And why is that a problem? Takes up less room in that space, and works just as fine as if she had it more horizontally.

51

u/tomenjean 9h ago

Well considering it’s posted in this sub it probably isn’t a problem at all. Just mildly infuriating.

u/a-DICK-tator 9h ago

Bread blocks the door, and when you actually manage to open it it just flops out entirely

105

u/NecessaryFine8989 9h ago

I've got a broken zipper like this.

7

u/Miss_Taycan 8h ago

even with a broken zipper I don't think mine reaches out. maybe it pokes its head out a tiny bit when it's warmer and the wind blows the right way

2

u/TheReal-Chris 7h ago

Man, you need a bigger loaf of bread. I heard sometimes the white loafs can be a little sad but if you get a fresh baked whole wheat or get a nice rise on a handmade sourdough you’d even want to show it off to your neighbors.

97

u/Err_101 9h ago

That's just a bread dispenser 😁

2

u/ironicmirror 9h ago

Some people pay extra for that...

u/JudgementofParis 9h ago

if youre opening it dont you want the bread out anyway

313

u/jd3marco 8h ago

He’s intimidated by the way the bread loaf flops out like a big dong.

Interestingly, it's from the German Protestant church, advertising for charitable donations for a "feed the world" programme.

u/RapNVideoGames I like country music. 9h ago

This is such a girlfriend response. “Isn’t that what you wanted, babe?” Lol

JudgementofParis is a-DICK-tator’s girlfriend!

31

u/BlanchedBubblegum 9h ago

Then putting the bread back in is annoying for no reason…

-9

u/Fizzel87 8h ago

Maybe for the uncoordinated. We have our breadbox vertical like this and it is not a problem at all.

3

u/BlanchedBubblegum 8h ago

I mean it also means you have to stack bread upwards. And I’d prefer to have less stuff on top of my bread.

3

u/Whole-Philosophy-231 7h ago

Don't most people have multiple types of bread? My bread box has bagels, English muffins, sandwich bread, wraps. Mine has a shelf which is nice so I can easily access each individual item without taking them all out.

3

u/tilda432 4h ago

I think most people don't own a breadbox. I can't think of anyone I know who has a breadbox.

1

u/Whole-Philosophy-231 2h ago

I don't know what that has to do with my comment lol. I don't think most do, but if you do you likely have more than 1 type of bread to tumble out

1

u/tilda432 2h ago

You just said most people have multiple types of bread in their breadbox. I don't know anyone who has one to even say if that's true. They seem uncommon but it could be where I'm at and maybe it's more popular in certain regions.

1

u/Whole-Philosophy-231 2h ago

No I said people tend to have multiple types of bread lol. So if you DO use a bread box, them falling out isn't likely to be what you want falling, but everything.

47

u/Talk-O-Boy 9h ago

That is… so stupid. How are some of you like this?

196

u/MyOwnRobot 8h ago

I've jacked my fridge up in the back enough so that when I open the doors, all the food slides out and crashes onto my feet, it's very convenient

30

u/thisoneagain 8h ago

I laughed very hard at this.

5

u/valentinegnorbu 7h ago

Omg I haven't laughed this hard in a while🤣

6

u/Fine_Payment13 7h ago

That’s caught me off guard I’ve been laughing for about 5 mins, every time I stop I picture it and start again 😂😂

11

u/Diddly_eyed_Dipshite 7h ago

Oh great, there's the mustard... now I need fresh socks

2

u/JadeMonkey0 7h ago

But on the bright side, some of it spilled on the bread on the floor so I'm almost halfway to a sandwich!

1

u/Slipstream_Surfing 3h ago

Reminds me of the occasional adjustments I'm forced to make just to get it so the doors don't slowly swing fully open or even worse back to rest on my hips and butt.

Don't know why they get out of adjustment so often. Is like they levitate magnetically on the hinges and the slightest breeze sets them in motion.

3

u/Justhe3guy 7h ago

If you have to ask why anyone is the way they are on reddit it’s because there’s no barrier to entry

Just a deluge of humans

And a bigger deluge of bots.

