Elon is unintelligent enough to think that flying cars are a good idea when most people either suck at driving normally or can barely afford gas for a regular car, let alone a flying car that would need way more energy to work.

93

u/Murky-Course6648 6h ago

This is not a flying car, this is advertisement trick. This is purely about the attention, that all these post about it gathers. This is marketing.

Why do people think this is an actual flying car?

66

u/Suspicious_Dingo_426 6h ago

Because your average Musk fanboy is as big an idiot as he is.

20

u/Dull-Culture-1523 5h ago

Go on any of the tesla subreddits and you'll see people applauding him for making a flying car for "only $250k" and saying they'll order one immediately.

While I wouldn't be surprised most are bots, it's likely there are real people among them as well.

They actually believe this is a product they're already producing.

12

u/drmojo90210 5h ago

Of course the same idiots who can't find a buyer for the piece of shit Cybertruck they spent $120k on are going to line up to spend double that on a "flying car" LOL

6

u/fgzhtsp 5h ago

And then complain on Twitter that the democrats made the eggs unaffordable.

1

u/CantaloupeOne7283 4h ago

We're gonna see a lot of Elon fans dying in horrible electrical fires if this goes mainstream. Shit like this may work beautifully, at first. But people are absolutely terrible at maintaining their cars. There's a reason there are strict maintenance schedules and laws for helicopters and planes. Crashing into something is bad enough, but falling out of the sky adds a whole new dimension to your accident.

1

u/JonnyBolt1 3h ago

Not an issue with a make believe product that doesn't exist.

1

u/bryanthawes 3h ago

You will be unpleasantly surprised to learn most of those idiotic posts are from actual real-life human beings who support Elon Musk as the great white hope for America while also denouncing EVs and the infrastructure that would make EVs better supported.

They're literally fighting against supporting the imaginary electric vehicles they are shelling out $250k for. They're just really fucking stupid.

1

u/Loose_Paper_2598 2h ago

Flying cars are easy to build. There's millions on the road right now. A few of them get launched off bridges and overpasses every day. "Landing safely cars" are a lot more difficult. Besides, musky didn't invent or build that "car" either. He just paid off the guys that did.

•

u/Round_Bag_4665 1h ago

it also never occurred to them that this shit is almost certainly not street legal to drive either, and even if it was, the insurance, repair, and fuel costs would be insane.

•

u/Gam3rdudej 1h ago

Apparently 250k isn't even the final price and there isn't a final price as of now. Seems exactly like a rug pull.

1

u/Andyseawolf 5h ago

When your argument is so weak that you have to insult everyone who disagrees with you, you might want to reconsider who the idiot is. 😂

•

u/Warrmak 15m ago

No tesla "fanboy" thinks this. Its a caricature conceived purely from the fiction of your psychosis

-13

u/Few_Cake_8209 6h ago

Yall are so angry all the time

7

u/AndrewBorg1126 6h ago

About people spreading lies without even thinking a little bit? Is that not supposed to upset people?

1

u/pantherpack84 5h ago

I think a large part of it is that people can’t understand by Republicans support an admitted sexual predator. What do you think is wrong with them that causes this? Is their excuse for supporting a sexual predator that they falsely believe they will be better financially off?

10

u/penisweinerballs 6h ago

Even if it was real why do people think Elon Musk designed it himself like he's Tony Stark

4

u/Ok_Subject1265 5h ago

Yesterday someone submitted an X post from an anonymous person stating that Elon personally corrects calculations at SpaceX as proof that he is an actual engineer doing most of the work over there. They want to believe this bullshit so bad it’s crazy. I can’t even post on the Elon sub anymore because I dared to say he wasn’t really an engineer. Instant ban. My question is: what the fuck have they been working on for the last decade if not beginning production on this thing? This stupid fucking demo?

3

u/drmojo90210 5h ago

Yeah I don't understand why so many people think Musk is an inventor or an engineer. He's a finance bro who employs inventors and engineers. Big difference. When Musk visits his companies' factories, the engineering heads intentionally try to distract him with pointless bullshit, because he's constantly meddling in projects he has no technical understanding of and fucking things up.

1

u/Faenic 5h ago

Can I get a link for that? I want to be able to use it

•

u/Gweedo1967 22m ago

You mean like Thomas Edison?

