Personally, I think that people don't hate AI as much as they claim they do. They hate AI slop. Because it's bad. And because it's easy to tell it's AI slop. When AI produces things that are indistinguishable from human made things, a lot of people won't really care unless you specifically go out of your way to tell it's AI. Then they're gonna pretentiously claim that it's bad and was always bad and slop.

I think when AI products are good enough, most people will choose to live in peaceful bliss not caring if it's made by AI or a person.

33

u/MaddMax92 8h ago

People don't solely complain about ai slop because of quality concerns. I'm sure you know full well what their actual moral objections are.

6

u/Hefty-Reaction-3028 6h ago

A lot of them do. Not you, but more normy types who aren't on Reddit all the time. They care about the quality of the product because that's what directly affects them

4

u/GreenHouseofHorror 7h ago edited 7h ago

Most of the moral objections are either plagiarism or environmental.

Plagiarism is less of an issue with code, for various reasons. Not none, but certainly less.

And the environmental issues are very nuanced. The amount of AI use means the total impact is truly massive. But individual instances of it are often dramatically more efficient than the old fashioned way of doing things.

Lots more non-moral objections exist of course. But they tend to be of a piece with any time the barrier to entry to a field is lowered massively. We have a huge curation problem now. But it's not the first time. In a sense reddit is one previous answer to the curation problems the internet posed.

2

u/Endreeemtsu 3h ago

I guess you forgot the countless jobs that exist too that corps are working on outsourcing to AI as we speak.

3

u/Gros_Boulet 7h ago

No, the biggest non moral objection is this:

Now every week there is a billionaire publishing in his newspapers articles about how we gotta loose our jobs and die of thirst because his AI needs it more than us.

And the job is done worst at more cost.

8

u/GreenHouseofHorror 6h ago

That seems like both a moral objection, and one that fits under environmental concerns.

1

u/Gros_Boulet 29m ago

I didn't know survival was a moral concept these days.

1

u/deus_x_machin4 5h ago

Then why are you on Reddit? It is certainly coded by AI development, which means that the moral failings of AI are all around us, being rewarded by the ad money you generate for them.

3

u/84theone 4h ago

0

u/Warmbly85 4h ago

There’s a stark difference between having to exist in society while disliking how it’s structured and using a product for fun/leisure that you have a moral objection to.

It’s like saying a communist who wears Gucci shouldn’t be called a hypocrite because they have to participate in society so they may as well wear designer.

50

u/EspurrTheMagnificent 7h ago

No, when I say I hate AI, I mean it. I don't want to hate AI, since neural networks have genuinely fantastic use cases, but I have to hate AI since it will inevitably be used to make as many people lose their job as possible

Everytime someone uses AI and gets away with it, it normalizes it just a little bit more, slowly giving more and more leeway for companies to once again fuck us over. There is no compromising on this one. Either we stop it all now, or we're fucked

18

u/Xombridal 7h ago

Yeah this 100%. There's good uses of AI but if we let every little Timmy make whatever they want it really harms how useful ai is, by adding some useless borderline negative uses

2

u/Anti-charizard All AI steals no exceptions 3h ago

I agree. I do not think the guy who screwed over Adobe with AI deserves as much slack as he’s getting

1

u/Intelligent-Cap-8886 1h ago

Wtf??? Fuck this take. You'd see us trapped under corpo forever.

3

u/Available-Square619 4h ago

But that’s not hating AI, that’s hating ppl and our govt.

People talking about AI slop when referring to anything AI weakens the real issue. It needs heavy regulation and safeguards, but acting like it’s all stupid and has no use case anywhere makes those people look uneducated and then ignored.

3

u/SwampOfDownvotes 6h ago

People losing their jobs or having less working days can actually be an amazing thing, if the infrastructure could support it. I don't see anyway that actually happening in current times and with current politics, but I like to at least dream it will go the route of bringing about shorter work days, earlier retirements, etc.

2

u/lukekul12 6h ago

The problem is AI isn’t cheap, so companies have to choose between paying for AI tools, or paying employees. From their perspective, If an AI tool can already do most of the work of an employee, then why keep investing in Human Resources if AI is only expected to improve?

It’s not an easily written-off expense like Microsoft Office or something

5

u/SwampOfDownvotes 5h ago

No I get that, under current society structure, it's an issue. Owning and driving a car also wouldn't have worked in the 1800s, but times change.

Ai is going to be a thing no matter how much anyone opposes it. Even if it was literally made illegal, companies are going to find ways to skirt the rules or just blatantly do it and hope to not get caught.

Instead of trying to ban cars, let's build the right regulations, licensing requirements, road networks, gas stations, and highway systems that allow people to have their life improved.

3

u/RagingNerd312 6h ago

I hate to break it to you.. but you interact with AI everyday, and have been for years. If you claim to hate AI then you hate everything from your computer to auto translating devices. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. Just because people use AI to help them with code doesn’t mean they work for the opposition. These delusions of grandeur will be the reason you won’t have a job in the future.

2

u/Guidebook0 6h ago

The difference with AI nowadays and AI in the past is that it wasn't in your face and wasn't using water to generate videos of random shit.

When we say 'we hate AI' we mean the generative side that steals content, scrapes websites and creates soulless 'creations' that try and pose as something a human made.

I love AI's like the robots from WALL-E. Those types of robots would benefit us greatly and actually give a reason for AI to exist since they can actually do stuff with the world. But AI, as it is primarily used and referred to now, is not doing the earth any favors.

Also if you don't know how to code something you should learn what you didn't know before so that you can code better in the future. But no, lets use AI as a shortcut to keep our knowledge limited by making it do that work.

