With Orianna, I turned Resplendent Rostrum into a unit. When I move Resplendent Rostrum to a battlefield, it automatically becomes exhausted. Does Resplendent Rostrum’s passive ability trigger ?

Question Question Regarding Event Sequence of Riven/Leona/Ki Burst

Thumbnail

Leona player here, trying to understand the order in which events resolve related to the new Ki Burst and Riven cards from Radiance.

If I use Ki Burst by paying the 1 and tapping the Riven, does the Ki Burst Stun or the "choose one" effect from Riven occur first? Aka does the events associated with the "cost" of the spell need to resolve before the events associated with the "action".

Reason I ask is, if I'm able to complete the events assocated with the spell first, I could:

  1. Have an unbuffed Riven
  2. Use Ki Burst, tapping riven
  3. Have Ki Burst stun a unit
  4. The stun applies a buff to Riven (due to Leona Legend)
  5. Riven uses that buff to spend a buff to stun
  6. Riven gets rebuffed off her stun.

Game state ends with 2 stunned enemy units & Buffed Riven

Ultimately, still going to be running these in Leona bc they're still really good in her. Just wanted to clarify how this specific interaction worked.

EDIT: Looks like the simple answer is no, Riven's stuff happens first and therefore needs a buff already to be able to stun twice with the single Ki Burst. Thanks everyone for the input!

Question How to maintain mental energy for long tournaments?

Hey Everyone,

There is a 128 player tournament close to me next weekend that I decided to register for. To date the most I have ever done even for skirmishes is 3 rounds of Swiss for a single event. Even these I find can be quite mentally draining when I am really trying to win.

The format for this tournament will be 7 rounds of Swiss into top cut for top 8. My goal is to try to top 32 which I think is going roughly 5-2, probably a long shot for me but I think it's a fun place to aim for as it's where prizing will start. My question is what can I do to prevent mental fatigue and the headache that can come with it (I do try to bring a bottle of water whenever I go to an event) as this is a much longer and more competitive tournament than anything I have ever done. Regardless of my results I want to be able to play the full 7 rounds for the experience.

As a bonus, what should I do to prepare or what should I bring beyond what I would normally bring to a NN or skirmish?

Discussion Sneaky Sneaky Deckhand Turn 1?

Is it just me or we got back Sneaky Deckhand turn 1 with Hunter's Circle and nobody is talking about it. Hunter's Circle already feels like a must for the deck, why is nobody using this combo?

Question Focus/Priority During Combat when playing Hidden units onto a battlefield

There was a game I played that stuck with me, and I wasn't sure if I missed my chances to win or not.

I was playing Zed, and swung into the battlefield controlled by my opponent. My Zed w/o Sound vs Black Rose Dignitary and a Hidden Card. I passed focus during the showdown, and my opponent played a hidden Disciple of Shen during their focus.

I believed that because my opponent played a unit during the showdown and passed focus that I should be able to have focus and play a Wind and Ghosts to conquer the battlefield.

But my opponent was ruling that the Disciple doesn't start a chain(cause no triggers) and so I don't gain focus back.
But I'm pretty sure he's wrong because then he's the only one able to take actions during combat and I don't get to play any combat tricks afterwards.

Results I wanted: Regain focus and play my action spell to conq the battlfield after assigning damage.

Results that happened(?): No regaining focus, and immediately moved to assigning damage after the disciple of shen is played and opponent takes no further actions during their focus.

Deck Showcase Set 5: Ekko Bounce

Post image
11 Upvotes

This is how id personally look to play Ekko once the set releases as it both takes advantage of the speed Ekko can push with his empower ability (discounts on explosive turns is always nice) but also allows us to play around the end of turn death with bounce spells of 'flicker' effects allowing us to reset their death effect and reuse their ETB all at once.

Discussion Potentially interested new player

I’ve been on the fence about trying Riftbound. was curious on release but was immediately turned off by lack of product availability, insane deck prices, etc. Felt like Bandai all over again. Anyways now it seems stuff is much more readily available and the singles prices have become more reasonable.

I have a few questions that hopefully yall can answer for me.

1.) Is nexus nights just like a regular locals in other games? can it be expected to show up as a new player and learn to play? or is the expectation that I have my own deck and know how to pilot it already?

2.) is there any starter product that’s actually good? I’m no stranger to starter products in most tcgs being something that is meant to teach you how to play but doesn’t actually resemble anything close to a legit starting point for upgrading as a deck. what are riftbounds options like? or is it just a buy singles game?

3.) any recommended champions for a new player? or is the gap in skill floor relatively close to each other and I should just pick whoever I like?

4.) also any general tips or insights you would give a potential new player. my background is in pokemon but have played a lot of Bandai games and dabbled in mtg before as well. so any advice you can give drawing any parallels to things in those games is appreciate!

thanks in advance

Question Does switcheroo negate attack triggers?

So I move in with Graves. Temmo uses switcheroo to switch might from 4 to 2. I was told that my attack trigger no longer is in play afterwards. Is this true? I only asked because I not sure how switcheroo changes the card effect when it states it changes might only.

