Announcement Rule Circumventing

1 Upvotes

Posting restrictions are in place for certain things for a reason. The sub was being filled with spam from both sides. As a result we took measures.

Discuss the game.
Enjoy it even. Or disagree about it.

But once the filters and rules are being circumvented on purpose, this will result in immediate deletion of said posts followed with a ban. This is temporary but either we take steps or the sub continues to go downhill.

Announcement Moderator Update: Community Conduct & Ongoing Moderation

44 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

We need to address the current state of the subreddit.

Over the past several days, r/PlayWolverine has seen a major increase in activity. Unfortunately, that has also come with a significant increase in trolling, harassment, personal attacks, bait posts, repetitive arguments, and users deliberately trying to provoke one another.

We see it, and we are actively working on it.

Right now, we are dealing with hundreds of reports, comments, posts, and individual situations that require moderator review. We are also working on additional measures behind the scenes to help us manage things more effectively going forward.

Please understand that this will take some time, and we may not catch everything immediately.

The moderation team here is made up of volunteers. We have full-time jobs, families, children, and responsibilities outside of Reddit. We are working through this in between everything else because we care about this community and want it to remain a place where people can actually discuss Marvel’s Wolverine.

Criticism is allowed.

You are allowed to dislike the game.

You are allowed to criticize Insomniac, Sony, the writing, gameplay, character designs, pricing, physical releases, or anything else related to the game.

You are also allowed to love the game, defend things you enjoy, disagree with criticism, and be excited about it.

Disagreement is not a rule violation.

What is a problem:

* Personal attacks and insults
* Harassment
*Trolling and ragebait
* Following users into other threads to continue arguments
* Racism, sexism, or discriminatory attacks
* Repeatedly derailing unrelated discussions
* Console-war or culture-war bait
* Spamming the same argument across multiple threads
* Targeting individual users
* Abusing the report system because you disagree with someone

There is a difference between:
> “I think this part of the game looks terrible.”

and
> “Anyone who likes this is an idiot.”

Likewise, there is a difference between criticizing someone’s argument and attacking the person making it.

We are moderating behavior, not opinions.

Please stop feeding trolls.

If someone is obviously trying to provoke you, report it and move on.

Please do not:

* Do not turn one bad comment into a 30-comment argument.
* Do not follow someone into another thread.
* Do not create another post specifically to continue the fight.
* Do not start breaking the rules yourself because somebody else did it first.

That only creates more content for the moderation team to sort through. Which means we get to other issues later.

Also, do not report comments simply because you disagree with them. False or retaliatory reports make it harder for us to reach legitimate problems.

Moderation is being increased.

We are currently reviewing:

* Subreddit rules
* Removal reasons
* Automoderator and filters
* Report handling
* Repeat offenders
* Other moderation tools available to us

You may notice more posts and comments being removed while we work through the backlog.

Repeated or severe violations may result in temporary or permanent bans.

None of these systems will be perfect. Automated moderation can make mistakes, and human moderators can make mistakes too.

If something clearly violates the rules and is still up, report it.

If your content was removed and you believe we got it wrong, send us a Modmail. Do not start another argument about it in the subreddit.

Ultimately

People here are going to have very different opinions about Marvel’s Wolverine.

That’s fine.

Criticize the game. Praise it. Debate each other. Post memes. Discuss what you like and what you don’t.

But disagreement is not an excuse to make the community miserable for everyone else.

Remember that there is another person on the other side of the screen.

To everyone who has been reporting genuine issues, participating constructively, and giving us time to work through everything:

Thank you for your patience. We’re actively working on it.

— The r/PlayWolverine Mod Team

It has to be the most generic looking AAA game out in a while. People blame “high fidelity” but you can have detail oriented graphics and a strong sense of style; look at GTA 6 for example.

Insomniac can learn from Rockstar in how to create proper atmosphere in a game world.

