It wasnt about government it was about religion. The colonies developed from people that disagreed with current british theocracy. Am i talking to a bot? Do you really think the british were less racist then the eventual US. You realize the sun never sets on the british empire? They ruled half the world. We just had brexit. How does this have upvotes?????

In their defense, they also invented Canada and Australia - so at least there are a couple of silver linings on this ominous fart cloud of European inventions.

Yes, thank you Europeans for getting us started with settler colonialism, religious loonies and slavery, then fucking off to let us think we’re the best thing that’s ever happened.

And now we know it was a big mistake.

Imagine they'd still live here. I think it worked out great.

you may not think so but after WW2 the USA decided that France would be administrative and South Germany would be European production capital. Then the coal and steel oligarchs with the help of USA founded the ECSC. The US controlled european finance until the end of Brent Woods and afterwards Europe has never been able to manage its own money because that was never the goal. The goal was single market yet there's no fiscal union.

Relevant quote from wiki article:

The United States was not officially part of the treaty negotiations, but it was a major force behind the scenes

N’importe quoi le projet de la CECA est une idee de Robert Shuman, avec ou sans l’accord des usa ça aurait existe..

without america nobody (even europe) can do anything.

This was true 50 years ago. At this point, thanks to lead addled GenXers like Musk and Thiel + a Boomer generation that doesn't want to retire America can't do anything.

We can't win wars. We can't lead global diplomacy. We can't respond to a pandemic. We can't ensure people have healthcare. We can't responsibly innovate technology.

I guess we can send rockets to orbit moon, something we did 50 years ago? Yay! (But not land of course!)

America still has financial power. Not saying it can innovate but Europe is in way worse shape as they don’t have any tech sector or innovation capital. Just 50 years of austerity that wasn’t enough somehow.

When dedolarization occurs the us will still have oil like saudi and Russia. It already acts like these two countries in many ways.

Tu reves tout haut , l’union européenne avec ou sans les usa aurait existe , pense a De Gaulle qui a dit aux américains de partir de France et ils ont exécuté en fermant leurs gueules

France wanted to completely destroy German industry so it can never rebuild. You guys have no clue. You forgot the Marshall plan so quickly. Credit to Europeans: you’re great at killing and ruining each other.

Avec ou sans le plan Marshall l’union européenne aurait existé .