1

u/Laleaky 6h ago

No counter space makes people do crazy things.

-11

u/hughperman 9h ago

I know, l lay out each of my bread slices individually over my countertop and keep them in a vacuum pack bag each for maximum efficiency and freshness. Sideways breadbox 🫪

2

u/Artwastelander 8h ago

Need to ensure the bread is unharmed before I eat it. It might bruise like fruit. Let's not even talk about the potential crumb situations. My God.

1

u/Disastrous_Good9236 7h ago

maybe once in a while he likes to admire it

1

u/wytewydow 5h ago

fuckin' self dispensing bread box. epic.

-2

u/Dirtylicious33 8h ago

I would give you an award if i had any to give 👌🏼

10

u/SolScorpii 8h ago

Add a hook at the top in the inside and hang the bread bag from it

14

u/firewarrior256 9h ago

OP has a name like that and his bread just FLOPS OUT.

4

u/ImNotHandyImHandsome 9h ago

That's why his GF laid the box on the side.

1

u/boarhowl 8h ago

She likes it when it flops out

18

u/HorseXNothing 9h ago

That is really annoying and would bother me to no end. Also, phrasing?

2

u/Burnie_9 6h ago

Turn the bread around so it leans back?

2

u/hidyhidyhidyhi 6h ago

Stick a little hook in there. Hang the bread bag like bananas

1

u/Charming_Garbage_161 8h ago

lol that is not a problem in my eyes unless you’ve got a hoard of bread in there

1

u/GamerTex 9h ago

Gotta learn to lean

2

u/Sally3Sunshine3 9h ago

Sounds convenient

2

u/scientooligist 8h ago

Just buy less floppy bread. Like a nice loaf of sourdough

1

u/im_just_thinking 8h ago

I bet both points, but to me that area either needs to be all used as one surface/prep area, or it all needs to be for appliances/big stationary items. Not both at once.

1

u/ragingduck 7h ago

You can pretend the Bread Gnome is just doing his job.

1

u/avonacca 6h ago

You can use the top as a little shelf now too.

1

u/OriginalMexican 6h ago

Mate this is needless argument. Mount a shelf 8" from the upper cabinet, slide the bread box there and be done with it. As is, if you are occupying countertop this is clearly more efficient -
But again both are inefficient compared to a SHELF. mount it instead of complaining about you GF

1

u/rcw00 5h ago

but it leaves space for the whiskey to have its own dedicated spot

1

u/brigandbreton 5h ago

Instragram effect.

Woooow on the picture.

No one thinks of the real usuability

1

u/xfreddy- 5h ago

😂😂😂

1

u/Pattern_Is_Movement 3h ago

So bread comes out of the bread holder, and you're unhappy about this?

1

u/NewSchoolFool 3h ago

Learn to adapt

1

u/F133TWOOD 9h ago

Seems to be a big issue with the bread box than anything.

Small kitchen counter and breadbox is taking up too much footprint. Also as the door roller is opened means, you have to be careful not to put anything on top that could interfere with the door.

I would get a different bread box that uses less footprint and maybe has another top layer. Also squared shaped (none of this roller function) so things can be placed on top.

94

u/lowrankcock 9h ago

Girlfriend has entered the chat.

11

u/MondoDuke2877 9h ago

I've tried this and gravity can help smash the bread into misshapen pieces that make for a deformed sandwich.

35

u/influx3k 9h ago

Who stores their bread vertically?!

20

u/TheHungryBlanket 9h ago

I am old enough to have bagged groceries into paper bags. Bread does not work vertically very well unless it’s tight, otherwise it just mushes in the middle and flops over.

17

u/NotGalenNorAnsel 9h ago

Also it compresses the bread

10

u/TheDungeonCrawler 9h ago

I think that's what they mean by "mushes".

4

u/NotGalenNorAnsel 9h ago

I took it more as it will crush a piece in the middle which causes it to bend over, I was saying if you successfully keep it vertical, the pieces at the bottom will get compacted into dense thinner pieces.

1

u/deviantelf 4h ago

Not disagreeing with the vertically part.

