Rankings Posts

I've been informed by a mod that posts discussing resume or win quality in the rankings are no longer permitted. All discussion must flow through the original rankings posts.

you'd like to comment on a particular ranking, a great place to do that would be in the comments section of the thread about that ranking!

This is quite the change. I've posted a lot of content through the years comparing resumes via different metrics for various teams, notably around SOS / SOR and W/L quality.

For example, various posts were previously done here:

I was informed that those prior posts also should have been removed and would no longer be permitted. I've posted various forms of these for 8+ years on /r/cfb as people seemed to find the content interesting.

What's the rationale on the change in policy?

Why are other posts around voter ballots permitted as separate posts yet analysis around win quality is now banned?

I personally have consistently enjoyed these types of posts that you regularly submit. I appreciate that there are (or were, I guess) still occasionally user-submitted posts with analysis and data that are posted natively to the subreddit, rather than everything needing to be a link to some off-Reddit source.

If the content of those posts had been posted to Twitter as a tweet by some CFB media account, I wonder whether a Reddit post linking to said tweet would now also be removed, or if it would be within the rules of the subreddit and remain up.

I was very surprised as well. Tweets with resume discussions are often allowed. Posts detailing ballots remain permitted. Posts linking to other ranking systems including the Massey Composite are allowed.

It seems that the specifically banned content is user-driven analysis of the rankings.

Either that or I found a sensitive mod who hasn't thought through their policy. They rewarded my questions with a temp ban for posting FPI SOR amid this discussion.

I've enjoyed discussing rankings, analytics, and various computers polls on /r/cfb historically and have always taken the view that providing summaries and incremental analysis in a text post is superior to a direct link.
