I personally think we need more investments for other faculties that have less financial support, but any donation is important of course, and frees up resources ๐Ÿพ

Ask The Sub What Is the Most Accurate Definition of Zionism?

Post image
42 Upvotes

This is the definition of Zionism I have always understood and used:

Zionism is simply the idea that Jews have the right to self-determination, or the idea that Israel should (continue to) exist.

I recognize that Zionism is a remarkably broad political ideology encompassing a wide range of political perspectives and beliefs. However, critics of Zionism often narrow its definition to a hyper-specific, and inaccurate or unrecognizable, set of political positions.

I want to refute these mischaracterizations with the most accurate definition of Zionism, supported by reputable historical and academic sources. What do you consider the most accurate definition of Zionism, and what reputable sources would you recommend to support it?

Politics Can Israel's Instagram account stop with the rampant AI use?

The official Instagram account for Israel just featured a showcase of Israeli food where every single image was AI-generated. Now, I've been to Israel, and know from experience that you guys make great food. But everyone else on Instagram will now assume that the food in Israel is terrible, because they didn't have any actual pictures to show, and generative AI is synonymous with lying. Israel's social media team took what should have been a celebration of their culture and humiliated themselves with it.

I don't know if any of you have connections with the Israeli government's social media team, but could you please tell them to knock it the fuck off? As a diaspora Jew, this is getting embarrassing.

Ask The Sub Do people genuinely believe all the shit they spew about Israel/Israel's involvement in everything?

Lately, in an effort to improve my understanding of US politics, as well as my awful spoken English, I've been watching a lot of American political commentators. I picked out a bunch of random ones from all different perspectives, Sean Hannity, Bill Maher, Tucker Carlson, TYT, Megyn Kelly, even Candace Owens for a bit. Big mistake.

While some of them were very levelheaded on Israel-Palestine, (Bill Maher for instance), most of the rest are convinced that Israel is the antichrist or something. Just a few things I heard commentators accuse Israel of include:

9/11.

Killing Charlie Kirk.

Baltimore Bridge Collapse.

Rewriting the New Testament.

Claiming Israeli Jews are part of a blood cult.

Having actually killed hundreds of thousands in Gaza.

Controlling the US government and making them an Israeli satellite.

Blackmailing the US into going to war with Iran for Israel.

And of course, who can forget the timeless classic, accusing Israel of committing 'genocide' in Gaza.

My question is do they actually believe this garbage? do the people that follow them believe it? or are they literally just doing this for clicks? it just seems so bizarre to me to believe that Israel is behind these things. 9/11? really? they are the only other country in the world to have a shrine with all the names of the victims on it. Sorry about the rant, but I really am asking.

Ask The Sub Was the 2005 withdrawal from Gaza intended as the first step towards a 2SS?

It would seem Israelโ€™s withdrawal from Gaza could have been the road towards a better path forward for the country and the Palestinians. If Hamas hadnโ€™t been elected as their government and a more cooperative entity had instead, a spirit of partnership snd trust might have been created and a road towards resolving the conflict might have occurred.

Why else would the withdrawal have taken place?

Some 80 settlers, many of them masked and some of them carrying gas canisters, descended from a hill to the terraced olive grove where villagers from Abu Falah had gathered to pick ripe fruit, witnesses said.

Some of them used slings to launch rocks toward Palestinian villagers, who descended toward the bottom of the hill before they began to throw rocks back at the settlers, witnesses said.

Palestinian media outlets reported that the Palestinian Red Crescent treated a 63-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man who sustained injuries from beatings by settlers.

The injured woman was Heidi Levine, a photojournalist who works for The Washington Post and has reported on conflicts around the world.

The strongest friendships between nations are measured by how much each country contributes to the otherโ€™s growth and prosperity โ€” not just by diplomatic agreements or military alliances.

When it comes to India and Israel, India provides Israel with investment, manufacturing capacity, a vast market, and a growing workforce. Israel, in turn, offers India technological innovation and expertise in water management, agriculture, energy, and defense...

Four observations about Israelis

I am an Israeli who spent a large amount of my life in America, some time in Europe, and presently living back in Israel, I've noticed a few things about Israelis that really stand out to me.

1. Israelis are unusually attractive.

Both men and women. I don't know exactly how to explain it, but Israelis are a remarkably good-looking people. Whatever causes is, it's very noticeable. This is something that significantly sticks out of me about this country. Tel Aviv is like a city of supermodels, but this unusual beauty can be found everywhere.

2. Israelis have an extraordinary number of children.

Coming from America and Europe, one of the most striking things about Israel is just how many children there are. They're everywhere. One parent being followed down the street with four or five children doesn't seem particularly unusual here.

In much of the developed world, children are increasingly treated as an economic burden or a lifestyle sacrifice. In Israel, having children still feels like a fundamental part of what life is about.

There's something optimistic about a society that keeps bringing new life into the world, particularly one that has experienced so much adversity.