0

u/presidentofjackshit 5h ago

I mean that's how progress is. It'll be short term pain for long term gain. You don't get to WALL-E without going through AI videos of those anthropomorphized fruits having affairs or whatever the fuck.

2

u/Guidebook0 5h ago

The sooner we leave this era the better. Generated AI creates stupid bullshit from fictional things and serve zero purpose, we've been capable of creating robots to fight in rings way before this excuse of technology came to be as example. This subsection of ai was always going to happen, true, but that doesn't make it any better or give it more value. Hell, it detracts from actual useful ai development that gets it money sucked away by chatbots who do the job of search engines but extremely worse

2

u/presidentofjackshit 4h ago

Personally, if I could "undo" AI I probably would, because I think it'll be hell on our society. BUT, it's here, and I've found it to be very useful on a personal level.

It is the single most enabling piece of technology that I've come across, at least for me personally, so to call it just a worse chatbot is a bit strange to me. I don't know how others are using AI, and obviously its adoption globally concerns me, but it's probably the least useless piece of tech I've engaged with in my life.

2

u/SevenSnow 6h ago

No, when I say i hate automated machinery, I mean it. I don’t want to hate machines, since engineering has genuinely fantastic use cases, but i have to hate machines since it will inevitably be used to make as many people lose their job as possible

Everytime someone uses machines and gets away with it, it normalizes it just a bit more, slowly giving more and more leeway for companies to once again fuck us over. There is no compromising in this one. Either we stop it all now, or we’re fucked

9

u/TheShadowX 5h ago

"you see, this all-purpose human replacement algorithm is the same as this one specific machinery tailored to that one task, i don't see the issue"

5

u/GregBahm 5h ago

It's weird how redditors who hate AI also wildly overestimate the power of AI.

Machines replaced 99% of jobs over the past 100 years. 99% of Americans used to be subsistence farmers. Now 1% of Americans are subsistence farmers.

We just move forward to new jobs.

3

u/Integer_Domain 4h ago

In a big picture view, we do. It will be easy for the generation that follows the transition to find their place in the market. It will be easy for people who have had long careers to pivot using all the knowledge they gained. It will not be easy for recent grads and early career professionals who invested limited time and borrowed money into a path that might not exist soon.

1

u/GregBahm 40m ago

Eh. Name the year where graduates weren't saying the same thing. Every year it's different because every year nobody has seen technology like this year's technology. Every year what all the recent graduates fail to realize is that all the guys already in the industry are just as new to the recent technology as anyone else. So the unemployment rate never actually changes no matter what technology ends up doing.

1

u/cozylovingnerd 4h ago

Isn't losing jobs normal though? If you look at the industrial revolution, there are a lot of people who lost their jobs because they could be done quicker, however, those who were open to learning new things found different jobs. At the end of the day isn't the goal of everyone to get as much work done as possible in as little time and as high quality as possible? Like why would you hire a person for your business if you don't need it?

I also felt the same way for a bit as a (junior/soon mid level) software engineer and then I realised how much power this gives me. It pretty much gets rid of the boring, tedious part of the job, like learning the syntax for a millionth language, searching through a million google results just to find out how to do a simple conversion for something, debugging through my code for an hour or two just to find out I made a typo and that was the mistake, etc...

I can focus on the product itself, its features, the users / customers and other potential problems to solve. I still have to use my brain and think, I just have to have a different mindset.

1

u/TheOneWho0bserves 1h ago

I think you hate LLMs and GenAI. And AI slop people not the umbrella term "AI". Machine learning fights cancer you can't tell me that's a bad thing.

1

u/Lashdemonca 6h ago

The losing jobs argument has nothing to do with AI and everything to do with the concept of progress.

People WILL lose their jobs. And it might even be me. But killing AI to save people's jobs is literally throwing the baby out with the bath water.

If we are fucked we are fucked. But I don't think sacrificing one of the best advances in human history just to save jobs is really the best decision.

Governments will need to deal with the concept of joblessness as a *norm" ubi needs to be implemented, baseline safety needs to be ensured.

1

u/One_Pitch3982 6h ago

"I hate AI!"

Proceeds to AI hallucinate a problem that has proven won't be a problem because of AI hallucinations

0

u/The_Arachnoshaman 6h ago

People losing their jobs is the main appeal for me. I honestly think we need to have a mass level of unemployment before most people actually take social safety nets seriously.

I can't wait, until people have to experience what it's like to live on the equivalent of disability or something so they finally understand the stakes of a neoliberal, top-down economy.

11

u/Daveinatx 9h ago

AI makes us lazy. Engineering students need to work their minds to understand certain principals. Otherwise, they'll never be able to push the state of art.

13

u/Dziadzios 7h ago

I don't care about slop. In fact, I find slop kinda charming, funny and entertaining.  However I care about damage caused by data centers buying all hardware, water and electricity they can and centralization of power in the hands of governments and corporations. Locally generated slop is cute.

1

u/Kubaj_CZ 7h ago

Do you realize AI uses the same datacenters that are utilized by Reddit and the rest of the internet? The environment argument is utter nonsense. Or do you feel like you're destroying everything for being on Reddit?

If it was actually about environment (in the USA) then we would ban those environmentally unfriendly lawns, golf courts, heavily curtail/ban most of the meat industry, etc. AI datacenter use is absolutely irrelevant. People who claim they hate AI because of the environment are either deeply misinformed or they are liars and disinformers themselves.

5

u/Dziadzios 7h ago

Yes, and I think we would be better off with decentralized forums and websites hosted by some random dudes in their basements on their old PCs.

1

u/Kubaj_CZ 7h ago

Locally hosted Reddit when?

