Announcement Please read before you post asking us to help with your acne!

We already have a pinned post addressing this, but since we continue to get posts asking the members of this sub to diagnose skin conditions (acne in particular) and/or recommend treatment, here's a reminder: We are here to discuss skincare products and routines. We are not here to diagnose skin conditions or how to treat them. This is not a dermatology clinic, and we are not qualified to diagnose and recommend treatment. This is a casual sub to discuss products, routines, and general skincare.

The correct answer to "does anyone know what this is/does anyone know how to treat this?" is "Yes, a dermatologist knows". Please do not come here asking for diagnoses and and treatment advice! To those who have been posting these questions, please consult a trained professional, or if you can't do that, ask your questions in more appropriate subreddits like r/DermatologyQuestions, r/acne, or r/AskDocs.

Thank you!

Is there a routine, are there any components that can make them less visible? Or that's just aging, better deal with it?

Educational / Discussion Please suggest products for my under-eye dark circles. Is it pigmentation or sunken eyes?

Hi everyone!

I've been struggling with under-eye dark circles and would really appreciate your suggestions for products that actually work.

I'm confused about whether my dark circles are caused by under-eye pigmentation or sunken eyes (tear troughs). I'm not sure how to tell the difference.

Thank you!

Sun Protection Why is my sunscreen doing this?

• Upvotes

I’m fairly new to skincare and the proper way to apply it. As of now my routine is to wash my face, use a milky toner, vitamin C serum, lotion then sunscreen. The problem is my sunscreen. When I put it on, there’s a 50/50 chance that it will leave white flakes or balls on my face. What am I doing wrong? The product isn’t out of date, could it be the wrong product for my skin? Is my routine in the wrong order?

I want this to be a replacement for minimalist 2% alpha arbutin serum. This is cheaper as compared to the minimalist one and therefore I am inclined towards buying it but confused as well as to how genuine it is for the long term.

Routine Help How to improve my skin?Particularly the redness of my nose.

I just turned 25 and decided to start a skincare routine. For the past two months,I’ve been using a cleanser and moisturizer (both from CeraVe),The Ordinary Retinol 0.2% a few nights a week and SPF only when I go outside, although I am planning to start wearing it every day.I will switch to a stronger retinol next month.Honestly just bought the cheapest product without thinking,my skin it’s dry and nothing has irritated my skin so far.
The redness around my nose has been there for a long time and my skincare routine hasn’t made any difference.I don’t know what to do about it.
I’d love to hear any suggestions you might have for improving my skin.

Body Care Can removing very old blackheads cause a permanent scar?

I would like to have some old blackheads removed by a professional aesthetician. However, since they are old and quite large, I am concerned that they might leave a permanent atrophic scar. What advice can you offer ?

Body Care Pregnancy safe body moisturizer for dehydrated skin?

My absolute holy grail moisturizer was the Kopari Hydrating Silk body lotion but I can no longer use it since getting pregnant due to a couple of the ingredients. I haven’t been able to find anything even remotely close to this and my skin has been so dehydrated!

I’ve been using the Josie Maran Whipped Body Butter which I like but I feel like my skin is still dehydrated when I wake up. I also started using Soft Services Speed Soak, which I also like but $28 for 5oz is kind of crazy, I’m going through it so fast and it’s just not cost effective.

Does anyone have recommendations for a deeply hydrating body moisturizer? Bonus points if it’s gel-lotion or lighter consistency because I can’t stand the sticky/greasy feeling some moisturizers leave.

Routine Help Good molecules azelaic acid has a gritty texture - get a different brand or switch to tranexamic? For redness

Not sure if the gritty texture indicates instability - should I switch to a better brand like Paula’s choice, or try tranexamic? I’m using it for redness and I’m not sure over gotten any results over the last 4 months. I’m using it for redness, but I don’t have rosacea.

Product Question Suggestons for affordable and/or easily accessible products for sebaceous filaments

Hi, please bear with me I'm incredibly new (and overwhelmed) by everything revolving around skincare that's not just washing and moisturising my face. I've had pretty easy skin after puberty (early 20s now). I'll get a pimple every now and then and depending on the weather my skin learns more oily or dry, but overall I've lucked out with easier skin. But I've started wearing contacts more than I do my glasses and I feel like I notice the sebaceous filaments on my nose, chin and forehead more often without my glasses distracting from them. It's not the end of the world or massively noticeable, but I would like to reduce them.

I was thinking of these two products for a cleanser and cleansing oil:

-Paulas Choice Pore Normalizing Cleanser -Medicube Zero Pore Blackhead Deep Cleansing Oil

If anyone has used these products did they help? I've also heard products with bha are good for reducing sebaceous filaments. I don't believe the products I mentioned have bha so please if any one has suggestions!

Routine Help How to use squalane oil when your moisturizer isn't enough for dry skin?

I am curious as to how squalane oil is supposed to be used in a skincare regimen. Would you use it before or after moisturizer and if you have a cream as opposed to a lotion?