But what does paper bags have to do with it? I know they aren't as popular but you can still have your groceries bagged in paper bags at least in the US. Even so wouldn't you just put the bread on top of other stuff horizontally just like in a plastic bag? With less squish than plastic even as sometimes it gets squished in plastic just from carrying.

1

u/TheHungryBlanket 4h ago

That’s where my brain went because that’s the only time I would ever bag bread vertically. When you had four loaves of bread, they would fit very well in a paper bag.

But putting them in the bag you basically had to do all four of them at the same time or they would flop over and get wrecked in the middle.

2

u/deviantelf 3h ago

Oh yea, agreed. vertically only makes sense when you're down to only like 6 or less slices.

-5

u/verzweifeltundmuede 9h ago

Yeah but this is taken in Europe where the bread is a lot denser and probably contains seeds, wholegrains and isn't presliced. You can store bread like that in any direction.

1

u/fattmarrell 9h ago

You're all looking at this wrong. GF has a cabinet problem

1

u/bigfndan 7h ago

I do but its in a Tupperware container so it doesn't flop or get mushed.

9

u/00Canuck 9h ago

If you had multiple bread items, and had it laid out properly, then you wouldn't need to unstack bread items off of other bread items just to use them. The current layout forces you to either stack, or use less of the available compartment.

19

u/HonkHonkBeach 9h ago

Lid doesn’t stay shut

8

u/scramblebambles 9h ago

It’s not gonna fall open to the right.

3

u/lakewood2020 9h ago

Yea it would shut

36

u/Josefu_Velen 9h ago edited 9h ago

It absolutely can stay shut. It's partly open in this pic because whoever closed it last didn't bother to make sure they did so all the way and have something in the way.

25

u/WhammyShimmyShammy 9h ago

Just in case you'd appreciate knowing: 'whomever' should be used if the answer is 'him', 'her', 'them', etc. In this case, we wouldn't say "him closed it" but "he closed it", so the correct form is "because whoever closed it last..."

'Whomever' would be correct in this example: "Whomever this umbrella belongs to, they have good taste" because "the umbrella belongs to him "

5

u/MeasurementDouble324 9h ago

I legitimately appreciate this random little lesson. I always thought “whomever” was just how posh people said, “whoever” 😬 whether I’ll remember to use it in conversation is another matter but at least now I’ll know if I’m speaking poorly 😂

2

u/T-Wrox 8h ago

Thenk yew. :)

2

u/GustavDitters 9h ago

What if the answer is “he owns the umbrella”

1

u/JoIsaza 2h ago

“owns” and “belongs to” work the opposite way around from each other:
“He owns the umbrella.”
“The umbrella belongs to him.”

So:
“Whoever owns this umbrella has good taste.”
“Whomever this umbrella belongs to has good taste.”

0

u/aggressive_napkin_ 9h ago

"him this umbrella belongs to" still doesn't work

/s

5

u/emcgrew 9h ago

I think it's "himever this whombrella belongs to"

2

u/T-Wrox 8h ago

Now you're getting it!

14

u/ekso69 9h ago

Whomstd've

3

u/eppinizer 9h ago

Agreed, that its possible, but I bet depending on the bread you have it could be a pain to deal with. If you just have a single loaf you could push it into the corner and it probably wouldn't fall over, but if you have bagles, or rolls, anything that isn't flat when vertically oriented it's going to slip and either pop out on its own when you open it, or slip to the door before you close it.

I like the idea and it looks nice like that, but I can imagine that becoming a bit annoying at times.

8

u/RadioMessageFromHQ 9h ago

> depending on the bread you have it could be a pain

Heh.

1

u/sambones718 3h ago

bilingual puns always bring me joy

-2

u/HonkHonkBeach 9h ago

Depends on the strength of the door mechanism imo

4

u/lliKoTesneciL 9h ago

Neither does the boyfriends if he's here complaining...

4

u/Rube18 9h ago

You think it can’t stay shut on its side, but if it were to close vertically it would?

Of course it can shut on its side.

-5

u/HonkHonkBeach 9h ago

Do you know how gravity works?

