When nature conservation becomes a colonial crime: how Israel-hate hijacked environmntal sciences,
by Zsuzsanna Ujj, fathom, 2026-10.
Zsuzsanna Ujj maps how in certain segments of academia, Israelโs nature conservation efforts and measures to comply international environmental law are presented as green dispossession. The reintroduction of locally extinct native species is reframed as a hostile act, in which the Persian fallow deer is deployed as an โagent of normalization,โ used by the state to advance a โcolonial conservation project.โ
Environmental protection has long operated on a shared, global consensus: that safeguarding endangered habitats and species is an objective scientific good. Yet a quiet shift within Western academic literature is subverting this empirical foundation, turning the hard sciences of ecology, biodiversity conservation, as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation into an ideological weapon.
Academic antizionism has built three pillars that sustain its ideology: settler-colonialism as the main framework to understand environmental problems, denying the indigeneity of Jews in Palestine, and a romanticised picture of Indigenous Peoples.
Reputable scientific journals publish academic articles, where routine ecological management is no longer evaluated through biodiversity metrics, compliance with legal obligations, or resource sustainability; instead, it is systematically recast as an instrument of โgreen dispossession,โ โecocide,โ and โcolonial violence,โ particularly when taking place in Israel.

History๐ Free Zoom Event about early 20th century Israeli History on October 22nd, 7:00-9:00PM EDT
Hello everyone,
I would like to share an interesting free event taking place on Thursday, October 22nd, from 7:00-9:00PM EDT at the Gelber Centre in Montreal and live on Zoom with 2026 Canadian Jewish Literary Award Winner, translator, and Harvard professor Adi Mahalel.
This event will discuss Mahalel's scholarship and his publication of the first ever English translation from Yiddish of the controversial novel Boom & Chains by Hanan Ayalti.
Through the story of pioneers arriving in Jaffa and attempting to build a new society based on ideals of community, labor, and collective purpose, Ayalti examines the dreams of a generation while confronting the complex realities of settlement, identity, politics, and coexistence. Boom & Chains offers a deeply nuanced, rarely seen perspective on early 20th-century kibbutz life that challenges the utopian ideals of the Labour Zionist Movement.
Here is the registration link for anyone interestec:

General News Benjamin Netanyahu reveals direct call with Syria's President Ahmed al-Sharaa over Druze
Netanyahu also emphasized his commitment to protecting the Druze community. "We took down the Defense Ministry in Damascus - just like that, gone - we took down a target inside the Palace compound, and I called Sharaa. It was a very short and sharp conversation, and the massacre stopped. I will do whatever it takes to protect our brothers, your brothers, and our brothers; we will not allow a massacre to be committed, and they must also be returned to their homes. This commitment comes from the depths of my soul," he said.

Ask The Sub Patrilineal Judaism, Citizenship, Adoption
My spouse is an Israeli Jew. We've had kinship care of my nephew since he was born. He was raised with our kids as a patrilineal Jew in a Reform Synagogue. He had a bar mitzvah. He formally converted. He loves it all. We're considering adopting him as we have not heard from my sister in almost ten years. Our lawyer asked if there's any benefit in regard to Judaism. It's our understanding that it would have no impact, other than potentially conferring citizenship, which he doesn't need unless he chooses to move there, which he already can as a Jew. Thoughts?
