Help - car blocking our driveway / garage and police / council won't do anything

Hey guys a car parked over our driveway and we can't get our car in / out. It's been there since yesterday morning. The police said it not a police matter. They said ring the council after hours.

Council said they would put a job out to the rangers and to call back in a few hours if it wasn't taken care of.

So a few hours later we called back since The car is still there. Now council days you need to log it online on the council website which obviously won't be attended to until 3 to 5 business weeks.

What are my legal options here?

Lots of bicycles on Honeysuckle

Hey anybody see a huge crowd of bicycles going down Honeysuckle last night? They had lots of lights/ a DJ cart going

Is it a regular thing/ are they like an organised group?

Looked pretty epic!

Newcastle Farmers Markets

Hi. I’m going to the markets tomorrow and it’s been a while since my last visit.
For those who have been there recently, what are your favourite purchases?
I love the apples and flowers. I used to love getting a falafel wrap but the vendors weren’t there last time…

Found photos in suitcase near bush, what to do with them?

• Upvotes

The other weekend I was out riding in the bush at Sugarloaf and came across a mostly empty suitcase, and near by a burned out Ute. There wasn’t much there but there were some photos in frames. Weathered but intact. I grabbed them and brought them home thinking the owner might like them back.

Question is how do I find out who they belong to? Surely with the internet there must be a way?

Best Cinema Seating? Which Movie Theatre company has the best most comfortable seats?

Hello Newcastle mates,

Was wondering what Cinema (location or brand specific) has the best most comfy cinema seats?

And

Out of Event Cinemas, Reading Cinemas or Hoyts Cinemas whose got the nicest ones in Australia?

I ask cause I will be watching some rather long films and will be having friends along. Some of which are disabled and find hard uncomfortable seats unbearable.

I've also been to Tower Cinemas since its reopened, I do applaud the film selections they have and hope they continue to succeed because of the variety they bring but the seats are not the cinema seats you'd expect.

Any sort of experience within Newcastle area and outside who can give some feedback on which theatres have the nicest seating and atmosphere would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks!

Good icecream in Newcastle?

So far I’ve tried Ballilore Farms, Monella Gelato, Jim’s dairy. They’re all overly sweet. The flavors are always sugar forward.

My only options at this point are supermarket brands.

Are there any housemade icecream brands that are not so sickly sweet?

Coming from someone that actually has a sweet tooth 😭

Single parent finding work

Hi all I’ll keep it as short as possible, so I’m male with 2 kids 3&6 in the last year I’ve had to leave my job and taken on full care of my 2 kids (I love having them full time) I was employed 10+ years with the company but couldn’t commit as I did a fair amount of travelling. I’ve now been unemployed for 6ish months I managed for 6 months but become to stressful with my kids having extra needs. I’ve just joined a parent program to help me get back into work I’ve always worked in construction but having school commitments and the younger one only 2 days a week daycare I’m really struggling to work out what line of work fit the school drop offs and pickups 9:10am-3:10pm I’ve thought about support work but am worried I sware like a trooper and half the time don’t even realise I do it. I’m basic with computers I can use it but far from ever being a guru. I’ve thought of getting a lawn mower and edger but wasn’t sure how stable that would be I’d need an abn and insurance. I’ve thought of doing the test and tag electrical course and trying to apply within an electrical company and say these are the days I’m available not sure if it’s a stable work load. I have tickets already forklift, dogman, ewp under 11m, telehandler, confined space, whitecard. But all them require a 7am-5pm availability. I can’t currently afford to send the kids to before and afterschool care or extra days at daycare they have frequent appointments having extra needs. Just after peoples opinions and maybe what you have done to find work being a solo full time parent. Appreciate any feedback. Thanks. (Sorry if it’s hard to read)

Plane aerobatics over Warners Bay area this arvo?

Did anyone else catch the incredible view this afternoon of the plane performing some awesome tricks up the top end of the lake? Only caught snippets pulled over on the side of the road while driving up through Teralba to get to the freeway… anyone with any clue if they are a regular flyer/performer or if it was a special event? Think I was loving it more than the kids 🙄😂

Westlakes Amateur Radio Club's Car Boot Sale this Sunday

Location: 2E York Street, Teralba, NSW
Time: before 10AM to Noon (or maybe 1pm..)

For anyone into electronics, and certainly radios (inc. CB), antennas, etc.

Something to note is QSLCOMMS will be there, and while the transmitting radio equipment will probably get you asked for your callsign, Mark has these neato STM32 dev kits that include a STM32F103 Blue Pill, USB ST/link programmer, breadboard, wires, LEDs and displays, for $22. There's the essential NanoVNAs and tinySAs, too..

Open Letter From The Newcastle Herald To Jets Fans

From the Newcastle Herald website and not paywalled...

An open letter to fans of the Newcastle Jets, from Newcastle Herald editor Lisa Allan and managing editor of sport, Chris Dutton.

Dear Jets fans of Newcastle and the Hunter,

We are writing to let you know that the Newcastle Herald's coverage of the Jets may look a little different in the coming weeks.

We were informed on Friday that the Jets were enforcing a ban on the Herald's long-time chief soccer reporter, James Gardiner, preventing his access to club-sanctioned media briefings.

The Jets said in August they did not want Gardiner to attend Jets media opportunities, following the publication of stories by him and other Herald journalists exposing late payments to several Newcastle businesses, organisations and individuals earlier this year.

The Herald values independent journalism. We report without fear or favour. While the Jets remain a partner of our organisation, we will not allow anyone, partner or otherwise, to dictate what we cover and how we cover it.

As long-time Herald readers know, Gardiner has reported on the A-League since the inaugural season in 2005-06, and has written thousands of stories on Jets teams during his award-winning career in journalism.

We have told the Newcastle Jets that a ban on one Herald reporter is a ban on the Herald.

While the Jets' decision is disappointing, especially coming on the eve of the A-League Men's and Women's seasons, and will pose challenges for how we do our work, the Herald will continue our award-winning coverage of Newcastle's team.

Our top priority has always been, and will always be, keeping our audience and our community informed, and that will continue during this A-League season.

To our loyal readers and advertising partners, thank you for your continuing support of the Newcastle Herald's proudly local and proudly independent journalism.

Lisa Allan, editor, and Chris Dutton, managing editor of sport