2

u/jjreinem 5h ago

I remember one time talking with a fanboy several years back who insisted that Musk was doing most of the engineering at SpaceX. I asked him why, if that was the case, the company employed over a thousand engineers. He insisted that they must have just been there for "refinement and detail work."

6

u/Diligent-Bowler-1898 6h ago

It's marketing precisely because some people think this is a fully working telsa car. Because it looks like it and has tinted glass so you can't see the mass of pipes and condenced gas cannisters inside.

3

u/Murky-Course6648 6h ago

If elon understands something, its the short attention economy.

2

u/WritersChopBlock 4h ago

Trump does too. Con men think alike.

3

u/poo-people 5h ago

I can't believe how many people don't realize there's zero passenger room in there.

It's literally filled to the brim with as much propellant as they could jam in there for 2 seconds of lift and stabilization.

•

u/Round_Bag_4665 1h ago

and even if there was, there's no way in hell something like that would be street legal anyways. Even if it was legal, could you imagine how much your insurance premiums would increase if some dumbass could jump and flip onto your car like a Mako from mass effect?

1

u/ryan__joe 3h ago

I promise there’s not a lot of mass in this if it’s not ai. It is a crazy light drone, or it’s ai

5

u/Holiday_Box1571 6h ago

This isn’t flying, it’s falling with style.

3

u/thisthatandtheother4 6h ago

Because dip-stick FElon described it as such.

3

u/SmertriosPPD 6h ago

Do they even show the inside of the car? I expect it to be full of gas bottles and no car seats.

2

u/AnarchyIsNotChaos 5h ago

I don't think people realize the amount of thrust this would require and the almost impossiblity of storing the amount of and the high pressure of the gas this would take. Like, where are you filling the tanks for this with? Elon is not an engineer no matter what he says. To engineers, he is a god damn parasite that comes in takes a good idea and the drains the companies he is in for money to fund his god awful AI product. Twitter was the first, space x is feeling it now, and Tesla will probably go next.

2

u/MythiKFeaR 5h ago

At best its a jumping car.

2

u/Wonderful-Crazy1910 2h ago

because they're claiming they're going to sell this model as "invite only"

1

u/newbie527 6h ago

You are right. It’s just jets of compressed gas and only works as long as you have pressure in the tank.

1

u/EbbNorth7735 6h ago

Yep, not a chance in hell this thing is ever sold in any sort of quantity beyond a billionaires curiosity. Even than I doubt they ever actually try it. The g-forxe likely requires a three point harness and a roll cage. Not even sure if people were in the vehicles.

1

u/Fly_throwaway37 6h ago

That's not flying that's falling w style

1

u/Sfpuberdriver 5h ago

It’s a “falling with style” car

1

u/sandsellers 5h ago

It's a jumping car, like a frog but could only jump once

1

u/ClosedContent 5h ago

It only “flies” for a few seconds to get the car back to the ground.

1

u/Lucius-Halthier 5h ago

Also isn’t that technology like decades old?

1

u/Fuzzy_Dance_6203 5h ago

What exactly are they marketing?

1

u/english_mike69 5h ago

Because at least one of the three versions of the roadster being sold can do what is shown in the pic.

1

u/Murky-Course6648 4h ago

Yeah, as some sort of "invite only". Basically a scam to make it seem like its real. They can then sell one for themselves to make it seem legal.

1

u/Odd_Common_452 5h ago

It’s not like Elon made it lol he just paid his employees to work on some vanity project

1

u/Character_Neck_6608 4h ago

Omg get out of my brain! I was literally getting ready to type this!!!

1

u/Docteur_Lulu_ 4h ago

Musketeers are dumbasses, that's why.

1

u/djdaem0n 4h ago

And even if it was... why do people think he had ANYTHING to do with it's design? He's not an engineer. The only thing he's ever brought to the development table at any of his companies is the shape of the CYBERTRUCK, the dumbest looking vehicle design in history.

1

u/BrilliantResort476 4h ago

exactly, the stocks went down after this little project lmao

1

u/wimpymist 3h ago

This is the same as people who freak out over a robot doing a backflip. We have been able to do stuff like this since the 80s.

0

u/Murky-Course6648 3h ago

Well at least those robots are the actual products being manufactured. They can do that.

