7 year picture emerging…

My daughter is 7 and in second grade. She received academic support in both math and reading last year in first grade … through the year she closed a lot of gaps but had some weak areas still. Phonemic awareness for reading, but behaviorally things took a turn - big tantrums regarding task imitation, focus, concentration etc. she has always had “big feelings “ but there was an increase
In anxious/ avoidant behavior not just About academics, but she struggles with anything she isn’t “perfect at”.

She starts yawning within minutes of reading/ close work. Her reading intervention teacher told us her tracking wasn’t right, which we knew as she loses her place
A lot, leaves off beginning of words,
Slips small Words, flips words etc.. I took her for an eye exam last spring even though everyone said it was fine. Well now after enrolling her in therapy and working on getting a nueropsyc to better understand her whole picture finally got in with a developmental eye doctor this week . She is slightly farsighted, but more importantly lots of flags her eyes aren’t working optimally together. She got 5/10 on depth perception, corrected she got 8/10 and was 2.5 times faster. Also diagnosed with convergence excess , 20% undershoot sacaddes, fusion with defective steropsis. She’ll soon be the proud owner of purple glasses to be worn in class and for reading/ close work at home. She’ll have a follow up end of November and that exam Will determine if she needs further specialized eye exams and then possible vision therapy. Her nueropsyc is being pushed back a few weeks to see how the glasses
Impact her.

I am not expecting the glasses to be a silver bullet, but coming here to learn from others who have experienced similar either themselves or their family. Thanks!

Anyone have BVD with keratoconus? Prism glasses helped?

I have keratoconus (both eyes, stable after CXL 10+ years ago) and recently found out I also have BVD and left eye drifts up and inward I assume it could be (hyperphoria + esophoria).

I wear a scleral lens on the left eye. Noticed when I skip the lens, my headaches go away completely but obviously can't see well without it.

Thinking about getting prism glasses. Few things I'm wondering:

- Did prism actually help your headaches?

- Does prism value stay the same or keep going up over time?

- Anyone wear prism glasses over a scleral lens? Does that even work?

I'm in tech so 8+ hours on screen daily. The headaches are killing my productivity.

Appreciate any experience you can share

Just got diagnosed with CI

I've been telling optometrists that something is wrong with my vision my whole life. My mum used to comment on me reading with my head tilted or with one eye closed when I was young and the issues just continued. But I was always told I have 20/20 vision.

I live in a small country and it was hard to find someone in my town who has experience with BVD but I finally found a great optometrist. Now at 29, I got diagnosed with convergence insufficiency and I finally know that I haven't been imagining things this whole time. I'm very happy to know what's going on and also worried about getting glasses cause I've never had them before. But I hope they will make life a little easier after all this time.

Struggling Screen use quickly causes migraines and running out of short term disability. Can I recover enough to work part-time or should I switch careers?

I'm at the point where computer screens trigger a migraine after less than 30 mins of use. The migraines are also triggered by a mast cell issue but screen use is by far the fastest and most consistent. I went to a BVD specialist who said I didn't have it because he didn't see my eyes twitch when testing, though I let him know the testing made me feel awful. I went to a neuro-OT who diagnosed me based on my symptoms during testing and I've been doing vision therapy with her for almost a month. But I wake up and my eyes HURT which makes it difficult to even do the exercises.

I'm an engineer, work remotely, and all of my work requires computer work. I've tried monitor adjustments, none helped. I use light filtering glasses, and they help a little, buys 5-10 mins. I limped along on intermittent FMLA (located in OR, US) until that ran out then shifted to full-time leave with my work's short term disability plan, which runs out at the end of December. Has anyone else been in this situation and recovered? How long did it take? I'm worried about getting approval for long-term disability, but extremely worried about what to do for work if I am not approved. Literally everything requires screen use, is there even a career I can switch to?

Strabismus and monovision

I'm naturally doing monovision since there is 4.25 diopter difference between my eyes. Maybe it's the reason for my amblyopia? With glasses, my monovision is down to 1.6 diopters. I also have cataracts in my right amblyopic eye. According to the site below, monovision is not recommended for those with amblyopia. My strabismus optometrist doesn't seem to be bothered. He actually wrote a script with a 2.6 diopter difference! I told him my brain would not work with that big a difference.