13

u/FecalDUI 9h ago

Not a gravity assisted door. It’s a shutter without enough mass for gravity to pull against the friction of the rails.

1

u/HonkHonkBeach 9h ago

That’s the first fair point I’ve seen all day.

1

u/FecalDUI 9h ago

In 4 minutes flat!

9

u/EdKeane 9h ago

Do you? There is no difference between the two sides in this case.

1

u/JustAnotherElsen 9h ago

Are you like this always or is this an off day for you

0

u/HonkHonkBeach 9h ago

Am I always someone who owns a breadbox and has dealt with its idiosyncrasies? Yes, at least for the past few years

0

u/JustAnotherElsen 9h ago

How would it not shut if it’s on its side, they run though tracks, they’re not so heavy that down on it’s bottom is keeping it like, sealed shut? Not to mention brand by brand they’re all kinda different, but like…. It’s a sliding door?? Those work horizontally……. They’re called. Doors?

6

u/no-sleep-only-code 9h ago

Obviously, any bread in there will crush itself over its own weight. You don’t store bread vertically.

8

u/cartken 9h ago

I do store bread vertically a d it has no effect on the shape of the bread. I put mine in the fridge but do whatever makes the bead last longer

4

u/Taylor_Kittenface 9h ago

Yeah, who isn't storing their opened loaf vertically? You wrap the end around in a knot and plonk it on that end to stop the air getting in and making it stale.

2

u/cartken 9h ago

Yes, cause I usually lose the bread tie

1

u/Taylor_Kittenface 9h ago

My cats usually start using it as a football. And a lot of our loafs here in the UK come wrapped in paper, you gotta get that folding over thing perfected early lol.

1

u/ratafia4444 9h ago

Are you eating bread or bricks that yours gets crushed? 😂

3

u/no-sleep-only-code 9h ago

I could literally ask you the same as to why it doesn’t get crushed.

1

u/ratafia4444 8h ago

Bc the bread I buy has a pretty solid crust most of the time? It's not so heavy either. Even if I have to stack something more fragile, just put it on top. 🤨

1

u/no-sleep-only-code 6h ago

So it is bricks, which tbh is the better bread anyway

0

u/SolScorpii 8h ago

Because bread.

Paper can't beat paper, dog

1

u/Dedune9 9h ago

Think of the crumbs... 🤣

1

u/fimbiod 8h ago

If they put things on the top (the right way,), it actually saves space

1

u/RuffLuckGames 7h ago

That bigger footprint is the usable space. This cuts that space to less than a third. If she wants a smaller foot print on the counter, she needs to get a smaller box one one designed this way wirh shelves inside to have space to use it.

It may sound frivolous to replace a functional piece, but if they can't both be happy with that part of their kitchen, it's no good. Your kitchen should be functional and feel good. Do what you need to for that.

1

u/Linenoise77 1h ago

The weight from the bread at the top is going to compress the bread at the bottom, affecting its texture and mouthfeel.

1

u/onarainyafternoon 9h ago

1

u/SilverNeptuneAbyss 8h ago

Yes a sub for crazy people complaining about stuff that isn't infuriating in any way shape or form

-12

u/notsoFunNegotiation 9h ago edited 9h ago

It’s still the same size so how does it take up less space? Also, it’s different because your bread’s gonna get fucking smashed now.

12

u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 9h ago

It’s called the footprint. It has a smaller footprint on its side.

4

u/Stang70Fastback 9h ago

Is this a serious question?

1

u/notsoFunNegotiation 9h ago

Tell me how the bread box has gotten any smaller then? It hasn’t. It’s not taking a less space. It’s just positioned differently.

6

u/Lou_Peachum_2 9h ago

Bro…

3

u/Round-Claim5420 9h ago

these people are allowed to vote btw

1

u/Lou_Peachum_2 7h ago

That’s what’s scary; even worse is they’re doubling down…

0

u/notsoFunNegotiation 9h ago

Well it’s the truth. The size of the bread box hasn’t changed. It’s just positioned differently. It’s still taken up the same amount of square inches. It’s called math bro.
