Last 3 episodes:
Have been busy with work, travelling.
Of course they’re investigating Naomi’s case. I shall be silent after the tirade her last episode unlocked.
Well, looks like Light traded half his life for those eyes.
Well, I sure was wrong. Great twist with someone else able to kill and with Shinigami eyes.
Oh Lordy, I hate the if a Shinigami falls in love twist. Though it was explained decently after - wasn't really a love angle it was a violation of rule angle.
Light and the girl at the same cafe though is lame af.
I guess her coming to his house makes sense: he can’t exactly kill her after that, as his mum and sis would recognise her. Screaming while in his room though…wild.

Welcome back. I thought you had silently quit the rewatch lol
I actually like the Jealous stuff because I think it's meant to play into Rem and Misa's relationship. Rem seems to really care about Misa and so I took the backstory on how Misa got the Death Note as potential foreshadowing.
The café stuff was kinda corny, but it did remind me of the ending of The Usual Suspects. So, I liked that at least.
As for this episode, it's interesting we're seemingly going away from Light trying to catch Misa to maybe play both sides against each other. It feels a bit like he's trying to kill two birds with one stone.
I also personally really like Misa because she's caught in the middle of Light and L's personal drama but she isn't the genius that these two are. That makes her more of a wildcard.

Thoughts on Light wanting to investigate something happening at the Note Blue?
What are your thoughts on Misa finding out Light’s personal information?
Thoughts on Light apparently being a national tennis champion?
What are your thoughts on Misa meeting Light in person?
What are your thoughts on Misa saying she's obsessed with Kira because he killed the person who killed both her mom and dad?
What are your thoughts on Misa telling Light she wants to be his eyes?

In another series, that final scene may have been the most overdramatic visual framing of a completely mundane moment, but as it stands now, it's already second place at best.
1
u/Holofan4life 1d ago
I was about to say, the average Death Note episode has like five scenes with more overdramatic visual framings lol
I thought the backstory they gave Misa on why she worships Kira makes all the sense in the world. She's kinda like the Harley Quinn to Light’s Arthur Fleck.

