether people remember having these discussions about misquotes. Someone should message people back then to ask whether they remember these misquote discussions
Multiple waves like 2009 2013 2017 make no sense as a 2002 Mandela Effect hits me. I assume the shift happened in 2013 and went all the way to the past.
I thought I come. New past is a past from another timeline and all things have not been overwritten but were always like that. Misquote discussions in 2002 showcase that it is not like. The new past was discussed back then already.
Now, have these discussions been overwritten actions and facts or did people remember these discussions? Again, you discuss misquotes, I saw the source way later on have the exact same "misquote".
My memory process and back up and control mechanims whether a memory is correct while recalling are all quite reliable. Having mutiple people have that exact same detail level memory shows that there is something to it.
Memory is important as the voice actor of Darth Vader remembers Luke, I am while saying No, I am. So humans are affected too. The only source left are discussions and memories. However, these discussions should have been overwritten too. Why not though?
To sum up:
Latest Mandela Effect release date: 2012. Rather 2013 as people need to play Bo 2 first to get vivid memories.
Videos arised in 2017. 2013 still fits.
People talked about misquotes/Mandela Effects in 2002 already. I was a baby back then.
It is rather not in waves.
_
Tips for more informations:
Use the term misquotes and the precise quotes with " " and use before:, after:
Also talk to people from back back then :)
.
Please do not reduce it to false memory or suggestion without giving anything more than that.
_
More "rules" are liked.
This is more a chemical approach of explanation. We see patterns but not the physical detaik of what may have happened.

Before I say why it supports simulation theory, I should first explain what it does not support:
Anything related to CERN. If there were any effects from colliding particles, it is expected to be of a chaotic nature, such as miniature black holes tearing through space and time, stuff like that, ya know?
Anything to do with the butterfly effect, and probably time travel in general. If someone went back in time and plucked the butterfly that is the original cornucopia from the Fruit of The Loom out of existence, the resultant effect from said butterfly would be us having never formed a memory of such a thing.
OK, so what does it support? Well, simulation theory. If we're living in a simulation, then it's going to use assets in some form or another to significantly reduce processing power. Take the Fruit of the Loom for example, this would be a single asset in and of itself, but formed as a composite of several other assets, so, in this case, the individual fruits. If you remove one item from the asset, everything that references said asset will see this change reflected (which is the entire point, of course). What doesn't get removed, however, are the memories, for these are not tied to the asset. It's like a stamp, if you remove the stamp, that doesn't mean you've removed the marks it's already made.
There's a reason I chose the cornucopia as an example, nay, thee example: the amount of references to this, even before the "Nelson Mandela effect" was coined, is absolutely staggering. Take Frank Wess' Flute of the Loom as an example, created in 1973, which shows as its front cover a parody logo of Fruit of the Loom, with the saxophone representing the Cornucopia. There's also a TON of written records dating back years and decades referencing either the Cornucopia directly and/or "the horn of plenty" as it pertains to the logo. I could give examples, but I'd rather point you towards the excellent research done by "Fringe Field Notes" via a YouTube video titled "Investigating the Mandela Effect - 1 Year UPDATE".
So, going back to assets: Things like the "Flute of the Loom" album cover is not the same asset, because it's not the same logo, it's just a parody of one, and when it comes to text, obviously these are not part of the same asset, in fact this isn't even as asset at all (unless you consider individual letters/words assets, which maybe you could, though removing them would damage the simulation far too much for it to be worthwhile).
But wait, if the Fruit of the Loom logo got updated, why not update everything related to it? Well, that's because a simulation can only do so much when it comes to monitoring itself, and this is true REGARDLESS of the complexity of the simulation, because the more detailed the simulation, the more resources it takes to monitor any given thing in said simulation. Thus, to completely remove every possible reference is to scan through the ENTIRE simulation, and this would either be extremely expensive, or maybe even downright impossible.
This brings us to an interesting point, actually: The best safeguard against the Mandela effect is to create as many references as possible to a given thing. Then again, one cannot do this for everyhting, so I would suggest only doing so for things that already have very little referenecs to them. Then, scatter them through space and time, so that it would be damn near impossible to erase every mark that's made from the original stamp, so that it can be referenced later. Make references to the references themselves, to make the process even more chaotic and random. Make it so that if you cut off one head, the Hydra grows back 5 more.

