Total armchair psych analysis

I think Chet has something going on with him, maybe something like ADHD where his impulse control is very bad. He was such a troublemaker as a teen that his parents, who had all the money in the world, sent him to one of those teenage work camps. The ones where they “kidnap” your kid in the night, and then make them do labor in the desert. They claim to “straighten out troubled teens” but really it’s just abuse.

The fact that they would do that to him makes me think that Chet was never understood or helped as a kid. There’s no such thing as a “bad” kid imo. Much much more likely, a kid who is really struggling due to some underlying issue they desperately need help with.

Chet didn’t get that help and this is what you end up with.

alternative explanation: he's a little asshole raised in privilege and never had guidance or discipline, and his worst traits were allowed to define his entire personality, and he STILL is protected from real consequences.

It's actually okay to admit that some people are just dicks and assholes. It isn't always that deep. Privilege, money, enabling, lack of guidance or consequences...no surprise that he's a maladjusted leech asshole. It ain't gotta be that deep. Very few people turn out well when they're enabled, spoiled and protected from consequences for their antisocial asshole behavior.

Some people develop a sense of self awarness and find some sort of purpose in life, some don't. I don't think he's misunderstood, damaged, or has an untreated diagnosis. I don't believe that anti social assholes are ALWAYS a "victim". Normalize the idea that asshole behavior is unacceptable and consequences are socially healthy, please. PLEASE GOD. Not everyone is a victim or special snowflake just because they are a maladjusted antisocial menace.