3. Israelis are deeply spiritual.

Even secular Israelis often have a spiritual dimension that I rarely encountered in America or Europe.

Religion, tradition, identity, and questions of collective destiny are woven into everyday life. People might reject organized religion while still feeling an intense connection to Jewish history, the Land of Israel, and ultimately to something greater than themselves.

Israel is a country where even atheists can feel remarkably religious.

4. Israelis fundamentally misunderstand Diaspora Jews.

I think many Israelis don't appreciate just how much Diaspora Jews look up to them.

I have oftentimes encounter an Israeli perception that Diaspora Jews are disconnected, comfortable, or simply don't understand what it means to live here. There is a wide belief that the Diaspora is even adversarial and totally abandoned the Jewish state.

But having grown up in the Diaspora, I can tell you that many Jews abroad look at Israelis with genuine admiration. They admire their courage and willingness to defend our collective future.

Many Diaspora Jews grow up seeing Israel as the center of the Jewish world and Israelis as the people actually living Jewish history.

Of course, Diaspora Jews don't always understand Israelis either. And admiration doesn't mean agreement with everything Israel does.

But I think Israelis would be surprised by just how many Jews around the world see them as an example to aspire to and support them.

My general thought is the things Israelis take for granted are frequently the very things that make Israel so remarkable to those of us who know the world outside of this country.

The War - Discussion Deceleration/Anti-AI Propaganda is an Existential Threat to Israel

We are in a race for the future of humanity and the only way to win a race is to push your foot on the accelerator.

I don't think Israelis fully appreciate the national security implications of losing the race in artificial intelligence.

And I don't think most people understand just how astonishing AI's capabilities have already become.

We are talking about machines beginning to make original discoveries at the frontiers of mathematics, physics, biology, and computer science.

Consider what has happened in just the past year:

  • Mathematics: In October 2026, OpenAI released an extraordinary collection of AI-generated mathematical research: currently 719 manuscripts organized into 372 families of results that would have taken 100 years of human effort to replicate. Source: OpenAI's mathematics repository

  • Research-level mathematical reasoning: Google's Gemini Deep Think reached gold-medal performance at the International Mathematical Olympiad and subsequently contributed to original mathematical research, including autonomous solutions to previously open Erdล‘s problems and advances in theoretical computer science and physics. Source: Google DeepMind, February 2026

  • Scientific reasoning: Research led by MIT's Neil Thompson found that frontier AI models improved from solving approximately 2% of a selected set of theoretical science problems in 2024 to approximately 35% in 2026. These included problems in quantum physics, cosmology, statistics, and economic theory. Source: WIRED, October 14, 2026

  • Biological discovery: Anthropic reported that Claude autonomously identified a previously uncharacterized enzyme system with CRISPR-like features after analyzing massive genomic datasets. Researchers have begun experimentally investigating the system, although its function remains unknown. Source: Anthropic, September 23, 2026

Now think about the implications for military technology.

Mathematics underpins physics. Physics underpins engineering. Engineering underpins virtually every sophisticated weapons system on the planet.

Now consider Iran.

Imagine what happens when AI capabilities become orders of magnitude more powerful.

What happens to Iran's ballistic missile programs when advanced AI can accelerate their research in materials science, propulsion, and complex physical modeling?

What happens to its Shahed drones when increasingly capable AI can improve autonomous navigation and coordination across large numbers of drones?

And what happens when frontier AI dramatically increases the sophistication of offensive cyber operations?

CSIS has documented how Russia took Iran's original Shahed designs and developed increasingly sophisticated Geran drones, including variants with AI-enabled computer vision and autonomous navigation. Technology and operational knowledge have also begun flowing back toward Iran Source: CSIS โ€” AI-driven drone autonomy

Anti-AI propaganda is a foreign influence operation.

In June 2026, OpenAI exposed influence operations originating in China that used AI-generated content and fake online personas to amplify criticism of American AI infrastructure and technology policies. Source: OpenAI โ€” PRC-linked influence operations

Imagine a future where Western countries and Israel, having a population influenced by this Chinese propaganda, significantly decelerate AI development while China continues advancing.

Imagine China surpassing the United States in frontier AI and then transferring some of those capabilities to Iran.

Israel's security has always depended heavily on maintaining a technological advantage over adversaries that vastly outnumber us.

What happens if that advantage disappears?

What happens if Iran gains access to scientific and engineering capabilities that dramatically accelerate the development of the very weapons Israel must defend against?

While Israelis, who were smoking the anti-AI propaganda, have no ability to defend against AI-driven weapons?

In an extreme scenario, this could become a question of Israel's survival as a state.

I have spent years concerned about AI alignment and safety. Those risks are genuine, and I am not arguing that we should ignore them.

But there is another risk that deserves much more attention. The risk of AI deceleration due to anti-AI propaganda.

This is the risk that Israel and its allies restrain their own technological development due to its "unpopularity" while authoritarian adversaries like China and Iran continue advancing.

We must recognize that the consequences of falling behind could be existential for the future existence of our state.
