SHOWCASE I also have a weird DS setup that I love on the Nova.

Post image

Unless a game is heavy on the triggers I find myself defaulting to this layout for DS games. Gives me a 960x720 screen on top. It's also surprisingly comfortable since the device is so small and light weight. Feels like I'm holding a light cellphone. The ergonomic back grip definitely helps too because it gives me something symmetrical to hold onto with both hands.

GAMES & APPS Having an excellent time with my new GOTY contender, Belmont's Curse

Retroid Pocket 6

Castlevania: Belmont's Curse

Droiddeck

Proton 11 ARM64

Extreme + TSO

1152 x 648

Have really been looking forward to the new Castlevania, and boy does it not disappoint. Fast, fluid combat, incredible art direction, really intuitive map flow, it's exactly how to modernize a series. Has immediately shot up to my top 3 in the series with AOS and SOTN.

The game is very playable, hovering between 40 and 60 fps, and I really appreciate the accessibility options like giving Rose and enemies outlines for better visibility

SHOWCASE I kinda love playing 3DS games like this on the Nova.

Post image

Inspired by a previous post I saw. I realized I didn't care as much for the lower screen for most games I played, but I still wanted it to be just large enough where I could see the map or tap with my finger. I distorted the lower screen but this allows me to have a gorgeous 1280x768 resolution for the upper screen and take advantage of the full width of the device. Works very well with Zeldas, Yoshi and Poochy, 2D and 3D Mario, Star Fox...etc. Most of the games I've been playing tbh. Makes me feel like I have a dinky single screen 3DS available at all times lol

QUESTION Actually happy about the RP DUO are you?

Post image
30 Upvotes

I ordered the RP DUO as soon as it was available, and was kind of on the edge of canceling the order but held on until I could see some hands on reviews of the unit, also when the Anbernic DDS was announced it kinda threw me for a loop after seeing the power house chip it came with but everything else looked lack luster especially those screens, like I get it they are known to make faithful clones but then why give it the G2 chips that promote playing more modern games such as 16:9 content just to be held back by those screens. Best of both worlds would be G2 chip on the DUO but ehh we can’t get everything. This was more of a rant but after seeing the Duo brute force its way through the emulations and seeing the performance it got with no updates/drivers from any emulators as it’s a completely new chip in the emulation space I’m actually pretty excited to see how far we can take it as a community. (Also let’s not even mention the price of the DDS….).

QUESTION ITS COMING!!

Got a 12gb Pocket 6 (with the second screen) coming on Saturday finally!! I’ve done my research and kinda have an idea what I’m going to do with it. Biggest questions. I know it plays switch games, but can it play multiplayer games as well? Also, should I do the install with the second screen option for 3DS games?

And it goes without saying, I will be videoing the unboxing just in case.

TIA!

I genuinely love this thing. I have an ayn thor and steam deck yet I find myself reaching for the nova and taking it with me to work due to how small and easy it is to transport. On another note super mario sunshine eclipse is so much fun. I've always had a strenuous relationship with sunshine as i wanted to love it but couldn't, eclipse has given me a new found appreciation for it. Great mod.

Just Chatting The decomps are amazing news for Android handhelds.

I've been following the recent news regarding decomps which allow games from consoles to be run natively on PC/Android/Linux or whatever your target platform is while sidestepping the need for an emulation layer to run the game in. The performance offered by decomps is vastly superior to emulation so our handhelds will able to offer significantly smoother performance playing them on the go.

One of the most impressive developments in the space is Bloodborne running at 100+ fps on PC, buttery smooth with FSR/DLSS support. Its a dream come true, we'll finally be able to push our handhelds to their maximum potential without having the performance overhead of emulation.

I think this is extremely exciting for this space and bodes well for Android handhelds as a gaming platform.

In awe at how light and comfortable the RP6 is with the official grip.

I have wrist issues post lyme disease so I had to sell my steam deck due to it being so heavy.

This is the perfect balance.

Game native compatability isn't perfect but it appears to be improving by the day.

GAMES & APPS What are the best sport titles for RP6?

Hello, we barely talk about sport games here so I am just curious what are the best sport titles (FIFA, NBA, NHL...) that you have managed to run on RP6.

My RP6 12 GB is coming soon so interested to know what to expect and what is your experience here. Thanks!

Just Chatting Barely Scratching the Surface with RP6

Post image

I love my RP6 12gb, but lately I’ve been feeling like I’m not really taking advantage of what this thing can do.

Right now, I pretty much only play PS2 games on it. But there is so many other systems, games, and possibilities this device has, and I feel like I’m missing out on a huge part of the experience.

I’m curious:
What do you guys actually use your Retroid for the most?

What systems do you play the most?

Are there any games, apps, or features that made you feel like you were finally getting the most out of your device?

I feel like I need to branch out and discover what this thing is really capable of. Currently have these but they’re not entirely set up, I haven’t touched Eden, Azahar, Armsx3 (due to not being able to figure it out) and game native (I have a lot of issues with some games).
I’m pretty new to all of this, I’ve had this for a while now but haven’t gotten the hang of setting everything up.

Cutest handheld I ever done saw, it's a thing of beauty. Also added some pics with its big brother for size comparison.

Delivered today, ordered 27th of September. Not too bad. I know I just got it, but it feels amazing and I already can tell I'd enjoy playing on it. Every part of it feels amazing and the design is so good. Smaller than I expected and that's a good thing.

Welp time to spend 4-8 hours tinkering with it!

QUESTION Is this normal for the RP4Pro and the dual screen add on?

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

The clamp for the dual screen is too big for the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro. I know that it can extend but this is it at it's smallest and it's just too big for the device. I even have the grip that adds a few millimeters on the top and bottom so I haven't bothered to check how much more loose it would be without that. In order to use it, I have to always be holding the clamp to the device, which is obviously cumbersome and inconvenient. Did I get a dud or is this designed to fit better on newer devices like the Nova?

Just Chatting Shimmering / wobbling effect while scrolling on the Retroid pocket 6

The problem isn't directly caused by the screen itself, because it's even visible with the ingame screen recording on any other display or when connected to an external screen.

The same content doesn't show this weird shimmering effects when running on rocknix or on my galaxy s10e / retroid pocket flip 2.

Yes, integer scaling + nearest neighbor is enabled

Here is how it looks like when playing certain sprite based side scrollers, even more noticeable and distracting when connected to a tv.

https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidNativePorts/comments/1x87xb9/gravity_circuit_port_shows_shimmering_effect/

Again, same content looks completely shimmerless on my galaxy s10e or retroid pocket flip2