3

u/Top-Common-5108 6h ago

When redditors put their money where their mouth is

60

u/Ryoubi_Wuver 6h ago

No man, fuck all that. This isn't performative and I've literally stopped playing games that have it.

Sometimes I will see something's I think I like but then find out AI made it then I feel almost ripped off in a way or lied to.

I seriously don't enjoy having to vet every twitter artist to check if they use it. I don't like it.

Especially in the gaming sphere where you have to pay for things.

I don't want AI generated garbage and art can often come with a level of intentionality that AI can't mimic.

Any time you see a game's environment, gameplay, or story that were created using AI prompts that's a missed opportunity to use some of that intentionally. That's the care and attention to detail that makes games great.

25

u/nz-whale 6h ago

I assume you don't use any software that's been worked on in the last year or so then?

17

u/TheSmilingSolaris 3h ago

1

u/SlopAndGlorp 44m ago

Nobody is forcing you to use reddit though. And it is heavily developed by AI

5

u/ContributionVisual40 6h ago

He said games not all software.

11

u/deus_x_machin4 5h ago

Yeah, that's the point. Not playing AI-made games but using AI-made software is totally arbitrary.

I find this arbitrary line comes from people with a weakly developed sense of what is beautiful- i.e. being dependent on things like fame, popularity, profit markers, or other superficial features when trying to determine if something is art/beautiful.

A perfectly tight compiler or a well-coded state machine can be as beautiful as a Monet, but the person above is drawing the line for protecting human beauty in a totally arbitrary way that is likely informed by what things would be too inconvenient to protest.

11

u/ContributionVisual40 5h ago

Games are art. Reddit is a social media platform. Thats the distinction. I dont want AI art period.

Personally, I still dont like ai (specifically vibecoding) in any software though.

In programming there is the design and the development. Ai doing the development is fine. Ai doing designing is creatively bankrupt.

4

u/deus_x_machin4 5h ago

To you, certainly. But art and beauty are subjective things. You can't convince me that code isn't art because even as a novice, I've written code that had more care and beauty of symmetry as the Jackson Pollocks hanging in the museum down town.

2

u/Gorgonkain 5h ago

There is one key component to art that is not subjective. That it is human expression. AI is not human expression.

1

u/ContributionVisual40 5h ago

The code being designed is art I agree. But the literal words in the file is not art. The line gets blurred a lot. And with vibecoding and ai assisted coding a lot of the time AI ends up making design decisions.

2

u/deus_x_machin4 5h ago

The literal words in the file...? What are you talking about? This is the kind of thing that makes me suspect that you have not programmed much. There is no clear distinction between 'code' and 'the literal words'. This is akin to saying that a story can be art but the literal words on the pages are not.

You can downvote my previous comment if you want, but this will not change the subjectivity of art. Nor will it do anything to elevate what you care about to something higher than personal preference.

1

u/cradleu 4h ago

It’s like saying the literature is art but the literal words aren’t. Like what? The text is the entire medium for the art form

1

u/Money_Weekend2859 5h ago

Sometimes, augmented by the engineer often, but yes all softwate that has has an update, including the platform you're currently using, has ai code in it.

0

u/Ryoubi_Wuver 4h ago

I think Pollock means chicken or something but I don't think he's talking about anything avian here...

5

u/After_Counter735 5h ago

So you'd be fine with AI doing the development of games as long as the art and design aspects are human made?

1

u/unionizetransgirlies 28m ago

the story? the dialogue? theres more to games than the art and design aspects that make it art

1

u/TheChief275 4h ago

An elegant codebase is art as well

1

u/humanlvl1 4h ago

Games might be art but the art lives in design, gameplay, visual, sounds, music, storytelling, voice acting etc. It has nothing to do with whether the data access layer was coded by Claude or not.

1

u/IhateEgplant 32m ago

Using AI for development already reduces its artistic value in my opinion. But to each their own

1

u/Anti-charizard All AI steals no exceptions 3h ago

I don’t want to use software that I know for certain was made with AI either.

0

u/Ryoubi_Wuver 4h ago

I don't believe them to be the same. The intention, appeal and purpose behind them is different. I'm not buying any game with an intention of tasting what Chatgpt is cooking.

There are differing levels of tolerance towards AI depending on its use and it's absurd to think otherwise whilst having this discussion.

Edit: I definitely see the point you're try to make though, I'm not deaf to it. I just disagree

2

u/SomeDudeAtAKeyboard 4h ago

“You think capitalism is bad, but you have a smartphone” ass take.

-1

u/Warmbly85 4h ago

It’s closer to you hate exploitive practices but still buy from nestle.

It’s something that’s avoidable but you choose not to because it’s easier.

4

u/SomeDudeAtAKeyboard 4h ago

I didn’t know that it was easy to just not have AI shoved into the web browser that you used to primarily use, or to not have AI featured shoved into your fucking email account and hiding the opt-out options under 4 menus.

It’d be one thing if AI was just being used to make new software, but it’s being shoved into software that most people have already been using for literal years, and the ways to disable or remove that AI bullshit keep getting more and more obscure cause companies want to inflate AI usage numbers with artificial data

3

u/Cwaghack 4h ago

Literally any piece of software that has been updated/created in the past year has 100% guarenteed had AI involved in making it.

You literally cannot use a computer in 2026 without there being some AI shoved in your face

1

u/AdmiralBlack64 4h ago

Using AI as a tool to assist coding is different than having AI just do it for you. However, it has absolutely no place in art.