Hey, guys. Holofan4life here.
Welcome to the 20th anniversary rewatch of Death Note.
Names need not be written down.
Very few anime transend the medium it is a part of. One Piece, Naruto, Dragon Ball, Speed Racer. Those are really the four where even non anime fans know of it. I would argue there was a point in time where Death Note was like this as well where even if you weren’t an anime fan, you knew what Death Note was.
I of course have experienced Death Note through various memes and the like. I even remember checking out a Treehouse of Horror episode of The Simpsons specifically because they parodied Death Note, and I’m not even a modern Simpsons watcher. But despite being familiar with the show for the better part of almost 15 years, I’ve never actually seen Death Note. It’s just one of those things that escaped me.
I’ve heard Death Note is notorious for having a dip in quality. That with the conclusion of part 1, the show isn’t as good as when it started. This rewatch is less a matter of deciding if the show is good or not and more is part 2 really as bad as it reputation suggests. My prediction will be no but it’ll be a show that goes from 9 out of 10 to 8 out of 10.
Death Note was at one point arguably the most mainstream anime in the entire world. And so it’s time we revisit what I’m sure got many people into anime.
With that out of the way, let’s begin.
I’m watching the dub, by the way. Because potato chips.
I found out yesterday that one of my jobs is cutting my hours. I swear, things are never easy for me.
Light being told something by his dad.
A video and a journal was submitted to TV.
Tokyo Dome? Like wrestling?
Misa brushing her hair
Oh, she has Shinigami eyes? Interesting.
That does make sense as to how she can kill TV reporters.
Light, L, and the team are debating on if they should make the diary public.
L thinks they definitely should
From there, they create check points on all roads leading to the Tokyo Dome.
L then insinuates there could be another message hidden in the diary.
Gotta keep an eye on everyone with notebooks.
Meanwhile, Light needs to get their hands on the fake Kira's notebook.
L tells one of the police officers to keep their eye on Light at all times.
Light back at home
He covers his whereabouts by saying he has a girlfriend.
Meanwhile, the sis is eating potato chips :D
After asking, Ryuk says it's possible for two Shinigami to talk in the human world.
Light is worried this may result in him being revealed as Kira.
A big event on the 22nd going on at the Note Blue.
Light believes it to be a code
Light being followed by the police officer.
A lot of people are with them that Light says are his friends.
This is all to mask Ryuk following Light.
Who is that?
Oh, Misa in disguise
And she has found the real Kira
She found his real name. Moon Yagami.
About that...
It's a good thing the Death Note doesn't kill babies.
Time travelers with a Death Note when Hitler hits his 781st day.
Oh, she's knows his name is Light
Written as Moon
Won the national tennis championship? Whut?
She purchased his information. How romantic <3
Light back with the task force
Second Kira announces they found the real Kira.
L wonders if this confirms Light is Kira.
L wants to send a message to the second Kira.
And so they proceed to do so
Misa walking
She's going to introduce herself
She really is very forward
Light seeing her
She hands him the Death Note
He touches it and sees the Shinigami.
So he invites her in
This is the craziest meet cute I've ever seen.
Now they're talking in his room
She offers to be his eyes
"Would you please make me your girlfriend?!?"
Well, that was unexpected
Light says being seen together wouldn't look very good.
Misa shows she's good with disguises.
She even disguised her fingerprints.
Misa says there's no way she kills Light.
She just wants to be with him
She admits that her parents were killed in a robbery.
Eventually, Kira killed him for what he did to her parents.
That's why he means everything to her.
How long has Light been killing criminals anyway?
Light just hugged Misa!
He will act like her boyfriend, though nothing is official.
Seems kinda tsun, if you ask me
Just what exactly is Light planning?
Overall, this did a good job furthering the Misa stuff. She meets the real Kira, and now the Kiras are in a relationship together. Kinda. It’s funny because that one police officer back at the task force headquarters basically suggested the real Kira was likely working with the fake one. And while that wasn't true at the time, it became true and almost willed itself into existence. One might say it was a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I don't see Misa surviving and it to me becomes a question of who kills her. Will it be the task force which then leads to a falling out with Light, or will Light write her name in his Death Note thus betraying her trust? I kinda feel like the latter makes more sense from a storytelling perspective because I'd like to see Light get more corrupt as the story goes on. And I think the police killing Misa really wouldn't make sense other than give Light a reason to become more evil. I guess then it becomes a question of why would Light betray Misa, but I figure she would just outlive her usefulness and he wouldn't need her anymore. And Light could justify it by saying she killed innocent civilians so he's doing the world a favor.
Maybe he kills her after she kills someone without his cooperation.
This wasn't one of the better episodes, but it serves its purpose. Light is seemingly going to work both sides in what is bound to be a conflict of interest. It's not a matter of if, but when.

What are your thoughts on Misa finding out Light is Kira?
She found out before L did. How about that?
What are your thoughts on Light agreeing to "date" Misa?
Light got a goth GF before I did. Why even live?

u/Second_Cour 2d ago
Light has made it pretty clear straight away that he wants to kill the second Kira. Which she probably also knew, thus turned up on his doorstep: the task is infinitely more difficult for him now, as they've now been spotted together. So, Light needs to figure out a way to kill her off and basically make her vanish, similar to what he did with Naomi or keep it from his mum/sister ever finding out.
1
u/Holofan4life 1d ago
I kinda feel like it would be easier to kill L than it would be Misa. Not just because she has a Death Note, but because she's a famous celebrity and so that would definitely result in fan backlash and outrage. It would be like the person who killed the singer Selena and the attention that caused.

First Time Note Taker, subs
You know what, I'll apologize to Misa. She actually had quite a lot of things thought out, but she just pales in comparison to those two freaks. Her straightforwardness is also very refreshing, coming directly to confont Light at his home, with her emotions on her sleeve.
And so now I have a 3rd party to root for, damn it! But Misa's obsession will most likely go unrequited. At least I respect Light to say that he can't fall in love with her instead of pretending to do so.
Light's sister was super funny this episode. Of course she'd be giddy to hear all the details. I also just about lost it when Misa waltzed through the door and Light said that it's the girl he talked about the other day xd, what a smooth operator he is.
QOTD:
What are your thoughts on Misa finding out Light is Kira?
At least someone isn't stuck in a forever loop of a "are they? aren't they?"
What are your thoughts on Light agreeing to "date" Misa?
His hands were tied tbh. He seems to have made up some sort of a plan for her though, judging from his maniacal laugh at the end. And I feel sorry for Misa, she's in the middle of making the hot/crazy ratio mistake.

u/Holofan4life 1d ago
Misa is another character that is potentially a pawn in the game Light and L are playing that is more likable than either Light or L. First we had Raye, then Naomi, and now Misa. Sure, her love for Light is very obsessed-like, but it makes sense why'd she feel this way what with her parents being murdered.
The only thing about Misa I'm not the biggest fan of is her being a model. I kinda feel like her just being this crazed fangirl who felt seen by Kira is enough of a hook for her character.

