Hello guys,
Recently there has been an increase in posts offering to trade, give-away, or sell various programs, vert increase being the most common.
Announcing that these threads are not welcome and will be removed (as it has been lately), and spam will result in suspension from this sub.
The reasons behind it:
This is a place to share tips regarding basketball and not a trading platform.
Security: be aware, as you are giving away your e-mail or other personal information to the person you don't know.
Security again: there have been dodgy threads with dodgy links removed. I'm sure some of the people are genuine, but with this trend came scams.
Spam. I noticed there is a number of people and if you check their profiles - the threads have been spammed all over Reddit and multiple times - refer to points #2 and #3.
Finally, all these programs are available online with a little bit of Googling, if you decide that paying to the creator is not an option. It is not some rare commodity. You don't have to give up your information.
I hope this is clear and welcome by the users of this sub-reddit. Keep on sharing your tips, original content, asking questions and looking for help. There are a lot of amazing people here.

Hi, I need advice on how to split my gym and hoop days while still having time to recover. I am currently doing a 2 upper/lower days(4 days total) then hooping for the next 3 days straight. I feel like this might be excessive especially for my knees, bcz even tho im still a teen, I feel like this might be bad long term. What do u guys think? I was thinking abt keeping the 3 hooping days, and reducing my gym days to 3 days/week, where i alternate between 2 upper and 1 lower day, then doing 2 lower and 1 upper the next week... Thus having 1 rest day.
(Note: most if not all of my knee strain comes after hooping)

I play both indoor and outdoor courts, the indoor courts get dusty sometimes, I have wide feet(as in curry soalsh 24 or two wxy v5 2e wide), I play mostly defender with a little shooting, I have to do quick movements, I prefer low tops or medium tops, I like breavability and cusioning, I don't like my shoes being creased so I prefer mesh and other anti-crease materials, I am open to any brand in the world, I want good traction, I am ok with getting used or refurbished shoes from reputable websites like eBay, my budget is $90 but perfer something more around $50 to $80, I like darker color ways and nothing too bright, I have a wide toe box and wide forefoot and wide midfoot, in new balance basketball I am size 8.5 2e, in curry splash 24 I am size 9, in kd 15 I am size 9 but my feet are growing so i want to half a size up for any shoe I get.
The shoes I have tried are the
1.Nike Jordan 13s(bad ventilation and easily creased and was not durable and was not the widest)
2.Nike KD 15(too tight on the toe box but the breathability and cushioning was very good)
3.New Balance Two Wxy v5 2e(Cushioning was ok and so was breathability and also the creasing was pretty bad but the traction was elite)
4.Under Armor Curry Splash 24(my favorite on this list but traction was ok and dust and dirt were a problem)
Any suggestions?

Definitely a travel. I don't want to hear about no gather step. I don't want to hear about FIBA rules. This is a walk.

I was just watching my latest game and I realized I am way too accelerated in games, and its actually messing with everything. Especially on offense, where for example I shot an airball because I was very nervous when I get the ball in my hands.
How tf do I get over my acceleration, chill tf out calm my nerves and anxiety? Its like everytime I get the ball on offense I just want to pass quick to get rid of it idk wtf is happening. Also, in trainings it doesnt happen to me even tho I take them very seriously as well. I know I can attack these guys but I get way too nervous in games with everyone watching , Im afraid to make mistakes. Wtf do I do?

Hey everyone, 25yo lifelong hooper here and I’m looking to connect with someone who wants to help each other get better at basketball. I’ve always only ever been self taught but ironically self teaching’s always been the end of me lol so I could really use the structure and support. I would really appreciate having someone around to just help keep me in line, to share and discuss drills, tips, and structure with each other and help maintain consistency and motivation… I’ve got an endless supply of drills saved on my phone covering pretty much all the fundamentals in basketball, so I just need to put it all together and consistently put in the work. I just really want to finally breakthrough and reach my potential at the recreational level after all these years. And of course as a bonus, I would love to get to meet fellow hoopers on here and just make some more friends too :) So yeah, anyone interested please send me a message or leave a comment!

hi all, the gym below my apartment has limited equipment when it comes to hitting legs. It has a leg extension machine and dumbells, along with a few benches that I can use. What are some good exercises I can do with that? I’m primarily a 2 foot jumper and need a good combination of strength work + plyometrics that I can use for a lower day (used to do push pull no legs, shameless, want to switch to upper lower)

I feel like people have no idea how it works and why it exists, so I'm going to clear it up.
In basketball you are allowed to take two steps in order to control your momentum when you are going for a layup. The two steps only count after you fully gather and pick up the ball. NOT WHEN THE DRIBBLE IS STILL LIVE. If this didn't exist your layup would get blocked all the time since you would have to completely stop before shooting the layup. When you are taking the two steps you are allowed to completely stop.
When you completely stop you are allowed to shoot the ball or pass the ball. In order to shoot the ball you naturally have to plant the your pivot which counts as a step. So because of this you can do a step through, since you already have to take a "step" anyways so might as well get yourself to the most ideal spot with that step.
Now the gather step exists because sometimes when you are about to pick up the ball, you are in an awkward position(one of your feet is still in the air), so you have no control over the ball. So the rules allow you to "gather" and gain control and plant your foot down before you start to count the steps.
In the Hugo Gonzalez clip, he stutters steps, which DOESN'T end his dribble so you don't count his steps. If you could only step once per dribble everyone would be playing at the same exact speed, which would make offense too easy to predict. He didn't pick up his dribble/ball kept rotating in his hand so his dribble didn't officially end.
When the ball stops moving/rotating that is when his dribble officially stops. Dribbling after the ball stops rotating/moving would be a double dribble or a carry. After the ball stops rotating, Hugo is in an awkward position(one of his feet is off the ground). The rules allow him to plant that foot before counting his steps(aka a gather). So after he does his gather, he takes two steps for the layup.

I hadn't washed mine for 8 months, and decided to finally do it because it had a really bad odor.
But I gotta be honest, I regretted this decision immediately. It was just slippery and slimey afterward, and I wasn't able to handle it as well.
Idk, I just couldn't shoot it that day.
And tbh, it smells even worse now.

(Sorry if the video isn't that clear I don't have a lot of spots where I can record so I had to improv.)
Like I stated, I'm not very good at dribbling. I assume because my athletic background isn't much to note as I started taking more of an interest in basketball in late 2025. It feels no matter how many times I try to practice I can't seem to sense any improvement and I feel I'm stuck in purgatory with it. I would love any advice on my stance, hand placement, and any other overall tips I can use to finally feel confident in dribbling. Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for a ball for the concrete outfield. Long-term use is important. Which one would be best if I buy it?
- Wilson NBA DRV 7
- Wilson MVP
- Wilson NCAA Era
- Wilson NBA Team Tribute Balls

For people working toward a first dunk: how do you decide whether your next focus should be your takeoff technique or your training program?
I'm researching a possible app, not offering a program for sale. The idea is to enter your measurements, current training and equipment, choose the takeoff you want to improve (left/right one-foot or two-foot), and film your current max jump. It would give feedback on visible technique and combine that with basic performance tests to suggest a training focus. Then you'd get exercises and a schedule matched to the equipment you actually have, and re-test to update it.
I'm unsure whether that would be genuinely useful or just another app giving a jump score and a generic workout. A video alone can't establish which muscle is weak, so I wouldn't want it pretending to know that.
If you've tried a paid jump app, program or coach, what did it fail to help you with? Would personalized video feedback plus an equipment-based plan be worth paying for, or is there something more important this idea is missing?