I would love to know how people incorporate it in their regimens with other ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, or retinoids.

I'm considering trying Biossance 100% Squalane Oil since my moisturizer doesn't seem to be enough for my dry skin, but I'm still figuring out how to fit it into my routine.

I use a random cleanser before all of that tho first :P

I have sensitive dry olive skin (im Mediterranean) trying to get a less tanned skin tone, as well as clear skin.

I do this routine in that order (cleanser first tho) like once every 2 days?

I try using sunscreen but i fail to do so on a daily basis :P

Routine Help Melasma, how can I lighten it?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Within the past few months I’ve noticed my upper lip has gotten darker and it looks like melasma to me. Any suggestions for how I can lighten it or get rid of it?

My current routine for the area:
-Using tranexamic acid almost nightly
-Beauty of Joseon Eye Serum sometimes (this is an eye cream but it has Ginseng and Retinal)
-Good Molecules YerbaMate Wake Up Eye Gel at times too (also for the eyes, buts it’s supposed to be brightening)

Product Question How to use Alpha Arbutin as someone with dry and sensitive skin?

I have very naturally dry skin, but I have a dark spot that id like to fade quicker.

Since it’s only one scar, I haven’t really been doing anything to treat it beyond my normal skincare routine. However, since it’s taking a long time to fade by itself, I was considering using Alpha Arbutin since I heard it’s really good for PIH.

I have naturally very dry and sensitive skin and I’m scared of irritating my skin.

My current skincare routine
1) Vanicream gentle cleanser (only at night)
2) Aestura cream mist
3) The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid
4) Vanicream moisturizer
5) Skin aqua uv serum in the morning

Product Question Best red light mask?

What’s everyone’s fav red light mask?
I’ve been looking at the current body and shark one ( the shark one because I do like the depuffing aspect) but not sure how well that works etc and would rather get the better quality one if the depuffing is a bit gimmicky

Product Question Geek & Gorgeous 101 HA 5 Light

I'm an Indian 24F, my skin is full oily in summers and oily + dry in winters. I live in Milan. I tried using snail mucin 96 when I was in India, it gave me small bumps all over the face so I stopped using it. I don't want to try snail mucin again. But I do want the plumpy skin that the people have who use snail mucin 😭

So I found the Geek & Gorgeous 101 HA 5 Light in chatgpt.

Is the product good?

Body Care What’s a body oil that does NOT contain cocoa?

What’s a body oil that smells great, feels nice, and moisturizes? But doesn’t contain cocoa. Unfortunately my skin doesn’t agree with it.

I’ve tried Trader Joe’s lemongrass coconut body oil, but I’m not exactly a fan of the smell. It’s not bad it just reminds me of cleaning products. It does the job but not a huge fan of the smell.

It’s such a shame I really like the smell of cacao, but clearly my body doesn’t agree with it. I love anything vanilla based, but I’m open and willing to try anything!

Any suggestions? TIA

Dryness Finally finished the last of my favorite discontinued product. Need dupes!

I was devastated when Paula’s Choice discontinued their super hydrating overnight mask last year. I made such a big deal that my husband and my mother each got it for me as a Christmas gift. I ran out of it this summer, but with the dryer weather starting, I’m really noticing not having it.

I CANNOT find anything as good. I love the light weight, yet sticky texture of the mask. I love how hydrated and plump my skin feels with it. I need suggestions to replace!! TIA.

Routine Help Oily t-zone despite previous dry skin?

20F. My skincare routine (AM + PM):
Cerave Hydrating Cleanser
Anua Azelaic Acid 10+ Hyaluron (just ran out)
First Aid Beauty Hydrating Toner
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream

Also, I typically use Aveeno shower products.

Previously instead of Anua I would use Geek & Gorgous HA 5 Rich. I switched to the Anua one because I have some issues w/ redness, which azeliac acid can help with, but not sure how much (if at all) it actually helped me.

I know I should also have sunscreen in the AM, but ngl I rarely go outside anyway so for now it doesn’t make much of a difference.

Essentially, I used to have some dry skin issues, especially in Winter. I more specifically for about a year would get actual eczema (rather than just dry skin) on my eyelids. These are the reasons why my routine is SO moisturising.

My skin feels hydrated; however, my t-zone ends up getting SO oily. I assume my products may have sent me in the opposite direction, if that’s even possible. What should I do to reduce the oiliness? Do I need to ditch any products?

I also have some products laying around that I already have but don’t use, if this helps. These are the main ones:
The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% (stopped in case it was making my eyes worse)
Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Toner
Q+A Vitamin C Brightening Facial Serum
Super Facialist Vitamin C+ Cleansing Oil
Innisfree Super Volcanic Pore Clay Mask
La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF50+
And just bought Medicube Zero Pore Pad and a random HA undereye roller serum (was curious)

Any suggestions would be great!😅