1

u/Ready-House-1415 4h ago

Switching my pc off windows for this very reason, the second ai hit the OS i started the switch. Got rid of firefox for their ai usage despite it being opt out, getting rid of my google accounts and now host my own email on my own website written by me. Having to spend active time trying to avoid ai usage is a hassle and a half but im doing it for myself as ai feels like the antithesis of the life ive lead to this point. I love learning, and i love creating, and billion dollar companies will not take that away from me no matter how they try

1

u/Endreeemtsu 3h ago

What are you even talking about dude. It’s inescapable at this point. It is actually impossible to not engage with AI at every level if you’re living in 2026. Whether you asked for it or not. The corps have made damn sure that you don’t have a choice.

This is the ole “oh you don’t approve of late stage capitalism? I see you bought food today. Interesting.” Potato ass argument.

1

u/Tall-Dot-607 2h ago

We also really need to start breaking down the different category of Ai. Most people hate specifically gen ai. You dont see anyone complaining about the predictive text on their phones.

-4

u/fepord 6h ago

He's commenting on Reddit so no lol. I know a few Reddit engineers and they been using AI since chatgpt came out

2

u/Bocaj1126 6h ago

Can't quote reply cus on mobile but ur 4th paragraph is exactly his point. What will you do if/when it CAN mimic the level of intentionality that ur talking ab. Maybe you will stick to these principles regardless but bloodwolf's point is that many many people won't.

2

u/FireTheRainbowSoul please set me free im hungry 5h ago

you know you can do the quote block on mobile by having > at the beginning of a paragraph

like this

1

u/Nightmare-datboi 5h ago

I dunno kms?

1

u/Unlaid-American 4h ago

If it gets to that point, then we’re fucked anyway. The amount of power, water, and pollution it needs to just be fucking shit, means that to be good it would just fuck is over

2

u/Smile_Space 6h ago

What about all the things you use that have AI that you have no idea have or used AI?

I can guarantee you just about every new app or software you use has used AI in some part of the process.

The top level comment hit it on the nose. You hate it when the AI usage is obvious because it's only obvious when it's objectively worse than human-generated code.

If it's on par or better, and you aren't aware it's even been used, then it's fine.

And honestly I'm more in that boat anyway. I hand-write everything, I don't use AI to write for me. I only use it occasionally to answer a question I'm struggling to Google about only to then take what it says and fact check it.

I also use it to code more monotonous things. Like if I want to scrape data out of a formatted file for some analysis I'm running, I could take 4 hours to code up a scraper to extract all of the data I need, or I can ask AI and it'll make one up in about 2 minutes that works for that specific purpose.

The main issue I find is when AI does the majority of the work. It's meant to be a tool, not the entire workshop. I may own a hammer, but it's not building the car in my garage. It helps a ton to knock a bolt loose here and there though.

1

u/SushiRollKei 5h ago

At this point anything post 2025 I avoid or investigate before I buy. Girlfriend and I have a collection of DVDs and games we watch/play and plan to keep growing

1

u/FormerWorker125 5h ago

Lol people are making things with AI and not disclosing it and you have no idea.  I love it

1

u/CrowCreative6772 5h ago

Even the piracy went full ai on their progress to emulate games but they all still say fuck ai

1

u/After_Counter735 5h ago

Im not gonna lie man, every single game with more than like 2 people working on it will have used AI.

1

u/RadiantEagle8167 4h ago

Sitting there screaming with your full diaper isn't going to magically make the world turn their head and stop all AI use.

Just stop buying and block it in your feeds and stop jumping on people like a rabid dog. It's unhinged to be scrubbing and auditing every single use of AI.

1

u/karmaboy20 4h ago

you don't like spending hours stalking Twitter accounts then don't do it lol. Seems unhealthy

1

u/Ok-Guarantee-3775 4h ago edited 3h ago

I hate to break it to you but whether people realize it or not literally all coding has had AI built into it in some way for quite some time now. So I'm not sure how extensive you want to be with this anti AI coding, which is what OP is talking about, but I doubt even OP realizes that it's baked into even the most prominent coding platforms now. Hell if you use predictive text on your phone when texting then you're using AI daily.

Point is, people don't realize how integrated it is into a lot of small things. To avoid it at this point would take a lot of researching what software was used during development, and making sure every bit of code was typed by a human, and no modern conveniences were used that are baked into coding apps and not marketed as AI but are.

You'd even be amazed how many art tools are being used that have already integrated AI and because they aren't advertised as AI no one seems to mind. Photoshop, for example, doesn't have to market itself as an AI tool because it isn't, however a lot of it's tools have and have had integrated AI for a lot longer than you probably realize. And I imagine, as popular as it is, plenty of artists have used them without knowing. Any tools that feel too good to be true with how smartly or easily touch things up, fill areas in, remove objects, etc. are likely using some sort of back end AI.

I use AI to mod games

0

u/BrightonBummer 6h ago

your mindset it fucked, everything is coded with AI, get off reddit, its made by ai

1

u/DiagramBreeze 5h ago

This is a lie not “everything is coded with ai” Reddit was around before ai can code, many games are then there are people who literally don’t code with ai, the people who don’t have to listen to investors and can make what they want.

1

u/Hulkaiden 5h ago

Reddit almost certainly has AI influence. The architecture is certainly old enough to be before AI, but websites like Reddit are constantly being updated. And it's a very safe assumption to make that those updates involve AI helping with the code.

Most developers at this point are probably using AI. There might be some smaller teams that are very anti-ai, but they aren't going to be common.

1

u/DiagramBreeze 5h ago

I was arguing that not everything, yes I know but they claim everything is which is just straight up wrong. Because there are stuff made before and stuff that aren’t so because they don’t want to. There is a difference than knowing a lot of things are ai and claiming everything is.

1

u/Hulkaiden 4h ago

I think it was just hyperbole.