Thoughts on a video and a journal was submitted to TV?
It shows how old this series is. Nowadays it would be all social media.
What are your thoughts on it being confirmed Misa has Shinigami eyes?
Nothing much, it was pretty much confirmed last episode already.
Thoughts on L feeling they should make the diary public?
He needs clues. And this is his only lead right now.
Thoughts on Light saying he has a girlfriend?
I was greatly amused by the matter-of-factness of the entire situation.
What are your thoughts on Ryuk saying it's possible for two Shinigami to talk to each other in the human world?
It makes more sense than if they suddenly weren't able to see each other.
What are your thoughts on Misa finding out Light’s personal information?
I guess there were privacy issues on the internet already back then haha.
Thoughts on Light apparently being a national tennis champion?
Sasuga Light.
What are your thoughts on Misa meeting Light in person?
Go get it girl! (the trainwreck, is what I meant)
What are your thoughts on Misa saying she's obsessed with Kira because he killed the person who killed both her mom and dad?
It's a messed up situation. And it's understandable why Misa would appreciate the vengenance.
What are your thoughts on Misa telling Light she wants to be his eyes?
It sounds very romantic, so it's on point with Misa's motives.

Thoughts on a video and a journal was submitted to TV?
It shows how old this series is. Nowadays it would be all social media.
Especially given Misa is a model. Nowadays she would be an influencer.
What are your thoughts on it being confirmed Misa has Shinigami eyes?
Nothing much, it was pretty much confirmed last episode already.
Yeah, I guess so
Thoughts on L feeling they should make the diary public?
He needs clues. And this is his only lead right now
He's running on a lot of assumptions.
Thoughts on Light saying he has a girlfriend?
I was greatly amused by the matter-of-factness of the entire situation.
I like Light’s sister lol
What are your thoughts on Ryuk saying it's possible for two Shinigami to talk to each other in the human world?
It makes more sense than if they suddenly weren't able to see each other.
I suppose
What are your thoughts on Misa finding out Light’s personal information?
I guess there were privacy issues on the internet already back then haha.
Aged like wine
Thoughts on Light apparently being a national tennis champion?
Sasuga Light.
Is the implication he borrowed that factoid from L and he forged his information in case the task force found out?
What are your thoughts on Misa meeting Light in person?
Go get it girl! (the trainwreck, is what I meant)
I support this toxic relationship
What are your thoughts on Misa saying she's obsessed with Kira because he killed the person who killed both her mom and dad?
It's a messed up situation. And it's understandable why Misa would appreciate the vengenance.
I know I would.
I wonder if she'll ever met Jealous after he saved his life.
What are your thoughts on Misa telling Light she wants to be his eyes?
It sounds very romantic, so it's on point with Misa's motives.
It's romantic in like a messed up sorta way

Watching Dubbed
Misa trying to communicate more is pretty interesting.
Right now I definitely find Misa to be the most fascinating character in the show.
Misa can’t see her own lifespan which is interesting.
I like seeing more of the police and L’s reaction to all of this.
Feels like a lot of setup right now
I just noticed that Light’s dad now has grey streaks in his hair. I don’t think he did that at the beginning of the series. I think the implication is that the stress of the case is causing him to prematurely go grey.
Light is already mentally prepared to kill everyone who sees Misa get captured if it comes to that. Clearly a well adjusted young man.
Light says he has a girlfriend. If only he could come up with a more believable lie.
Looks like Light is going clubbing. Once again, I find that hard to believe.
Light introduces the other detective under the name Taro which is a very common and generic Japanese name. As far as aliases go it’s very basic.
Light coming up with this whole elaborate scheme only for Misa to immediately find him is pretty funny.
Also, Misa looks very different in this outfit. Very cute too.
Misa’s seen him once and is already obsessing over him.
Oh man, Light has a stalker now.
Light freaking out when he realizes the fake Kira knows his identity is so good. I love seeing Light be taken down a peg. Especially by Misa who, no offense, comes off as a bit of a ditz sometimes.
Misa has such cool goth fashion.
The two Kiras finally meet. I feel like Light may react badly to this.
It’s interesting seeing them finally talk.
Misa apparently tricked her friend into putting her fingerprints on the tapes. That’s clever of her.
I was not expecting Misa to have this tragic backstory all of a sudden.
That is such a weird way to hug someone.
I guess Light and Misa are working together now

