Yesterday i encountered a new player post, asking for suggestions on how to build out their collection, and branch out to new factions. The broadly shared new player advice is that you should stick to one faction until you get a strong deck and then continue to play it until you get enough scraps to build strong decks for the other factions, before trying them out. This advice can sound discouraging because it makes it seem like trying new things is a bad idea. So i challenged myself to find the cheapest ways to upgrade each of the starter decks into a competent state.
I gave myself the following restrictions for what cards i can use:
1) Cards from the starter set (which every fresh account has)
2) Cards from the Faction Beginner Reward tree (extremely value-packed, unlocked in 15 keys and a handful of games)
3) 1000 scrap budget for crafting any additional cards
4) I can choose any leader ability, since they are all free.
With these restrictions, these decks are extremely cheap to make, and should be possible to achieve within 1, at most 2 hours of play, after creatinga fresh account. All of these decks are "competent" - meaning that they include no more than 25 cards, while using all of the available provisions.
Without further ado, here are the decks:

Northern Realms
https://www.playgwent.com/en/decks/4f7be4242bcd2cfabf09635a0a8c3681
Cards to craft:
1x Raffard's Vengeance
1x Black Rayla
1x Reynard Odo
1x Onager
2x Siege Master
1x Boiling Oil
1x Carroballista
2x Kaedweni Sergeant
2x Winch
Budget: 970/1000 scraps
Leans toward engine overload, with Raffard's Vengeance allowing you to develop multiple engines in a single turn, while Winch and Siege Masters threaten to reduce its cooldown and repeat the order. Kerack Frigate is your main proactive engine, which can quickly swarm the board. Temerian Infantry and Onager can provide a large amount of random pings of damage, which allows Lyrian Arbalest, Black Rayla and Carrobalista to do the cleanup, giving you decent engine-based removal.
Amphibious Assault can tutor all of your most important engines, while also protecting them from damage. You need to save 1 leader charge for Prince Anseis, and 1 for Raffard's Vengeance, to give their order's zeal. Be careful with over-swarming - do not keep more than 1 Kerack Frigate on the board at a time.
The general game plan is to play Raffard's Vengeance in round 1, and win round 1 by overwhelming the opponent with efficient engines. Be careful not to overcommit, and try to spread your points evenly across all rounds.

Cards to craft:
1x Zoltan: Warrior
1x Mastercrafted Spear
2x Dwarven Chariot
2x Brokilon Sentinel
Budget: 1200/1000
This is a heavy control deck, with the Precision Strike leader helping you to remove enemy units, while also thinning your Brokilon Sentinels upon the consumption of the last charge, and quickly swarming your board for Great Oak. You have a couple powerful but hard to remove engines in Treant Boar, Pavko Gale, and Freixenet who contribute to the overall gameplan. In general, the deck wants to win round 1, and push hard in round 2 while developing carryover with Dunca, aiming to deprive the enemy of resources and win in a short round 3 with quick points from cards like Zoltan and Great Oak.
The gameplan is to remove opponent's engines before they can generate value, and then simply outvalue whatever they have left with your strong short-round plays. Avoid having any high power units when playing this deck. Part of the strength of this deck is denying the opponent a target for their Geralt of Rivia. For that reason, it is important to win round 1, and go into round 3, where Great Oak is the last card you play.
I was not happy with any version of the deck that stayed under budget, and chose to exceed it. Zoltan Warrior is an incredibly versatile and popular card, which fits very well in this deck, but it demands support from Dwarven Chariots to give it armor. The deck can be incrementally upgraded further, replacing Friexenet with Ele'yas, Dorregaray for Ciaran and Forest protector with Garrison.

Cards to Craft:
1x Battle Stations!
1x Hefty Helge
1x Assassination
2x Magne Division
2x Joust
2x Buhurt
2x Fire Scorpion
Budget: 820/1000
This is a control / combo deck. The goal is to develop your Fire Scorpions / Hefty Helge and then play a lot of Tactics to give them charges, to allow them to kill enemy units, or damage them into range of your leader ability. The Enslave leader can steal a powerful enemy engine, denying them the value and giving it to you. You can also make copies of enemy units with Braathens and the Duchess informant to trigger Assimilate for additional value. Steffan Skellen is your ultimate finisher, as he creates 4 Aces, each of which is a Tactic, therefore giving charges to your scorpions and Helga, while also triggering Assimilate, since these Aces were spawned by Skellen, and did not start in your deck
The general gameplan is to play a scorpion round 1, and see if your opponent answers it. If they don't, you can try to win round 1, using your leader if you have to, while thinning aggressively via Battle Stations and Magne divisions. If your scorpion is answered, you can surrender round 1, and play a long round 2 and 3. Winning round 3 requires developing a board state where Skellen will play for massive value via order charges and assimilate value. Glinnis, Helge, and Skellen are your ideal hand for a short round 3.
This deck can easily be upgraded by replacing Braathens with Jan Calveit, to guarantee consistency in round 3.