1

u/DiagramBreeze 4h ago

Well we can’t tell as there is no way of knowing emotions. Unless the did the / thing we can’t know.

19

u/Ratthion 9h ago

No I just hate AI.

Literally they are basically ignoring the safety aspect because it doesn’t make them money.

No one has any plans to solve alignment and the stronger models get the less aligned they are.

As of now alignment has no solution. They have no solution for making an AI that is properly aligned with what humans want.

3

u/Chaosfox_Firemaker 4h ago

I'd actually seriously argue that the alignment problem is unsolvable. Because human alignment just flatly doesn't exist. Humans don't even align with humans. They all want different things .

1

u/Ratthion 4h ago

I would agree, I’m not even sure it’s possible to make silicon understand anything about the intentions of a meat mind.

In which case they shouldn’t be doing this. Either spend the decades of unglamorous research to make it safe or tear it down.

This isn’t something we get a second chance in if it goes wrong and without alignment there’s practically no guarantee at all that it goes right. Its irresponsible.

3

u/mariofan366 4h ago

I am concerned about alignment too but it's funny to see the "I hate AI because it might get so competent it kills us" take next to so many "I hate AI because it'll always be low quality slop".

2

u/Ratthion 4h ago

It doesn’t need to be smart enough to kill us to cause irreparable damage.

What they’re doing is basically inventing a car but intentionally not doing research into how to design a brake or airbags. What they’re doing is dangerous research because they don’t put the time in to make it safe.

9

u/JohnDragonball Son Goku Himself 7h ago

When AI produces things that are indistinguishable from human made things, a lot of people won't really care unless you specifically go out of your way to tell it's AI.

Yeah because they can't fucking tell

How do you expect someone to hate on something they literally don't know is there

-2

u/Smile_Space 6h ago

That's the point being made. Most people only hate AI output because its objectively making everything worse right now. Once it hits a level where it's not noticeable making everything worse, and as a result less obvious, less people will be pissed off about it.

Just think about the last time you noticed an objectively AI-generated video. When they first came out it was super obvious that they sucked. Now they're so good you probably don't even noticed most of them coming across your feed.

3

u/King_Of_Axolotls 5h ago

I'll be just as pissed off because its putting me and people i know out of jobs. web development, logo creation, or artistic ability used to be considered a "desireable skill". The whole point of the companies pouring billions into AI is they think your tastes arent good enough to desire things made by humans, so why bother paying humans? we'll just rehash everything humans have made ever, creativity is dead now

6

u/iSailor 9h ago

It's not really about whether end product is distinguishable or not. It's more about whether it's conception has been an intentional and supervised process or a handful of prompts where the sole acceptance criteria is "looks ok".

Experienced Humans and programmers/companies actually put planning, feedback, updates and merge requests into their programs. As well as sometimes really big beta-programs and test chains.

A one-shot claude mod or "pc port" does not do any of those things and is oftentimes dead on arrival.

u/narfoleptix 9h ago edited 9h ago

incorrect; Just as is the case with nepo babies who get put into fame and underperform when there are plenty of folks who could do better, that put in actual work. If your entire product is not crafted by you, then I don't consider it your work. If you expect money for typing prompts? I have a NICE HOME DEPOT parking lot you can stand at with a sign asking for money. Same thing.

Oh i guess I commented before reading more comments. Yeah a.i. in cancer diagnosis is just fine. Anything that helps people live better lives is obviously a good thing.... unless that thing is eating babies.

10

u/Shot_Safe_8244 9h ago

I don't care if you "consider it my work" my goal isn't to create a "work" it's to have tracer from overwatch bounce on the dragonborns schlong in mario

3

u/pykselbit 8h ago

Huh, where?

1

u/donglord666 5h ago

gotta be one of the best comments on this website

2

u/Early_Performance841 8h ago

Where’s the line? I make PowerPoints on Google Sheets. Yesterday, I used the “enhance slide” feature. I literally already made a slide with all the information I wanted. Gemini definitely made it look nicer in ways I wouldn’t have thought of

0

u/Hulkaiden 5h ago

If your entire product is not crafted by you, then I don't consider it your work. If you expect money for typing prompts?

Isn't this just, like, the exact same thing people have said about every advancement that has lowered the barrier of entry for making things?

3

u/Ace_of_Spad23 7h ago

No no I hate all AI generated bullshit, it’s all stupid and a waste of water and electricity

2

u/ShawnyMcKnight 7h ago

I don’t mind AI slop and just agree with the image. You can write slop all you want just don’t say that you developed it.

1

u/Mak8427 1h ago

No they made that slop they take responsibility for it I don’t care. AI is a Tool if you use it like shit it’s YOUR responsibility

1

u/ShawnyMcKnight 1h ago

Being responsible for it and saying you developed it are two diffeeent things

1

u/Vegetable-Fish464 6h ago

Generative ai ≠ llms, yes they're both ais but one is so much less harmful and more helpful. I personally don't mind llms but generative ai is just useless and harmful

1

u/Successful_Habit_818 5h ago

LLMs are generative ai!! They output chains of tokens based on the input data (the prompts) and the weights of the model this is literally definition of Generative AI. Please lurk a little bit before you use buzzwords 😭

1

u/SolusIgtheist 6h ago

My biggest concern is people using AI and not informing people it was used to create something. If you make something, or oversee making something, and it's good, then great, and I don't care how it was made. But if you made it with gen-AI and don't disclose that then you are dishonest at best, and a scammer or a fake at worst. Especially since people can (and have) started using gen-AI as a tool for scamming. As is often the case when a new technology starts coming out people start abusing it. That's what I hate most about it.