What are your experiences with bvd and monovision? I'm considering giving up on glasses and using contacts to close the monovision to less than a diopter. I was doing that for 2 months but the headaches continued and the swaying/imbalance sensation started. That's when I was diagnosed with vertical diplopia.

Prisms not working?

Hey guys! So I got a prescription for prism glasses (with the low distance/astigmatism prescription I always had) early this year and they initially helped, but now I’m noticing my vision is almost as bad with my glasses on as off ? Things are very slightly clearer but not super crisp and I’m noticing the same headaches that I get when not wearing glasses (to the point where I just don’t wear them when I don’t need to, because at least I have nothing on my face). I just feel like I can’t see perfectly and it’s driving me crazy even though I have no big issues with my actual sight (e.g. I can make out most things except the smallest letters). I also don’t feel the big difference with prisms that many people here have. Do I just need a new prescription or is there something else I should look into? I feel like my eyes are constantly tired and it’s making me feel tired all the time.

Dr. Says Prism Won't Work for me?

I have binocular vision with convergence disorder, plus I'm near sighted with astigmatism. This all stayed out of nowhere 2 years ago. My ophthalmologist recommended vision therapy, my neurologist says that it's not going to help someone my age and that the issue might be from my connective tissue disease. They both said that prism wouldn't help because the degree of my vision problem varies so widely from day to day. Some days I can see fine, some days I can't even drive. Has anyone else been in this position? Do I just do nothing?

Vision therapy is so expensive 😭

I am in the US. Every appointment will be $200 because insurance doesn't cover it. Not to mention potential loss of the few sick days I do get.

Prism glasses were fine for the first 2 days, but now my eyes hurt badly — how long did your adjustment take?

I was recently diagnosed with binocular vision dysfunction (BVD) and started wearing new prism glasses.

The first 2 days actually seemed pretty good, but now my eyes are hurting a lot, and I’m trying to figure out whether this is a normal adjustment period or if something else is going on.
I’m experiencing:
Pain and pressure behind my eyes
Aching around my eyebrows and underneath my eyes
A tired, strained feeling in my eyes
Headaches and neck tightness
One complicating factor is that I recently had influenza A and am now on day 7, still dealing with sinus symptoms and pressure. I’m wondering how much of the eye pain could be from the lingering sinus inflammation versus the new prism lenses.
For background, I have a history of chronic neck pain and daily headaches, and I was hoping the prism glasses might help with some of those symptoms.

For those who have worn prism glasses for BVD:
Did you feel okay for the first few days and then get worse?
How long did it take for your eyes to adjust — days, weeks, or longer?
Did anyone experience significant pain behind or around the eyes during the adjustment period?
How did you tell the difference between normal adjustment symptoms and a prescription that wasn’t right for you?
Did your headaches and neck tightness eventually improve with the prisms?
I’d especially appreciate hearing from people who experienced a similar pattern. I’m trying to understand what others went through and whether their symptoms gradually improved or required a prescription change.

Prism/Double vision

Hi this is long and im going to try and explain it as well as i can sorry!

Back in 2020 i had gotten new lenses for my glasses, as i had been in a car wreck and the leneses were all scractched up. When i had received these new lenses i started getting double vision when wearing them, but ONLY when looking far away.

I went back and explained the situation and they referred me to a optometrist, as the place i went too just scanned my lenses as it was still within the time frame (under 2 years since my last eye appointment). The optometrist i went to in 2020 said that they had missed the prism in my glasses and that should fix the issues. and it had, i wasnt expircencing any double vision when i had my glasses on.

however, i have NEVER been told before this optometrist in 2020 that i needed a prism in my glasses, i was never made aware that this was a thing that was even in my glassses, and neither of my parents were made aware. I never went to vision training or anything like that either, and from as far as i can remember have never had double vision until i got the first -incorrect- lenses back in 2020.

fast foreward to sept 2026, i can finally afford to get new glasses and get my eyes checked again. ( I never felt like i needed to up my prescription or wasn't having any double vision so i have been wearing the same pair - with the added prism- for about 6 years as there wasn't any REAL need to get rechecked as everything seemed fine and i didnt have insurance and couldnt afford the cost). When i go to this new optometrist (2026) and do all the tests to see if i needed my prescription up'ed i mention to him that i do have a prism and it was missed last time so i just wanted to make sure itll be in the new lenses im getting.

