Is this the best you've got?
Hi I'm not new to Reddit, but today I looked at it from a different angle while doomscrolling. And I couldn't help but think "Man, is this the best you've got?". It takes ages to find good content, and even if I find something remotely interesting, it's just bland and boring. Maybe it's just me getting older but seriously, what is up with this enshitification?

And now you're part of that!
How happy would you be to encounter your post if you hadn't written it yourself? Would you consider it helpful or interesting? You just complained how bad it is and made it worse.
It's the circle of mediocrity. Welcome aboard.

Yeah u/spez really fucked it up. There used to be a old.reddit, which still had r/all. If you go to r/all on the re-design it'll just show you your feed, which is the worst of algorithm driven bullshit. Worse than YouTube and Facebook. Reddit kinda destroyed the sense of community on the internet by killing small BBS style communities by offering all in one place, but that was simply its nature. It offered everything and r/all truly used to be the frontpage of the internet. No matter where someone posted anything on Reddit, if it became popular enough, it would hit r/all and be there for the whole world to see. It mostly was news, memes and cats, if we are honest, but it was a much more colorful tapestry that had its moments of brilliance and gave small voices a big platform if it was interesting enough. They completely killed it. Since u/spez took over it just gotten worse and worse. You could entirely opt out of the re-design for a long time and I felt like this was some kind of gentlemen's agreement, but turns out they HEAVILY went after people who used old.reddit. I kept having issues despite not having done anything wrong. Eventually I stopped opting out of re-design, stopped using old.reddit and the issues went away.
What you note here is Reddit fairly poorly trying to guess what would be appropriate content for you, trying to be like other social media sites, but that's never what it was intended to be. They used to call it the "frontpage of the internet" and they completely forgotten it, now it's more like "another social media feed, just worse".
Aaaaanyhow. I can't access some of my old favorite subs anymore, like r/trees because they now want an age verification. I'll rather die than give Reddit my personal information. They can't even be trusted with their own platform and I think I'm going to leave. I had a pretty extensive stint of not visiting anymore and if push comes to shove, I can leave. I just wish there were an alternative.
Hey, u/spez, how about you come down from your ivory tower, you bastard and look at how hard you fucked things up! Just because people use it, doesn't mean it's good. What you transformed Reddit into, is the social media equivalent of a prison nutraloaf!

It had phases. There was a stint of when people knew coontown would be deleted, so racist shit for about a month straight. Then there were Trebuchet memes. They were a complete pest, held the platform hostage and made r/all unusable. One of the most influential users got banned and there were rules made to keep mods from gaining too much influence (with varying degrees of success), then there was that Doland Drumpf's first campaign for president and yet again far right people managed to manipulate the platform to have their orange god emperor all over the place.
I do give you that: There were incidents, but it also always got fixed. I don't see how the current state of affairs is a solution. Oh so you keep having weird issues with your legs. Let's just amputate it! Sorry, stupid analogy, but I hope it gets my point across. Having issues wasn't the problem. I think the goal was just to be able to better sell targeted ads. You can't effectively do that with an anything-goes kinda platform where people even roleplay as completely different characters and embrace the randomness.

This is not only about Reddit it is about everything, probably our civilization is on a descendent axe until will come to an end just like all others before. We are just part of it and we need to play our roles so enjoy it as it last, complaining will not bring it back.
