Subreddit Mod Post Rule 12 - Unrelated Content (new rule)

Post image
67 Upvotes

Rule 12 - Unrelated content has been added to address the community's consistent concerns with allowing off-topic self-promotion posts here on /r/BambuLab. The rule is as follows:

Websites, tools, products, projects, and other content that is not directly relevant to BambuLab is subject to removal at mod discretion.

This includes but is not limited to non-bambulab printers, non-bambulab topics, and various kinds of self promotion (some examples: ai coded tools/sites, tools/sites that are not 100% free or include donation/subscription/sale options, and non-makerworld crowdfunding).

Our policy in the past was to allow self-promotion in good faith - as long as it: 1) was related to 3D printing, 2) was completely free for the community, even if not related to BL (no ability for the creator to monetarily benefit via a call to donate, paid subscription tiers, purchase option, affiliate earnings, or similar....)

These type of posts, however, tended to conjure a lot of arguments and negative sentiment. Not only did it create clogs in our mod queue (since we must review all reports manually), but it made our subreddit users unhappy. We have been consistently reviewing insults, arguments, and negative reception in the comments of these types of posts. We also frequently receive modmail asking for permission to advertise this and that. It creates a significant amount of clutter for us to sort through, but also creates an unhappy environment for those who come here to indulge in BambuLab hobby enthusiasm. We understand that when our users see repetitive self promotion, it can make this space feel stiff, claustrophobic, or impersonal. The authors of the posts can also receive so much negative feedback they may feel targeted or unwelcome. We'd rather this place be focused on BambuLab, rather than users feel like they have to wade through post after post about claude-generated 3d printing websites, or everyone's personal filament tracker github project, etc.

Unfortunately, allowing them just hasn't worked out.

Self promotion of any tool/website/project that doesn't benefit BambuLab users and/or does not include the usage of BambuLab products or software specifically, will now be removed.

MakerWorld Crowdfunding posts will still be welcome here, however we do require they use the correct flair so users can sort them if need be.

As always please remember, we are primarily run by volunteer mods (exception of the few official BL accounts, which mostly handle posting product and program announcements). We rely heavily on user reports to help us mod better. The sub has high traffic so it is impossible for our team to view every single post, every single comment, every single hour of every single day. Please remember we aren't perfect but we're trying our best to make this subreddit a healthy balance between what BL wants and what the community wants. That's why we were brought on in the first place :)

Show & Tell Anyone interested in this way to split a 3D model?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

In our last post, we shared how to select and color parts using Geometric Coloring. Here is another feature we built into AIMIA's 3D Editor inMakerLab: Curve Split.

You just draw a closed curve on the model's surface, and our algorithm combines that loop with the model's geometry to fit a custom 3D cutting surface — plus you can add alignment pins directly for easy assembly.

AIMIA Beta is currently rolling out in waves on MakerLab — stay tuned!

Just Showing Off My surgeon joked I could print my own skull (3D-printed visual aid)

I had a tumour removed from my skull (calvaria) in July. Beforehand, I turned my CT scan into a 3D model with InVesalius 3, smoothed it in Blender, fixed all non-manifold geometry, and printed it 1:1 on my Bambu Lab P1S. I brought it along as a visual aid for the surgical team, and afterwards my surgeon kept it as a medical demonstration model.

I also have a photo of my healing, stapled scar from after the surgery. I’m not sure whether this subreddit allows medical images like that though...

I Modeled This! I made this tiny FPV tank from cheap "servos" which turned out to be motors, now I can find and annoy my cats while I'm at work

I wanted to use my servo-shaped motors instead of throwing them out so I made the Cat Finder, a tiny FPV tank using just two motors, tracks printed in TPU and an ESP32-Cam.

I made the software for it open source, it can be controlled from your browser or phone, and if you have a Homeserver like I do you can control it from anywhere in the world, like when you're bored at work and want to see what your cats (or dogs) are up to. With the battery saving mode it has days of standby so you can wake it up and drive it anytime anywhere.

As you can hear in the video the CatFinder is a bit of a screamer due to the motors being quite cheap and noisy, but my cats don't seem to mind that much, if anything it makes them easier to find because they want to know what all the fuss is about

If you happen to have some "servos" which turned out to be motors give this print a try, it's cheap, quick to print and a great way to pass the time.

I don't know if links are permitted, if you want to build it, search for "Cat Finder" on Makerworld, I'd love to see your cats react!

I Modeled This! I dreamed my Minecraft world was 3D printed. So, I programmed a converter!

I think I play too much Minecraft :)

I built a Windows app that converts Minecraft MCA files into STL.

Over 10 years of playing Minecraft, I’ve created dozens of massive structures. It’s so cool to be able to hold what I’ve built in my hands! :)

The main advantage of my program is that it's built specifically for 3D printing. For example, you can choose how glass gets represented: no block, a solid block, or a checkerboard pattern (so large glass structures come out looking semi-transparent). You can also set the block overlap percentage so the blocks actually hold onto each other.

