Windows self immolated with an update one too many times for me. I got a usb drive flashed but Bazzite wouldn’t install. I flashed a usb ssd and it did install, but I bumped Enter before I hit the arrow to install MOK. Ok. Disable secure boot and reboot. 20 min later, still Preparing System, Please Wait.
So tomorrow I’ll install again and be a bit more careful. Wish me luck!
Nvidia KDE flavor. I’ll re-enable secure boot and do it right this time. Looking forward to trying it out.

I've recently discovered the magical world of keybinds, and then accidentally discovered that you can configure guide button shortcuts using Steam Input on handheld-focused distributions. Bazzite already ships an .desktop file that you can double-click it and then change sessions, but I'm an couch guy, most of the time I don't want to get up to double click it. I know, lazy as fuck, but it's an commodity.
Follow the steps:
- Get the launch command that the .desktop executes:
Right-click the .desktop file in your Desktop > Properties > App, and copy the command that's listed on "program". Close it afterwards, don't mess with this .desktop. You can delete it after you finish the guide.

- Set up your "app" on KDE Menu Editor:
As you may have noticed, the shortcut is not a dedicated app, so you can't keybind it. What you're going to do is create an shortcut on the start menu so you can keybind it later in the system settings. Open Menu Editor > select new > New Item, and then just copy what I did here, just adapt to your language, as mine is in portuguese.

- Set up the keybind:
Go to System Settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Add New > App, it will open an window to select the app you want to do a keybind. Search for your new Return to Game Mode shortcut you have just created. Select it and then choose a keybind for it. Copy mine if you want.

- Set up the guide button shortcuts:
Now that you have a keybind, you can finally bind an controller shortcut.
Go to your Steam Client settings and search for Game Recording. Browse the keyboard/controller shortcuts scrolling down in the page. Click in any of them, it will open a window with the controller configuration. Now you can configure the shortcut with the guide button. My setup:

There! Now you can trigger Game Mode without even getting up of your couch.
Video to show the bind working is in the post. Enjoy!!

I tried installing it from the bazzite portal and from the decky loader website and both have same issue, Bazzite and steam client both seem to be on the latest version, and my PC is just a standard AMD CPU + AMD GPU desktop...

Every time I update my bios I have to do a fresh install of bazzite because it won’t boot. Is there any work around? I need to update my bios to potentially fix an issue I’m having with sleep.
To clarify, I have 3 PCs and a handheld with bazzite on them, I'm not updating the bios on 1 system every time a new one releases. I've done it enough times now for necessary updates that I was wondering if there was a workaround.

Is there anyway i can fix this?

I am building a new system, I have 2x 4TB NVMe SSD's. I want to treat them as a single 8TB pool with the speed benefits of stripping across both.
I know there are potentially multiple ways to do this; software raid (mdadm), BTRFS raid, motherboard firmware raid, etc.
In the documentation I saw no mention of the recommended way to do this for Bazzite.
Does the Bazzite installer support doing this directly? IE: if I pick both disks from the installer does it put them in a stripped config?
Thanks

Hey everyone,
I’ve been experimenting with Linux gaming for a while, including Bazzite and CachyOS. I really like Bazzite as an operating system, but I previously switched back to Windows because I was getting better gaming performance.
With the recent Bazzite updates, I’m considering giving it another shot.
Before doing so, I’d like to hear from more experienced Bazzite users about what they typically do after a fresh installation, especially when it comes to gaming performance and system optimization.
My current setup:
CPU: Intel Core Ultra 7 270K Plus
GPU: Intel Arc B580 12GB
RAM: 16GB DDR5 5200MHz (2x8GB)
Motherboard: Gigabyte LGA1851
Storage: NVMe SSD 1TB
Displays: 1440p 180hz
A few things I’m particularly curious about:
Do you make any changes after installing Bazzite, or do you generally leave everything at its defaults?
Are there any recommended gaming-related tweaks, kernel settings, or performance optimizations that actually make a measurable difference?
For Intel Arc users, is there anything specific I should configure to get the most out of the GPU?
How do you keep Mesa, the Linux kernel, and GPU drivers up to date? Is using ujust update generally sufficient?
Are there any Proton, Gamescope, or Steam settings you would recommend?
Have you noticed any improvements in gaming performance with recent Bazzite updates, particularly on Intel hardware?
I’m not necessarily expecting Linux to outperform Windows in every game. I’m mainly interested in getting the most consistent performance possible without making unnecessary changes.
I’d especially appreciate hearing from people running Intel Arc GPUs, but any advice from experienced Bazzite users is welcome.
Thanks!