What are your thoughts on it being confirmed Misa has Shinigami eyes?
I mean yeah I thought that was obvious. Cool to see how they work
Thoughts on Light saying he has a girlfriend?
I still think that's not a very believable lie lol
Thoughts on Light wanting to investigate something happening at the Note Blue?
I love how he way overthought this
What are your thoughts on Misa finding out Light’s personal information?
She's a very efficient stalker
Thoughts on Light apparently being a national tennis champion?
That was already established in the Tennis episode
What are your thoughts on Misa saying she's obsessed with Kira because he killed the person who killed both her mom and dad?
Very surprising twist
What are your thoughts on Misa telling Light she wants to be his eyes?
Kinda romantic

Well...
Thoughts on Light wanting to investigate something happening at the Note Blue?
I love how he way overthought this
It ended up working against him
What are your thoughts on Misa finding out Light’s personal information?
She's a very efficient stalker
That she is
Thoughts on Light apparently being a national tennis champion?
That was already established in the Tennis episode
I thought it was L who was the tennis champion.
What are your thoughts on Misa saying she's obsessed with Kira because he killed the person who killed both her mom and dad?
Very surprising twist
Also explains a lot
What are your thoughts on Misa telling Light she wants to be his eyes?
Kinda romantic
In a stalkerish kinda way

Misa trying to communicate more is pretty interesting.
Very much so
Right now I definitely find Misa to be the most fascinating character in the show.
Because she feels like such an outsider
Misa can’t see her own lifespan which is interesting.
Kinda makes the Shinigami eyes a waste of time, no?
I like seeing more of the police and L’s reaction to all of this.
To me, this is a big part of what makes the show so enjoyable.
Feels like a lot of setup right now
Nothing wrong with that
I just noticed that Light’s dad now has grey streaks in his hair. I don’t think he did that at the beginning of the series. I think the implication is that the stress of the case is causing him to prematurely go grey.
I mean, think about it. One of his children is accused of being a murderer. I don't know how you can live with yourself.
Light is already mentally prepared to kill everyone who sees Misa get captured if it comes to that. Clearly a well adjusted young man.
Totally not a sus individual
Light says he has a girlfriend. If only he could come up with a more believable lie.
His family seems to buy it
Looks like Light is going clubbing. Once again, I find that hard to believe.
Yeah...
Light introduces the other detective under the name Taro which is a very common and generic Japanese name. As far as aliases go it’s very basic.
Not a bad idea, honestly
Light coming up with this whole elaborate scheme only for Misa to immediately find him is pretty funny.
Sometimes it pays to be simple-minded
Also, Misa looks very different in this outfit. Very cute too.
That she is
Misa’s seen him once and is already obsessing over him.
I thought at least they did a tremendous job explaining her obsession.
Oh man, Light has a stalker now.
First time?
Light freaking out when he realizes the fake Kira knows his identity is so good. I love seeing Light be taken down a peg. Especially by Misa who, no offense, comes off as a bit of a ditz sometimes.
It reminds me of Familiar of Zero and how Guiche would sometimes take out the bad guy in spite of himself.
Misa has such cool goth fashion.
She really was a trendsetter, huh?
The two Kiras finally meet. I feel like Light may react badly to this.
You'd be surprised
It’s interesting seeing them finally talk.
That it is
Misa apparently tricked her friend into putting her fingerprints on the tapes. That’s clever of her.
Was it she tricked her? I thought she was an accomplice.
I was not expecting Misa to have this tragic backstory all of a sudden.
I love it. It perfectly explains her infatuation with Kira.
For Misa, killing that burglar was the happiest day of her life. But for Light, it was Tuesday.
That is such a weird way to hug someone.
This is how when watching Toradora I wanted Ryuuji to hug Taiga.
I guess Light and Misa are working together now
Interesting development

First Timer
Well points to L for suspecting there was some kind of hidden message without knowing about the Death Notes and so wouldn't get the references. Points to Misa for showing she's smarter than you would think and got one over on Light. Wow Ryuk is either lying his ass off or he really was never motivated to figure out how his murder book works. Well Light and Misa have teamed up which is bad for the taskforce.
Also I get wanting to catch Kira 1 but Kira 2 seemed a hell of a lot more murder happy and less discriminating from the TV station stunt so its kind of fucked up Kira 2 would probably get a deal to turn on Kira 1.
