Announcement Important PSA: How To Identify a Scam
How to Identify Social Engineering Scams
Social engineering scams often involve manipulative tactics to deceive users into providing sensitive information or money. Here are some red flags to look out for:
- Unsolicited Offers of Help – Scammers often pose as helpful individuals offering solutions to problems you didn’t ask for assistance with.
- Urgency and Pressure – Scammers create a false sense of urgency, asking you to act quickly or risk losing access to something important (e.g., your Steam account).
- Requests for Payment or Personal Information – Legitimate Steam support or trusted users will never ask for your login credentials, 2FA codes, or payment in exchange for help.
- Impersonation – Scammers may pretend to be from official sources or even impersonate trusted community members or moderators.
How to Protect Yourself from Scams
- Never Share Personal Information – Moderators and Steam support will never ask for your password, security questions, or 2FA codes.
- Verify Requests – Always verify the identity of anyone offering help. You can do this by checking if they are official moderators or trusted community members. If in doubt, contact the moderation team directly.
- Enable Two-Factor Authentication – While not foolproof, having 2FA enabled adds an extra layer of security to your account. Keep your 2FA codes secure and never share them.
- Be Skeptical of Unsolicited Help – If someone reaches out offering assistance you didn’t request, be wary. It's better to seek help through official channels like Steam support or trusted subreddits.
- Steam will never contact you over DISCORD/STEAM CHAT – Report and block them instantly.
We're Here to Help
If you suspect you’ve been targeted by a scam or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact the r/SteamSupport moderation team. We're here to help keep our community safe, and we encourage you to report any suspicious activity.
Stay safe,

Announcement What To Do When Your Steam Account Gets Hacked
Need more help? Join the Discord Server
I’m making this post in hopes it will reduce the amount of “I’ve been hacked posts”. Link people to this exact post so they can figure out what to do. Don’t be afraid to leave comments if you need more assistance but try your best to avoid making entire posts about it.
Follow these steps to regain control and secure your account:
1. Don’t Panic Act Fast
If you act quickly, there’s a good chance you can fully recover your account.
2. Still Logged In? Change Your Password NOW
📍 Go to
Steam > Settings > Account > Change Password
- Use a unique, strong password (not reused from any other site).
- If you can’t log in anymore, skip to Step 3.
3. Can’t Log In? Use Steam’s Recovery Tool
🔗 Go to Steam Support
Click "I can't sign in" > "My account has been stolen"
Follow the recovery process.
- Provide any proof of ownership (like previous email, CD key, or payment history).
- Be thorough but honest Support will help if you provide real details.
4. Revoke Access from Other Devices
Once back in, go to:
📍
Steam > Settings > Account > Manage Steam Guard
Click “Deauthorize all other devices”
This kicks out any hackers still logged in.
5. Turn on 2FA (Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator)
📍 Same place:
Settings > Account > Manage Steam Guard
- Use the mobile authenticator, not just email codes.
- This is your best protection going forward.
6. Scan Your PC for Malware or Keyloggers
Use tools like:
- Malwarebytes
- Windows Defender
- Bitdefender / Kaspersky
You got hacked for a reason. Clean your system before logging in again.
7. Lock Down Your Email and Linked Accounts
If your Steam email or other linked accounts were compromised:
- Change their passwords immediately
- Enable 2FA on your email too (especially Gmail, Outlook, etc.)
8. Still Locked Out? Contact Steam Support
If all else fails, go here:
Be ready to provide:
- Your Steam username and email
- Purchase receipts (Steam Wallet codes, PayPal invoices, etc.)
- Approx. date you lost access
- Any suspicious activity or messages you saw
⚠️ Final Tips:
- Never share your login info, even with “Steam Admins” they don’t exist.
- Avoid shady “trading bots” or fake tournament invites.
- Don’t download random files from Discord, friends, or strangers.
If you’re reading this because you’ve been hacked, don’t feel ashamed it happens to thousands of people. What matters is how fast you act and how well you secure things afterward.
Good luck, and stay safe. 🔒