Discussion It's not the cutscenes, it's the unskippable walk-and-talks

69 Upvotes

The cutscenes total like 4-5 hrs, which is ridiculous but at least you can skip them. The walk and talks may make up over half of the playtime. This is a 6 hr game if we're talking time you actually get to shred as wolverine. The scenes where you walk behind jean, maybe interact with an object with triangle, those are what kills the game. Especially replay-ability. When I go to the nightmare cabin to replay old missions, like half of them i never do because i remember there's like a 5 minute walk and talk to start the mission. I really wanna like this game, and i do, but this is some bullshit. Please give wolverine agency.

Discussion Thoughts on Nathaniel Essex? Spoiler

10 Upvotes

Essex broke Logan’s mind, which caused him to kill Jean and then made him relive it over and over again until he went crazy to manipulate him into joining Team X.

Not to mention, Essex tried justifying what he did by saying he made Logan’s life better and gave him purpose when in actuality, he stole his life for his own selfish goals. What a cruel bastard.

Discussion I just finished Wolverine and.. I tried to be graceful.

132 Upvotes

I truly gave this game the most benefit of the doubt possible among the huge wave of hate that seemed to circulate early on, even before the game’s official release.
A lot of people were, and still are, dogging the “scent trail” mechanic and using that as proof of how dumb Insomniac thinks the players are. I see the scent trail as definitely annoying but was never a MAJOR issue for me, it moreso just points out how poorly they guide the player otherwise.

IMO this game suffers from issues a lot more significant than the scent trails. (Which.. I wasn’t particularly bothered by because that’s one of Wolverine’s more iconic abilities and almost every AAA game has objective markers.)

Anyway my biggest issues with this game are what I felt like was REALLY shallow combat, super repetitive and uninteresting fights, a really underwhelming and predictable story, and absolutely infuriating characters.. a lot of characters didn’t even need to BE there, serving no purpose (example, Callisto was literally just there as a prop.) And the characters that do get a lot of screentime are so god damn annoying and agressive towards Logan for no reason. Mystique in particular was perhaps the most annoyingly written in the game and her dialogue and aggression was so forced and poorly written. In general I felt like Jean and Logan were written fine but.. left something to be desired. Even my favorite characters in this game just left me underwhelmed.

I also need to point out that this was bar none the most glitch ridden AAA experience I’ve ever had. I have about 20 recordings of absolutely absurd glitches throughout my story playthrough, and my game fully crashed two separate times.. DURING CUTSCENES? The glitches range everywhere from being soft locked into a permanent walking animation, to LITERALLY being launched out of bounds for lining up a parry. The glitches were endless. It was really funny at first but after the 100th glitch it just becomes infuriating.

Spider-Man is one of my favorite games of all time. Spider-Man 2, despite the hate that game gets, I also sincerely loved. I can’t recommend Wolverine though, I ignored all of the hate so that I could get a clean bias-free experience for myself and believe me I was this game’s biggest supporter, but I’m so sorry to say that the hate is justified imo.

Insomniac should not have released it in this state. They lost a lot of my trust with this one.

Discussion Advice for Sabertooth boss fight

10 Upvotes

Hello everyone,

I thought I would share my advice for the Sabertooth boss fight on the best there is difficulty as it definitely puts you through your paces.

Tip 1: only attack (excluding the attacks straight after a dodge as they contribute to his stun bar) during the pauses between his attack patterns as if you try and go for a pot shot after the first parry he will hit and stun lock you as he is faster than you.

Tip 2: if you are using reckless berserker, turn it off as being in rage tier 3 provides no advantage whatsoever and the revive from not having it will save your skin many times in this fight

Tip 3: if you fail to parry one of his attacks just dodge for the rest of that attack pattern as he will stun lock you as the recovery time before you can parry after an attack is longer than the time before his next attack.

If anyone else has any tips please share them in the comments.

Discussion My copy of Wolverine is with it's 4th owner now.

145 Upvotes

Bought the game second hand for $50 dollars, sold it for $44. I was the 3rd owner of the disc.

The guy who sold me the game told me to play and sell it off. Orginally I thought I'd probably enjoy the game so much I'd end up keeping it.

