Staying On-topic

Off-topic posts & comments will be removed. Repeat offenders will be banned.

The goal of this subreddit is to "Share, Compare & Improve Long-Term Investment Portfolio Strategies".

  1. Long-term is at least a decade. Is this money for retirement or some other long-term goals?

  2. If your question or advice is about your portfolio, share your WHOLE portfolio. Your portfolio is all of your assets or at least all of your assets for a particular goal (retirement, for example).

  3. An investment portfolio is composed mostly of investments, not speculative assets. Currencies, commodities, collectibles, & options, for example, are speculative assets.

  4. Show how much you have ($ or %), or plan to have, of each asset in your portfolio. Sorting largest to smallest is helpful.

  5. In a 401k, list all available options EXCEPT A. Don't list every target date fund; just the one for the year closest to your 65th birthday, B. If there's an SDBA, just say so.

  6. Sharing your portfolio in this subreddit means you want feedback about it.

  7. Showing the name of each asset is very helpful. We don't have thousands of tickets symbols memorized. If we don't recognize your ticker symbols, we'll probably move along rather than looking them up.

  8. Bogleheads created & moderated this subreddit. Research & experience show that investors are very likely to get higher returns with less risk & less effort by following the Bogleheads Philosophy than by trying to beat the market. If you don't want feedback based on the Bogleheads Philosophy, don't post in this subreddit.

Literally asking for a friend. Thank you :)

I personally told him that I am surprised on how he acquired the first 100K to dump this way in the first place.

However, he says that these are red during the past 2 weeks only. He has day-traded (and week-traded) these numerous times over the whole year and made greens massively as well.

The current objective of this post is only to know how would this hold if he does not trade anymore and just keeps holding for the next 3 months minimum. :) thanks.

26 years old, just started investing. Looking for advice on my Roth IRA and brokerage portfolio.

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I’m 26 and recently started investing for the long term. I’m still pretty new to this and would appreciate some honest feedback on my portfolio.

Roth IRA — $200/month
FSPGX (Large Cap Growth) — 50%
FSMAX (Extended Market) — 30%
FTIHX (International) — 20%

Brokerage — $100/month
FSKAX (Total US Stock Market) — 50%
FXAIX (S&P 500) — 50%

I’m planning to invest consistently every month and hold for the next 30–40 years. I’m not trying to time the market or do any short-term trading.

I have a few questions:

Does my current allocation make sense for someone my age who is just starting out?

Am I creating too much overlap between my funds, especially FSKAX and FXAIX?

Is my Roth IRA too heavily focused on growth stocks?

Should I simplify my portfolio or keep my current allocations?

Would you change anything about how I’m investing my $300 each month?

My goal is long-term wealth building, and I’m comfortable with market fluctuations.

I’m here to learn, so constructive criticism is welcome. Thanks in advance!

I try to invest in smaller cap companies under 2B where the price disconnects are greater and the sophisticated investors are fewer. I tend to invest in the US and Asia. I've taken an absolute bath on Grandstand formerly GAMB, it's my highest conviction holding by cost basis. Exited smaller positions in UNH, ANF, ADM & half of AMD this year. Got saddled with LNSR after a failed merger arb play went against me, I do think it's undervalued but it's a lower conviction holding.

Note: it is separated the way it is because of brokerage industry compliance reasons. Ask for specifics if you need.
I also understand FSELX lands in uncompensated risk territory. This is not about AI, it’s about the world running on Semis and many companies printing cash, I don’t believe it’s fully priced in for certain companies which are top holdings. (NVDA,AVGO, etc). Still uncompensated on paper but not performance chasing as I have it through thick and thin.
FNSXX is not to time the market, it’s to prevent destructive behavior in case of a correction (below) while generating a yield.
Finally I’ve allocated money as such that the core will take over the account as I age to de-risk from more volatile factor and sector tilts into low cost index funds.

