Image / Video Two minute apart from each other

Post image

This is just wild. PlayStation wanted to end their partnership with Hideo Kojima. So Xbox was like: "Your loss."

This year is really starting to feel like an inverse of 2014 when Xbox ruined their public image with some insane Always Online DRM requirements and PlayStation capitalized on that.

Sony is speed running losing all the good will they built during the PS4 era.

It’s such a shame

They clearly think they're too big to fail, and it's up to consumers to show them otherwise.

They are too big to fail. It's sad but even if 20% of all PS5 gamers worldwide boycotted them (and trust me it won't be anywhere near 20% doing that) they would still be perfectly fine. People are mad at Sony but not so mad that they're just gonna stop playing video games on the console they own

They absolutely would not be fine—shareholders would not tolerate this in the slightest.

Well 20% is definitely an overestimation, I'll admit. I'd be surprised if it were even 5%. And if Sony loses 5% of their customers by killing physical games, they will easily make that money back because they now have a monopoly on game sales and can simply charge more. Not to mention other ways of squeezing money out of people that they're trying right now like dynamic pricing

Yeah, I’m sure they ran the numbers on this and that’s why they think they can absorb the blowback from discontinuing physical.

You are correct. I'm still going to keep playing my PlayStation because I have it, I'm just not buying any more games. But I do still have PS Plus for now since I game with my friends on the weekend.

I don't know you or your convictions, so far all I know you're telling the truth and you will never purchase a new PS5 game ever again in your life. But I honestly really doubt that.

At this point I've been working on my PC game library instead. Every game I buy these days is on PC. Horizon 3 would be tempting but I don't even think it's going to be on a current console, and I'm not buying a PS6 either way.

PC is a good option for a lot of people but most gamers are not gonna make that switch for a number of different reasons, the rapidly skyrocketing price of PC parts being chief among them

Oh yeah for sure. Like I said in another comment, I'm glad I built it before prices got crazy. Wouldn't even consider it now.

Its not as far fetched as it sounds since many people also own PCs or Nintendos. I won't say I'm never buying another Playstation game again, but I'm taking 95%+ of my business elsewhere.

It adds up. Moving away all multiplatform games to PC. Buying older games on PC or going out of my way to borrow from the library or buy used, when in the past I would have considered the PS store as an option. Basically that leaves PS, once they go all digital, with just their 1-2 exclusives per year that I'm interested in. Which I'll be more selective of and wait to get discounted if they are truly great

It does add up but Sony will also be making more money on game sales now as a result of having a monopoly and having almost all the money go to them. The amount by which their profits increase will probably exceed the amount they lose by people choosing not to buy their games anymore.

Im sure they will but I hope it opens the door to competitors to take share, like when Xbox dropped the ball many years ago.

Sony isn't crying over my $1000 / year, but if they keep putting out and canceling live service garbage, monopolizing the storefront, raising online play pricing, putting out subpar exclusives, and generally being anti consumer then I hope more people also move their business elsewhere. They're already hurting with how much they spend on these ballooned budgets which ultimately lead to canceled projects no one wanted. So I do believe their mistakes are adding up and already hurting them, and my business is a small part of that
