Scared shelter kitty vs sleeping soundly
The first picture is from when she arrived at the shelter as a terrified kitten. I adopted her at 7.5 months. She slowly began to warm up: after six weeks she allowed me to carefully touch her and after three months I could properly pet her. Now, four months after bringing her home, she trusts me completely and has become very cuddly and affectionate.🥹

Awarded a Cat From the streets to running the place
We took momma and 2 babies in a week ago. So… I guess I’m a cat person and never knew it. I love them so much! 😭
They are on amoxicillin for a week. The vet said mom likely wouldn’t have made it without meds. When she would eat- she sounded like Darth Vader, sneezing snot and all. I can only imagine how crappy she felt. Kittens had runny 💩 and gross eyes I was cleaning all day. After only 24 hours on meds I see so much improvement. Mom has a spay appt Wednesday, as long as she is better. I don’t want her to go back into heat and try and get out or I would wait.
We love these babies so much it hurts. 😭❤️🐱

Abused by her previous owner
For eight months, she was the only cat left on that shelf. Every time someone walked into the shelter, they breezed right past her. She was a senior, and her file was thick with red flags, maltreated by previous owner, severe anxiety, requires extreme patience.
They looked at her and saw a broken animal with too much baggage and not enough time left. I won't lie and say it was love at first sight. When i brought her, she spent the first three weeks hiding in the darkest corner of my closet, only coming out at night to eat. If i moved too fast, she would flinch and press herself into the floor. The trauma of her past was a physical weight in my house. There were days i cried because i felt like i was failing her, like maybe the damage was too deep and she would never feel safe.
But i stopped trying to force her to be a normal cat. I just existed in the same room as her. I sat on the floor and read out loud so she could get used to my voice. I let her come to me on her own terms.
It happened slowly. First, it was just her sitting a few feet away. Then, it was a hesitant sniff of my hand. Then, one night, she jumped onto the bed and curled up against my legs.
Now she the most loyal, gentle soul i have ever known. She follows me from room to room. She doesn't need toys, she just needs to know where i am. She trust me completely, and that trust feels like the greatest. Price in the world.
Everyone wants the easy cats, but they miss out on the profound beauty of earning the trust of broken one. She was not damaged goods. She was just waiting for someone to show her that the world wasn't entirely cruel. I am so glad i didn't leave her on that shelf

Mourning/Loss Tribute to my sweet boy, he was the best cat...
Today I had to send my 15 years old sweet beautiful boy Leon to the other side after a long two weeks hospitalization. I did everything I could but after a pancreatitis that led to a triaditis and then anemia, two blood transfusions, and other complications I had to let him go.
Every morning when I had my coffee in my backyard, he would jump to my shoulder and just keep me company silently. He was always there for me and never asked for anything in return other than love.
I'm really heartbroken and this is probably the saddest day of my life, but I will always remember and love you my sweet beautiful Leon. We will see each other again on the other side...

🖤 The voids we're currently fostering
My wife and I have been fostering kitties for the ASPCA for the last few years. Actually I'll be honest, it's pretty much all my wife doing it. She loves it. I do too but she does 99.9% of the work. It was her idea afterall 😂 We've probably fostered close to 150 cats since we've started, maybe more. I can't keep count anymore. But these are the first all black kitties we've had. So adorable! 2 boys and a girl. They'll be going back to get adopted in a couple weeks.
