youtu.bediscussion 90's soundtracks!
I absolutely love the albums for Batman Forever, Songs in the key of X, Spawn, Lost Highway...
They feel like they are actual expansions of these movies (or series), and transport me to those worlds. The soundtrack for Singles is good but feels more like a compilation album, probably because the movie is set in this reality.
Do they still make soundtracks like these? What are your favourites?

discussion Feeling weird about liking old music
does this break the sub rules:
Hello, lately I've been having some intrusive thoughts that suck the joy out of music I love, the vast majority of albums I listen to are from 50s to 80s (classical music is my favorite and by far what i listen to most but let's ignore that for now), this started really bugging me, like why the hell I'm I listening to something so damn old? I mean the only active musician I listen to is Kanye, but the majority of my favorite musicians are long dead, this makes feel like my taste is dead or stuck in the past, I know for a fact the kind of music I love almost certainly will never become famous or made again.
I forgot to mention I'm 19 so that's the problem, does anybody also face this? If so how did you deal with it?
For reference, other than classical I listen to jazz, soul, and some kinds of rock.

discussion Necesito descargar partituras
¡Hola, buenas tardes!
¿De casualidad conocen algún supositorio online de partituras además de IMSLP? Porque hay partituras que no encuentro en esa página, más que nada cuando busco compositores contemporáneos. ¿Algo parecido al Megathread pero de partituras no hay?

discussion How are we doing in the world of producers and DJs and guys like me who make AI assisted playing listers?
Greetings fellow music lovers.
For the past 2 or so years I've been exploring using AI to develop playing listers (I can't use the real word for it here??) for the yoga classes I lead. It began as choosing songs that felt right and then ordering them so that it made sense by ear. But then I started developing a better musical vocabulary and started considering BPM.
I began asking ChatGPT to research song tempos and help me organize music around the timing of yoga postures. Eventually, we (it and me) developed what I call a musical waveform: starting with quiet ambient music, gradually building tempo and energy into a sustained electronic/house groove, and then slowing everything down for the final relaxation.
But BPM alone doesn't tell you how a song actually feels. That requires the human element and many hours of listening. So we started examining perceived energy, bass and percussion, musical layering, breakdowns, and those satisfying moments when the beat returns. I began using Apple Music exports, DJ metadata, music criticism and artist interviews to help research and sequence tracks.
More recently, I've had AI analyze the actual audio files of some of my favourite recordings, particularly music by Marsh, Zankee Gulati, and Richard Houghton, all of whom gave me express permission to use their tracks in my playing listers. The idea is to understand analytically what I enjoy about the production, melody, rhythm and structure, and then use that knowledge to discover other music I might enjoy.
Before it was just me vibing illiterately.
This has developed into a surprisingly elaborate playing lister-building system.I'm now on version 5.6 of an operating protocol that includes musical preferences, sequencing rules, waveform analysis, a 133 BPM ceiling, and methods for researching and evaluating new tracks. I've also worked on getting the resulting playing lists automatically into Apple Music and Spotify.
Of course, AI still makes mistakes (many mistakes, many terrible lame mistakes), and I still have to listen and decide what actually works. But the process has taught me a great deal about music and my own preferences.
I'm certainly not a music producer, but I really enjoy pretending to be a DJ.
I'm curious whether anyone else has experimented with AI-assisted playing listers building to this extent, rather than simply asking it to recommend some songs.

discussion How my mind makes connections with songs and the ambiguity of word meanings and seeing if y'all do this too
All right here we go. Gonna explain my ADHD type line of thinking.
So Ninja Sex Party released a song called Going on a Date which is a pretty hilarious song. I love it. The more I listen to it the more I can hear some pop punk/emo elements e.g. Front Bottoms/Remo Drive. Like if Danny was more harsh with his voice and in the hands of an emo producer it could definitely work.
Then I thought about the Front Bottoms and how I used to be really into then and this morning at the gym I put on Flashlight (which is an amazing song) and when looked up the song title on Spotify, the app also recommended Parliament's Flashlight which is an equally awesome song for different reasons. Two songs, diametrically opposed in tone and lyrics, using the same song for different metaphors.
And that's always wild to me. Because I can either be so bad in my feelings and listen to one of the seminal 2010s pop punk outfits or I can get funky funky funky and get down to some p-funk.
So that's where I'm at today. Tune in next time when I explore the similarities between Michael McDonald's and Patrick Stump's voices which will probably be a bit controversial depending how much of an edge lord you might be. But don't be like that the Doobie Brothers and Fall Out Boy are equally awesome.
So yeah do y'all do this too in some capacity?

article Hairology is important
instagram.comIf you don’t know already, hairology is one of the core pillars of iconology. This is a clear as day example of good branding for an artist and should be considered within the goal post.

music Does anyone remember this song?
I vividly remember listening to this song back in late 00s to early 2010s. I totally thought it was a popular song but it only has 400,000 plays. Maybe I found it on iTunes when looking for Forget You by CeeLo Green. Idk!

discussion Anyone else notice how kids today skip the shared music moments we had?
my class went on a walk last week and two kids were sharing one pair of earbuds, taking turns picking songs from a phone. it looked fun but something felt off. when I was their age you heard the same song over and over at recess or in the car with your family. it stuck because it was tied to the place and the people around you. now everything is on demand and private. i wonder if that changes how songs settle into your memory. my own kids still ask for the same bedtime music but I catch them skipping tracks halfway through if it gets boring. the repetition just isn't built in anymore. do you think the way we experienced music back then made it last differently?

discussion Cameron Winter Live at Carnegie Hall is the most beautiful thing that's has happened to music in the last decades.
It's a beautiful masterpiece that honestly doesn't need explaining. His voice and piano is perfect and I don't think I've heard a better live album in a long time. Planning to watch the PTA documentary soon, but knowing PTA that will be great too. Do yourself a favor and go listen to it if you haven't. All I have to say is thank you Cameron Winter for this masterpiece.