He then informs me that i apparently never needed the prism. he does extra tests and while i explain to him that the double vision i get without my glasses is ONLY when i look far away, he looks at me like i grew a second head. he insists that i dont need it and that my current prescription ( 2020 with prism) is 3x stronger than needed in my left eye and 2x stronger than needed in my right eye and i actually have astigamtism in my right eye. I'm confused but i dont really argue because i was never even told that i needed the prism to begin with and didn't even know it was in my lenses until i got the new ones without it in 2020.

he tells me that theres going to be a adjustment period as i have been apparently wearing the complete incorrect prescription for 6 years ( i still dont know how thats even possible ) and he doesnt want me to come back until 3 weeks after i get my new glasses which is understanable.

However, i picked up my new glasses on Monday Oct 12th, and while it has only been two days, and im fully aware theres an adjustment period, i still get double vision with my new pair and i cannot drive with them or see far away clearly as everything becomes two again. keep in mind that even without my glasses i still see the double vision but harder to make out since i am near sighted. It also feels like i am walking around in a fish bowl and my depth perception is off ( which those last two are normal side effects so those dont worry me as much ).

i am trying to be patient but i cannot understand why i would be seeing double with and without my glasses if i never needed the prism? and im trying to not get frustrated because i cannot see or go about my daily life normally with my new glasses.

I guess what im trying to ask is if i HAVE been wearing the complete incorrect lenses (with prism 2020) for so long is it normal to expirence double vision still while my eyes adjust? Im going to get a second opinion on friday but i dont want to be looked at like im crazy again so im just wondering if that is a normal side effect and the new glasses will eventually start to work?

I know this is annoying but im very confused as i have been told completly different things from different eye doctors.

Thanks for any help i greatly appericate it!! Also sorry for any spelling errors

***UPDATE

i got that second opinion!!

the new doctor explained to me that i was correct, and actually needed the prism!! she couldnt understand why the other doctor took them out but did explain that sometimes testing for double vision can be hard as sometimes it shows up only when tired. Either way he still shouldnt have taken it out of my lenses as once you get a prism in the ur glasses it can never be removed as your brain can't revert back and thats why its use it as a last restort.

but i got the correct prescription now and she tripled checked the tests to confirm!! i'll be able to pick up the new glasses in 2-3 weeks!!

Thank you all so much!!!

Symptoms Five year old- OMD

My son has been diagnosed with BVD by a neuro optometrist. He is five years old and his main dysfunction is ocular motor. He will be getting vision therapy and occupational therapy

I’m hopeful to hear success stories in children. His optometrist sort of acts like he’s going to be fixed right up with ot and vision therapy. Insurance will be covering both so we are very grateful for that.

  1. He has some symptoms that are interesting and I’m unsure if they are related or not.
He goes the typical catching a call with his face and struggling with eye contact but these are a bit more unique

- he holds the hands of the person he is talking to. Almost to hold them still while he speaks to them.
-he looks at children with his head tilted when he approaches them.
- he cups hand binoculars around his eyes occasionally at soccer practice
- he gets close to kids faces when he talks to them and almost looks like he is mimicking their faces- the mimicking isn’t all the time but if he’s overstimulated
- he becomes very interested in younger kids movement. If a kid has big gross motor movement or is running around he watches and giggles- of course because he’s an impulsive five year old he occasionally joins in.
- he jumps off high heights or asks me “is this too high”
- he bumps into people and falls a lot
- he stares at the sky occasionally when there is a lot of movement
- he has strong focus with auditory tasks and he is really good at art and can do it for longer periods. He struggles with ball sports and if large movements are happening while he is supposed to be focused it pulls his attention.
- he can tell me the spelling of words. Knows all his letter sounds. Asks me what certain combinations of letters spell from his head but hates reading a book himself. He absolutely loves being read to and can sit for hours.
- he almost seems adhd when around large groups. One on one and in small group settings he is calm. The more movement the more impulsive and more irritable he becomes. An example of this is at our local park if 2-3 kids are there he plays beautifully. If the homeschool group is there and there’s like 30+ kids he struggles major.
He will avoid, laugh in away that makes it impossible for him to interact (overstimulated)
-when he was three at his half day preschool he would run around the room during the dance party on fridays. The teacher would get so confused and upset because he loves to dance and move.. watching other kids causes overstimulation.

