Hey everyone!

I’m currently traveling through Thailand and have taken some photos that I’m pretty happy with!

However, I’m not sure if I’ve gone a bit too far with the editing.
What do you think? Do you have any suggestions on how I could improve them? :)

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and expertise!

Looking for a travel tripod

Post image
• Upvotes

Hi guys

im looking for a travel tripod. i just ordered the Ulanzi JJ06 glidego, which basically is perfect in terms of features i like, but doesnt really feel sturdy enough.

im looking for a tripod about the same weight (less than 2kg) and hight (at least 160cm/folded about 50cm)

i prefer to have buckle locks to extend the legs and not those which you have to screw open and shut (sorry, i dont know the right term).

a bit more important is the camera locking mechanism. i prefere to put the quick release plate in and locking it with a slider. i dont like to put the camera on the tripod and screw it to fix it. like in the photo of the ulanzi.

i also like a video head instead of the ball head.

im willing to pay up to 300 euro.

as i said, the ulanzi jj06 has all those features but honestly i would not trust this tripod with a 500mm lens and like a sony a1 cam. it just doesnt seem sturdy enough.

would love to get some suggestions where to look?

Need help going back to my passion.

Hi, im 16m and i don't know if i could call myself an actual "photographer" even tho i've started at 10.

The first time i've touched a camera was in 2019, then in 2023 all up to 2026 but im still some sort of begginer and barely an amateur since i haven't touched my camera for over a year..

I used to only do car photography but it quickly became boring and stressfull after a few encounters. Just a bit after i've found myself a love for fashion and slowly the dream of being a fashion photographer grew bigger in me. Its the only dream i have for my futur keeping me alive tbh, apart from that im passionless and talentless.

Now like i said, i haven't touched my camera in over a year. I have a canon 800d with two lenses (18-55mm and 55-250mm) which are pretty good stuff. But i lost all motivation for photography and basically everything else even and i feel like its eating me from inside. I really want to have a futur as a photographer. It would also be great to have a large list of pictures since i only have 2 years left until i finish highschool, i'll need a portfolio to enter a photography school aswell.

Im currently on a 2 weeks holidays and what i decided to try first was to keep my camera close to me cuz if i see it everyday it'll be easier for me to grab it and go outside but i don't know either if it'll work nor what to do to make me a photographer again.

Brand new to bird photography/photography in general and need some advice on bright backgrounds

I've just recently gotten a Nikon d5600 with the 70-300mm kit lens (Not the best I know but the best I can afford right now) and we've had a few cloudy days here in Brisbane, Australia where if I'm trying to take a photo of a bird the overcast clouds seem to just wash out the photo and I end up with a dark shadow of a bird with very little detail.

Currently have my shutter speed at 1/500, aperture at F8 and ISO is on auto. Should I be adjusting the ISO in the conditions to be lower to compensate for how bright the background is? Or should I just be trying to avoid shooting straight at the sky? Do I need to hire a crane to snap some photos of birds? 😅 I've added a photo I took my first day out on a sunny day that turned out pretty well.

As I said I'm brand new so barely know what I'm doing short of watching a few videos on YouTube. Putting in some recommended settings and snapping away. I know I should really have a longer lens for better photos but I don't have $1000 to drop on a better one just yet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What am I doing wrong?

My photos always seem out of focus. I had a T5i and got a RP and adapter to use with my 18-105 / 55-255 lenses.

No matter what I do (click on the subject on the screen, use the sight, get the focus square over the people) my photos always seem to turn out blurry and pixelated. Now they’re not super blurry but I’d like to be able to zoom in and see details or eyelashes and I never can. Seems like the only time I get a good photo is when I’m zoomed in so close it’s nearly impossible to be out of focus.

What am I doing wrong to always miss the focus? Some examples..

But and the end adding 2 animal photos that I think turned out crystal clear (dog better than cat) maybe it’s because it’s the 55-255 lens which can’t really be used for people..

Someone said my lens with adapter only uses like 10MP and I NEED to get new lenses. Others say no that’s not it.

Anyway.. thanks in advance!

Hi, I’m in the last course of my photography technician and I have to come with an idea for a final project. My professor liked this picture I took earlier in the process, but I can’t find an idea of a project that integrates something like this… so any ideas will help me
Thank you in advance

Need help fixing a photo.

