Failed Expectation GV Roasted Poblano strips

Roasted under a heat lamp.

*edited They roasted up pretty well, some got a little over done in the back, but I can say they are a solid poblano for flash frozen, kitchen basic brand!

The roasting part is definitely under done or non-existent but at least the veggie pieces look good.

They really do! I’m really glad they had them, they are going to make excellent chili

Mmmm.... Can I come over? Chili sounds so yummy

ETA: Just saw your garden roasted jalapeno comment, and now I really want some. Last few chilis I've had, had no spice at all

Hello, fellow cheese fiend!

I’m clearing out the rest of my garden today, tomatoes, so I think I’ll join the chili bandwagon

I made one of the best batches of chili in my life about 3-4 weeks ago… got to throw in a few different kinds of peppers from my next door neighbor’s garden. There were jalapeños, Serrano, and some kind of Chinese chili peppers with a long name that I can’t remember. I used a bunch of different colored sweet peppers from the store, and an Anaheim and a poblano to round it all out. The spice level was perfect… enough to make me sweat and make my nose run a bit, but not so much to make it not enjoyable. Happy chili season everyone! (Everyone in the northern hemisphere at least)

We all love and good DIY project, no?

Honestly though? I would absolutely supplement a bag of the fajita mix with these so there would be a reasonable amount of onions. I can roast them myself.

It is a pretty good deal, especially for small-ish town Wisconsin. We are making chili, and I am roasting some jalapeños from my garden anyway 😋

I'm sad because this post made me check my Walmart app and they aren't available at mine yet! Jealous! I was already planning a sweet potato chorizo black bean poblano strip monstrosity for dinner Tuesday night!

6

u/Massive_Cut4276 3h ago

Oh, I hope yours gets one too! Those would be such a great addition!!

3

u/fourdoglegs 2h ago

Oh that sounds yummy…..

You have the power to make your dreams come true! You can absolutely just roast the frozen pepper and onions with some frozen diced sweet potatoes, just start the potatoes first. Brown up some chorizo (or ground pork/turkey and add seasoning like i do), toss in a can of drained black beans, and serve it all with some guac and sour cream, add a fried egg if you like, cheese if you want (I find that the sour cream pulls its weight though). If you want it even easier, air fry some sweet potato tots and throw the peppers in with the chorizo, I've done that before

Well I know what’s for lunch tomorrow!!!

Could be worse, could have been the fire roasted veggies that looked all black and disgusting

4

u/Massive_Cut4276 3h ago

I am a big fan of fire roasted corn on the cob, with some Tajín, but I have seen some veg that have been straight up incinerated, lol

Sounds more like instructions than product description

2

u/Massive_Cut4276 3h ago

Lmao, right?

11

u/Individual_Slice_234 2h ago

Those look like green bell peppers.

3

u/Massive_Cut4276 2h ago

…. They might be, lol

4

u/indieplants 3h ago

lmfaoooo roast at home

9

u/Massive_Cut4276 3h ago

*some assembly required

4

u/The_Migrant_Twerker 2h ago

Lolol I’ll still eat them but not roasted nor poblano

1

u/Massive_Cut4276 2h ago

Oh no, what are they really?

0

u/RecklessCreature 2h ago edited 13m ago

The look like bell peppers. Poblanos are dark green all around… Not dark green outside and then light green inside. Could just be the picture

1

u/Massive_Cut4276 2h ago

Hmmm, maybe. They are spicier and more acidic than a bell pepper. And have a more complex flavor. It very well could be the picture.

6

u/Responsible_Mess_754 3h ago

But how do they taste? You can always roast them a little more.

3

u/Massive_Cut4276 3h ago

I am roasting them more, haven’t tasted one yet but they smell good in my oven!

2

u/Responsible_Mess_754 53m ago

I have never seen them in my local Wally World, but then again I have never looked for them. I am blessed to live in an area where I can get Hatch green chili.

Of course not, it's Great

3

I was expecting wayy worse

3

u/Particular_Cabinet92 2h ago

I roast mine and then freeze them. They look nothing like that. Those look raw.

2

u/Massive_Cut4276 2h ago

They were rather crispy, haha

3

u/Beneficial_Bat1173 2h ago

Is this… the one time reality is actually the better version?

3

u/Inside_Force3214 2h ago

I buy tricolor roasted peppers. If they don't look like they fell into a campfire, I'm bummed.

3

u/WatermelonMachete43 1h ago

I have white chili on the menu this week. These would be perfect, thanks!

2

u/Massive_Cut4276 47m ago

Yum!! I love white chicken chili. I know one of my coworkers is planning to make some for our annual chili lunch at the office in a few weeks.

Don't sleep on great value. Those blind chef taste tests revealed GV can hold its own against Trader Joe's and Whole Foods labels.

1

u/montani 3m ago

Yeah frozen veg all comes from the same places too. There isn't a secret trader joes poblano farm

2

u/SoFloDan 2h ago

They misspelled “You Roast It”

2

u/BorderTrike 2h ago

My experience with such veggie bags is there’s often a few rotten bits. I’m surprised they wouldn’t roast em more to try and hide any

1

u/Massive_Cut4276 2h ago

Oh man, that sucks. I’ve never had that happen.

2

u/WestBrink 1h ago

You misunderstood, these poblanos have been subjected to a variety of comedy insults by Shane Gillis...

2

u/Mchaitea 1h ago

Man this is gonna make tomatillo sauce so much easier.

1

u/Massive_Cut4276 48m ago

That sounds so good, tomatillos are so underrated

2

u/Massive_Cut4276 49m ago

a thing of beauty 😋

2

u/Disastrous-You9086 3h ago

Wow dear they rip you off... Not roasted

1

u/SierraStar7 2h ago edited 1h ago

Are these new? I haven’t seen them in any WMs near me. I’d definitely buy them too, would be great with some carnitas.

3

u/Fine_Statistician704 1h ago

Same. Sometimes my store is out of fresh poblanos. This is good to know.

2

u/Massive_Cut4276 2h ago

They might be? It was the first time we have seen them.

2

u/throwaway12three4 42m ago

Just checked the app. They have them near me. Only a single review. So seems new. Might pick some up.

1

u/Massive_Cut4276 2h ago

Honestly my expectations for budget frozen vegetables would me be on the floor. These at least seem to be hovering around decent

3

u/ButtsFartsoPhD 2h ago

Why? Frozen vegetables are actually more nutritious as they are flash frozen shortly after harvest as opposed to sitting around after picking them transport etc.

1

u/Massive_Cut4276 2h ago

They have a good smell and they were crispy lol
