Mourning/Loss Just wanted you all to know her

Post image
• Upvotes

A few years ago I posted in this sub about a cat loss, and everyone’s messages helped me heal so much (even if they also made me sob). I eventually adopted another cat, Cora, who I’ve had for a year. 10 or so weeks ago we rescued a kitten here, that my mom found outside. She completely changed our lives. She was so sweet, so so smart, so gentle and funny. She was intuitive. She was snuggly and perfect. She mimicked our kisses by biting our lips or noses. She would lay with one of us for 3 minutes or so before running to the other and then repeat.

When my mom found her, she bottle fed her because she was abandoned by her mom. I mean her eyes weren’t even open. We took her in when she could live off of cat food as her main food source and it was genuinely love at first sight. She never cried because she missed my moms, she just immediately knew we were her people. My other cat, Cora, loved her wholeheartedly. She bathed her all the time. Our dog, Alfred, was so gentle and loved her as much as she loved him. She was our glue.

She got sick with pneumonia, then recovered. We did a round of vaccines. A round of boosters. She got sick again, we were so confident she would recover because she did before. She was a fighter in ways you can’t understand. She had insurance so we spared no expenses. She was hospitalized and the vets were so confident. She was eating and drinking. Alert. We were waiting on send out labs for further treatment. But she crashed a few days in. She didn’t make it. We’ve sent her for necropsy just to ensure our other cat is safe, but the wound is so gaping.

I miss her more than I can explain here. It helped me before to speak about my cat I lost here. So I’m just looking for your kind words again. My heart feels empty, I didn’t realize how full she made it. Our sweet baby, 16 weeks old, gone far too soon. So Reddit, I just wanted you to meet Pip. Loved beyond measure, beyond time.

Ramona was one of 17 rescued from a dodgy situation. Selkirk Rex breeder passed away and whoever “cared” for them after she passed should be jailed.
All of them balding from fleas, bloodied, eye and ear infections etc.

Ramona took a turn for the worst with coccidia and worms, she’s been hospitalized for about 4 days :(
Iv fluids and needs a blood transfusion.
Life is so unfair. She is 2-3 years old and has broken canines, is only 4 lbs, and has low blood sugar.

Think of her and send her good vibes, they had to shave her and bathe her and all of her feet bled from then being raw underneath.
Terrified to know what this vet bill will look like but she’s gotta live. Shes fighting !

Update : just saw that the estimate bill is like $1600 and that’s employee pricing… 🫠🫠🫠🫠 pre blood transfusion.

We lost Tom today, and I’m just devastated. I know it’ll get better but I just wanted to share a few pics of the big lummox of a cat that has brightened our home for the last 9 years.

He was massive, a Maine Coon, and had a personality even bigger than his size. He seemed to say human words (“hellooo”) and was the best companion cat I’ve ever known. I now understand why Maine Coons are known as the dogs of the cat world. He befriended my 5 year old son (now 14) on his first day with us, and they were inseparable ever since. My heart aches for my son today 💔

The world is a worse place for his loss, but I’m going to try to be glad we knew him rather than sad we lost him.

We weren’t worried that he didn’t come home this morning, as he was always an explorer, but then saw a Facebook post about a cat on the side of a nearby road. Thankfully I got there just before the council arrived to take him away, and I was at least able to say goodbye to him.

Note: I know there’s often a discussion about keeping cats confined to the house (which I think is largely a UK/US divide), but please be respectful when commenting, and know that this particular cat could never have been confined to the indoors - he lived life to the full, and I’m glad for that.

It was only a couple weeks ago that we lost our 2-year-old tabby, Duke Clawde Hissybritches, and I didn't really think I was ready for a while, but the Cat Distribution System has seemingly decided it was time for the mourning to end and a new chapter to begin.

I'm happy to introduce Jack o' Lantern (Jack for short) and Voodoo Fitts, who were found by a family member's coworker's neighbor. Said neighbor is afraid of cats (dunno why you'd be afraid of such tiny angels), so the coworker took them in, either to give them to the pound the next day or to give them away.

My family member was the one who was told about these cutie patooties, and we went to grab them that afternoon.

Jack is the Orange Gentleman, and the artist formerly known as Pumpkin until a little extra discussion got us a more festive name. In what must be typical Orange fashion, he's a little lunatic, and weirdly interested in eating his sibling's booty, despite us giving them a bath to clean them up.

Mr. Hissy Fitts, then rechristened Voodoo thanks to Big Bad Voodoo Daddy being on in the car, is the chiller of the brothers, though he was the more vocal about strangers reaching out to touch his tiny, adorable body with their comparatively giant hands, thus the original name.

Both have good appetites, only really old enough to eat soft food. We offered them a bottle but they didn't seem to dig the idea, so Mama Fitts must have weaned them.

They've only been with us a night and half a day so far, but they respond well to us and the dogs (the dogs themselves seeming happy with these new family members), and I wanted to officially welcome them in a more visible sense.