Current Balance: $90k
Future Allocations: $1290 (Monthly)
Strategy: (Sleeves/Factors/Semis)
Horizon: 35 years

Stock/ETF Roth IRA (Monthly)
AVUV 150 (US Small Cap Value, Screens)
AVDV 110 (Int Small Cap Value, Screens)
GARP 90 (Quality Growth, 5% stock cap)
Total: $350

MF Roth IRA (Monthly)
FSMVX - 75 (Mid Cap Value)
FSELX - 75 (Semiconductors)
FXAIX - 75 (S&P 500 Index)
FNSXX - 50 (Cash Reserves)($3k/100k Cap)
Total: $275

Emp. Roth 401k (Monthly)
Sp500 Index 50%
Int. Dev. Index 40%
Em. Mkt. Index 10%
Total: $665
(Current 10%. Auto-Increase 1% annually till 20%.)

——————————————————————————-

35-YEAR WEALTH COMPOUNDING & CORE TAKEOVER PROJECTION

Assumptions: Age 30 starting, $90,000 starting balance, 8.0% expected nominal return, 1% annual salary growth, 1% annual 401(k) increase up to 20% cap, annual bonus sweeps, adaptive IRA and 401k limits.
Age

Current 30 ~50% Core / ~50% Sat. & Factors
Year 5 35 ~58% Core / ~42% Satellites
Year 10 40 ~68% Core / ~32% Satellites

Year 20 50 ~80% Core / ~20% Satellites
Year 25 55 ~85% Core / ~15% Satellites

My Controversial Portfolio 🚀

Post image

This is the current state of my portfolio. Why?
Nobody ever got rich by diversifying.
The more MSTR drops, the more I buy.
I still have cash on the sidelines to keep buying and the conviction to hold through the volatility.
Let’s see what happens. 🚀

Portfolio and Allocations for finances

Hi everyone, I feel pretty good with how I have planned my portfolio and finances but would love a second opinion and look.

I’m 25M and I make 110k a year total compensation, I have 50k sitting in tax advantaged accounts in IDMO SPMO AVUS and AVNM, 10k in taxable with AVUS AVNM and DBMF, 20K liquid cash in SPAXX, 18k in just capital one stock.

My main concerns are whether to keep holding capital one stock and wait for them to convert to long term gains (employee shares) and what you think the future for the company is like, maybe I’m biased but I think there are some tailwinds here.

Second is whether the 20k has a better short term place to sit, I will say I feel fairly good about my family and situation whereby even if I didn’t have a emergency fund my family could cover me for a year / 2 or even more lol. That’s why my allocations in my taxable include DBMF because I want to use that as “almost” a emergency fund. With inflation and taxes I feel like SPAXX does not even hold purchasing power. Is that dumb? Part of this 20k is to also immediately max out my Roth and HSA next year.

I understand I’m in an extremely privileged position but would love a second pair of eyes to see if there are any holdings or anything you would change or even if there is anything I could take advantage of, I am extremely frugal, out of my take home I already max out 401k contributions yearly as well.

Portfolio Advice (M24)

I’m 24, non-US (0% tax country),
Net worth is $60,000, broken down as follows:

  • $35,000 in cash, 0% yield...
  • $16,000 in ETFs
  • $9,000 in fixed-term investments (yield 12% yearly)
  • No loans or other debt

My current portfolio is:

Fund Allocation Expense ratio
VTI - Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF 60% 0.03%
VXUS - Vanguard Total International Stock ETF 35% 0.05%
AVUV - Avantis U.S. Small Cap Value ETF 2.5% 0.25%
AVDV - Avantis International Small Cap Value ETF 2.5% 0.36%

Portfolio value: approximately $16,000

Overall, that’s roughly:

  • 64% US / 36% international

How would you rate this allocation? If you were in my shoes, would you keep it as is or change anything? I don’t currently own individual stocks, should I allocate some, or keep everything in ETFs?
