Deliberately making dangerous machines and posting them to social media generates comment engagement & internet points

The internet is in a nasty place currently and its influencing more people to mimic what they see.

There's whole channels on YT of people doing stupid stuff for show. Like grabbing a flat rock from a river, putting it over a fire and cooking on it. For those that don't know, it's not that uncommon for rocks to have tiny amount of water inside them that turns into steam when heated. When the water turns into steam, the rock can literally just explode.

Also there's pointless stuff to. Like one "DIY" channel was "hey, let's use rivets intstead of screws into wood" and doing things that wouldn't last long at all, because screws into wood are the best option.

But hey, they get rich and make a generation of idiots who do stupid things and potentially get injured, so they win.

I was thinking this would be nice to borrow for a day but I like my limbs and being alive.

Oddly I swear I've seen one with the right shit on How It's Made and it was shredding meats...

What in the OSHA violation is this limb chopping nightmare? This kind of contraption will definitely harm the cylinder and everything attached to it.

Safety mechanisms and regulations are written and invented with blood

I've seen enough shit go wrong and heard enough stories to not get within 30 yards of something like this

u/Navicule Aug 17 '26

I want one but it costs an arm and a leg...

I expect this underrated comment to run up as fast as OP's hospital bills.

I like having limbs

u/compost-me Aug 17 '26

The machine likes your limbs too.

4

u/PurinaHall0fFame Aug 17 '26

but have you tried not having arms?

The director of FARGO 2 THE DEFROSTING- wants to replace a woodchipper

Are fingers and blood compostable?

6

u/cirsium-alexandrii Aug 17 '26

This is a tool that is already commonplace, just without any of the housing that limits the number of places you can get your limbs, hair, or clothing tangled.

22

u/EarballsAgain I'm not pissing in it Aug 17 '26

It's neat but the product looks too big to decompose at the rate you would want for compost.

u/bnemanny Aug 17 '26

big enough pile and it’ll break down fine. but it looks dangerous af

I saw gloved hands pop in the frame and it made my hands hurt. Never use gloves around spinning tools, or to load things being drug into blades of death. One limb catches the cuff and in goes lefty.

u/CalligrapherSea4910 Aug 17 '26

Someone degloved themselves this way at my work. Gloves were mandated by my factory before that.

Now they’re not!

u/biochemical1 Aug 17 '26

More teeth!!!!

Like the inside of my ryobi crushing shredder

Good tool but ya it does leave large chunks of wood

6

u/xmashatstand KOMPOSTBEHOLDER Aug 17 '26

On the one hand, it'll definitely take off your hand.

On the other....damn I love watching shredding.

Seriously tho, get some actual safety features on this, and something like this would be perfect for getting the larger 'chop' of woody debris. Sometimes you want something a little bulkier than chips 🤷‍♂️

That’s sound! It’s literally “The Muncher”

3

u/Gagneforlife Aug 17 '26

To shreds you say

3

u/beefz0r Aug 17 '26

Do I think this is wildly unsafe in a professional context ? Yes. Would I use it at home? Certainly yes.

2

u/Purple_Revolution146 Aug 17 '26

Wish there was a battery operated shredder that was easy to transport and move about

2

u/BleuMoonFox Aug 17 '26

@CaroleBaskin What about this one? 🤣

1

u/prudent__sound Aug 17 '26

Yeah, I'm feeling it. I recently burned out the motor on my little electric chipper and don't think I'll get one of those again. At the same time, I don't think I want to get a big gas-powered chipper either. Guess I'll just need to break things down by hand into firewood plus compostable branches and let nature to the rest.

1

u/Practical-Suit-6798 Aug 17 '26

I would not want that on my property or my neighbors property.

1

u/CheeseChickenTable Aug 17 '26

Just curious, OP are you a bot?

1

u/Agua_Verde Aug 17 '26

Nope.

1

u/JetreL Aug 18 '26

How about now?

1

u/Agua_Verde Aug 18 '26

Same as 15 hrs ago.

1

u/JetreL Aug 18 '26

Well with that attitude you’ll never be one…

1

u/TheNoodleGod Aug 17 '26

That's how you end up with the nickname Stumpy. lol

Zero safety, and he shouldn't shove so many in there at once. I was waiting for that one branch to snap in half, sending sharp fragments towards the operator. I hope they are wearing eye protection at least. It is oddly satisfying, especially the sound.
