(Franz) Kaczka

We're getting ducks and I want to use Kaczka as a pun. Obviously Franz is a masculine name, and Kaczka is feminine. Looking for a feminine version of Franz to make a bit more sense.

I'm aware Franz is a german name, and Kafka was german! I just think having a Franz(f) Kaczka would be adorable. And no, nobody would understand the joke other than me.

Need opinion on Sopot University of Applied Sciences

Anyone herecompletede their education from Sopot University of Applied Sciences? Especially an MSc in Accounting with ACCA? I am planning to do my master's here in this program, and this is the lowest the program fees for the ACCA Program cost compared to other universities for a non-EU candidate

I missed my Winter intake due to visa appointment dates, and I have decided to go for the summer intake. I have this university and Vistula University in Warsaw. I know people say private unis are Mills unless u learn on your own,

U can share ur opinion on this UNI or the program, any opinion might help me to understand, i have researched that SOPT is expensive, so im planning to take dorm either in Gdansk or Gydnia,

Dzkujie in advance

Expat who nearly drowned in Polish bureaucracy, what still trips people up when moving / settling here?

Hi!

I’m an expat who moved to Poland and honestly found the “where do I even start?” part harder than the move itself.

Between PESEL, meldunek, residence, NFZ, taxes, housing contracts, and city-specific quirks, I spent way too long bouncing between Gov.pl, Facebook groups, outdated blog posts, and conflicting advice. Some of it was fine once I knew the right term; a lot of it was “you had to already know what to Google.”

I’m trying to understand whether this is just me, or still a common pain, and what people need help with right now.

If you’ve moved here (or helped someone who did), I’d love a few concrete answers:

  1. What was the single most confusing step for you (or the one that wasted the most time)?
  2. What do you still struggle to find clear info on today: documents, housing, work/taxes, healthcare, schools, city offices, something else?
  3. When you needed a human (translator, lawyer, accountant, relocation help, etc.), was it hard to find someone trustworthy, or was the hard part knowing what to ask them?
  4. Which sources actually helped (official sites, groups, friends, paid help)? Which ones wasted your time?

I’m not selling anything in this thread. I’m an expat who got frustrated by the information maze and I’m figuring out whether a clearer, practical “what to do / by when / what’s official vs paid help” resource would actually be useful, so real stories matter more than opinions about apps.

Thanks.

Bit of a random post, but could anyone help me with travel anxiety?

Hi all, I'm a native Brit and my father married a wonderful polish woman a few years ago. They spend half their time in Poland and the remainder of the year in Britain. His plan (I believe) was to live in Poland full time but I'm unsure what's going on with that.

Anyway, he loves the country, loves his wife, loves their house, and desperately wants to share that with me. Unfortunately he can't take me as he drives back and forth between our two countries and his van only has room for two people as he converted the back.

They live in ustron, but aside from that I know NOTHING about Poland. I was wondering if anyone could give me any travel insights that may help me get over my anxiety and visit your beautiful country.

many thanks 🙏

Erasmus University of Wrocław

Hey! I'm coming to UWr for Erasmus in February 2027 and wanted to ask a few things.

How hard is it to get a dorm room? And how strict is the uni with Erasmus students? Are attendance and exams a big deal, or is it generally chill?

I'm kinda worried about how everything will go, so I'd really appreciate any advice or personal experiences

Parents raised objections to the content about in vitro in the religion textbook for seventh graders - informs TOK FM. The OliEdu Civic Education Foundation has asked the Ministry of National Education for an opinion and wants to withdraw the book from schools. Its representative Ewa Daros said that the students are to justify a negative assessment of this method of fertilization.

Do all Italian restaurants in Poland supply their cannoli from Biedronka?

I swear I've had cannoli from 3 different Italian restaurants in Dolnośląskie so far and they are always the same ones you can find in Biedronka. What's up with that? Is my theory founded or am I going insane?

Polish car dealer refusing €2,100 VAT refund after export outside EU — is the 3-month deadline real, and can I still recover my money?

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone familiar with Polish VAT rules or car exports can help me recover €2,100 from a Polish dealership.
In November 2025, my brother bought a VW for export to Algeria. The dealer charged €9,000 + €2,100 VAT security deposit, so I transferred €11,100 in total.
Here’s the timeline:

- November 2025: The dealer issued an invoice for €9,000 with 0% VAT, despite collecting €11,100. They explained: “Kaucja za VAT będzie wynosić 2100€” (€2,100 VAT deposit).
- December 2025: They confirmed in writing: “Kaucja jest zwrotna po wywozie pojazdu poza UE” (the deposit is refundable after export outside the EU). They also explained: “Nie możemy wystawić faktury brutto, ponieważ kaucja jest środkiem zwrotnym” (they couldn’t issue a VAT-inclusive invoice because the deposit was refundable).
- January 2026: The vehicle was exported via France to Algeria and cleared customs, less than three months after purchase.
- March–September: We repeatedly followed up and submitted the requested export documents, including EX1.
- October 2026: The dealer finally confirmed: “Sprawdziliśmy wszystkie dokumenty, wszystko jak najbardziej pasuje, pieniądze będą na waszym koncie do 7 dni” (all documents checked and accepted, refund within seven days).

Then, the very next day, they reversed their decision, stating:
“Termin 3 miesięcy na jej rozliczenie już dawno minął, a podatek VAT został przez nas opłacony. W związku z tym nie ma już możliwości zwrotu tej kwoty.”
Translation: The three-month deadline for settling the deposit has passed, VAT has already been paid, and they can no longer refund it.

My questions:

- Is there actually a 3-month deadline under Polish VAT law for providing export documents or reclaiming VAT on a car exported outside the EU? Or could this be an internal dealership policy?
- If the dealer already paid VAT to the Polish tax office, can they still amend their VAT return after receiving export documents and refund me?
Given that the invoice shows 0% VAT and the €2,100 was separately classified as refundable security, does that change how the refund should be handled?
- What’s the most practical way to recover the €2,100 now? Should I contact a Polish tax adviser, send a formal payment demand (wezwanie do zapłaty), or pursue another procedure?
I’m based in the Netherlands and can travel to Poland if necessary, but I’d prefer to resolve this without spending thousands on legal fees.

I’m not looking to name and shame the dealership. I just want my money back.
If anyone has dealt with a similar situation, particularly a late VAT refund after exporting a car from Poland, I’d really appreciate hearing what worked.

Thanks!
