Activity Giving Reddit awards to any redditor who got a snarky response

Reddit can be a hive mind of villainy sometimes.

My account has free awards for some reason. So I give them out liberally, but especially to anyone who wrote a comment in good faith but got dragged down in the responses.

It’s my way of fighting back against the constant negativity.

———-

Edit: I’m thrilled at all the positive feedback on this. Im doubling my efforts and handing out hearts in all the communities I can find. Thanks for the suggestions!

This sub is to share and enjoy actions which bring more peace and kindness into the world. Our mission is to encourage as many people as possible to do kind things for others in their day to day life.

If this post is not doing that please report it. If its your post please save mods time, and yourself a ban by removing it.

Requesting something (usually money) is not what this sub is for (you are looking for r/assistance). OP please delete your post if it is. If not OP please help mods and push the report button if this post is related to giving or receiving money.

Thank you and be excellent to each other. u/roamingandy

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I have a suggestion, maybe go to a subreddit where people speak about their experiences with depression or chronic illness, these hearts will do them a lot of good!!

u/cabeachgal Jun 12 '26

I have free awards too. Great suggestion!

Thank you for the award and for spreading positivity!!

How do you know you have free rewards? And do people who don’t have free rewards actually pay $ to give awards to people? I don’t know how that all works. Help me. Im old.

They are next to the reply, three dots and vote button and look like a ribbon.

u/MerryFeathers Jun 12 '26

How do you get the free rewards?

7

u/LotusGrowsFromMud Jun 12 '26

They seem to come off and on randomly.

How do you find out if you have free awards or not?

u/tink0608 Jun 12 '26

This is an awesome idea!!

Yeah, any little bit of cheer helps when you've got chronic illness.

(I sadly had to leave a chronically ill sub that was helping me cope due to not being compatible with the mods there).

Sorry you had to leave, hope this sub is giving you some joy. Yes, I am in healthcare, and realized so many people who are bedridden find it hard to connect with others, and sometimes reddit is a platform that they enjoy, with certain communities. Having specific groups to relate to is so important! And the rest of us can be supportive too!

2

u/ForestCathedral Jun 25 '26

You betcha it’s isolating. And thanks for making a difference being in healthcare. Little things really do lift our hearts.

Suicide watch is a good one they are clearly one foot out the door and need some hugs.

u/ZsSquish Jun 14 '26

Where do you find awards you have?

2

u/Best-Dimension4144 Jun 14 '26

usually I press award on someone else's comment, and if you have a free reward there is a clear option to gift one! I don't have unlimited free awards, but they pop up every now and then.

2

u/ZsSquish Jun 15 '26

Thank you very much.

2

u/Best-Dimension4144 Jun 15 '26

you are welcome!

"I don't need an award." /still shows up dressed all fancy

I also don't need an award. My imaginary bowler hat is enough.

18

u/HoleInWon929 Jun 12 '26

You get one anyway!

11

u/SomeonePickAHealer Jun 12 '26

Hahahahaha, you fool!

9

u/cabeachgal Jun 12 '26

I give you a free award for being so generous with your free awards!

10

u/HoleInWon929 Jun 12 '26

Awww! I think I started something good!

u/elHodgetts Jun 12 '26

What an odd phenomenon, to take the time to be awful and hurtful. I rarely post and was surprised how hurt I felt by one snarky reply to a comment. It made me realise how terrible it must be for young people who spend so much time on social media.
I don’t need an award. I think it’s lovely that you’re wanting to shift the balance.

Exactly, especially for snarky responses when I felt the original comment was genuine.

Have an award!

I got a snarky comment when I was just trying to find help for my kid who just got diagnosed with a disease id never heard of. I got so upset I deleted my comment and never went back to the subreddit!

6

u/HoleInWon929 Jun 12 '26

I’m so sorry you had to deal with that!

5

u/RavennaCorvus Jun 12 '26

Thanks for the support! And thanks for the award! People can be so mean, I just don't understand. :'(

4

u/RavennaCorvus Jun 12 '26

Thank you for the award anonymous redditor! Us nice people need to stick together!