Resolved Steam crashing too quickly to install Steam Service
Final(?) Update:
I'm not sure if something I did fixed it, but two hours after making this post I am now able to use Steam again, load games, etc without it crashing. I'm not sure what the issue was, if something I did fixed it, or if Valve pushed an update within the last two hours, but it has been resolved.
---
Hey y'all,
I've been having a similar issue to others on this subreddit regarding the Steam Service error seen in the post linked under this, but I cannot get it to actually install the service. I cannot play games at all:
The notification came up earlier this week and I thought it was odd so I ignored it and I was able to use Steam fine for the days that followed. This morning though, I can no longer have Steam open for more than approximately 30 seconds-a minute before it crashes. This issue persists even on a fresh install. I timed one of the attempts on the fresh install, and starting from when I clicked the application to the time it crashed, it was 58 seconds. After clicking the application (and until after it crashed), I did not do anything other than move the mouse when I took my hand off of it. I can click other tabs (like Library, Store, Community, etc) and they'll load, but Steam still crashes regardless of what tab I'm on. When I have gotten the Steam Service error (which is inconsistent), it immediately crashes when I click the "Install Service" button.
Before the fresh install, I tried to open a couple different things (Aseprite and Undertale) and both caused Steam to crash. I tried to install Undertale on the current fresh Steam installation, and Steam crashed.
Here is everything I have tried so far:
I did a manual uninstall from my C drive and did a fresh install on my D drive and the issue persisted
I uninstalled that installation from my D drive using the uninstaller and reinstalled it again to my D drive. The issue still persists. I have not moved my steamapps folder back into it yet, and I don't plan to until I get this figured out. I have to have it installed on the D drive due to how small my C drive is (and I do not think this is an issue related to the drives, since the issue showed up when it was installed on the C drive before I touched the install).
I have restarted my computer multiple times throughout this process and it has not helped. I have even turned it completely off and switched off the power switch for over 10 minutes, and that did not help either.
Here's my specs:
OS: Windows 10 (22H2 Build 19045.7807)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4670K CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz
Installed RAM: 16.0 GB (15.9 GB usable)
Storage: 60 GB SSD, 932 GB HDD
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon R9 200 Series (3 GB), Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 (113 MB) (yes, my GPU is old as hell lmao)
System Type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
---
Edit:
I have now submitted a support ticket. I also tried this, both normal and as administrator (with my applicable file path), and it did not work:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/1x7apm5/comment/ph2jwov/
Edit 2: (same day, an hour after posting)
I can still load previously installed games via their .exe through my old steamapps folder from the original install (so I can continue making my art in Aseprite), but they are not connected to Steam since I haven't moved the folder over yet out of fear of losing them, so I cannot play anything with friends. I think this is an issue due to something being wrong with the SteamService.exe, potentially caused to whatever update happened earlier this week (that's 100% speculation though). If/when I receive an email back from Steam, I'll update again.
Edit 3:
(see top of post)

Question Steam Format: Why aren't these emojis displayed evenly in a straight line on my web browser?
I spent hours trying to align these dots but they are only displayed correctly (a straight vertical line) when I check my profile on the Steam cilent. I did every change (default/custom font, no URLs) but the issue remains on my web browser.
FYI, I created the spacing with the invisible characters (ㅤ) and ( ), no spacebar used. The scale setting in windows is 125%, with text size upscaled to 125%. Reverting both back to their original value of 100% didn't fix. I use Google Chrome, my husband also uses it and he checked my profile with no issue. I have only it on my end.

Problem Steam won't launch on Macbook
I keep searching for how to resolve main_executable_path_missing, but nothing that comes up works. I tried completely deleting Steam and all of its files, then redownloading them, but unfortunately that did not work. I have deleted all of my Steam games off of my computer in case it was due to a corrupted file, but my Steam still won't open. I have not been able to play anything or even open Steam for over 2 months because I cannot figure out this problem. Help please!!