I was shooting an event where a band was performing. At the end, I took a photo of the band on stage with the audience behind them. I only focused on the band and shot from a low angle, so the audience isn't clearly visible.
I've shot so many events and I don't know how I messed this one up. Is there anything that can be done? I tried Google Gemini by uploading the band photo and a separate audience photo, but it keeps changing the faces of the people.
I'm feeling really low about this one mistake. Please help. :(

I feel like I should quit this job

I’ve been doing photography and videography professionally for a decade now, and I’m honestly at a point where I don’t know what to do.

From the very beginning, I’ve been a very Type B, hyperfocused, scattered-but-deeply-caring kind of business owner. I love the creative side of this job, and I genuinely care about my couples and the work I deliver. But I’ve always struggled with the less glamorous, equally important parts of running a business: communication, staying organized, taking care of my gear, and making sure every single file is backed up properly.

Over the last 10 years, I’ve made a handful of significant mistakes. Thankfully, not constantly, but serious enough that you’d think experiencing them once would be enough to make sure they never happened again.

There have been times when I forget to transfer audio files and then wipe the cards. I’ve had to ask couples to re-record their vows (this has happened twice). About six years ago, before I started keeping multiple backups, a hard drive crashed, and I had to spend an enormous amount of money on data recovery because I didn’t have a second copy. Thankfully, I got those files back, but it was a costly lesson.

And the biggest, most recurring issue? Forgetting I shot on 3 memory cards instead of 2 and not transferring any of those files from the third card and then formatting them for another wedding.

I have ADHD, and I feel like I’ve tried SO hard to put systems in place to work with my brain rather than against it. I leave myself notes, back up files immediately, dual-record wherever possible, upload things to the cloud, and keep memory cards untouched until a wedding has been delivered.
I genuinely have tried to learn from my mistakes and build better habits.

But somehow, I keep finding myself here.

I have now, for the second time in the last two years, forgotten an entire memory card containing photos from the end of a wedding day. Both times, it’s been when I’m shooting photography and not videography, and the card has been sitting in my card case rather than in my camera. For whatever reason, those files have slipped through the cracks and I forget to transfer the files completely and then down the road, use the card for another wedding.

Today, I got off the phone with a crying bride who was super great and kind, but knowing that I’ve lost a significant part of someone’s wedding day makes me feel physically ill no matter how nice about it she was. I had to tell her that I lost her entire reception because of my stupid mistake. Their first dance, parent dances, dancing with family and friends, and so many moments that can never truly be recreated.

I almost wanted her to yell at me or demand a full refund but she was so understanding and nice… which in a way makes me feel worse?

I am absolutely devastated. I feel ashamed, sick to my stomach, and honestly, like a complete fraud.

I’ve been doing this for TEN YEARS. How am I still making mistakes like this? How can I care so much about my couples and my work, yet keep making these kinds of errors? At what point do I have to stop blaming my scattered brain and admit that maybe I’m just not cut out for this?

I don’t know if I’m posting this because I genuinely need advice, because I need to hear from other photographers and videographers who have struggled with similar things, or because a part of me feels like I deserve to be torn apart for what I’ve done.

Maybe I need someone to tell me to get my act together. Maybe I need to hear that I should quit. I honestly don’t know.

I’m not trying to excuse what happened because of ADHD or my personality. I know that these mistakes have real consequences, and I know how heartbreaking it is for a couple to lose moments they trusted me to preserve. I take that seriously.
But I also know that I’ve spent years trying to improve, putting systems in place, and genuinely wanting to do better. And right now, I feel like I can’t even trust myself to do the job I’ve been doing for a decade.

So I guess I’m asking my fellow photographers and videographers: Have any of you struggled with recurring mistakes like this, even after trying to put systems in place? How did you overcome them? Did you have to completely change the way you work? And at what point do you decide that something you love doing might not be something you can responsibly continue doing?

I know putting this out there opens me up to criticism, and I understand that. I’m not looking for anyone to tell me what happened was okay. It wasn’t.

I just genuinely don’t know where to go from here, and I could really use some honest advice.

Editing question

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello, me and my family had some family photos done by a local photographer and I’m wondering if this kind of editing is typical? We received one preview photo today and are expecting the rest soon. I’ve never had photos done before so idk what to expect. Mine and my daughter’s face is really throwing me off. Our smiles don’t look like that in person and her eyes look a bit strange. They may not to a random person but as her mother she just looks a bit different than she does in person. If anyone that is experienced with editing could tell me if this is normal or if ai was possibly used to change our faces? Thank you. (I also want to add that I am in no way coming for the photographer we used. They were extremely kind and professional. I’m just not sure why the photo turned out this way and just hoping someone could explain)