I was trying to dual boot between Windows and Bazzite. I created a bootable USB drive, disabled secure boot, and tried to install using the new Bazzite installer, The problem is that every time I open "HD Installer," it appears on my screen for half a second and then closes. I wait for it to start, but nothing happens. Does anyone know what the problem might be?
Sorry for any English mistakes, my English is terrible so I opted to use a translator.

Some cursory web searching shows that Bazzite might not be ideal for music production. I'm wondering why, and what's missing?
Other than that it seems perfect for gaming and using a browser

Experiencing issues with the touchpad on an Asus ROG G752VM laptop. Everything else works, but I use the laptop outside of gaming and want to use the touchpad.

I'm switching from windows to linux and I installed Bazzite last night, everything went fine without a hitch. But I have two seperate drives, one with my Windows install, and one with my Bazzite. I need to grab some files from my Windows drive before i completely wipe it, so I thought "no problem, ill flash my BIOS and switch which drive has priority." But Bazzite wont let me flash my BIOS and idk what to do. My current motherboard is a MSI B550M incase that is a part of the problem
Edit:yes "flashing BIOS" means opening the BIOS, idk y i call it that when it isnt, its just something ive also done

Hello. I can't use my Xbox One controller without first unplugging the dongle and plugging it back in.
Any fix?
r/Bazzite • u/v1luv33 • 22h ago
my PS5 controller works perfectly fine when I play games by Sony or when navigating Bazzite
when I play any game not by Sony (Ex. Terraria) I run into the issue of all of the button symbols show me the Xbox counterpart instead
I've tried turning off steam input but that just removes my ability to play the game at all
technically everything is perfectly playable, I just would like to see the correct buttons

Alright, story time. Used bazzite with my xbox ally (base model) and fell in love. The way everything was handled so smoothly, Steam taking the front on rendering, bazzite taking the front on kernal and drivers, and HDD taking the front on handheld functions. Lovely. Then 44 dropped and i had no idea why HDD was removed. Scattered rumors and comments here and there led me to believe it was purely a shortcut, a choice to taking "the easy road for the future" where they had to do less work to update bazzite going forward, what with the talk about gaming collective and such. I was furious that they abandoned a perfectly good solution just to get what? Better HDR?HDMI 2.1 support? Congrats, some people have better resolution while my device doesn't work and the "overscan" feature has been removed!Plus, opengamepadui friggin sucks and crashes my os! But, after doing some digging, and quite a few VERY GOOD updates....I see now that it is a necessary growing pain. Ditching HDD was necessary when they decided that they can't be a part of the team (making decisions behind universal blues backs) and Antheas has proven himself to be a liability to anyone who makes the mistake of working with him. Are there still improvements that need to be made? Yes. But after looking into the decision behind the change more, I'm confident in the universal blue team.
TL:DR:
At first i thought dropping HDD was a choice of laziness, now i see that it's a choice to drop a problem team member who screams at the other players and keeps messing up the plan every step he gets, so universal blue made a hard decision for the better of the project as a whole even though it meant extreme growing pains.

Hey! I tried everything I could, but I think now it is time to ask some support if someone has encountered similar situations here.
I'm running Bazzite on an Alienware m16 R2 (Intel Core Ultra, RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, 32 GB RAM), and I'm experiencing occasional complete system freezes while gaming and doing something else at the same time.
For example, last ocurrence 15 minutes ago I was playing a game while watching Youtube, and the system froze when I tried to switch Youtube to fullscreen on the 2nd monitor. The entire desktop became unresponsive, the audio looped, and I had to force a reboot.
System details:
I haven't found any NVIDIA Xid errors, and temperatures and memory usage looked normal.
Has anyone experienced similar freezes with on Bazzite/KDE Wayland? Any known kernel parameters or reliable fixes would be appreciated.
