Why is physical media still around: this. I dont pay for any of them anymore. All streaming has been dropped.

Unfortunately there are few 4k players left and the ones worth getting cost over 500 bucks now. My Sony 4k player freezes all the time and it'll cost a fortune to replace it

Just get blu-ray or DVD?

I didn't get a high end 65in 4k screen to watch inferior versions of the film. if it was never released in a higher end format that's ones thing, but otherwise I want the home theater experience.

At that point it would be cheaper (depending on library size) to build a media server and start ripping discs - If you transcode to h264 a Jellyfin server and client need very little power

People with good jobs don’t have time to do that. It’s cheaper in time and effort to spend the extra $100

I actually already do this! I have a multi prong approach to my media collection

Sadly, while you’re right and fighting the good fight, society would rather give up our ownership and freedoms for convenience. Physical media is dying and I don’t think it’s coming back.

A shame, too. Physical media looks so much better than compressed streaming. Even at 4K, compared to a Blu-ray? Awful.

That's fine for those who are willing to accept that. Many of us are not. My physical media collection continues to grow with no signs of slowing down. It's just a matter of time until the mindless hordes jump on the bandwagon and drive up the cost of all second hand DVDs and Blu rays, so I've been taking advantage while prices are still cheap and loading the boat.