But of course the kung fu demos are for promotion & attention to showcase what they can do.

1

u/mogelijk 3h ago

Yes, even the demo makes clear that it is a "jumping" car. It seems like it can "fly" about equally to the Wright Brothers Flyer at Kitty Hawk.

The next issue that no one thinks of, this will not be street legal (or even street able). The thrusters in the back would spray all sorts of dirt and debris on cars behind it, which could lead to a lot of insurance claims against the car. The fan keeping it on the road would suck up everything close, dirt, trash, manhole covers, grates, etc., which would destroy the fan underneath the car. And that is assuming he can bribe the Trump administration enough to certify it as a road car.

The car can't fly; it can't hold enough compressed air, it doesn't have enough power, it can only jump, maybe 100 feet, and then land safely. And that is ignoring the amount of processing power it needs to keep the car stable, adjusting the airflow to each nozzle, while being able to do the "tricks," like flipping over.

1

u/Fydron 3h ago

"Why do people think this is an actual flying car?"

Because a large majority of population is fucking stupid.

1

u/ShadowTacoTuesday 3h ago

Probably since people have been falling for flying concept cars since the 90s, and even back then they had better ones than this. It helps to have a dumb audience that falls for it.

1

u/jfcat200 3h ago

It at best is a hopping car as it has a max "flight" time of 4 seconds. Plus, DOT is never going to allow a passenger car to be on the road with a 10,000-psi carbon fiber air tank on board. Even if they did, it would require a 5-year hydrostatic inspection, which would require the tanks removal from the vehicle.

1

u/JonnyBolt1 3h ago

The point of this tweet is clearly to show that the quoted statement is undeniably correct.

1

u/EnrikHawkins 3h ago

Same reason they think they can buy a dancing robot dog.

•

u/stderr2 1h ago

It's a car and it flies?

•

u/Visual_Kitchen7448 1h ago

And I believe a pretty unflattering movie came out about him on the same day as that car flying

•

u/Jazzlike-Yogurt-5984 44m ago

Why do people think Elon built it?

•

u/NotInMoodThinkOfName 19m ago

Clear it's marketing. That doesn't even have a use.

Anyway look at our western world economy. We need affordable cars. Make advertise for that. That will bring people

0

u/BlockPlant 6h ago

…what? There was literally a live demonstration of it working.

3

u/CrotaIsAShota 6h ago

For how long? What kind of gas did they use for propellant, and how much? How much did this single jump cost? How would someone behind the wheel even CONTROL this? Is it automated? And should anyone with a license have access to it? The fact is nothing like this is ever gonna be street legal, and if this car is the first it'll only be because Elon's blackmailing the president.

3

u/Murky-Course6648 6h ago

Yes, but its not a car. Did they show what's inside of it? Like does people fit inside of it? Nope, its a car shaped thing that was made to do one thing.

Its a marketing gimmig, how can you not understand that?

1

u/thewanderingent 6h ago

I’m not convinced there weren’t wires. Show me the same demo on a clear sunny day and I might change my mind, but this was all bells and whistles without substance.

1

u/BlockPlant 5h ago

How do you know this?

1

u/Murky-Course6648 5h ago

Because nobody got to see insides of that car, and because it would not make sense to make an actual car to do that.

Its not like they are going to be producing that, it would not be legal anywhere.

Why do you think they would build a car that would be illegal everywhere in the world?

1

u/BlockPlant 4h ago

Yeah that’s fair. Still cool though. Not like I imagined myself ever owning one haha maybe applicable to like a mars rover or something.

1

u/Murky-Course6648 4h ago

Yeah, its cool but its sad its being used to mislead people.

Lockheed Martin's Multiple Kill Vehicle - YouTube

To contorl something witht his accuracy with basically controlled explosions is extremely cool.

21

u/7evenate9ine 6h ago

That 5 seconds of "flying" you saw is about all it can do. A vehicle that size is burning through propellant very fast. Nobody is going to be air-commuting to work in one of these.

4

u/Significant-Dog-8166 4h ago

It's compressed air, and yeah doesn't do sustained flight, just Fast and the Furious stunts.

•

u/mallcopsarebastards 33m ago

it can't even do that. the demo used an empty shell of a car.