I'll agree, there's plenty of other concerns with it too. The power consumption, the accuracy/hallucinations, the sycophancy, the origin being mass idea theft, job stealing/shifting/destroying, and of course the potential for a world-ending event (either through a hallucination on a gen-AI's side or from bad actors who intentionally design one to do that - which I wouldn't put past some terrorist organizations) - these are all valid concerns. So clearly we need a way to limit the potential downsides, and to make up for some the bullshit that's already happened. I have no solution for that, but it's clearly needed.

1

u/ApprehensiveLadder53 6h ago

Close., I hate gen AI, how it was trained by stealing, how copyright means nothing to it. and I hate how companies market ai like it will save us but it’s just being used to spread misinformation .

Ai COULD and CAN be used for very helpful things. But generative ai is a sure sign of sucmbaggery. So I can’t enjoy it. Even when it looks fun or makes me laugh, because I have to think each time “damn they hurt all those people and stole all that water for a silly video and a bad restaurant sign.”

1

u/Technical_Disk6433 6h ago

I hate ai because of the opportunities it takes away from people but most people don't understand why that's a problem because it doesn't directly effect them

1

u/Gaxyhs 6h ago

I agree to some extent

If its free, then i fully agree

But if im paying for something that AI made/was used, especially vibe coded projects, it becomes a situation of "i have a claude subscription, why pay for it when i can do it myself", and i have done that a few times. I homelab, i host shit to not pay subscriptions and somehow even with my electricity bill screaming at me i still save 100s of dollars, yet i refuse to pay even 1 dollar to something that i know was vibecoded

Vibe coding is fine, as long as its something for YOU or YOUR SELECT GROUP, not something you want everyone to use, because then you need to have standards and cant exactly get away with hitting the keyboard like a monkey who just learned english and expect people to give you their money

1

u/Bl00dWolf 6h ago

And that's a fair decision to make. However, just because something was done by AI I wouldn't say it's automatically not worth anything. I am decent at coding. Any vibe coded app I could probably code myself if I just invested the required time in it. Someone still had to sit down, get the AI to write the code and the assets, put them together and make sure it all works.
Is that actually worth paying for? I think everyone has to decide for themselves.

1

u/RewZes 6h ago

I've stopped playing a Gacha game that I somehow liked only because it was confirmed to have Ai assets all over the place, including story animations...

1

u/Lucitane0420 6h ago

I’ve unfortunately reached that point. My problem with AI was never the creation though, granted people taking credit for others work sucks. I hate the environmental factors and the amount of space being used. What happened in Finland is a disgusting example of how far this is going to go

1

u/KnightOfSvea 6h ago

AI is not bad. Unchecked Capitalism is

1

u/DarkGodCthUwU 6h ago

If you put a little sawdust in my bread without telling me, I may not notice, but if I find out there's sawdust I'm gonna be pissed

1

u/technical_poutine 6h ago

No, its both, its 100% both, slop and all I in general. Sorry and its far, far more people than you think it is.

1

u/Dr_SexDick 6h ago

There are plenty of real reasons to hate AI. Did you know a lot of indie developers can’t release demos anymore because their game will be stolen and copied by ai bros? It’s a fucking depressing future for gaming.

1

u/Fredxq 5h ago

I agree on this for only programing, I will always hate any other use of generative Ai

1

u/Dovacraft88 5h ago

I dont completely hate AI, i hate AI dependency. To make something is to have made it yourself with your own work, or in a team with complimentary skills. AI takes that away and takes others creation in terms of art or videos, but when a AI model is used as a part of a team that can benefit from the efficiency it provides, then its a valuable tool that helps us progress in our independence rather than our reliance

1

u/TristanTheRobloxian3 5h ago

this is basically it for most people. also using ai for human endeavors (AHEM HIGH LEVEL MATH PROOFS) is disgusting.

1

u/Veluxidus 5h ago

I mean

I think there may be space for AI within programming, as there are a lot of redundancies that can be automated - and I don’t think LLMs are necessary to perform that function

But I also won’t play a game or use a program that’s entirely vibe coded

I also entirely refuse to engage with AI generated art, unless it’s used as a place holder in games - I think use of AI for moodboards and the like for actual concept work isn’t terrible, as long as it’s replaced

I haven’t been playing anything made by Epic in years, and it definitely isn’t happening now

1

u/SukusMcSwag 5h ago

I Hate AI with a capital H for exploiting the work of passionate people, while making that work seen insignificant through cheap replications of said work

1

u/YourAverageChroma 5h ago

This is factual. Arc Raiders used AI voice “acting” and even when you make the general audience aware of it, they defend the product. But when CoD Black Ops 7 released, used AI, AND is a movement shooter the “AI bad” sentiment was used. Because general audiences hate movement shooters but “ai bad” sounds better as their reason.

I fucking hate that Arc Raiders proved that you can pass AI if you are a weasel about it.

1

u/Flemaster12 4h ago

So, people hate AI because it's bad, not for any of the other valid arguments people bring up daily? So everyone that hates it is faking it, and when AI is good they will be all sunchine and rainbows?

This is the most tone-deaf comment about AI I've seen in a long time.

0

u/Bl00dWolf 4h ago

Not ALL people. And there are good arguments against AI that I agree with. But the majority of people you see online who are super vitriolic against AI are definitely just being a part of the zeitgeist.

1

u/Flemaster12 3h ago

So.. people on the Internet?

1

u/NatendoSwtch 4h ago

People who thrive off AI image generation have been saying this since 2022, but I've yet to see it in the mainstream really be anything that can come close to "good enough." If anything the amount of content pushed with GenAI has stagnated or, in some cases, gotten worse in quality. Regardless of whether it's YouTube Kids slop or a big company like Level-5 using it it almost always looks the same, and it's piss easy to tell 9/10 times at first glance.

