They also seem to have removed that interaction between Drifter and Ivy where he says "look at us, the reaper and the sower" and she doesn't understand him at all

Tbf that one always rubbed me the wrong way just because shes super casual about Drifter admitting hes a serial killer to her face, while her new dialogue is full of shit like "Yeah I can't keep a job because I german suplexed a customer once for harassing my coworkers". I don't think she'd just go "yeah your analogies need some work"

Plus, "I've never been to a farm" feels silly to say when 2 of her abilities involve creating plants. You literally sow all the time it's called pressing 1.

I mean, she’s never been to a farm, qudzu grows literally anywhere, it’s an invasive species that can destroy stone structures, shes a city girl

I still think it’s so crazy that Ivy just goes around throwing invasive Japanese plants everywhere

The thing is, when it was first introduced, it was actually considered beneficial for how fast it grew. There were monetary incentives for farmers to grow it to help with erosion control. It took decades for people to realize how damaging and out-of-control it could be.

So it’s not active malice as much as using something “useful” whose actual downsides took ages to reach public awareness. In that sense, Ivy essentially has the 1920s equivalent of asbestos-themed abilities. In this essay I will

The Dynamo flair really adds to your comment. Let me know if you need a co-author on your paper!

Kudzu also dies under its own shadows extremely quickly and really only grows Like That at the edge of woodland, it just looks monstrous along highways where there's nothing to eat it and none of the more hardy native & invasive species around to outcompete it so it engulfs trees. If you go like 20 feet further into the woods it's all gone because it can't tolerate any shade.

Goats and other ungulates love it too and will just eat it all up

Kudzu has been in America since the late 19th century

You’re getting downvoted but that was lowkey a bar.

Big fat ass facts

Actually, funnily enough a huge amount of invasive species in America got their start from one dude introducing "all the animals in Shakespeare" into Central Park NYC.

ETA: just learned that this is an urban legend, the only actual invasive species that might have originated this way is Starlings. (though they are a pretty massively invasive species)

Idk I wouldn’t call immigrants invasive personally.

Edit: also a little weird to suggest New Yorkers are a different species than native Americans. Personally I don’t believe I that kinda thing I think we’re all one species.

Before what we might consider immigration. I'm speaking more about the colonial empire side of things. But nice try.

u/Box_v2 3d ago

Most New Yorkers are not children of colonizers. Their ancestors came during the big immigrations waves so if your point was about colonization you’re just factually wrong.

u/yinyang107 McGinnis 3d ago

What do you think those earlier immigration waves were, dude?

u/Regular-Bid6812 Calico 2d ago

yeah the legacy of colonialism is complex sure - where do you draw the line ect. Honestly I wasn't trying to write a dissertation - I was being pithy. America was founded by invaders and colonizers and the empire that stands there now is the legacy of that endeavor. Why quibble?

Humans are kind of an invasive species by our own definition, we just invaded a long time ago, except for pure-blooded sub-saharan africans I guess, they're actually native everyone else is invasive.

3

u/Box_v2 3d ago

I don’t think animals moving to a new locations makes them invasive. It’s the unnatural transportation and spreading of those animals that makes them invasive.

3

u/ohheythereguys 3d ago

humans are not an invasive species lmao; that's just ecofascist rhetoric

we do have a tendency toward colonisation, though

Thanks for being the most annoying post of the day

Well I’m glad you know when it was brought over here, doesn’t make it not invasive!