First impression - got my PS5 back from a friend around 11 PM. The game took an hour to copy and I ended up playing from 12:00 AM to 2:00 AM. First impression - very bad and ran in to bugs uninintenionally.

Second level with Jean - way better. Was like why all the hate?

Next level with Sabretooth - again negative impression.

Overall the game was all over the place. Definitely got repetitive for me by the end. Game was okay but definitely not 70 dollars good. I might pick it up again when it's cheaper. I actually had no intention of playing this based on the trailers but all the controversy made me play it.

Currently playing Gears of War E-Day and genuinely enjoying that way more.

I don't think it's a 0/10 like people are saying nor is a 10/10. It really is around 6/10. If for some reason it jives with you then you might give it 7 to 8. Also the no disc controversy definitely negatively impacted this game. Pretty sure the 6s would be 7s etc without the controversy.

Just sharing my thoughts which I always planned to do. Sorry now new revelations on this 1 month old game.

EDIT: Maybe they should gave given us more moves from the beginning of the game. I'm guessing Insomniac knew it would get accused of being repetitive if they had.

Discussion Ending Discussion (SPOILERS) Spoiler

6 Upvotes

Hey guys, I just beat this game yesterday and have been thinking about the ending a lot since. At first I thought it was kinda okay, but the more thought I put into it I actually dislike it more and more. I’m not even talking from a comic accuracy standpoint, because I’m not a comic reader, but do feel like I know a decent amount of the lore, but just from a storytelling and logical standpoint. I just kinda don’t get why you spend the story remembering Logan’s past just for him to lose his memory again? Like I understand that it’s part of a cycle he’s been going through but I feel that it kind of defeats the whole purpose of this specific story we just played through and kinda just serves as a way to introduce Jean into the story to setup the future X-Men games. And I actually liked Jean a lot in this story, but I don’t like that it seems the Wolverine game is just used as a setup for other characters just for Logan himself to lose his memory and a lot of his character development at the very end. And then on top of that, they decided to let him go off on his own to find apocalypse and discover more about his past rather than just tell him, which I found to be a little silly as well. They already know apocalypse is evil, what sense does it make to send someone with very little memory of anything (outside of whatever information Jean told him at the end of the game after wiping his memory) to someone who we know is evil, extremely powerful, and has the ability to mind control people? If I’m missing something please let me know because I actually really enjoyed the game other than this part.

Discussion Reaction After 10 Hours

0 Upvotes

I’ve played the game for about 10 hours and overall I’m enjoying the game. It isn’t great but it isn’t bad. There are 2 big issues that I have with the game.

  1. The camera is Way to close and there isn’t an option to zoom out. I have a very hard time seeing what is around me. Both during exploration and combat. Using Spiderman as a reference,

they

  1. had the camera way more zoomed out, so you could see what was going on around you. If makes you feel helpless.
  2. I never feel like I’m in control. The game has me on rails, the game only lets me do certain things that I don’t know what is what without trying (what I can transverse), and the button responses are hit or miss. I truly couldn’t tell you what the correct buttons are for certain things because I ended up having to mash buttons to make things happen.

This game is fun and an enjoy probably 20ish hours but has no polish, seems rushed, and is more of a indie than AAA title. This release was rushed and needed at least another year of development.

Discussion Subtitles being always off or always on is a problem when there's more than one language spoken in game.

1 Upvotes

Most media forces them on in order to provide translation for languages that are not the main language of the media, but the player/viewer is still supposed to understand what's being said.

This game doesn't do that.

So if you want to play without them on all the time, you miss literally everything people are saying in Japanese.

It's an incredibly frustrating and nonsensical thing to do and it ruins the experience to have to go back into settings and turn on or off subtitles depending on the language being spoken.

Insomniac, please fix this very simple and basic quality of life feature. Thank you

Discussion My Beef With Insomniac

0 Upvotes

I enjoyed the game for the most part, but Insomniac really has a bad habit of slowing down their games to a crawl and taking away the option to skip. Yes, the story is important but it should never override the gameplay option. They even take away sprint that makes the game unbearable at times.