Monsters
https://www.playgwent.com/en/decks/162219b234958c072e682a8d2e0289c7
Cards to Craft:
1x Mammuna
1x Lord Riptide
1x Jotunn
1x Golyat
1x Ancient Foglet
Budget: 880/1000
This is an aggressive midrange deck, which overwhelms the opponent with high tempo plays and efficient engines. The white frost leader provides a lot of passive value, boosting your Wild Hunt units when you play them opposite of Frost, while slowly chipping away at the enemy. The deck is not focused on control, but it has a select few answers to dangerous threats, thanks to Lord Riptide and Parasite.
It is important to use round 1 to set up Mammuna - Ice Giant or Aen Elle Conqueror are her desired targets. You want to play exactly 1 copy of at least one of them, so that in round 2, you have 1 in the graveyard for Mammuna to consume, immediately summoning the other from your deck. Likewise, you want to play Yghern early in round 1 or round 2, because you need him in your graveyard so that you can consume him with Ozzrel in round 3. Be careful with playing Golyat if you suspect the opponent has the means to kill him. The deck lacks consistency, so it is important to mulligan aggressively to increase the odds of finding your golds.
The deck can easily be upgraded into a more frost-focused list by replacing Nithral with Imlerith, Jotunn with Caranthir Golden Child, and Mammuna with King Auberon, and Golyat to Ge'els
Alternatively, you can pivot towards midrange fruits of ysgith by replacing Yghern with Oneiromancy, Aen Elle Conquerors for Werewolves, Wild Hunt Bruisers for Griffins, Eredin for Adda, Ozzrel for Alpha Werewolf, Nithral for Imlerith, Red Riders for Fiends while Naglfer's crew and ancient foglet are downgraded to some utility 4p bronzes, like squirrel, spores and pellar.

Skellige
https://www.playgwent.com/en/decks/c4680d3940aef3302353dc3226d12fa1
Cards to craft:
1x Fucusya
1x Ulula
Budget: 1000/1000
This is a midrange deck with some recursion. Most of your units are warriors which deal damage, which is then amplified by Ulula. This same damage serves to power up your AN Craite Greatswords and Dagur Two Blades. Your leader serves to boost your Greatswords and Dagur while setting up bloodthirst for key cards like Blood Eagle (your main tutor), and Madman Lugos. You can use Freya's Blessings to return An Craite Greatswords to teh board from your graveyard in round 2 or 3, while fucusya can return any unit from the grave, creating rain with the unspent provisions.
This deck wants to fight for round 1, and is happy to give up any and all cards except Fucusya to win it. The goal is to win round 1 while filling your graveyard, so you could push in round 2 to force your opponent to give up their best cards, aiming to then go into a short round 3, which you win with Fucusya + leader. Finding Fucusya is key, so you have to mulligan aggressively to increase the chances of finidng her. If you do not find Fucusya during round 1 or 2, do your best to hold onto the last leader charge, as those points may win you round 3 if you still do not find fucusya.
It is somewhat challenging to recommend upgrades for, as it stands at a crossroads between multiple archetypes, and is glued together by the Patricidal Fury Leader. The only clear upgrade is replacing Donar an Hindar with Herkja Drummond, as Herkja goes hand in hand with Ulula. Beyond that, you need to pick one of the various warrior archetypes which use similar cards.
I recommend one of the following:
- Devotion Ulula Warriors. No neutral cards, emphasis on recursion to let your warriors fight again and again.
- Renfri Warriors. Lesser focus on recursion, and more on midrange value and consistency.
- Golden Nekker Warriors. Combo deck designed around Ulula's effect, but Golden Nekker decks are notoriously hard to pilot., and are expensive to build.

Syndicate
https://www.playgwent.com/en/decks/245dcfefb509479e92ee812d86708e7f
Cards to craft:
1x Cyrus Engelkind Hemmelfart
1x Damnation
1x Bone Talisman
2x Lonely Champion
Budget: 1190/1000
This is a pure-as-water combo deck. This is a token swarm deck, where one half of your cards spawns tokens on your board, and the other half does things anytime you spawn a unit. If you have 2 Firesworn Scribes stationed on your ranged row you can go infinite with Grand Inquisitor Helveed, as they refund the cost of his Fee. Lonely Champion's order cleans up your boardspace, allowing you to continue executing the combo.
Additionally, you can use Hemmelfart to return Scribes from your graveyard, allowing you to execute the combo in a second round. More importantly, you can use Damnation to craft another Hemmelfart by killing an 8 power unit, another Helveed by killing a 5 power unit, another von Herst by killing a 4 power unit, and a procession of penance by killing a 2-power unit.
This deck can be improved further by adding Saint Gregory - who is a classic finisher card designed for Fireswarm, cutting non archetype cards like Tavern Brawl, Ludovicus Brunenbaum as well as weak cards like Sacred Flame and Procession of penance. You can improve consistency by running more tutors namely Mercenary Contract, or thinning packages like Casino Bouncers

I hope that the new players find this helpful.