Discussion Time Warp/Rebel Kai'Sa Interaction

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

Call me crazy for how this reads but...

Using Time Warp on another person's turn (thanks to Kai'Sa) reads like it would do absolutely nothing. The player is already taking a turn after this one.

Like I'm sure the intended interaction is that the user gets a bonus turn/extra turn, but the card text doesn't read that way at first glance.

I've tried looking up rulings regarding turn order/sequence but I've ran into absolutely nothing. Likely a case of poor wording in card (or maybe it is intended to only work if you cast it on your own turn...)

Deck Showcase My 4 - 0 prerift deck

Post image
10 Upvotes

Yesterday I played my second prerift of the set and went 4-0.

MVPs of the list:

-Wrath of the Freljord. It enters ready as a 7might attacker, and 10 on defense is really strong in this format.

-The action-speed stun + buff. It's insane when nobody has counterspells. Really strong on defense: it buys you time with small units while you wait for your bigger drops.

-Jarvan, Royal heir as chosen champion. I think I always used his ability effect and attack with another 3 or higher might unit.

The deck is really simple: take every point you can while you wait for the big pig to swing in ready, or set up a Jarvan attack. I would intentionally not play cards with power cost to get to 9runes, especially if wrath of the freljord was already In my hand. In this format people hold a lot with few combat tricks, so big numbers win easily. In at least 2 games, on my last turn I had 17 might that my opponent had to beat or loose the game.

At my first prerift I played a very similar deck: 2 Wrath of the Freljord, 1 Jarvan. But I had close to 0 combat tricks, 0 hold'em, 0 stuns. My only way to get extra might was the yellow quickdraw shield that gives tank +1might, and I still went 3-1. These big units carry.

Question What Makes Azir Tricky to learn/master?

New Player who just did my first pre-rift yesterday, after going 2-2 and getting an offer of free bulk for Azir plus 3 copies of Arise in person, I decided to build him since he's budget, Egypt theme, and seems simple to understand as a new player. However, a lot of what I've read seems to indicate that he's actually a harder deck to play/master.

From what I've looked at, the deck is all about putting out cheap gear, playing a sand guard, and holding interaction in hand for showdowns. Now, I can already see some complexity in regards to knowing 'when' to play interaction and hold back for later, how to time your soldiers to most effectively conquer, etc. I also know the deck has a weakness with draw power, but the deck itself seems really simple to grasp as a newcomer. Is there something I'm missing?

I would really appreciate any advice or insight on what makes Azir so difficult, and if there's a website I can do some goldfishing with (Ala Archidekt or Mox for Magic.) to try and get to grips with the deck. Really enjoyed my time with Riftbound, looking forward to learning more of it as the future moves forward!

Question New player: How has your experience been?

Hey everyone, going to pick up proving grounds and play with 3 friends to enter the hobby. Had a few questions about your experience (I currently play Star Wars Unlimited).

  1. How has your experience been acquiring product, and what process is most efficient for deck building? Do you buy boxes? Singles? (do you buy on tcgplayer?) Can you find boxes at LGS' reliably? Target?

  2. How have your experiences with the community been? Were they willing to teach/welcome new players? Is it more competitive, and you should be prepared for such?

  3. Meta wise, how diverse are the decklists? In my current game, there are 3 decks that are effectively rock-paper-scissors, and other decks are heavily underrepresented.

I appreciate all your insight in advance, thanks!

Question Accessories for pre rift

Hello, I am a very new player of Riftbound. I played few games on TCG Arena and watched some videos about it.

Now, I just registered for a pre rift event tomorrow. This would be my first IRL event. I'm worried I have no accessories to play with (playmat, sleeves, dice, etc...). Would that be an issue ?

Question Advise Graves -

I want to ask a question about graves i came across in pre-rift. Opponent has graves on battlefield meaning if i attack in his ability will trigger. The issue i found was it had 2x Nazuman Ntofo attached meaning it got sheild 2 from each gear equiped. How does that interaction work.

1) Graves trigger and deals 4 to all units

OR

2) Sheild applies making him 8 might dealing 8 might to all units?

at what stage does sheild apply?

Discussion Zhonyas

• Upvotes

This isn’t rage bait or anything I just want to hear everyone’s opinion on this card and if there’s any counterplay to it. Zhonyas feels way too good for what it does. I honestly don’t know the counterplay once it’s hidden. I can’t play any gear removal and if I try to invest a lot to kill a unit (mainly astral heron) with a hidden Zhonyas it doesn’t matter at all and they run me over next turn because invested so much on my turn.

Question Ekko Legend Mordekaiser Champion

If I use Ekko's ability to play Mordekaiser for cheaper, and then let him die to Ekko's effect while also using Mordekaiser's ability to sacrifice a unit to recall him

Do I have to sacrifice a unit every turn?

Both mine and opponent's?

Just mine?

Or not at all after the initial?

Question First pre-rift

I’m going to be going to my first pre-rift as a complete beginner

I know there’s resources available but was wondering if there were any specific guides or videos you guys used to learn the game!

Is there anything I should be bringing to pre rift other than ID/money?

Thanks!
