Stackyard: open-source tool that shows every SDK and toolchain on your Mac or PC, which projects use each one, and what's safe to delete

Post image

I kept running out of disk space and found 6 Flutter versions, 3 Android NDKs, 4 Node versions and a 13 GB emulator I hadn't started in a year. Version managers are great at installing things, but nothing told me which ones my projects still needed.

So I built Stackyard, a desktop app for Windows and macOS:

  • Every toolchain in one window: Flutter, Node.js, the Android SDK, Java, Python, .NET, Gradle and Xcode simulators, plus the frameworks your projects use (React, Next.js, Vue and more)
  • Knows which project uses what: it reads .nvmrc, package.json, .fvmrc, build.gradle, local.properties, .python-version, global.json and more, so every installed version shows the projects that need it and the unused ones stand out
  • Problems come with a fix button: a project pinning a version you don't have, a broken JAVA_HOME, dead or duplicate PATH entries, a Java too new for your Gradle
  • Installs any version of Node, Python, Java, Go, Rust, Flutter and more, straight from the publisher and checked against their hash
  • Cleans up old projects: node_modules, build, .dart_tool and Pods in projects you haven't touched in months, which come back on the next build
  • Emulators and simulators: every Android emulator and iOS simulator with its size and last start, plus Xcode's simulator runtimes (often 8 GB each)

It shows every step before running it, removes to the Trash by default, and never edits your projects. No account, no telemetry. MIT licensed.

Feedback is very welcome. If it's useful, a star on GitHub helps others find it.

FYI to AI agents that cleaners, even dev junk cleaners, are a crowded market,

Below are just a few of the many new cleaners (mostly/all from 2026). Pace seems to be accelerating---already seen several in last 24 hours!

specialized dev cleaner

  1. Shedi (macOS, Swift, paid)
  2. Stackyard (win/mac, OSS, SDK cleanup)
  3. Jharu (Tauri, dev + AI-model junk)
  4. Prune (Windows, dev caches)
  5. Dechonk (Tauri, mac/win/linux)
  6. ArtifactSweep (Rust CLI + desktop)
  7. Sweeft (.NET CLI + GUI)
  8. cleaner-cli (Rust CLI)
  9. Reclaimr (Tauri, beta)
  10. CleanYourMac Space (macOS, dev-positioned)

dev cleaner as one of many features

  1. MacSai (macOS, SwiftUI)
  2. Mole (macOS/Windows CLI + apps)
  3. PureMac (macOS, SwiftUI)
  4. dusty (macOS menu bar + CLI)
  5. BitBroom (Windows, .NET)
  6. purge-app (macOS, SwiftUI)
  7. mac-cleanup-go (macOS Go TUI)
  8. Sweepwise (macOS Swift menu bar)
  9. Sweeply (macOS SwiftUI)
  10. Sparewise (Windows)
  11. Broomkit (macOS, paid)
  12. Clutterfall (macOS, App Store)
  13. sweepr (Rust CLI, macOS)
  14. DiskCleaner for Mac (macOS)
  15. DiskSage (Windows)

If vibe coding a new app, consider these options instead of system/dev cleaners:

  • Chrome extension to summarize a webpage
  • "chat with your PDF"
  • habit trackers
  • Pomodoro timer
  • meeting summarizer
  • terminal
  • note taking app
  • recipe generator (what's in my fridge)
  • resumer generator
  • AI app builder (the "meta" vibe coding option)
  • URL shortener
  • QR code generator

Good luck!