2

u/Sufficient-Arm3715 5h ago

It’s so obviously a small RC car though…..

1

u/Super-Patient3105 3h ago

Say the line. Repeat the line. End of line.

1

u/Sufficient-Arm3715 2h ago

The emperor wears no clothes moment.

•

u/Super-Patient3105 1h ago

“Reeee. Hot wheel and/or RC car!”

1

u/Izan_TM 2h ago

I don't understand this fixation with it not being a real stunt

Making a car do a flip is hardly the most difficult thing the spacex guys have ever done. Remember these are the guys who put the previous roadster in space with a rocket that landed itself in 3 parts, and they're now consistently catching the biggest and most powerful sex toy ever built out of the air using 3 gimballing thrusters and a big tower with 2 metal arms.

it's vaporware, it will never be on the roads or in the hands of consumers, and it's not a complete car, just a show car, but it makes no sense for them to not just do the stunt at full scale

1

u/Sufficient-Arm3715 2h ago

Because it’s obvious, and it’s amazing that so many people are falling for it. That’s a notable occurrence.

•

u/Izan_TM 1h ago

unless you think that all the spacex landings are fake, why would they fake this when they have knowledge on how to do far harder things?

2

u/Status_Cheesecake_49 4h ago

Right?! This thing just kind of hovered more than anything and descended a bit. It’s not gonna be flying around back to the future style

2

u/GibbyG1100 3h ago

Its like with space rockets. People dont seem to understand that like 80% of what they see in the videos is the fuselage to hold the fuel needed for liftoff.

And those are designed to break away when the fuel is spent. Where are you putting that infrastructure on a car?

1

u/Chocopenguin85 2h ago

You DO understand that what you were shown is not an actual, working, flying car, right? THe compressed air "thrusters" were very showy for cameras and eyes, but NOT capable of getting that amount of weight off the ground, let alone sustain it, and do any stunts? RIGHT?

-2

u/stderr2 6h ago

There are companies getting closer, it's interesting that Musk is thinking about it

4

u/7evenate9ine 6h ago

Flying cars will never be real.

Regular cars crash in the US 16,000 times per day. Now add falling from the sky after getting hit. Dead.

1

u/stderr2 2h ago

There is less to hit in the sky and they will be autonomous capable before they let you fly around

•

u/7evenate9ine 1h ago

Cars can't hold enough fuel for sustainable wingless flight. You are implicitly telling me you don't have much of an education. You shouldn't have dropped out of school.

3

u/damnburglar 5h ago

Son, we have had light aircraft forever, and guys are out there making rideable drones. We are not getting generally available flight, period. We can’t trust motherfuckers to signal on lane changes, observe crossings, or drive sober. What makes you think they’re going to be allowed to be the Jetsons?

1

u/stderr2 2h ago

Not having to pay for roads

1

u/damnburglar 2h ago

Not having to pay for roads would be rad, but imagine everyone and their mother flying around wherever they want with typical road lemming spatial awareness. Think of the worst drivers you’ve seen on the road, then imagine them zipping along over your home. God imagine being in a mid rise apartment and having to keep your eyes peeled for some dumbass on a cell phone barreling into your living room.

0

u/stderr2 2h ago

This is going to be autonomous, as I said. This will use planned routes with planned exits if you have trouble. It will not be a free for all, flying around willy nilly

2

u/BeenDragonn 6h ago

Companies getting closer? To what? Actual hover cars? Geeez

1

u/stderr2 2h ago

Joby Aviation, Archer Aviation, and Wisk. These are air taxis that will become autonomous and you could own one.

17

u/PeacenotWardude 7h ago

Don’t forget all the alcoholics flying those cars too.

15

u/Cultural-Lab78 7h ago

All of a sudden DUI is an act of terrorism

4

u/PeacenotWardude 7h ago

Gonna be a lot of drunk 9-11s that for sure.

3

u/Ok_Independence_9917 7h ago

It's ok because Reno 911 is here to book the people flying into towers

2

u/PeacenotWardude 7h ago

I would pay to see Reno 911 do a parody of homeland security or tsa agents show.

