Description

This community is for people who love insects and invertebrates in general and enjoy handling them safely. Here, you can share your finds, discuss, and learn about these amazing creatures!

We welcome all invertebrates! So that includes but is not limited to insects, spiders, arachnids, and arthropods in general like millipedes or snails for example.

Rules:

  1. You must be holding the insect/invertebrate in at least one photo

    • This subreddit is for photos of people holding insects, arachnids, etc, or holding an object they are on, so you must include at least one photo of this in posts.
    • As long as you have the one photo in the post, the rest do not have to follow this. For other posts where you are not holding the creature, try subs like r/entomology, r/whatsthisbug, or r/awwnverts.
    • Note: this rule does not apply to image comments or to posts with the "Discussion / Story / Information Post" flair.
  2. No advocacy of harm or hate to animals

    • Do not promote harm or generally be hateful to our creatures. This includes but is not limited to comments like "flamethrower", "squish it", "nope", "nightmare fuel", etc.
  3. No unsafe handling

    • Do not post content of or promote unsafe handling. This includes the safety of both the animal and the handler.
  4. No dead/preserved inverts

    • Posts showing pinned, mounted, preserved, or otherwise dead creatures are not allowed. This subreddit is intended for people holding live insects, arachnids, and other invertebrates. Please only share interactions with living animals.
  5. No AI generated or fake content

    • Do not post AI generated or otherwise fake or misleading content.
  6. No misinformation

    • Do not post inaccurate information, intentionally or unintentionally, about our creatures. If you are not sure, please do research beforehand.
  7. No spam

    • Excessive promotion, spam, or advertising is not allowed.
  8. Respect others and be civil

    • No harassment, hate speech, or toxic behavior. Treat all contributors and members with kindness.

Safety warning

Before handling an insect, arachnid, etc, it's important to ensure the following:

  • Species is harmless/not medically significant.

  • You have the knowledge to properly handle to prevent harm to both you and the creature.

  • You understand that if the creature seems stressed or uncomfortable, you should stop handling and release them.