He is not easily overstimulated by loud noises. Has zero other sensory behaviors.

Everyone who knows him says he doesn’t act like he’s on the spectrum but I will say some of his vision issues seem to mimicking adhd or autism type behaviors.

Struggling Hi! This is my first Reddit post and I’m making it because I need help/advice/people to relate to. Here is my story:

In 2024/2025, I developed dizziness that always felt like I was unsteady. It never felt like true vertigo. Doctors thought it was POTS, but I tested negative for the tilt table test. Fast forward, my doctor thought it was a vestibular migraine and recommended i try going off my birth control. I tried it and i felt like I was cured. Idk if it was a placebo effect or what, but I was dizzy and anxiety free for 9 months.

In April 2026, it came back with vengeance. It feels like I have been drugged/am constantly mildly intoxicated. I explored every possibility it feels like. I wore a heart monitor, got multiple blood labs done, got an iron infusion, and more. Vestibular migraines never felt like it fully fit my description of symptoms because my problems are constant, not just in flares. I have been telling doctors that it feels like my eyes aren’t working. It feels like I can’t track my eyes on things moving around me and like I can’t get them to focus on things sometimes. I get blurry vision when I am on my phone for too long. The worst thing to come out of this is my severe anxiety, panic disorder, and agoraphobia. It’s been so hard to leave my house because every time I do, I’m dizzy and I am reminded that I am “broken”.

I recently saw an eye doctor that specializes in BVD. He said he saw a slight vertical misalignment in my left eye. He thinks it could have been caused by the fact that my left eye needed a small prescription and had a slight astigmatism. My right eye is fine. I started wearing glasses and have been wearing them for 2 weeks, but they don’t make me feel any better. I honestly think they make me feel worse. The glasses make me feel like I have zero depth perception and spatial awareness. I already had struggled with Alice in wonderland syndrome previously, but the glasses seem to make it worse. I went to TJ Maxx wearing them and kept running into things and people! The glasses currently do not have prism in them. He wanted me to start off with just a prescription adjustment.

I also started vestibular physical therapy. I had 2 ENT doctors tell me I didn’t have ear crystal problems, but I apparently tested positive for misaligned crystals on my right side at physical therapy. My eyes had nystagmus during that test too. She gave me homework to do the ply maneuver for the right side daily, but I swear that makes me feel even worse!!

Can someone please tell me whether there’s hope to come out of this and feel like my normal self again? I miss feeling like me. It’s been 7 months of this and it’s terrible.

Any input, feedback, advice, etc. is very welcomed! Thank you in advance!

Prism Lenses Confused about prisms - still seeing double

When I relax my eyes I see double, so I've always been having my eyes tensed/focused in order to see clear.

I just got prisms and have been wearing them for about a week.

The images are closer, but everything is still double when I relax my eyes. I've been keeping a notebook to see if it improves daily, but it's been the same so far.

Is this normal? Will my eyes ever see one image when I relax my eyes? The optometrist said to give it time, but from reading this sub it looks like most people have immediate single vision when they try prisms.

Prism Lenses Struggling with the cost of frames plus prism lenses. Could use some advice.

I have binocular vision after concussions about two years ago. I had prism added to my prescription, but on return to the Dr in learning that I should have relied on a professional optometrist to handle my lenses. The vertical pupil distance was way off for one.

The lenses themselves are $395. The cheapest frames they have are $300. To get sunglasses clip one is another $150.

They said they want me to get a pair with adjustable nose pads. Makes sense, my current Warby Parker pair sits too low.

After my wife and I struggled with frame styles and costs, one lady finally admitted that we could bring in a frame if it was structurely good.

Apparently my current Warby Parker frames where slightly bent in the middle. Also no nose pads. I spent like $70 for sunglasses clip ons last year though. They only fit that pair though.

I did some deep searching for nose pads glasses with clip ons and felt discouraged. Warby Parker lacks pairs with nose pads and clip ons. A lot of places are more expensive. I have a pair of Warby Parkers that I didn't where much and it might have the same light bend to it.

