Where "should" I crop exactly? It's something I've always struggled with, what do you think?

The first image is the original RAW (converted to Jpg for Reddit), the second picture is how I first cropped it and thought it was okay (maybe a little boring?) The third image is messing around trying to find a different composition and now I'm not sure. What do you think?

Are you ever really happy with your final crops? When do you decide enough is enough? I could edit this picture for hours and never be happy.

Thank you!

Help me decide

So my friend and I decided to do a casual photoshoot, and now I’m struggling to choose which pictures to post. I want to share 2–3 photos on social media, but a lot of them have the same pose, and I’m worried it might feel a bit repetitive. I want the selection to feel cohesive and well-curated, but the flash photos have a completely different vibe.
Any advice on how you’d curate the selection and which photos stand out the most?

Groom to be looks like he can’t stand his new fiancée

Hey everyone, I’m honestly not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I’m going to anyways and I can always move it or cross post if it’s in the wrong category. (Maybe it’s r/relationships idk)

Buckle in:

So I am a professional photographer and I work in many categories, one of them is engagement sessions. I recently did an engagement session last weekend for a friend of mine who is an absolute gem of a human being. She’s seriously the sweetest, loveliest human you’ve ever met. I’ve met her boyfriend, now fiancée, a handful of times and he’s OK… he’s never given me any feeling one way or the other, he’s just a basic dude.

🚩There were never any red flags…until now.🚩

I’ll call her Cathy and him Brad for privacy. They have been dating for 7 years and own a house together and are in their early 40s.

We scheduled this beautiful autumn photo shoot in a dog park so that they could bring their dog, and a few days before the shoot Cathy mentioned that Brad hates photos and was annoyed we were doing this on a Sunday during football season (I had already rescheduled with them once because they had gotten sick for the previous date)
I tried to reassure her that it was going to be fast and easy and casual and fun and that honestly not many people LOOOVE to get their picture taken and I totally understood. I scheduled the shoot for two hours before his game started, also keeping in mind, golden hour, and the direction and angle of the sun, etc.

The day was perfect and it was gorgeous and everything seemed to be going off without a hitch… Until I asked them to do normal people engagement things like hold hands, get closer, act like they liked each other.
Brad was acting like he couldn’t stand the sight of Cathy and kept rolling his eyes and acting visibly disgusted…really emotionally immature stuff for someone who is planning on spending his life with this woman and claims to love her. I kept gently encouraging them him to be affectionate, all the while Cathy would just kind of laugh and treat his eye rolls and recoils like a joke and say “oh he’s just like that haha” sort of brushing off the whole thing and his behavior as being just “typical boy stuff“
You guys, this guy is one huge red flag.
It’s fair to say that it was really hard to get photos that were flattering of the two of them because his face was contorted into these nasty grimaces as she’s trying to snuggle up next to him for a sweet engagement photo.

I’ve never had a more awkward engagement session! And I KNOW these people, they’re not random strangers.
I’m a professional and can usually make the best of every situation that is thrown at me. I definitely got some usable shots and I can make it look like Brad gives a crap about Cathy. I kept framing it “Brad, this is gonna be great practice for your wedding day, you’re going to feel uncomfortable and everybody’s gonna make you smile and kiss on command, get used to it….” etc blah blah blah.

Not to be judgy of my clients, but Brad looks like an incel: he’s not because he’s been with Cathy for many years, but if you didn’t know that and were basing from actions and appearances, he looks like he crawled out of a basement just to get some more Doritos between WoW sessions.

My ethical dilemma is, do I privately say something to Cathy?
This is somebody that I care about, and I really don’t like the way that her future husband is treating her. I know they’ve been together for a long time and I’m not here to blow anything up, but he was far more interested in football and getting back to playing video games than spending one hour making her happy.
She planned everything: she bought her dog a cute little bandanna, she planned her outfit, she did her hair and her makeup, she brought a bag of snacks and drinks for us (which he did not offer to carry once).
He kept on making these snide comments like “she owes me for this one” and “she’s gonna be in trouble for this”
Are these…very unfunny jokes, or potential abuse signs?
Is he just a misogynistic AH? should I just stay out of it and let them deal with things on their own?

As somebody who has been through a horrible divorce, I wish somebody would have told me if they saw huge red flags (not that I would’ve necessarily listened, I was a child bride 🤦‍♀️ but whatever)

I know they’re going to love the photos and ask me to shoot the wedding (is it bad business if I can’t stand the groom?)

I’m now editing their engagement photos and I hate his face and I hate what he’s doing to her.
Help!

