Pisspost How often can I piss on my compost?
New to composting and just started this bin last week. Lots of leaves and wood pellets at the base.
Can I pee in it as much as I want? Not joking. Curious if I can overdo the pee?
Thanks

If you think you piss too much, see a doctor. Then make the pile big enough to handle your golden gold

Nah. Make sure you have adequate browns. Preferably smaller, large surface area. Coffee chaff, leaves, wood chips/ shavings. Maye consider adding cheap wire mesh to the gaps in the slats. Piss on and don’t fall in.

Pee AND "browns"? Yikes!

Better than "whites" in the compost

You're clearly not as passionate as me about composting

Gotta love a bit of cumposting

can’t decide if that’s more or less gross than just calling it what it is - humanure

I'd say once or twice a week is fine, because your pile is so small.
Bigger issue: move the pile away from your house. Spontaneous ignition isn't likely, but it does happen. It also makes it less likely that the bugs in your compost will want to come inside.

Oh good point.. this is against my detached garage though. I’ll have to find a new spot

Just give it a couple feet. Compost fires are extremely rare but bugs and rodents are always an issue.

u/ImYourNumeroUno have not peed on it Jul 25 '26
Yes! I came into the comments to see if someone else said something about being next to a structure.
I’ve seen at least 2 posts on this sub about their compost catching on fire, and for one unfortunate person, part of their house burned down too.

Idk man I pee on mine pretty often I think (every day? multiple times a day some days?)I’ve never noticed a foul smell, I think as long as you have the browns to back it up and there’s no way for it to pool you’ll be fine

u/PlantCrossing Jul 23 '26
Great - thanks. I’ve got tons of decaying leaf piles in woods near my house so should be set on browns

Yea dude I’d say keep peeing. I saw a post one time dude saved up enough five gallon buckets he smelled a sweetness that lead to a diabetes diagnosis. Imagine how much pee was in his dirt 😂

Maintain a 30:1 carbon to nitrogen ratio and aerobic conditions and you're good to go. There should be zero ammonia smell.
A 1 m³ compost pile can handle 1 adult's urine over a year as the 4 kg of nitrogen can enable the consumption of 120 kg of carbon (30:1 C:N ratio = 120 kg C : 4 kg N), composting 240 kg of dry leaves, wood, or straw (120 kg C @ 50% C content).
The Rich Earth Institute has several relevant publications and technical manuals.
Urine contains 80% of the nutrients (N, P, K, Na, S, Mg, Ca...) excreted by humans. It's best use is as a soil-applied fertilizer, where bacteria quickly convert the nutrients to plant soluble forms. If there are no plants to fertilize, then composting is the next best use.

Is that compost too close to the house in the sense that you’re bringing critters and bugs toward your house/siding.
Not judging but others might know. Also, take vitamins and eat healthy and keep pissing.

Wait! People pee on their compost piles? Wtf😶

It’s been going on for hundreds of years. What puzzles me is how low of a percentage of the world’s population is aware of this.
Perhaps it has to do with the fact that connection to growing one’s own food has decreased so very much due to the corporatization of food production.

Fr...I just learnt this fact....I gonna do this😂 Not gonna tell anybody cz they would look at me weirdly cz Ik my folks would

Drink more and you'll be able to pee on the compost more.
You don't buy beer, you rent it.

Gallon jug under your cabinet. Just don't make a seal with you finkey donkey....that displaced air comes out hot and steamy (learned while peeing and driving at same time). Large gatorade bottle works best.
EDIT: Misread the title. Skipped over the often part and thought you were asking for advice on getting urine on there.

The wider Gatorade lids help with the pressure blowback. Bigger hole for your willy makes it much easier.

If it gets too wet, it will be gross and gets heavy and anaerobic. So thats the main limit. Pee doesnt have a ton of nitrogen, so isnt a big factor, but will balance out a little of the browns. But you wont really notice that unless you have like a whole family all peeing every pee onto your pile. If so, just get a free pile of wood chips and add them.

It all depends on what the rest of your compost is made up of.
Pee is an acid and needs to be balanced against other compounds so you can aim for a 'balanced pH' in the compost. Things like lawn clippings, leaves and cardboard may assist in this balance. Whereas, if your juicing oranges for 4 family members, using 4-6 oranges each and putting that in the compost you won't want any pee in there as it is already getting a massive acid load from the citrus.
For a highly active compost it might be fine but everything in moderation and don't forget your end goal of creating a rich organic source to feed your garden, having it high in acid may only benefit certain types of plants.

u/Brotuulaan Jul 24 '26
Do you track your compost ph just by tracking and averaging inputs?
2
u/CelebrationFit8548 Jul 24 '26
No, but I am wary of what citrus I add and where it is and try not allow it to build up too much in the one area. I compost directly into my veggie patch beds, thus will not be weeing on them, and moving the site each time, often under cardboard. I should homogenize a section and do a pH test before planting out.
Also, we do have several citrus trees in the yard (lemonade, lime, mandarin) and they'll benefit more from 'urea' than if it was to piss into the compost.

u/Brotuulaan Jul 24 '26
So you use cardboard instead of mulch? Or you move around cardboard to temporarily cover where you’ve buried stuff?
2
u/CelebrationFit8548 Jul 24 '26
We only recently moved to our current house ~2months ago. The veggie patch had some established parsley (both varieties), lemon grass (~2m high), assumed a 'ghost chili' variety (painfully hot) but the rest of the bed was choked with weeds.
I have laid cardboard (packing boxes) over the top of the weeds (native violet being one) and ripping holes in the cardboard around the existing plants, which are now booming (weed competition removed). When I put compost in a new spot I scrape the weeds off and discard them, dig a hole for the compost and then cover it with soil and then cardboard to try and slow/stop weeds re-establishing. I am slowly planting seeds in certain spots as we are moving to spring (Australia) but still planning what should go where, etc..
The soil is looking quite active and I am adding to that.

Been getting recommended this sub passed few days, it’s all just been about piss 💀

you can’t just post stuff like this without time-stamped pH and volume measurements for the past 6 months of urination
as a general rule of thumb maybe if it smells like piss more than compost then you’ve overdone it. piss into a water container to proper dilution and pour it around your yard if you don’t wanna flush your toilet. then predators will know you’re the alpha too