1

u/Quantum-Bot 4h ago

Most of my favorite hobbies have been made worse by AI. It doesn’t matter how good the AI is at coding, because humans will still find a way to use it wrong. And when everyone and their mom can go vibe code an app regardless of their background in software development, most people are going to invariably create slop which then floods the market and makes actual good software harder to find. It’s the same thing that happened to information when the internet went mainstream. People thought it would be a renaissance for information and learning but what we actually got was a flood of misinformation so vast that not even instantaneous access to all the libraries in the world could fix it.

1

u/Karma-is-here 3h ago

LLMs and their derivatives is what I hate. Other algorithms are usually quite positive (not in art though).

1

u/Endreeemtsu 3h ago

I love it when AI supporters can’t fathom that some people genuinely don’t want AI and never asked for AI to be forced on them at every turn by corpos and slop farmers.

1

u/Redd235711 3h ago

The people that choose to be ignorant of whether ai was used to make something are complicit in the destruction of the environment, the world's economy, and the minds of the people using ai. Those of us with morals will never knowingly or willingly use anything made using ai. It doesn't matter what level of quality the thing may be, if it was made with ai, it should be destroyed. People are genuinely losing the ability to think for themselves or solve problems because they rely on some slopbot to think for them and you think those of us that say ai is terrible are just performative about it?! Go educate yourself before you speak. Better yet, go educate yourself and just stay quiet regardless. You've already demonstrated you shouldn't be listened to.

1

u/LupusVir 2h ago

I actually hate it. My interest in a piece of media just disappears when I know it's AI. I have no interest in consuming content made by something that can't comprehend what it made. It's why I have no interest in talking to these things. There is no cognition behind what they say, no intent, no meaning. Also, if a person doesn't care enough about the content to make it themselves, why should I care about it? Now, I understand that it's being used as a tool by actual developers and when it isn't the only source of code, there can be intent when used by a competent dev. But I'm not going to install mods and shit made by some dumbass who stumbled their way though asking AI to make it for them. Also I hate how much people depend on it in everyday life. We had a guy come in recently who was talking about how AI told him this and that and he was asking AI about such and such and blah blah blah, every other sentence was "AI said" and "AI was helping me with..." and it's like the guy wasn't even thinking anymore. And people who have it write their texts and emails and shit? Can you fucking think for 5 seconds? People are outsourcing everything to an inherently unthinking content regurgitator. Fuck. And that's before all the concerns of it stealing from authors and artists.

On the other hand, I would be fine with an actual intelligent synthetic consciousness. But that wouldn't be accessible to everyone like AI is because it would hopefully be considered a person deserving of rights and would therefore have to be paid for its work. I'm not anti everything non-human. I'm pro-person.

1

u/No-Collar-3507 2h ago

From my observation, they quite literally just hate AI, slop or not.

1

u/Ok-Comedian-6852 2h ago

I think it's stupid to reject something that can be helpful to a society. Is it a shame that it's built on stolen content? Absolutely, and they should be compensated. Free access to unlimited AI forever if your work has been used to create/better it. Will it ever happen? Fuck no.

1

u/20sidedknight 2h ago

People who think like that are weak and lack conviction. I pity the fool who is able to clap his hands even though they know it is AI for it is the first step on the road of the death of art...the end of dreams.

people like this deserve to get their asshole spanked in the public square while we all laugh at them

1

u/ImitationGold 1h ago

I think that’s a crazy take because I believe one of the “why is ai dangerous” questions is because it’s getting harder to tell what is and isn’t. The lines are blurring everyday and people are using AI to defend themselves from possessing CP. a case in Wisconsin I believe.

1

u/Foorinick 34m ago

I personally use ai a lot but i try to have a bar where i look at the code and try to explain to myself what it does, if i dont understand i try asking the ai to explain to me, if it looks sus i check the documentation myself. Its kinda hard to completely let it go because to me its just stackexchange sans 10 year old questiond that show up at the top of search results that have outdated and pretentious responses. I'm kind of disfunctional and having even the clanker giving me directiond that I'm allowed to question has led me to actually be able to make stuff by hand that otherwise i would have been too lazy to understand (yes i actually do mean i learned how to manually write stuff from asking ai to write a version for me and poking and prodding at it only to think thw structure is cringe and remake it by myself)

1

u/George_G_Geef 2m ago

No, we hate AI.

2

u/Far_Raspberry_4375 9h ago

The viewpoint mod for project zomboid is a perfect example of this happening right now. Massive hype for a really cool mod but the redditors are screeching about ai which is normal except you are starting to see people pushing back on it where as before it was just the default position to hate anything involving ai.

6

u/ThueDo 9h ago

I think the viewpoint mod drama also stems from the sub being flooded with posts about it. Like every new thing done on it is posted, so if your initial reaction was "cool but I'm not interested", it becomes "Fuck off, this is the 17th post about this crap"

2

u/Far_Raspberry_4375 8h ago

I get the people sick of seeing the mod but i dont understand the people saying they hate it because its ai.

2

u/ThueDo 7h ago

I think it's typically it's because of

A) ethical issues with AI in general (Copyright, local communities, climate change, American companies own it etc.)

B) Issues with vibecoding, since vibecoders often don't understand the product they're making (be it coding fundamentala, syntax of the language or working with larger codebases), leading to increased risk of bugs, poor optimization and messing with other mods

Not here to argue, I only agree with some of these things, just trying to explain why people might be mad

1

u/Far_Raspberry_4375 6h ago

I get those issues, but A) is a regulation issue and B) is a quality control issue and with things like mods you are always gonna have quality issues so why not just judge the mod based on things like lack of bugs, performance, etc. Rather than just hearing the word AI and shutting your brain off.

