I edited this comment so the replies make no sense.

Or "mama I'm famous" or those that go like "I'll ask my crush out if this gets (insert amount) likes" and they're the TOP COMMENT + they never get back
Or those "ill do a pushup per like" and they get 20k likes

u/Dazzling-Nothing9954 11h ago
They're still busy doing pushups, why did you think they haven't answered yet

for me it's "2026 anyone?" almost all top comments in old videos are like this

u/Head-Use-3516 4h ago
I HATE THAT OMG
once i saw a video from 2017 of someone’s suicide attempt and someone said “2026 anyone? 🥳”

It's not that bad. For whatever reason, the likes made them happy and they are sharing that. It's positive at least.

u/Crystal_Pheonix_ 11h ago
Yeah like genuinely why r y'all annoyed?
They're thanking ppl for the likes...?22
u/JohmiPixels 11h ago
It’s not really a big deal but it feels like a comedian thanking the crowd for laughing after saying a joke
2
u/Crystal_Pheonix_ 11h ago
You can like a comment without clicking the like button/upvoting it.
I very rarely like videos or comments. It's not like they're thanking you for literally just, like, enjoying reading their comment or smth, it's for the physical act of pressing the like button.
But sure, I see why ppl could think that.1
u/PUNCH-WAS-SERVED 5h ago
Look. At the very least, there is some cringe to it. It's the same vein as people who comment 'first." Like, Jesus. Is their life so shitty that they need that little of validation to feel something?

u/Original_Ask_2825 15h ago
Atleast it's less annoying then "you will never know why this comment got so many likes"
4
u/UnderTheGreyCloud 11h ago
What would be satisfying is if the user edits their comment to say their thanks for the likes, YouTube will trigger all the likes under that comment to disappear and reset to ‘0’.

still better than editing the a comment to "no one knows why this comment has that much likes"

No not you, OP. I'm talking about the YouTube's commenter

Anywhere I go and leave a comment I just drop it off and leave. Sometimes I stay for a conversation.

Me when I see Redditors editing comments thinking people for rewards, and feeling the need to put edit: in front of any edit.

Even worse, some ppl with post a bot comment like “Whoever got here within 3 hours 👇”, get thousands of likes, then edit their comment to “My content is better than [youtuber]’s content”

What's wrong with that? All who used YouTube did this because they wanted to share how appreciated they felt for getting that much, because usually no one really gets that far if you for example not really comment much, or you comment mostly flop. I did this too actually.

If you thank for the upvotes, you have to curse for all the downvotes
0
u/Seyran_Bruh228 14h ago
I never got that high on upvotes anyway, so it just irrelevant, saying it for achieving like 58 upvotes and that's it. Why should I curse people for downvoting me? Especially including the fact that its Reddit, if you know you know. Half of them are just bots, some of them could also be braindeads who just downvoted me just because they saw somebody else downvoted me, and they do it too without even understanding what is going on in my thread. Not all though, but some of them could.

It’s annoying because who cares. Most people who like or reply to a comment would just scroll and move on and forget. So thanking the likes make no sense. Not only that, but the excessive enthusiasm with a dozen punctuation marks and thumbs up is especially annoying, because it just feels so lame to me. It’s not helping in life, and it means literally nothing. It jusg makes the comment unnecessarily long. I hate tapping “read more” on a comment, expecting them to expand on whatever they were saying just to see its the same copy and paste “OMG TYSM FOR 1K LIKES!!!”
Another issue is it’s associated with pleading or like-begging. The even more pathetic version where kids beg for likes on their comment to make them feel special. It sucks. I just dont get what makes likes on comments so special

The second reasoning could be more complex and rare, I been on Youtube for a while and almost never seen people like these, if I did they were usually bots who just annoy everyone and get a ton of likes.
But for a first one I can explain like this, its like planting a Peashooter after the Sunflower in Plants Vs. Zombies, it doesn't make any fucking sense, since planting a Peashooter before the Sunflower gets you more utility and damage-wise game and use a Sunflower as a temporary shield too. But it feels more morally right and Sunflower is the main Sunproducer in this game, and the Sun is the main currency in-game which let's you buy seed packets to plant out your defense, in which case is more wise choice.

if It was over 1k? i would get it but if it Is 999? then here Is my answer, shut your mouth, don't comment and Just accept in silence your win

u/TEN_Monsters7 16h ago
I depends on the Youtuber itself, what if this was his first ever 1k likes? I could understand that because that is a big milestone, for the first time. But otherwise if it is a YT channel who is used too that, then it's dumb.

u/Drackzgull 15h ago
I think OP is talking about people doing that in comments, usually by editing the comment that got the likes.

Same when people on reddit do it