Problem Steam won't start
Usually for me Steam starts with windows and it always worked like that. few days ago I noticed that everything boots as usually but not Steam. If I tried to start it, it will not start in first few tries, only after 5-6 tries it starts, same if I start any steam game. Is this a Steam bug? Did anyone had same issue? All drivers are updated and windows is updated.

Problem "Stopping Download" Loop
Hello to anyone who reads this and thank you to anyone who give input.
My Steam has been stuck in a "stopping previous download" loop for an ~hour and I can't figure out how to resolve this. First I tried clearing my steam download cache but with no luck thanks to being unable to stop the download. I then put my steam into offline mode, which caused some issues of it's own, being unable to even launch steam and I had to dig through my files to change some config settings to get steam launchable. I also tried restarting all my pc, internet and steam, as well as launching in offline mode. My latest attempt has been to uninstall the game and come back to it later but again, download will not stop.
I would greatly appreciate any advice or ideas on what to do! I'm trying to avoid needing to reinstall steam as my internet is kinda dookie and I don't want to have to reinstall EVERYTHING, I did some reading that steam is "self-healing" with some selective deletions of files but I'm scared to attempt them if uneeded.
Edit - The game in question is Call of Duty if that has any relevance :)
-- Posted this last night, still having the issue.

Problem Issues with steam games
Some games on steam say update queued when I click on them, then say update failed when I try to update. If I uninstall the game and reinstall it, then I can play the game, but then when I restart my PC the update failed thing appears again.
I've tried fixes like repairing drives, installing it on other drives but none work. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Problem unable to delete/install COD
Self explanatory I've contacted steam support 9 hours ago they didn't reply here are the details. I download Call of Duty (Warzone 2025 DLC). The download took about an hour and a half, and once it finished, the green Play button appeared in Steam. Since it was late and I had school the next morning, I closed Steam and shut down my PC.
When I came home the next day and opened Steam, the download was showing 37% complete. I tried to let it continue, but it wasn't downloading anything, and the download speed remained at 0 MB/s.
I then tried to cancel the download, but Steam got stuck on "Stopping download" and has remained that way ever since.
I've already tried changing my download region, clearing my download cache, closing Steam through Task Manager and reopening it, and restarting my PC. None of these attempts fixed the issue. When I try to clear the download cache, Steam gets stuck on "Closing Steam" indefinitely.
I'm not sure what caused this, but does anyone know a fix? DM if u need every detail I'm very desperate rn.

Problem Slow download speeds compared to speed test

This is genuinely driving me nuts. I've tried everything steam side, ie. (Clearing cache, changing region, making sure there is no speed cap), as well as practically everything I can think of in windows. My brother (who is connected to the same ethernet on a computer that has everything handed down from mine over the years except the nvme ssd) gets the correct speed. Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated. This has plagued me for years and I am at my wits end.

Problem PSA: Steam crashing at launch since the Oct 13 client update? If you’re on an AMD Radeon card, it’s an AMD driver bug, not Steam
Heads-up for anyone whose Steam started crashing instantly at launch after the October 13 client update, where reinstalling Steam, verifying, and clearing the cache all do nothing.
If you’re on an AMD Radeon GPU, this is probably not Steam’s fault. A component in the Radeon driver (GameManager64.dll, AMD’s game-detection hook that injects itself into Steam) goes into a crash loop during Steam’s startup and takes the client down with it. Event Viewer shows it as an ntdll.dll / c0000005 error, which makes it look like Steam or Windows, but it’s the driver.
How to tell it’s this:
- It only started after the Oct 13 Steam update.
- Steam launches fine if you fully quit your overlay/peripheral software first (Razer Synapse, Corsair iCUE, etc.) and start Steam before they load.
- A game launcher running in the background can trigger it too (the EVE Online launcher does it for me).
- It goes away completely if the AMD driver is uninstalled (not a real fix, just proof of cause).
Workaround until AMD patches it: let Steam fully start before any of that overlay/peripheral/launcher software loads. Launch order is the whole trick.
I’ve reported it to both AMD (with a full crash dump) and Valve. Posting here so people stop wiping their Steam installs over an AMD driver bug. Anyone else hit this since mid-October on a Radeon card?