TL;DR: Please welcome the very handsome Jack o' Lantern and the illustrious Mr. Voodoo Fitts!

Mourning/Loss This is Rocky. He lived. Time is devastating.

It’s been one year after his rainbow crossing, and I’m devastated. Time shouldn’t go this fast. It feels like just yesterday we had to say goodbye.
He was 11, I had him 7 years, and it wasn’t nearly long enough.
I met him visiting my best friend at his girlfriend’s apartment. She had 3 cats & a dog.
I sat down and one of the cats immediately presented himself, they said “This one is Rocky.” He was super friendly, he started rubbing himself on my pants and head butting my hand. My roommate had a sweet loveable cat, so I was familiar with cats wanting their scent on you. Then to my best friend & his girlfriends utter shock, he jumped on my lap. They said “You don’t know how big of a deal this is, he NEVER gets on anyone’s lap. He must really like you.” I replied quoting one of my favorite anime, “A good hunter is well liked by animals.”-(Hunter X Hunter.) And I spent my couple hours there petting the new friend on my lap, while he purred & head butted my hand and face. I already felt a deep connection with this cat. He was so sweet and friendly, I told his momma, if there’s ever any reason you need to let him go, please tell me and I’ll come get him right away.
Fast forward a couple months, I received a message from her, letting me know they were moving across the country. “I know my best friend told me, I’m happy for you guys and wish you guys the best.”
Then she said that she can’t keep 3 cats in a car for a week while moving across the country, and asked one of the questions that changed my life, “are you still interested in keeping Rocky?”
I told her yes I am, and she added the stipulation, “I’ll give you Rocky, only if you can also take Nicki, they’re a bonded pair and need to stay together.”
I caught a glimpse of shy anxious girl Nicki the night I met Rocky. All I saw of her was a fluff ball mid air jumping over the gate to the bedroom that was dividing the bedroom from the living room.
I wanted Rocky so bad, I said yes to keeping Nicki too.
I drove 2 hours from my place back to their apartment, and she had them in cat carriers. She said goodbye to them, and I promised her I would do everything I can to make sure they have a good home. And drove 2 hours back to my apartment, with 2 cats meowing the entire ride.
I got back to my shared apartment, went to my room and opened the carriers.
Rocky immediately got out, sniffed me, headbutt my hand, & started exploring his new room. While I was staring at Rocky explore, I caught a glimpse of a familiar fluff ball dart from the carrier to underneath the bed. I shone my phone flashlight under the bed, and saw the prettiest little fluff ball I’d ever seen, anxious beautiful little Nicki.
My life had immediately changed for the better having been gifted these 2.
The next 7 years were filled of Rocky greeting me at the door every day, trying to sneak outside like Houdini, talk my ears off (he was such a vocal talkative baby boy,) head butt me every chance he had, playing with toys, buying cat trees, kisses, cuddling next to me (as they informed when I met him, he RARELY gets on people,) and every once in a blue moon sitting on my lap/chest. While Nicki his anxious sister/wife (not sure which) waits in her safe space (the room,) for food, hunting (playing,) and cuddles (on my chest specifically.)

His final year, I took him to the vet because we noticed he was losing weight. I thought it was because we changed his diet from free feeding dry food, to wet cat food 3x per day. I truly was in denial he could be sick. When I finally accepted he had lost more weight than just a change of diet, I took him to get checked. Vet said all his blood work was normal, which relieved me. But scheduled a biopsy because she did think something might be wrong, and a little while later the results came, she informed me he had Lymphoma. I was in disbelief. I always joked about him living to 130 with me. I thought I would have much more time with him.
All I could do to help with limited funds, was change his diet again to limited ingredient wet cat food and a lickable high calorie sachet packet, which helped, he was able to digest & have normal poops. Those final months he was not okay, he would throw up bile regularly, and pee in the bed fairly often. Being in his final months I topped his cat food with boiled & shredded tilapia. He LOVED it.
He never lost his appetite after I changed his food to limited ingredient wet food, high calorie sachet & topped it with tilapia. I was happy he was still eating & eating a lot.
But that didn’t change that, he was still getting skinnier and weaker. He stopped climbing the cat trees, and eventually got so tired he stopped greeting me at the door. He could barely jump on the couch to cuddle next to me anymore.
At a certain point, I knew he was telling me, it was his time. I made the appointment. We spent his last week talking him outside to the park, he loved rolling in the grass, making his favorite food, and cuddling as much as possible. His last day, we had him say goodbye to Nicki. I feel like she had known he was sick, and nearing his end. And took him to the vet.
He spent his last moments eating his favorite food, and crossed the rainbow bridge with a belly full of tilapia, Koha cat food, high calorie sachet, and churu.
We left the vet, and my world was shattered. My bestest buddy, my partner in crime, my baby boy was gone.
It was hardest those first few months, opening the door, and him not being there to greet me with his meows telling me about his day. Not being next to me & following me everywhere I go.
I can’t believe it’s been a year already.
Thank you for being the best friend, and the bestest boy I could ever have wished for.
I miss you, and will miss you always and forever Rock, Rockaflock, Rockarock, flockarock, Rockaford Wellington III, ASAP Rocky.
We’ll continue to watch over Nicki for you, & give her the best life with all the cuddles she could ever wish for.