The issue is that they want precision. Which I respect, but the cost it insane for us.

I almost gave up on the idea of clip on sunglasses, but what would I do? I can't afford prescription sunglasses? That would be a lot more. I'm sensitive to the light and get symptomatic after exposure for to long. Over stimulated, exhausted, dizzy, etc...

I also like to photo edit so we ruled out blue light and I was hoping to not have transitions this time and instead just use clip ons.

Does anyone have any advice?

Prism Lenses Ideal Prism Frames / Adjustment Period Help!

Hi there!

Short story is I am not sure what kind of frames i need for prism glasses with an out prescription or if it matter at all to the way it will work/ impact my vission. I usually wear large round or oval glasses but have heard oval glasses may be bad for this prescription and have noticed bad headaches.

Long story: I have recently gotten my eyes tested and brought up my concerns of BVD which were confirmed by my optometrist. He prescribed me prism glasses (right eye 0.75 out and left eye 0.5 out) and while i can read sooooo much better i also am dealing with awful headaches and nausea. He mentioned I should get different frames but didnt give me much info as to what and i had gotten a pair of wide oval glasses not being able to find much info. I guess i would love some info from people who may know whether or not i should stick with my wide glasses and this headache/anxiety is normal

Prism Lenses How do I find a reliable optician for custom prism glasses?

I recently had a binocular vision assessment,

and prescription includes horizontal and vertical prism correction, and I need separate glasses for distance and near vision.

I'm struggling to find an optician who has experience making these types of glasses and can ensure they fit correctly.

I'm concerned that even a small error in the prism power, direction, lens positioning, or fitting could make the glasses ineffective.

Distance glasses:

Eye Sphere Prism

Right (OD) −2.50 DS 4Δ base-in

Left (OS) −2.00 DS 2Δ base-in + 1Δ base-up

Near glasses:

Right (OD) −0.50 DS 1Δ base-down

Left (OS) Plano (0.00) 1Δ base-up

For those who wear prism glasses:

  • How did you find a reliable optician or clinic?

  • Did you have your glasses made locally or by a specialist?

  • Could you test the prescription before the lenses were manufactured?

  • How important was the fitting, and did you need adjustments or remakes?

TL;DR: Does anybody know a reliable optician ideally in Eastern Europe who can make glasses with prism?

Struggling What to do when my eyes give up?

I've been diagnosed convergence insufficiency for years, but I currently am between prism glasses and haven't done vision therapy. Some days I wake up and my eyes just hurt. What can I do as a short term fix? Today I don't have anything I need to do, but I can't just have my eyes closed all day?

Thera Specs- They are worth the money!!!

Hi fellow BVD friends!!

I’m right in the middle of my vision therapy diagnosed 4 months ago.

I have extreme light sensitivity, sometimes debilitating I find myself needing to lay down a lot in a dark room. My work from home computer work is very hard to complete without many breaks.

I had been telling my therapist this and the recommended FL-41 tinted glasses. 👓 I decided on Thera Specs brand and received them yesterday.

Typically when I’m in the kitchen all of the lights are off but yesterday, when I put them on, within 3 mins all light sensitivity was almost diminished. I sat down and cried!!!

It was like my eyes just took a deep breath and said “Thank you”!!!

I’m sure I over did it though because I ended up turning on all my lights, cooking and then watched a movie!!! I watched a full movie with my glasses on!!!!

Anyways, I’ll take it slower today. I also ordered the sunglasses and am very excited to try them.

Now, they reduce some of my symptoms like eye pain and the strain you get between your eyes. They don’t make the actual BVD go away, I can just better manage these light sensitivity symptoms.

Prism Lenses How long does it take to get used to prisms?

Just got my first pair of prism glasses and it just feels blurrier than before and my symptoms are a lot worse but will it improve over time? How long does it usually take? I saw some people say several weeks but do you notice a slow improvement throughout the weeks? I just don’t wanna go through unnecessary suffering for a month if my prisms just aren’t right for me. Also my prisms aren’t that strong

Suche Menschen mit ähnlichen Augenproblemen und Erschöpfungszuständen ❤️
Hallo zusammen