2

u/Bludiamond56 Jun 14 '26

They're not happy in their own lives so they lash out. Send them good wishes in your mind they certainly don't need more negativity. By wishing them good it lessens their own negative opinions about themselves. Doing the opposite just makes them more angry with life

1

u/RavennaCorvus Jun 14 '26

That's a great point.

15

u/crazyplantlady007 Jun 12 '26

I am a smart ass in a sarcastic way but I am never mean to anyone. I use my talent to fight mean people and will actually argue with them (not in a mean way but with facts and sarcasm) and try to prove them wrong. But they never think they are wrong.

Keep fighting the good fight my dude!!! 🫶🏻

u/HoleInWon929 Jun 12 '26

Same here, I've been schooled a few times here on Reddit where a comment I thought was sarcastic and funny did not land.

There's nothing worse than logging on in the morning to a bunch of hateful comments, especially when I was the one causing harm.

So now I try to spread positive comments, and this post in particular has already made my day a good start.

14

u/Ifinallyhave Jun 12 '26

Haha idk I just got 100 downvotes bc I didn't get a joke

I spent ages designing myself a T-shirt with AI prompts as I can’t draw for toffee. Adjusting the style and bits of the design until it matched the vision in my head.

Got it printed and it looked amazing so I posted a photo of it to a sub for the type of animal featured. I spotted that the sub doesn’t allow AI posts, but the T-shirt is a real physical object so I thought it would be ok.

Woke up the next morning excited to see what my fellow animal lovers thought. The mod commented that it was slop, garbage and that I was a scammer bot. They didn’t just remove my post but banned me from the sub and ignored the message I sent them after apologising if I had broken the sub rules.

Now every time I see a lovely post about my favourite animal I can’t join in with the comments. Such a shame as they are a lovely bunch of people otherwise.

5

u/HoleInWon929 Jun 12 '26

I’m sorry about your experience. Here’s an award

1

u/jcnlb North America Jun 13 '26

What is your favorite animal?

2

u/Aggravating-Mousse46 Jun 13 '26

Crow

1

u/jcnlb North America Jun 13 '26

Aww I love crows. They are fascinating and so smart. Have any of them befriended you and brought you trinkets?

3

u/Mondschatten78 Jun 12 '26

I've asked a question for clarification of a then-current patch note in a gaming sub and got downvoted like mad. No replies, just downvotes.

3

u/Fluffy_Frog Jun 12 '26

How can I magically get free awards? I want to randomly gift people. 😍

2

u/jcnlb North America Jun 13 '26

The little ribbon (circle with two legs below it) icon next the the reply or forward or vote up / down arrows. That ribbon icon is the award button. When they are available for free you will see them there. (Where you would reply to me or comment.)

3

u/blue_as_a_tuesday Jun 12 '26

Maybe look at some of the communities like “compliment /encourage me” or even r/mildlyinfuriating since those people aren’t having a great day! Or there are subreddits for people dealing with different mental disorders or financial issues who I’m sure would appreciate it

3

u/worththinking Jun 12 '26

you are a scholar and a gentleman (or lady). Well done

2

u/Soft-University-4382 Jun 12 '26

How did you get free awards? This is such a nice thing to do.

2

Thanks, I'll check it out.

2

u/No-Party8261 Jun 13 '26

Its really hard to be snarky when you're trying to be 😆

2

u/DumpedDalish Jun 14 '26

This is such a kind thing to do. It's funny -- I used to care about getting down votes (I'm a people pleaser), but now I'd rather just be myself.

And with this in mind, I also try to be as liberal as I can be with the upvotes and free awards too. Especially on posts or comments that I can tell are meaningful to the person.

1

u/gertchie Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

I love your positivity! It’s because of your post that I found out I have awards, please accept one for being so kind!
Edit to add I have no free awards after all, just a Reddit dummy here.

2

u/HoleInWon929 Jun 14 '26

Positivity all around!

1

u/gertchie Jun 14 '26

Thank you so much for the award! I’ll be on the lookout for free ones I can share too.