Mourning/Loss Good bye my friend

Post image
453 Upvotes

Hi Guys, sorry for sharing this but I have to, because no one in my close family or friends owned a pet so they don't know how I feel.

Yesterday I had to say good bye to my best friend of 7 years. Last year was tough for both of us. We were fighting cancer. But lately even treatments couldn't help anymore, so I decided to say good bye.

Yesterday in the evening I looked at this picture for 30min and cried. I felt guilt, the way he looks at me, like I didn't do enough for him, even if I know that he felt safe with me.

That's it. Thanks for everyone that will take a minute and read this.

My sweet sweet boy died two days ago.

We found him today in the swimming pond of our neighbors.

He only got to become 5 years old, always scared of everything and didn't trust strangers, but loved the ones who he knew.

An appeal to all, make your pools and ponds safer and build a ramp. It may not make a difference, but atleast they get a chance.

Burying him was one of the hardest things I had to do in the 27 years im alive.

Advice Why does my cat act differently when my boyfriend is home?

Thumbnail

so a little over a month ago me and my boyfriend moved in together and since then i’ve noticed a behavior pattern. my bf leaves for the weekend for work and while he is away when i come home my cat greets me looking for affection and stays close by me. if my bf is home and i come home my cat doesn’t greet me or ask for affection. my cat interacts with my bf while i’m away and all that they’re cool and like each other but i’m confused as to why when we’re together he doesn’t interact with either of us? before it’s asked i absolutely do not believe he is mistreating my cat while i am away at all, he sends pic of them chilling together often and my cat shows no signs of being afraid of approaching him or being around him.

I couldn’t get a better picture than these with one hand. My cheddar boy seems like he is going to lose this tooth. It seems separated and loose from the other ones and the gums seem slightly red around that tooth. Should I be concerned? Is it normal for cats to lose their little teeth?

my dad buddy went fishing like 2-3 weekend ago and found these babies tied up in a trash bag and left at the lake.
They still had closed eyes and folded ears. it’s absolutely disgusting that someone can be so fucking cruel towards an animal.

also i love the little girls grey, orange, and white coats. it’s so adorable!

Mourning/Loss Had to put down my best friend last night

Thumbnail
gallery
2.7k Upvotes

i knew it would be happening soon, i just didn’t expect it to be so sudden. 6 months ago we found fluid around his heart after he had a panting episode. he already had stage three chronic kidney disease, and now the beginning of heart failure. i was told he has less than a year. they drained it, and he got out on medication. he has been stable.

but last night the same panting episode happened again and he lost control of his bowels. we went to the er vet and the fluid was just. everywhere in his chest. worse than it was 6 months ago.

i wanted to drain it again, have some more time, but with how bad it was there was not telling if the fluid would be back in just a few hours. so i made the hardest decision of my life to let him go

i was able to hold him the entire time. i felt him leave. he was my best friend for almost 19 years . i’ve never felt loss on this scale before and i don’t know what to do.

up until last night he was eating regularly and playing and being his best self. it was so sudden , but at least it happened when i was here and not when i was at work. at least he wasn’t alone

i hope you’re resting easy Mista Kitty. I will always love you

Mourning/Loss Last time goodbye bella

My little Bella passed away yesterday, and her brother Garfield is missing 💔🐾
Yesterday, while I was at school, our sweet little Bella was hit by a car. She was only around 4–5 months old. She was still just a baby, and it hurts so much that she’s gone.
The first photo is Bella when we found her. The second photo is her just one day before, when she was still here with us. I can’t believe how quickly everything changed. She deserved so much more time. 🥺
The third photo is her brother, Garfield. He went missing two days ago, and we still haven’t found him. I’m so worried about him, especially after what happened to Bella. They were both so young.I hope we can find him soon.
Rest peacefully, my little Bella. You were loved, and you will never be forgotten. 🤍🤧

Mourning/Loss Goodbye to my sweet old girl

Thumbnail

2.0k Upvotes

Yesterday we said goodbye to our sweet Mad Eye. She was 18, and lived with us for almost 10 years exactly. No one who met Mad Eye could help but love her. She was the most affectionate cat I’ve ever met. On the day we met her at her foster home, she jumped into my arms and insisted on being held like a baby, and she did it every day of the next decade until this last week, when she was too tired to jump anymore. Even still, yesterday morning, I picked her up to snuggle and she purred away like it was the best day of her life, even though she’d barely eaten in two days. She was with us through COVID, surgeries, illnesses, two moves, and so much more. She slept on my pillow and joined all of my meetings, and she screamed at us whenever we got home, whether it had been two weeks or twenty minutes, because she wanted us beside her always. I genuinely don’t know what we’ll do without her, but I don’t regret a thing. Rest in peace, my sweet girl. We’ll see you on the other side.