For the people that have memories of there being more than 50 states, what were they named? I just read a list of 50+ Mandela Effects and was shocked to see that some people remember there being a 51st and 52nd US State.
Thank you!

I was looking through the scrapbooks my mom made for me the other day, which she was always very thorough and detailed about. This kind of scrapbooking used to be called Creative Memories back in the 90’s, and she even used to go to these scrapbooking parties where she and other moms sat around a table and scrapbooked (so wholesome). Anyway, I saw this and remembered going to the local amusement park for my seventh birthday, where they had a section that was called “Berenstein/stain Bear Land). I loved the books and the VHS tapes, and my mom knew them well because she read the books my siblings and me every night—like, she was the one who saw and read aloud those words every day. Before seeing this, I was completely on board with the theory that the name had switched at some point in time. But now that I see this, it makes me realize that I must have been wrong. My mom was good about updating our books as events happened, and she was so familiar with the name. Unfortunately she is no longer alive so I can ask her about it, but I trust that she was right. Memory is a crazy thing!
Also, I do want to say that I’m not dismissing anyone else’s ME. Everyone has a different experience and I completely respect if yours is different. I’m always open to discussion!

It's likely not everyone shares the same Mandela Effect because not everyone is jumping from the same iteration of the universe. Some could be jumping from one instance to another, while the rest did not.
There is a precedent for this. In the original Mandela Effect, only some people thought Mandela had died in prison, while others did not. It is possible only some people jumped from that iteration of history. When they landed in this one, they encountered people from this iteration who were not with them in the previous iteration.
It's possible not everyone jumps from the same universe at the same time.
Think of multiple flags flapping in the wind. Each flag is a different iteration of the universe, yet with very subtle differences one to the other.
As they flap in the breeze, they occasionally touch the flags adjacent to them. An ant on one flag could be picked-up by an adjacent flag if it touches close to it.
That ant would then be on the next flag over, and would thus remember certain things from his old flag that are not present in his new flag. The ant talks about different events from his past, but the ants on the new flag don't know what the guy is talking about because they did not shift from the same flag.
It is possible not everyone jumps from the same iteration. And thus, not everyone shares the same ME's.
American astronomer J. Allen Hynek (1910-86) taught something every interesting regarding "interlocking" universes that "pass through" one another.
Hynek had a PhD in astrophysics/astronomy, was the inventor of the “Close Encounter” classification system, was scientific advisor to several US Air Force UFO studies including Project Sign, Project Grudge, and Project Blue Book, and was technical consultant and advisor for Steven Spielberg's 1977 movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind in which he cameoed. He proposed the existence of interlocking universes.
Dr. Hynek: “There could be other universes with different quantum rules or vibration rates, if you want. Our own space-time continuum could be a cross-section through a universe with many more dimensions.” “Think what a hard time you would have convincing an aborigine that right now, through this room, TV pictures are passing! Yet they're here. You have to have a transducer to see them -- namely a TV set. Well, in the same sense there may be interlocking universes right here!” “… we always think of another universe being someplace else. It may not. Maybe it's right here." (Wikipedia link)

Quantum Birthmarks: Ergodicity Breaking Beyond Scarring | Phys. Rev. X
This is confusing stuff, but if our brains are 'quantum machines' like some have suggested, and our timelines changed, we /may/ retain memories from the original timelines similar to how the universe retains 'memories' of changing quantum states.
Does that make sense? What do you all think? All the people remembering the different history before it really was changed to our current history. Our 'false' memories are in fact the 'Quantum Birthmarks'.