2

u/Ok_Independence_9917 7h ago

Imagine the fun they could have with it. 15 years into the future not brushing your teeth is an "act of terrorism" and the crew at Reno 911 can search your luggage under the Patriot act. During the search they find an unregistered personal vibration device, which originally contained an Amazon camera, but the camera was illegally removed. Actually they better not do this show. Our government officials might see it and think these are good ideas.

1

u/Defiant_Conflict6343 6h ago

"Mr President, a 2nd Tesla has struck the towers"

3

u/ArchonFett 6h ago

And the there is the “self flying” mode.

3

u/Cultural-Lab78 6h ago

The Minority Report was the closest to having a realistic adaptation of public hyper travel. In my layman's opinion

10

u/Potential_Salt_5780 6h ago

It’s not even flying. It’s boosted for a few seconds and then falls. There’s no way these things ever come to market.

11

u/Ryaniseplin 7h ago

9/11s would be happening on a daily basis

5

u/LorenzoSparky 7h ago

Ah yes, a flying car wouldn’t possibly be dangerous on a real road with over cabling, pedestrians, traffic lights etc

4

u/cleatsurfer 6h ago

Imagine the noise flying cars would create.

2

u/PBPunch 7h ago

We all know this ain't for most people.

2

u/ShockLongjumping9322 6h ago

He actually gave a speech a while ago about how stupid flying cars are.

It's not about the flying, it's about the failures and what they mean.

1

u/Zwiebel1 4h ago

It is also about the flying.

Like, thruster based VTOL capability is the most energy hungry form of flying. There is a reason planes have Wings and helicopters have blades.

If you ever want a flying car to be remotely able to lug its own energy storage around for a distance longer than a quick jump, you will always end up back at the plane/helicopter design.

1

u/notedeghost 6h ago

Much less gravity on Mars. He's way ahead of his time and space.

1

u/SmootherWorm 6h ago

The energy use of a dedicated flying car is why higher than that for a conventional car, but this is worse because it’s a Tesla with the extra 600-1000 curb weight from the battery packs.

Also Tesla’s are notorious for weird little failures due to software issues or dust (ask how I know) that would almost certainly result in a car like this going into an uncontrolled flip or simply failing to engage.

1

u/BlockPlant 6h ago

The car will fly itself. Either way this is an elite level of engineering.

1

u/sambucuscanadensis 6h ago

It actually works on compressed air. You know, like you get at the compressed air station down the street

1

u/CatDadof2 6h ago

My coworker was showing me this yesterday and this is exactly what I was thinking. The amount of resources that would be needed to use this thing is unbelievable. To top that, if I were to use this, my house would catch on fire. I don’t have a long driveway to where the vehicle could be at a safe distance from my house. There are so many scenarios that just makes this a terrible idea.

1

u/m4rc0n3 5h ago

Why would your house catch on fire from compressed air?

1

u/Qs9bxNKZ 6h ago

Let us guess, you have never stepped foot into a cockpit and set the controls on the left seat.

Fucking moron, just because you can’t shift gears doesn’t mean we can’t toe shift.

“I don’t get why everyone can’t change gears in a manual gear box!”

Then don’t buy one.

1

u/ciopobbi 6h ago

It’s for clicks. A gimmick. Tesla stock is flailing. This a desperate move to prop it up. It seats one. Will never be legal. And will never be built. But next time I’m driving up a 90 degree inclined ramp I’ll sure wish I had one.

1

u/MrJarre 6h ago

If fuel efficiency was the only viable metric sports cars, suvs and truck would never be a thing.

1

u/KingOfTheMischiefs 6h ago

Remember how dude made that stupid loop tunnel thing that was supposed to erase traffic?

1

u/Snoo71538 6h ago

It is for sale “by invitation only”. Meaning, not for sale.

A car that could reorient itself during a rollover would be a pretty huge safety innovation, and not need full flight forever amounts of energy.

1

u/PersimmonExpensive37 6h ago

Where I come from, people crash into buildings all the time. Every day would be 9/11 all over again.

1

u/stoopkid86 6h ago

People always bring up how people suck at regular driving so flying cars would obviously be too dangerous. The thing is though if flying cars ever become feasible they will be fully automated while in the air, no normal person will be controlling their car while it's airborne.

1

u/Numerous_Photograph9 5h ago

This car isn't even flying. It's jumping, or falling depending on how you want to look at it.

1

u/silv3rbull8 5h ago

In specific contexts they are useful.