Color Difference On My End Vs. My Models

Hi! I’ve been taking photography a lot more seriously in the past 7/8 months and I have never ran into this problem. I sent 5 sneak peek photos (via pixieset for context) and on my end (iPhone & MacBook) everything looked fine. Tones, Color Balance, Temp. But on their phone (Samsung) the pictures looks so over saturated. I asked a coworker who had a Samsung and it was the same thing. How do I go about this? I’ve never experienced this problem. My boyfriend has a Samsung as well and the photos look similar to mine. Any advice is welcome!

I want to learn to take beautiful pictures of animals. Mostly pets, but sometimes insects or bigger animals too. The photos can be like an animal portrait or action photo.

What do I need to study/learn?

I like documentary style photography, it's new to me but I've been working on it. This particular set I was looking for gestures, human interaction, etc. But I feel like my timing is off maybe. Like I'm not totally conveying what Im seeing, or in the moment I see subject A B and C. But miss the background and then I get a jumbled mess of people in the background that I'm not sure if it helps tell the story or just clutters the scene.

Osmo Pocket 4 vs Insta360 Ultra vs Action 6 for Everyday Vlogging and Photography?

Hello everyone! I’d really love to hear your thoughts on this since I’m a complete beginner when it comes to cameras.

I’m looking for something I can use for everyday photos and casual vlogs, mostly simple life diaries that I can compile and look back on.

At first, I was thinking of getting the Osmo Pocket 4, but I came across some videos mentioning gimbal issues, which made me a little hesitant. I was also considering the Insta360 Ultra, but I’m wondering if I might run into similar issues with it.

Now I’m thinking maybe I should just go for the Osmo Action 6 instead.

For a beginner who mainly wants something easy and reliable for daily photos and vlogging, which one would you recommend? I’d really appreciate your thoughts, especially if you’ve used any of these cameras!

Hello, I'm new to photography and have recently ordered myself a Sony A6300, but I've been taking pictures on my phone for a good while. I wanted to know what I could do better in regards to my composition, and where to look for advice/guides. I've attached a few shots that I'm quite proud of and would like to know what others think. Thanks!

Editing suckkkks

How do you guys do it? Photo editing is such a drag sometimes.

The art of taking a photo; setting up, directing models, and finding the right light is an amazing time.

I can't for the life of me edit my own photos. I have thousands of photos that are just sitting in my hardrives unedited looking bland and unkempt.

I want to be a more disciplined editor but i have no idea where to start.

I'm not sure how I feel about using AI as it feels like I'm giving up the ability to fine tune and fully master the art of post process.

Also feels like if I don't edit my own photos I won't see my mistakes when I release the shutter

I am a beginner. Not really trying to make a job out of it just yet (maybe not at all)

Any tips, please?

[Got the hammer from r/photography so now im here : )]

How do you photograph miniature windows without getting nothing but glare?

Finished miniature houses can be surprisingly hard to photograph when the scene has clear windows or glossy surfaces. The camera picks up reflections that your eyes mostly tune out, especially when a light source is close to the lens axis. Making the scene brighter usually helps you see the miniature but can make those reflections worse, while going too dark hides the interior detail that makes the scene interesting. Instead of trying to fix everything in editing, it seems more useful to deal with the reflection before taking the photo by changing where the light hits the surface. The exact camera matters less than the geometry between the light, reflective panel, and lens. When you photograph small models with clear panels, what light position gives you the most reliable control over reflections?

Amateur photographer looking for honest feedback on my work from the past year — how can I improve?

Thumbnail

Hey everyone!

I've put together around 30 photos from the past year as a way to showcase my progress and share the kind of photography I've been working on. The images are quite varied and don't necessarily have much in common, but together they represent my photographic journey over the past year.

I'm still an amateur photographer, but I'd like to start taking things more seriously and eventually begin charging for my work. Before taking that step, I'd really appreciate some honest, constructive feedback on where I stand and what I should focus on improving.

My gear:

  • Sony A7S II
  • Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 GM
  • Sony 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II
  • Sony 50mm f/1.8

My approach varies depending on the situation. Some of these photos were taken using around 95% natural light, while others relied heavily on artificial lighting and lighting equipment.

I'd especially appreciate feedback on:

  • Composition and framing
  • Lighting and how I use it
  • Editing and color grading
  • Consistency and overall style
  • Whether my work looks ready for paid assignments, and what I should improve before making that transition

One thing I've noticed is that I sometimes wish I had more resolution to work with. The A7S II has served me well, but I occasionally feel limited by its 12.2 MP sensor, especially when it comes to cropping or delivering larger images.

I'm not looking for compliments just for the sake of it. I'd genuinely like to know what works, what doesn't, and what separates my photos from more professional work.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to look through the photos and share their thoughts!