I went to a store here in India in a mall in my hometown, and bought this Sketchers shoe in early 2023, which is the most expensive shoe I own till date. I'm not a huge shoe person, but I was genuinely impressed with the quality of the sole and decided to buy it . Anyway, a year or two later I noticed the T was missing which kinda broke my brain. I swear I had seen the T. As someone who's a bit OCD, the missing would have hurt my brain right away I would have remembered it as the anomaly it is today. Can anyone both from India and outside relate to this ?

Do you think the world can change physically during certain times?
Something like a natural phenomenon, like a lightning storm? Maybe radiation release? And this somehow alters physical reality somehow
So if you remember the cornucopia, when did the cornucopia disappear?

I think the explanation for the Fruit of the Loom mystery is that it was a real thing. But that it was from clothing knockoffs. In the 1980's the US had a major counterfeit goods issue. I will site this article from the Christian Science Monitor as an example. https://www.csmonitor.com/1985/0506/ahalf.html
Anyways to me, this means we probably had counterfeit fruit of the loom products on the store floors. If you go to Walmart you will see the clothing is from other countries, so I obviously this was also happening in the 80s. People who were stocking this stuff probably didn't know or care whether it was genuine or whatever. Over time evidence of this was lost since clothing deteriorates over time and was probably donated to clothing organizations which then shipped the stuff back overseas.

So in the original snow white movie the line is, "magic mirror on the wall."
But if you say "mirror mirror on the wall." You are still correct but you are quoting the wrong movie. "Mirror mirror" is what lord farquade says in Shrek. He does say magic mirror in awe when they unvail it, but when he walks up he says "mirror mirror."

So last night I discovered that in this reality, the jingle for Sara Lee frozen baked goods is "Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee" instead of what I've heard throughout my fifty years of life, which is "Nobody does it like Sara Lee" and I am not happy about it 😠

Hey guys, I was digging deep through archived 2020 Imgur servers looking for visual assets and I found this forgotten screenshot uploaded on September 23, 2020.
It shows a mobile puzzle game (looks like Emoji Puzzle!) where the player has to match the face in the black balaclava with the money bag. The art style perfectly mimics the default iOS/Android emoji aesthetics.
Since this game was massive during the pandemic lockdown, could this be the exact "Patient Zero" asset that infected everyone's memory and created the collective illusion of the default keyboard robber emoji? What do you think? Is this asset already documented by the community?

I’m a longtime moderator here who has been busy with hurricane season here in Hawaii, so my sincere apologies if I missed some event on the subreddit that I normally would have seen if I had been able to give it my proper attention.
I would like some earnest feedback on how things have been going, what’s been going well, and what things need some improvement.
Of course all the moderators can, and should, weigh in here as well.
“Mod World 2026” is coming up starting on October 23, and I plan on attending, so it would be nice to get some honest feedback to bring something to the discussion.
I’m asking for feedback on several things specifically:
- How is this subreddit doing?
- How is Reddit as a whole doing?
- What can we do to improve both?
I know things can always improve, and there is always lot to complain about, but constructively…what things can be done to make this a better experience?

This guy used to be famous. He was in loads of things. But then he died. Like. In the middle of filming some tv or movie. They had to cancel the production, there was debate about whether they could replace him in the middle or not. But ultimately decided that his level of funny wouldn't work with another comedian.
In the past 48 hours my news feed has given me like 5 things this guy has done. The first 2 things I just assumed were bots posting previously released things. No big deal. But today my comedy feed has him front and center.
And the weirdest part is that he looks EXACTLY the same as he did when he died like 20 years ago. Hense why I thought the first 2 posts were tributes or what have you.
Unless someone is gonna tell me he like... Dropped outta the lime light for 20 years and got frozen and just came back and... Maybe that memory of news outlets talking about the controversy was some weird way for him to quit acting.
But no. He died. Big news. Everyone saw it. We all talked about it around the water cooler. 20 years ago.