I Modeled This! Taught myself parametric modeling yesterday

I hate the stupid sliding window adapter that came with my portable AC. So I designed a custom one to fit my window.

Then I thought other people might want a custom one to fit their window. Which is hard, because all windows are different. So I thought, hey, can I build a parameterized one?

Yes. Yes, I can!

Would love your comments and feedback, and maybe a boost or two. 😁

This is only my second model on Makerworld, so I need all the help I can get.

General Discussion I still cannot understand why they couldn't pull a H2D on the X2D extrusion gear

Post image
82 Upvotes

So why did they go with a bowden extrusion solution when they already have this system implemented on the H2D. Would they really not be able to fit the tool head in the chamber? And if so, couldn't they make the printer a tad bit wider? Or is it keeping the same form factor for all their enclosed printers?

R Series / R1 Bambu R1 Oily Substance Everywhere on Laser Cutter

Thumbnail

Hello, we've just received our R1 today and upon opening the packaging, we noticed an oily substance all over the outside of the cutter. Seeing as we haven't seen any other unboxing posts about the R1 yet, does anyone know what this could be? And if the cutter is safe to turn on? We're in the process of making a support ticket with BambuLab so we'll probably err on the safe side until then.

EDIT: It appears the substance (DI Water? Coolant?) is originating from the water inlet plug, upon removing that plug we can see there is a substantial amount of liquid coating around there. This is also in line with what we saw with where the liquid has spread (mostly in the back region. Is it ok to turn on the machine so we can get the Serial # to make a ticket?

Quick Question Matte filament gaps

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m noticing the first layer of my prints have these indents, does anyone know how to fix them? It’s like the design is not printing in these small gaps or the filament is not melting enough.

Have attached filament settings where I’ve increased nozzle temp. Filament is matte poly maker panchroma.

Printer is P1S :)

Thank you

Filament Troubleshooting/Help! Properly dried ABS?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been printing ABS for a while, and I honestly thought my SUNLU S2 was doing a pretty good job drying the filament.

Well, I recently got the Bambu AMS HT, and HOLY … 🤯
The difference in print quality is absolutely insane. I’d say my ABS prints look at least 2x better compared to when I was using the SUNLU S2.

I knew drying filament was important, but I genuinely didn’t expect such a massive improvement just from switching dryers.

Now I’m wondering if my ABS was ever actually dry enough before…. 😂

Has anyone else noticed such a huge difference between filament dryers?

I Modeled This! Made this potion bottle lamp

So I designed a couple potion props recently and thought that the design would be really easy to turn into a lamp, so that's what I did! Pretty happy with how it turned out! It's fairly low filament usage for the size as well, and even the cork glows!

Check it out!

Filament Troubleshooting/Help! Food safety considerations?

I’m very much looking forward to getting my first 3D printer, just waiting for the P2S Combo to be discounted for Black Friday. One thing I’m a little concerned about is I want to have prints be safe for putting things that may touch food, or toothbrushes, etc. in/on but also I want access to the wider variety of filaments that comes from not limiting myself to PLA Pure. How big an issue is it if I, for example, use a non-food-safe filament for a toothbrush holder?

Quick Question I am starting a 3d printing business, what filaments brands should I trust?

Answered / Solved! Support not generating.

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

This model of mine has a lot of support, and sometimes the slicer doesn't generate support there, so I need to paint some on, but I never had that support that didn't exist and started printing in midair.

Looking for a solution, I tried painting more supports and closing and reopening the slicer, but it didn't work. It also isn't a visual bug because when printed, the support starts printing in midair.

Update: I changed the support type, and now it works.

General Discussion H2D or H2C - I do complex prints and second nozzle support interface is my biggest question

Hi

I’ve got many machines from various brands

I really want a second nozzle(s) machine for the complex prints I do where a dedicated support interface material nozzle would be ideal.

I like the bigger print volume of the H2D and H2C. Just not sure which is best for this role?

I have several single nozzle / AMS machines and I don’t like using dissimilar materials in the same nozzle. Despite prime/purge, it still leaves residue behind. That could foul up layer adhesion - that’s what I’ve seen in my testing with the Bambu Lab A1, Anycubic Kobra S1 Max and others.

I see the H2D has dropped in price some but the H2C still seems to review quite well

Thanks for your input!

General Troubleshooting/Help! Question on Printing with TPU

All - working with a P2S-AMS 2 Pro and I'd like to start experimenting with TPU filament. Made the mistake and bought Bambu TPU for AMS, print looks good on a flexible tennis ball, but there was no give or bounce to it.

Realizing I should have gone with 90A or 85A, any suggestions between the two? Assuming this will not go in AMS, how do you all feed it in? Thanks!