Also, big fumble by not making the game open world. They didn't have to make it like Arkham Knight or Spiderman, but they could've at least made it like Arkham City. These developers are taking away replay value because after a certain point there is no more progress. It would've been cool to fight the Sentinels or Reavers in the streets randomly.

7 out of 10 to me

Discussion I have come to hate jean gray

24 Upvotes

She's always there. Seems like she has infinite powers where she could do everything wolverine could but she's just almost letting him do some kills. She doesn't actually help much in battles but insists you stop what you're doing and finish whatever enemy she has no matter where you are in your fight. Is condescending. please don't come at me with "do you even read comics?" because i don't. I'm just so sick of this lady.

Discussion It has to be said…

77 Upvotes

Tbh I only bought a ps5 2 years ago when they announced this game and I was hyped. A Wolverine game that was rated mature and based off the teaser seemed to be as gritty and killer as your heart desired?? Who wouldn’t be hyped.

Then the game dropped and here I am 25% into the game and it just dawned on me that the gritty and killer part “as your heart desired” part was missing bc in reality it’s not as you desire it is as the game itself desires. Wanna explore this section? Nope, instakill. Wanna climb up this wall? Logan forgets how to climb, oh wait what’s that?? you can climb this wall??? Well you played yourself bc you can’t get over the edge. And lastly you thought you were a killing machine with creative control of how you kill these reavers? Nice try pal we specifically told you you HAVE to spam square then triangle or else nothing else works.

All in all if this is what a 300 million dollar budget gets you I’ll set up a funeral bc obviously the gaming industry is dying.

Anyways who wants a disc copy of this game?

Support/Question How do I make the scent trail MORE visible?

0 Upvotes

Yes that’s correct. I want it to be more visible. Everyone complained and its visibility got nerfed. I just picked up the game and I want it to go back to the way it was when I was watching release gameplay footage. I also want to make sure I see the scent so I can get all the collectibles. Please tell me there’s a way.

Discussion Finished the Game Spoiler

0 Upvotes

Cons:
- genuinely some of the most confusing and weird story telling I’ve seen in recent games. The story at least for me after the third arc was just hard to follow. The plot twist was so bad and made me realize how half the characters did not have to be there. I’m still very confused on the story, and I feel like they tried to manage too many plot narratives and it killed story. Maybe a more x men oriented story may have been better.

- I feel like the apocalypse phoenix and Jean gray Wolverine lovers dynamic was just so out of place in this game.

- the Japan chapter felt insanely repetive, go and find Walter, get ambushed by ninjas, fight a big boss from the hand rinse and repeat

- if side missions are your thing this is definitely not the game for you

- someone mentioned how you don’t really feel the power of said admantuuim claws like you do with say the hammer in GOW 2018 and I can see that outside of rage mode.

- game glitches a lot I will not lie

Pros:
-gameplay is incredibly fun
- the first chapter in this game is some of the most fun I’ve had playing the ps5. Because to me the mission where you try and save Essex and kill trask at his tower with sabertooth is what encapsulates Wolverine. Going with your fellow team X members and trying to go through a whole army while being shot just screams wolverine. I think this game should have sticked to more of that throughout the game. And Maybe an easier story to follow.

- the game could be challenging: maybe I just suck at games but I played on the mutant and I died many times lol but it was very fun and the upgrade tree and DNA upgrades are very straight forward and feel super useful.

Final verdict: I’m someone that likes games that are straightforward. I’ve played Ghost of Tsushima, GOW and Spiderman and never finished them because the open world style of constant enemies and side missions make the game stale for me I really liked the games overall linear trajectory it was a breath of fresh air

If you were hoping for a Triple A X-men style story game this is prob not for you or I’d wait till it goes on sale but if you like a game where you can button mash , play after work and can tolerate a mediocre story than I highly recomend this game because I had a fun time playing it. I’d love to see a Wolverine 2 with these improvements.
