Love these type of horse memes.

they just look so stupid like idk how to explain it

Hammer headed bat

Binturong

Bandicoot

Pangolin

I love how cool the Polish names for animals/plants/fungi/etc. sound. Here are some examples along with my rough English translations.

1. Żarłacz Ludojad (Great White Shark) - it could be translated literally as something like The Devourer Maneater. You cannot convince me it doesn't sound cooler than 'big white fish'.

2. Rohatyniec Herkules (Hercules Beetle) - the name comes from the word 'Rohatyna', which was a spear used for hunting bears and boars, especially popular in Medieval Eastern Europe. So the name of this beetle could be translated as Bear-Hunter Hercules.

3. Muchomor Sromotnikowy (Death Cap) - the second part of the name is derived from the old Polish word 'sromotny', which means disgraceful or infamous. So the name of this mushroom means something like The Infamous Fly-Killer.

You can drop other examples in the comments or English names you'd like me to translate.

They just always have an expression like “well I guess this is happening now”

Salmonids: During mating season, males undergo a rapid change, developing distinctive coloration, a hooked jaw for intra-specific combat with other males, and in certain species, a humped back. After spawning, they simply disintegrate.

Locusts: In conditions where food becomes suddenly abundant, some grasshopper species go from small, solitary nymphs to larger, swarming locusts. Locust swarms (or "plagues") cover vast tracts of land, ravaging all the vegetation in their path, including human agriculture. When they've stripped their habitat of greenery, they die off. !!!EDIT!!!: The locust picture I included is not accurate. This comment includes an accurate example

Don't get me wrong. I know a sufficiently hungry bear will joyfully eat my face off. Always keep a safe and respectful distance from wildlife. But I love when people get pictures of wild bears in seemingly-human poses or situations. They're just dudes.

In general, you seem to be able to divide these into four categories:

• Bears sitting at picnic tables.
• Bears using human items (pools, barbeque grills, etc.).
• Bears being silly little guys.
• Bears staring longingly at the beauty of nature.

If any of these photos are staged or fake, do not tell me.

I was scrolling on TikTok and I saw this malicious looking horse I love it. original account that posted the horse is @viqsiaa

I mainly remember it from tumblr, where unrelated posts will occasionally just diverge into a phylogenetic comparison of various rabbits, hares, and bunnies. There’s even a few posts with comics people drew. But even just in its simplest form like these, I just like when the main point of a post is comparing and explaining the differences between these long eared rodents.

they are LOST in that sauce

Why they so long? I want one so bad they are ridiculous and whimsy incarnate. I need name ideas and if this is taken down I'll cry

look at this goober

Admittedly, I'm just making this post as an excuse to use one of this sub's most neglected flairs, but don't mistake that for feigned appreciation.

They are this awesome mix between weird and cool, and that really speaks to me. For one, just look at them; as tired as the meme is, they look like the modern conception of a "skinwalker" taking on the form of a wolf. The long legs, deep orange color, and black highlights is aesthetically quite pleasing. And that factor carries over into their behavior as well. Here's a list of fun facts:

1. Their name is a bit of a lie because, while maned wolves are canines, they're not wolves (or foxes, for that matter); they are the only member of a unique genus
2. Despite looking like that, maned wolves are omnivorous, with 50% of their diet coming from a fruit called the "wolf apple"
3. Their urine smells remarkably similar to weed
4. Their young are born with jet-black fur
5. They're the tallest canines in the world, reaching 3.5 feet (1.1 meters) tall
6. They don't howl; instead, they bark

Just generally amazing animals. I'm a zoologist, and it's a dream to see one of these animals in person. At least once.

As an aside, did you know that looking up "Maned Wolves" on Google leads to the little art popups I included on slide 8 and 9? It was a neat surprise for me.
