Yep, that's generally where I send people after explaining the basics, ad blocker, free VPN options, that sorta thing. Some people just don't know where to look, any business I can take away from the ten million streaming services trying to recreate fucking cable is worth the time spent explaining
In my opinion, you cannot go wrong by paying for a yearly subscription for a VPN. I like "IPVanish" because it works with real-debrid and I've never had an issue with them at all. There's an app called SYNCLER and I make sure I pay for 12 months at a time for 10 devices and I think it cost me maybe $18 or something like that for the whole year. I pay for REAL – DEBRID and I think that's maybe $30 for nine months or something like that. But recently that stopped working so I switched to a different service but they're all the same. I think I pay a total of maybe $40 a year and there's not a single movie or TV show that I don't get to see. I even have it filter out movies that are still in the theater because I don't like to watch cams. That's right there was so many movies still in the theaters that I had to filter them out because I want to wait until the audio is better. I don't mind the way a cam looks. I just hate the way it sounds usually.
Edit: I think I pay a total of $50 a year and that's for everything: my VPN, my premium SYNCLER, my DRBRID service. I view all this through an Nvidia Shield, which is the absolute cream of the crop when it comes to streaming. Nothing is better for a streaming device in my opinion.
It comes with Android so I can install whatever app I want. It has great processing. I can play games on it or whatever I want to do. I've had this set up for probably 8 years now and I will be devastated if I have to switch even one thing about it because I love absolutely everything about the way it runs
The free VPN works pretty good, it's RiseUpVPN. I think most people just getting into this stuff would scoff at the idea of paying for a subscription to avoid paying for a subscription, though the paid options are obviously better.
That being said, if something is free, it means you're the product. They're very likely selling your data, I would not use them for, say, maintaining communications outside of the eye of the government in China, but for keeping your ISP from sending you those stupid letters, it definitely works.