Problem So Ubisoft now owns my games on Steam?
I've linked a fresh ubisoft account to my steam and tired to start up Seige and kept on getting this error like I never activated this game on a different account and can't even rebuy my games either to get a new license so I won't be able to play any ubisoft games I guess 😭🤟
Anyone know how to fix this

Problem Network performance discrepancy for same game between Steam and Windows Store and Epic Games
Howdy,
So the game is Destiny 2 on PC, played through Windows 11 all using the latest updates, drivers, and hardware.
With Destiny 2 specifically and seemingly no other multiplayer game in my library, in game I lag significantly for all others. However on my end outside of some interaction latency, everything seems normal and smooth. This implies its an outgoing network issue.
I've not had this issue before and it started about a week ago, even though there was no update for the game or significant change within my system.
I installed the game on both Epic Games Launcher and Windows Store and the issue is gone in its entirety.
This would imply to me its a Steam issue?
Things I've done that haven't worked:
* Switched Steam server to other nearby location
* Port Forwarded both the game and Steam PTP on my Router
* Verified Modem, Router, ISP, Speeds, Performance are all normal and without issue. Including during playing the game on all 3 platforms. (Nothing out of the ordinary and nowhere close to pushing bandwidth caps)
* Tried on gaming laptop, same problem
* Changed ethernet cables, drivers, technician verified coaxial plugin and drop/tap room is fine
* Disabled shader cache on Steam and cleared download cache, disabled Steam overlay, Steam input, etc.
The lack of the issue being present on the other 2 platforms, even though using the same exact environment and hardware indicates to me its either a Steam or Destiny 2 issue. However nobody else in game seems to be having these network issues so I am hesitant to say its the game.
Any help in this matter is appreciated, thank you!

Problem Steam download speed extremely slow on recent iMac purchase with a fast internet speed. Need help!
My girlfriend just got a new iMac 2024 M4, 16gb ram and is trying to download a game on steam.
Our internet speed is 5GHz, 80MHz. With 600mbps where the iMac is in the house. But the Steam download speed seems to be capped at 9mbps most of the time, then lowering to kbps, is this normal?
We are in Melbourne, Aus. Which I've changed regions and also
I've turned off limiting download speed and also limit IP address to off.
Anyone know any tricks or something simple that I'm missing

Problem is there a reliable way to get through to some one at steam
Recently, Australia had really stupid 18+ laws for many products, but Steam’s response has been intentionally stupid.
They require a credit card in order to show you are over 18, and they won’t accept anything else. They likely did this to make it as unpleasant as possible, so people go complaining to the government about the law.
This won’t do anything because they don’t understand how stubborn the Australian government is. They never reverse a decision they make. In order to save face, they often lie about its effects.
I got a credit card just to verify myself, but nothing changed, and I can’t find any way to contact support about it.
By the way, only about 30% of people under 45 have a credit card. This new rule is so fucking stupid.

Problem Help with games crashing
Hello! For the last 3 weeks I've had issues with games crashing and I need some help.
SOME games in my library have started crashing; Slay the Spire 2 crashes whenever I launch it, Baldur's Gate 3 crashes basically everytime when I try to save, always when it autosaves, other games, especially if downloaded more recently, work just fine. Both games used to work 4 weeks ago. What can I do? I already tried to uninstall/reinstall them and I did the same with Steam. Any suggestions?
My PC is a HP Laptop with this specifics:
12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1235U (1.30 GHz)
8 GB RAM
Intel(R) UHD Graphics (128 MB)
If any more info is needed I'll provide it.

Question Does steam support use ai bots now?
either this guy can't understand what I'm saying or I happened to get a bot on my support ticket. issue was with my copy of call of duty world at war being permanently broken when I install it on any machine from my steam account, even if the game has never been on that machine before (also I made this same exact post on the r/steam forum and they deleted it, you guys are lame)