Hear me out before you dismiss the post. We all have things that are not explained, that is why you are a member of this group. We have a memory or dozens and hundreds where our reality doesn’t line up with the one we are experiencing now. Everyone has a few, but in order for that to be possible I see three possible theories.
A) Time travel or different dimensions created the edits (Hallidon Collider, UFO tech or which ever theory is plausible to you).
B) We all have false “Hallucinatory” memories of how things are/were. And we are now all technically insane.
C) Or we live in an editable world, ie some kind of Matrix like the movie. We are either in different newer “versions” or “updates” hence our different memories and ME experiencee. This could be better explained with the Neural Network theory (see youtube : The Matrix Explained [link at bottom] for more details) but the general idea is we maintain the Matrix (Illusion) thru neural network of everyone plugged into the Matrix. But as we doubt the “reality/simulation” we are in we perpetuate the anomalies (Mandela Effects) thru out the system with in our Neural Network. We know it’s fake and see the errors and when the Matrix edits or changes something our internal network knows the difference and fights back. Thus growing our “anomalies”. This systemic “miscalculation grows” and eventually kills the system as we ourselves reject the BS of this simulation.
This theory explains a lot of things in the world, like why there are very different classes. How our politicians and leaders are so out of touch with everyday life. Why they do such odd shit to “torture” us more (Matrix last movie with the Analyst touches on this). Why so many people do insane and dumb shit and do not care about the world or lives or environment. It even gives a plausible case as to how the ME is perpetuated or even exisits. The way the world tries to confuse us or keep us distracted. But the main point is it would give plausible ideas on how come we experience Mandela Effects in our memories and experiences.
The Martix Explained on Youtube
Check out this channel and pay attention to the Neural Network and how the anomaly will grow till a “Neo” is given “birth”. I’m not saying we expect a messiah or anything but it can lend weight to many “irregularities” we experience.

He directly talks about the mandela effecct briefly but more importantly some studies around memory. Memory simple can't be trusted and we've proven it time and time again.

For anyone who doesn't know, there a some people (including me) who remember him having been asleep for 100 years instead of just 20. It's not super common, but there's a old thread on here mentioning it. Anyway: there's this Goosebumps book Don't Go To Sleep, where this kid goes to sleep in the guest room and ends up waking up and an alternate realty each time. The first time, he's about 4 years older than before. Anyway, on page 15 there is this "My heart began to pound. I'd read that old story about Rip Van Winkle. He goes to sleep for one hundred years.(emphasis mine) When he wakes up, everything is different."

I know the Mandela Effect is basically a large number of people sharing the same false memory, so technically India does have examples.
But does anyone else feel like our examples are... incredibly weak compared to the famous foreign ones?
Take Thums Up. It was always Thums Up. I don't remember ever seeing “Thumbs Up.”
The Amul girl was always wearing a white dress with red polka dots. I can understand why someone might reverse the colours because of all the red surrounding her, but I don't have a competing memory of a red dress existing.
Same with Shahenshah. It was always “Rishte mein toh hum tumhare baap hote hain.” “Lagte hain” being repeated in mimicry, skits and everyday conversation can easily explain why people remember it that way.
Compare that with famous foreign examples where huge numbers of people describe an oddly specific and vivid alternative- a cornucopia behind the Fruit of the Loom fruit, a monocle on the Monopoly Man, “Berenstein” instead of “Berenstain,” etc.
Obviously those are still false memories. I'm not suggesting the alternative versions actually existed.
My point is that Indian examples seem mostly like predictable memory errors, whereas some foreign Mandela Effects produce remarkably specific alternative memories that people insist they can actually visualise or remember encountering.
So: Do we have an Indian Mandela Effect of THAT level? Something where the false version is unusually specific, vivid and widely shared?
