Man, you need a bigger loaf of bread. I heard sometimes the white loafs can be a little sad but if you get a fresh baked whole wheat or get a nice rise on a handmade sourdough you’d even want to show it off to your neighbors.
Don't most people have multiple types of bread? My bread box has bagels, English muffins, sandwich bread, wraps. Mine has a shelf which is nice so I can easily access each individual item without taking them all out.
You just said most people have multiple types of bread in their breadbox. I don't know anyone who has one to even say if that's true. They seem uncommon but it could be where I'm at and maybe it's more popular in certain regions.
No I said people tend to have multiple types of bread lol. So if you DO use a bread box, them falling out isn't likely to be what you want falling, but everything.
Reminds me of the occasional adjustments I'm forced to make just to get it so the doors don't slowly swing fully open or even worse back to rest on my hips and butt.
Don't know why they get out of adjustment so often. Is like they levitate magnetically on the hinges and the slightest breeze sets them in motion.
I know, l lay out each of my bread slices individually over my countertop and keep them in a vacuum pack bag each for maximum efficiency and freshness. Sideways breadbox
I bet both points, but to me that area either needs to be all used as one surface/prep area, or it all needs to be for appliances/big stationary items. Not both at once.
Mate this is needless argument. Mount a shelf 8" from the upper cabinet, slide the bread box there and be done with it. As is, if you are occupying countertop this is clearly more efficient -
But again both are inefficient compared to a SHELF. mount it instead of complaining about you GF
Seems to be a big issue with the bread box than anything.
Small kitchen counter and breadbox is taking up too much footprint. Also as the door roller is opened means, you have to be careful not to put anything on top that could interfere with the door.
I would get a different bread box that uses less footprint and maybe has another top layer. Also squared shaped (none of this roller function) so things can be placed on top.
I am old enough to have bagged groceries into paper bags. Bread does not work vertically very well unless it’s tight, otherwise it just mushes in the middle and flops over.
I took it more as it will crush a piece in the middle which causes it to bend over, I was saying if you successfully keep it vertical, the pieces at the bottom will get compacted into dense thinner pieces.
But what does paper bags have to do with it? I know they aren't as popular but you can still have your groceries bagged in paper bags at least in the US. Even so wouldn't you just put the bread on top of other stuff horizontally just like in a plastic bag? With less squish than plastic even as sometimes it gets squished in plastic just from carrying.
That’s where my brain went because that’s the only time I would ever bag bread vertically. When you had four loaves of bread, they would fit very well in a paper bag.
But putting them in the bag you basically had to do all four of them at the same time or they would flop over and get wrecked in the middle.
Yeah but this is taken in Europe where the bread is a lot denser and probably contains seeds, wholegrains and isn't presliced. You can store bread like that in any direction.
If you had multiple bread items, and had it laid out properly, then you wouldn't need to unstack bread items off of other bread items just to use them. The current layout forces you to either stack, or use less of the available compartment.
It absolutely can stay shut. It's partly open in this pic because whoever closed it last didn't bother to make sure they did so all the way and have something in the way.
Just in case you'd appreciate knowing: 'whomever' should be used if the answer is 'him', 'her', 'them', etc. In this case, we wouldn't say "him closed it" but "he closed it", so the correct form is "because whoever closed it last..."
'Whomever' would be correct in this example: "Whomever this umbrella belongs to, they have good taste" because "the umbrella belongs to him "
I legitimately appreciate this random little lesson. I always thought “whomever” was just how posh people said, “whoever” 😬 whether I’ll remember to use it in conversation is another matter but at least now I’ll know if I’m speaking poorly 😂
Agreed, that its possible, but I bet depending on the bread you have it could be a pain to deal with. If you just have a single loaf you could push it into the corner and it probably wouldn't fall over, but if you have bagles, or rolls, anything that isn't flat when vertically oriented it's going to slip and either pop out on its own when you open it, or slip to the door before you close it.
I like the idea and it looks nice like that, but I can imagine that becoming a bit annoying at times.
How would it not shut if it’s on its side, they run though tracks, they’re not so heavy that down on it’s bottom is keeping it like, sealed shut? Not to mention brand by brand they’re all kinda different, but like…. It’s a sliding door?? Those work horizontally……. They’re called. Doors?
Yeah, who isn't storing their opened loaf vertically? You wrap the end around in a knot and plonk it on that end to stop the air getting in and making it stale.
My cats usually start using it as a football. And a lot of our loafs here in the UK come wrapped in paper, you gotta get that folding over thing perfected early lol.
Bc the bread I buy has a pretty solid crust most of the time? It's not so heavy either. Even if I have to stack something more fragile, just put it on top. 🤨
That bigger footprint is the usable space. This cuts that space to less than a third. If she wants a smaller foot print on the counter, she needs to get a smaller box one one designed this way wirh shelves inside to have space to use it.
It may sound frivolous to replace a functional piece, but if they can't both be happy with that part of their kitchen, it's no good. Your kitchen should be functional and feel good. Do what you need to for that.
Well it’s the truth. The size of the bread box hasn’t changed. It’s just positioned differently. It’s still taken up the same amount of square inches. It’s called math bro.

And why is that a problem? Takes up less room in that space, and works just as fine as if she had it more horizontally.