1

u/Not_Allowed_to_Die 5h ago

That's not a flying car. That is just a jumping car. It can't safely land, and flips in the air. MAGA try this at home, and they are landing upside down.

1

u/raonibr 5h ago

In all fairness. I'm pretty sure he is fully aware it's nothing but a marketing stunt and will never happen.

He just know his fanbase will eat it up and continue to buy his stocks for ludicrous prices because of it.

Elon is the world first trillionaire because he found a new business model where the main product of his companies is the stock itself and the money from selling the stocks gets reinvested into stunts to further prop the stock.

Is it sustainable? No. Is it dumb? Yes. But not for him.

1

u/GhostofBreadDragons 5h ago

Flying car is the only way the FSD will ever work.

1

u/Mundane_Caramel_820 5h ago

I recall him saying, during discussions about the Hyperloop, that flying cars would be a very bad idea. No one wants these vehicles flying overhead, potentially falling onto their homes or families. Insurance companies wouldn't get involved.

1

u/TheRaccoonReport 5h ago

I DO see at least one interesting use case for this actually. While I think 99% of the idea is batshit crazy and is a trick to give Wall Street people a hard on.....I think theres a use case for emergency vehicles.

Imagine if you will, an awful car accident, or a fire. Miles of traffic gridlock. A fire engine, ambulance, etc, needs to get to the scene but cant. Fire the boosters to do a controlled boost over the traffic into the shoulder, or a safe zone, to get to the scene.

This is NOT a controlled boost, its timed or predicted (or appears to be). I mean more like true low height flight for short distances.

1

u/Mysterious-Hyena2670 5h ago

Seriously. People can barely handle obeying basic traffic laws.

1

u/Andyseawolf 5h ago

It was just a cool stunt. What makes you think they want to produce something like this?

1

u/depp-fsrv 5h ago

Also I don't think he invented it, his team of engineers made it work, just like the SpaceX rockets, he just proposed the idea.

1

u/vxxed 4h ago

Let alone a barely flying car that has some 25kg of TNT Equivalent

1

u/LegendaryJimBob 4h ago

Wrong. He and all his fanbois/supporters are full on morons, because they still believe Elon has invented this or just about anything. He isnt the inventor or designer, he is the owner. He sits back doing fcking nothing, and takes all the credit. The car "flying" isnt the work of Elon, even saying he was the one who had the idea is pure delusional insanity, as the idea of flying car is atleast 30 years old, aka likely the entire idea is older than Elon himself, so he wasnt the inventor, designer or the idea man, then what is he? Fcking rich douche taking credit for the work of others, and taking 99% of any profits made from other people's work.

1

u/Acrobatic-Echo-3460 4h ago

He also thinks fuck’n tunnels everywhere and terraforming mars is a good idea. The dude is a rich asshole who can speak louder than everyone else.

1

u/trangenderman 4h ago

You must be smarter. When will you surpass him as the richest person alive?

1

u/Energy_Bol 3h ago

$100 for a gas fill up doesnt seen too bad when you need $900 to fill up your propellant systems because you did one too many backflips.

1

u/SirWernich 2h ago

only the really rich people will be able to afford this, and you know what? that’s cool. the rich people deserve it. if they want to fly their cars all over the place, then we should let them do that, in the same way we let them get into a submarine to go look at the titanic.

1

u/TomLeBadger 2h ago

He also would have had 0 technical input.

•

u/FalseDiamond7930 1h ago

He was openly against flying cars when he was promoting this other scam, The Boring Company.

•

u/exoticstructures 1h ago

Seriously, most people can't seem to manage a merge lane properly so flying is Way out of touch.

•

u/Genghis_Chong 1h ago

Besides the fact that he's not the engineer designing any of his shit

•

u/speedbreaka 57m ago

Also flying cars are just helicopters…

•

u/Fickle-Salamander-65 43m ago

He doesn’t think that though. It’s a stunt. It’s always a stunt. And the markets fall for it.

0

u/Ok-Cry7712 6h ago

It depends on what you mean buy flying did you ever play air hockey I belive it will be something like that you'll be Basically flooting not flying also I doubt you'll be able to move like a car you most likely be on special type of road or track as for fuel or energy the road or track would probably power it like a tram car