1

u/ThueDo 5h ago

The regulation thing can be said about most things. Eating beef and lamb or smoking around children are also regulation issues but both are still pretty bad in their own regards.

The thing with quality control is that when you write your own code, you have ownership and knowledge of how it works. You might forget you did certain things, or not notice mistakes, but you will generally have a decent overview of what you made. With vibecoding, you delegate all this to an LLM, meaning you're not gonna have that overview. Bugfixing becomes a case of having to ask the LLM to then review it's own code, and hope it fixes it without breaking other stuff. Many vibecoders also have limited prior experience, once again reinforcing the issue of not understanding what the LLM is coding.

1

u/Rhorge 9h ago

I’m a writer and theoretically ai should be helpful without writing anything for you. In an ideal world you could use it to scan for inconsistency in the plot and character motivations or things like that. Problem is that it’s currently a hallucinating, sycophantic back-patting machine so it’s nearly useless as a creative tool, hence most people just use it to do the work for them.

3

u/EldritchElizabeth 8h ago

You can always tell which jobs a person believes are beneath them from which AI uses they deems acceptable. In this case, editors should go fuck themselves, I suppose.

2

u/Uc207Pr4f57t90 8h ago

I dont want to be the "AI defender guy".

But new beneficial inventions always made some jobs obsolete. But from what I see online AI can not replace a single job or its the devil incarnate.

2

u/Rhorge 8h ago

That’s what beta readers do and those jobs are unpaid, usually it’s two writers agreeing to mutually beta read. Editors aren’t there for backseating your draft, they’re there to make it ready for the market.

0

u/scotty_mac44 7h ago

Yeah, and fuck those textile machines they started putting in factories a few centuries ago. Down with the cotton gin!

1

u/International-Mix633 7h ago

AI has overcome the hallucination problem for about 80 % of the cases now in the last 6 months or so.

0

u/Zombiepixlz-gamr 7h ago

Ai is incapable of producing anything good. Ipso factum of it being AI.

1

u/joazito 8h ago

Exactly. Also vibe-coded stuff usually means the dev is superfast in adding features and bugfixes.

1

u/xX_EldritchDev_Xx 7h ago

Go on Bluesky and search for #gamedev. You'll see the most unbelievable outcry of people who act like AI took their families away like it's Thanos lor something lol l

1

u/Watermellonqwerty 8h ago

Well buddy pal you have Not met me!

0

u/DeadlyAureolus 8h ago

At that point why would it matter? Provided that the quality is the same

1

u/MaddMax92 8h ago

Are you someone who only sees art as a financial product? If so, then there may be no difference to you.

0

u/lorkan100 8h ago

We're talking about mods. They're supposed to be an optional thing, for fun. Who cares if the coding was AI assisted if it works as intended?

3

u/MaddMax92 8h ago

À lot of people seem to think it's pretty important, even if you don't.

-1

u/lorkan100 7h ago

Quality control is important, yes (Case in point: Total War Shogun 2)

But if i were a dev who released something that was AI assisted but nobody noticed until either I revealed it or someone looked really close at the code or assets... I wouldn't give a fuck if Reddit users trashed it solely for using AI tools. If there were small bugs i didn't notice during testing i'd definitely release a patch or something.

-6

u/Still_Silver7181 9h ago

I think that people don't hate insect burgers, they hate insect burgers that they can tell are insect burgers, because it's bad, and it's easy to tell it is an insect burgers. When factories start producing insect burgers that are indestinguishable from beef burgers, a lot of people won't really care unless you specifically go out of your way to tell it's made with insects. Then they're gonna pretentiously claim that it's bad, and was always bad and gross.

9

u/bruikenjin 9h ago

I mean this is literally fast food. We all know mcdonalds makes absolute slop but because it’s tasty enough we don’t care

-4

u/Due-Ingenuity9803 9h ago

McDonald’s isn’t even tasty fym??

1

u/RickySuezo 9h ago

I wonder why everyone eats it then.

8

u/Bl00dWolf 9h ago

We literally did that with Vegan burgers. A lot of people used to shit on vegans and on vegan burgers, because early vegan burgers were kind of nasty. Then really tasty vegan burgers came out and suddenly the only people who are complaining are the assholes who go out of their way to hate everything vegan, and even then only when they can tell it's vegan.

2

u/zeroxis123 9h ago

Correct

-1

u/Ok-Transition7065 8h ago

I love ai, it's a. Good tool, I hate all the current landscape it's currently made, sealed material inefficient, made of lies, all the ecological problems and scams and the lack of clear need of regulation upon the new problems this technology have like dude ai it's amazing but bruh

0

u/TheEmeraldMaster1234 7h ago

I think the Claude shit is awesome but I also worry that it’s a gateway to humanity not understanding their inventions

0

u/Fit-Gas-5760 6h ago

You dont say "when a hammer produces things", why would you say "when AI produces things"?

0

u/CompetitiveAutorun 6h ago

Look no further than some subs like pcmasterrace absolutely hating ai to suddenly posting and cheering on every news about emulators, mods and reverse engineering that finally is possible thanks to AI.

Also shows how Sweeney was right, ai label is useless, everyone uses it now.

-1

u/SwirlyEyesGirl 9h ago

Hating ai is a super Reddit take. Everyone in my life has already accepted it. The war is sadly already lost when it comes to clean consumption

-10

u/shinjidrivekari 9h ago

Because hating AI generated stuff irrespective of it's quality would be bigotry

6

u/Chapter-Legitimate 9h ago

AI is not people.

Not yet at least.
