mod post Israel/Palestine discussion

After some mod discussion…

Posts about IWI guns, or accessories from Israeli manufacturers (or sometimes even posts about completely-unrelated topics!) quickly become a discussion of Israel/Palestine politics. There are plenty of more appropriate places to have those discussions on Al Gore's internet. Comments stronger than "I'll never buy IWI" will be removed, and users will potentially be banned after repeated offenses. Stick to talking about the guns.

This will be folded into the "topicality" rule in the near future, but this sticky post serves in the stead of that change.

Firearms are either stowed away in a locked compartment, or on you legally. Get it together. Invest in a lockbox of some kind.

discussion Seriously, take classes

Even if you cant find a place that has folks that you agree with 100% or even if you dont care and/or can just deal with it. Take classes if you are new or even intermediate level. Totally worth it to shake down kit, setup, technique, and short comings

gear Gunbroker M9 score

Was obsessing over 2011 builds recently, which got me thinking about my other favorite all metal hammer struck 9mm double stack pistols.

Have wanted to own a M9 variant for years and started scoping auctions on gunbroker last week. Came across this listing for a 2006 M9A0 and noticed it had a brigadier slide and what I thought might be some Wilson Combat parts from the pics on the listing. It had about 8 hours left and was sitting at $340 put in a bid limit of $577 and let it ride.

Auction ended at $504 (all in for $633 after taxes shipping and credit card fees)

Picked it up yesterday and realized someone had put some serious cash into it to make it a competition shooter, but apparently never ran it. All told it has about $1000 worth of upgraded parts including WC short break trigger and trigger conversion, recoil spring, buffer and metal guide rod, extended mag release and mag guide. It also has a BAR STO Match Barrel and a Kensight adjustable sight. Plus the beefier Brigadier slide. And the barrel looks like it hasn’t had a round through it yet and the frame and slide are pristine it also has a nice set of unbranded micarta grips.

It’s no $5k 2K11, but I’m pretty happy to have a gun I’ve wanted since I was in the Navy and it has almost all the upgrades I had on my list.

guns Time for a 22LR - decision to make.

I know this debate has been done to death and I’ve researched to death. But maybe a little nudge from the collective will settle my mind.

Browning Buckmark Medallion 22LR 5.5
Ruger Mark IV 22/45 22LR 5.5

I love the aesthetics of the Buckmark - it is $30 more and only comes with 1 magazine. The Mark IV is ubiquitous but a little boring. I don’t compete but maybe someday. I also have never upgraded my guns (except for optics on a rifle and a trigger spring for my SP101.)

My goal is putting holes in paper at 15-25 yards with the best accuracy.

question Need advice around risk

Sorry for the weird title I could not figure out a good title name. I’m trying to be very sensitive with what I post. I have a cousin who is kind of a “loser “he has access to guns in his house that I think are open and free for the most part. I think there is a gun safe though, and he goes to the shooting range and has been trained on how to use guns. They are very gun, friendly family.

He has been having problems at school. Like he spent 10 days skipping school just sitting in his car in the parking lot. He doesn’t have a lot of friends and he’s not the brightest and so he really struggles at school generally. I am just worried about him and I don’t think his parents are really paying attention or doing anything to help. What is some advice that I can give to his parents to try to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself or others in the future?

I am just really worried because of his demeanor and he’s very quiet and I don’t think he really has a lot of emotional support or emotional intelligence or skills to deal with his issues.

I just will really feel bad if something does happen and I never tried you know? But also, I don’t want to overstep because maybe it’s just my mind being overly sensitive. But I did actually talk with another cousin and they actually agree with me.

But anyway, what are some steps that I can take to confront the parents in a disarming way. Maybe it’s just asking if they can have their gun safe completely locked up? But he is nearly 18 so he can probably own his own gun soon anyway, and probably already does.

guns Gun lock ridiculousness

Post image
23 Upvotes

I know I'm buying a cheap 22LR range POS fun gun, but really? I can't decide if it's following the law and mocking the spirit, or just the end result of cheap. The lock, all of it, keys and mechanism, is made from the same polymer as the frame, so I suppose any child beating the crap out of it to get the lock off will likely break the trigger and/or guard as well.

I picked up the Pearce AR 1911 style grip module for the PCC. I went with my spare wood grips and Wilson Combat drop in front checkering.

Since I’m a 1911 whore, and appreciate the angle of the grip dangle, it’s a natural fit for me. It’s very comfortable and stylish at the same time.

Trying this new optic setup on my PSA 300blk build. Threw a Vortex 3x Prism on top with a canted Enclosed Venom dot on top. The 3x prism is a liiiiiiiiiitle low for me, so I'm debating a small riser under it, but going to run it like this for now.

PSA 8.5" 300blk upper and PSA lower. Shadow Crossover grip, AFG up front, Rave 140 trigger, Midwest Industries 12" handguard, AB Suppressors A10 can, Vortex Spitfire 3x prism, Vortex Enclosed Venom, Gas Buster charging handle, and UTG Pro stock.

hunting Benelli in its natural habitat

Post image

Went hunting last week - group of 5 friends met up in the middle of the country. Around 1800 km of driving in total for two days of hunting, but had a great time. Love the weight and length of the 828S when doing "støkkjakt" or flush hunting, where you just trot around the terrain in zig-zag patterns, stopping and waiting a few seconds, before you keep going. It's just around 2900 grams and with the 67 cm (26 inch) barrel set it's super handy for point-and-shoot hunting where reaction time is key.

question Need recommendations

• Upvotes

If you wanted to build a reliable, budget AR, what parts would you purchase for yourself?
I'm open to lots of different options -- full length, SBR, different calibers, suppressed like a pin/weld, or suppressor-capable.
I already own a .300Blk with a pinned/welded suppressor and a 5.56 NATO with a 16" barrel.
I have .300BLK, 5.56 NATO rifles and 9mm and .45ACP pistols. I would consider another caliber, but would prefer to stick to what I've already got.

The main goal here is to build a safe, useful, and legal firearm. I live in a state with no state-level restrictions.

What would you recommend for either parts or a parts list within a reasonable budget (say, $800-$1,000 not including suppressor)?

I've never built an AR before so any tool recommendations would also be appreciated. I have various punches, torque wrenches, a torque screwdriver, a couple mallets, etc. but no AR-specific tools, so recommendations on that score would also be appreciated.

Thanks!

...in Kansas. Which I did with the 4th grader on the way home from the annual shooting range picnic and swap meet and so on.

Plenty of people there, as expected, wearing MAGA hats so the voting was planned as a nice palette cleanser, but turned out we ran into some non-shooting neighborhood friends, including one of his best kid friends, supporting Grandpa's swap meet table, so that turned out nicely in several ways.

Now we have more acceptable shooting friends it seems.

Even though this is being challenged, the core principals remain. We all know this phrase, and that has power. Have the courage to be yourself and stand up for your beliefs.

“Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.”

(I make these myself. LokPins)
